 + 0 moreThe overall experience was perfect. I received a quality product, superior services from the technicians who did the work and know that I am now well-protected should Iose power. The office staff was friendly, cooperative, eager to please. The entire process went very smoothly. My only suggestion would be to locate someone to run the gas lines and pay them independently. You can have the quality you want, excellent work and not have to pay the overhead for the company to bring out the same contractor. I have already recommended this company several times and will continue to do so!
Description of Work: Prompt, courteous, made it a priority to "work" with me to insure I received what I had contracted for in a manner more than satisfactory to me. After extensive research I determined I wanted a Kohler brand generator, which narrowed the contractors. I found a comment on Angie's list suggesting an independent natural gas installer. I pursued this avenue and learned the cost would save me $400; I used the independent, who was, in fact, $400 less AND does installations for Mr. Electric frequently. I was given a senior / military discount on my overall costs when I requested it. Even with the discount, they were higher than other contractors in the area but I wanted the Kohler and paid the price for it. I can't say enough good things about the gentlemen who came out to do the work. They made the entire experience wonderful. I would highly recommend them!

Description of Work: Two men came out and replaced two bathroom fans/lights. They had to do a little retro fitting and didn't charge extra. The guys were very professional and I would highly recommend for any electrical work.

 + -1 moreChad from Mr. Electric came out to fix the problem. He immediately noted that the switch on the GFI had been tripped. He pushed the GFI switch and the lights and exhaust fan became operational again. He took the cover off the exhaust fan to check it out and said it looked good. He ran the exhaust fan for several minutes to make sure that the problem did not occur again. After contacting his boss, he told me that there would be no charge for the visit. He gave me an estimate for replacement of the GFI if it should ever trip again. All of the communications I had with the personnel for this company were extremely polite and professional. I would not hesitate to use them again.
Description of Work: Exhaust fan and lights stopped working in upstairs bathroom.

 + -1 moreThey were knowledgeable, professional, and yet personable. All questions and concerns I had, they answered to my satisfaction. They cleaned up after themselves, both inside the main house, the garage, and outside. They stayed true to their estimate. I gave them a 'wish list' of other items I wanted done, and I was able to have them done as well, as the additional costs were very reasonable. I was able to stay within my budget. I would hire them again in a heartbeat and will recommend them to family, friends, and neighbors. Kudos to the two gentleman, (especially Matt) that completed the work and the receptionist I kept calling with questions prior to the work. This is the way a business should be run.
Description of Work: Mr Electric replaced my obsolete breaker box with a new one and updated the grounding and bonded to meet current codes. They completely labeled each breaker after going through each room of the house to make sure the were labeled correctly. They installed a whole house surge arrester, checked and/or replaced several old outlets and switches and replaced the hallway switch with a motion light, moved the washer and dryer outlets from the laundry room to the garage and checked out my fluttering outdoor light. .

 + 1 moreThe two services were for my rental property out on the Clearlake Community. I was pleased with the prompt phone calls and updates from both the office and the technicians. The two technicians were professional in appearance and demeanor. They were flexible to accommodate my renter's work schedules. They even knew that the Clearlake Community has spotty cell reception and to call from the nearby "Four Corners" area. Two weeks later everything is still functioning fine and my renters and I have no further issues. I will use Mr. Electric again if I have any further electrical issues.
Description of Work: Review consists of two different services. First service was from my inquiry of blown lightbulbs. Technician checked panel and tightened breakers and removed faulty/ineffective panel-surge protector. Technician came back a couple of days later to install proper panel-surge protector with no additional travel fee. Visits successfully addressed issues of lightbulbs burning out after a couple of hours. Second visit was in response to a malfunctioning hot-water heater. The technician checked and replaced thermostat couplings and unit is functioning as normal.

 + -1 moreThe electrician, Chad, showed up on time for both the free estimate and the work. He was very courteous and helpful on both occasions. Unfortunately, one of the GFI outlets didn't work, but he came back three days later and replaced it (it sounded like he would have come same day had we needed him to). I don't know how the price stacks up to competitors, but it was worth it to us, though it didn't strike me as an excellent deal, hence the "Good" rating. That said, Chad was honest with us and talked me out of some work I had been considering that wasn't necessary. That built trust and I'll happily pay a small premium for an honest contractor.
Description of Work: Installation of three GFI outlets, one new outlet, and a surge protector on the electrical box.

 + -1 moreC I could have had the hot tub disconnected for the less than the coupon price by a local contractor. I was left with two problems. One was a new problem, with the garage door.
Description of Work: The electrician disconnected the hot tub. This took approximately 15-20 minutes. I had requested the additional 100 minutes be spent checking on the seensor system for my garage lights......1hour and 40 mintues later....after much contemplation, it was determined that would take a second visit. While working in the garage, the electrician bumped the garage door sensor. I had to have someone else re-aline the sesnor. :-(

 + -1 moreCalled for service (Tuesday) and was told they would come out the next day (Wednesday) to price it for me (wind damage & power out). I tried calling them the next day (Wednesday) after the time when I thought they would be done with the doing the estimate and no one seemed to know who I was or what job I was talking about. I did get a call on Friday (3 days later) with a message saying they had an estimate for me, but when I heard the message I tried to call back but they were closed for the weekend. Seemed unprofessional to me not to be quicker with the estimate for service with the power out and everything. I guess being new to Angie's List - I thought it would be a slam dunk if I used a vendor that had good ratings. Anyway, by Thursday I had lined someone else up and they came same day for the estimate which I had in my email that night so I could send to my homeowners insurance. Friday in my mind was just way too late to be getting back to me.
Description of Work: Asked for an estimate of what it would take to get power back on from wind damage.

 + -1 moreCalled and scheduled appt. Due to distance of job, a small fuel/bridge surcharge was agreed to. The workmen were prompt and did an excellent job. He took great care with our stucco exterior. Due to rain he could not caulk, but showed my husband how and when to do it and even offered caulk. When they left everything was clean and worked well. At billing, there was a small problem, they billed our visa for entire amount of job instead of just the fuel surcharge. I called, they were great, apologized and I immediately received a new receipt in the mail reflecting the adjustment. We would use them again in a minute.

Jim spent over an hour talking to us during the estimate about our walls and what could happen with lathe and plaster. He helped us decide where we needed circuits and the best options for our home. He took pictures and notes, and when he did the quote, he broke it down into options. His team taught us how to change out our own outlets so we could even save money. They completed the project on time and left our home clean and with fewer holes than we expected. I definitely choose Mr Electric again!
Description of Work: Remove obsolete fuse box and old meter and mast Install new 200 amp main breaker panel top quality Cutler Hammer brand Re-feed existing circuits with proper size circuit breakers for each and enclose any splices needed at old panel in a proper junction box. Install new ground rods and upgrade grounding system to meet current code. Install new 200 amp meter base mast guy line and service wire. Provide an electrical permit and coordinate the Power Company and inspection. Rewiring any circuits because of existing problems is not included in our bid. Some wall damage around the panel and in other areas may occur. Option - 1 - install a whole house surge arrester highly recommended in main panel protects electronics in the house from power surges caused by the Power Company power outages lightning strikes etc. Option - 2 - install a new circuit per code to the bathroom and add a new outlet GFCI Safety Type. Add a new 110 cfm Broan sone exhaust fan in bathroom and vent out properly with insulated duct. Control new fan by a switch. Remove existing ceiling light and install new owner supplied fix wire Option - 3 - To protect general outlet circuits with GFCI per code. Show owner how to replace all the 2 wire type outlets in the house with new 3 wire type. All standard outlets and labor by owner. Option - 4 - add a new dedicated circuit and outlet for spacesaver microwave. Add a new dedicated circuit and a double places to plug into - GFCI Safety Type outlets for kitchen counter. Add a new grounded outlet for the refrigerator. Add a new dedicated circuit for the dishwasher disconnect form the general outlets Option - 5 - remove existing center light in the kitchen and install new owner supplied fixture. Option - 6 - alter circuits in the basement. Includes all the following only. A) Rewire the hot water heater with a new proper grounded circuit. B) Rewire the washer and dryer with proper grounded circuits. C) Add one new general outlet in new utility room (for iron etc.). D) Install new switch for utility room and rewire the light properly. Secure the box and install owner's new light fixture.

Carl was on time when it came time to do the work cleaned up his mess and answered any and all questions I had during the work. The only drawback was getting the very heavy man lift up the front steps and through the front door for he forgot about the steps and we kinda scuffed up the leading edges of all three steps. He brought a large carpet to protect my hardwood floors from the man lift extension
Description of Work: I had a Hunter Ceiling fan installed in the great room that has a cathedral ceiling, 5 dimmer switches through out the house, and 2 pendant lights in the kitchen.

He came, on time, but ventured all over the house taking pictures and looking for other sources of income for his firm. He ripped the sticker of Chambers Prairie Electric off of my circuit box and replaced it with his own. I was so unhappy with the scope creep and prices he quoted me that I never called him to do the work. Later on, because his sticker was on my circuit box, a potential buyer contacted him to ask about electrical work and he shared photographs he had taken of my home. Very unethical. I would never use him or recommend him.
Description of Work: As I was unhappy with the estimate process, I never hired him. His prices were high. He exceeded the scope of what I asked him to quote. And he ripped off the sticker of the electricians who installed my circuit panel and put his own sticker there. Very unhappy with my experience.

Description of Work: Rick was very nice & professional. I had an issuse with a light switch and had troubleshooted by fixing many little things but to no avail. He told me what it was, told me what to do I said I could do it and it would save me money. He left with a "call if you need me! I did what he said to no avail and he probably only got 10 min away before I called him back. So he fixed it and put up the light fixture. Problem was simple to fix. I was happy, everyone was happy.  + 0 moreThe area manager or the local manager of the generator company recommended them. Everything is working perfectly. They really knew what they were doing and were extremely competent. They were late every time. We had some communication difficulty. There was no unprofessionalism. I wanted a couple of things that they didn't understand or maybe I misunderstood. It was a communication breakdown a couple of times. They were a little too expensive. The main thing that happened negative with them was they used a sub-contractor to do the piping of the gas. He called up to tell us when he would be out and said that he charged $750.00 for the work. I told Mr. Electric that we would find our own piping guy and not use theirs. Sure enough I saved 300 bucks doing that by using a heating and cooling company. I told Mr. Electric that the amount I saved reflected on his business. He thanked me for the referral and said that he would use them if he was in the area. He did a nice turnaround in the end, but that was the one thing that reflected on him to me that he was using a rip-off plumbing guy. We would use them again in the future.
Description of Work: Mr. Electric installed the new residential generator and the panel and hooked them up.

Description of Work: A circuit for exterior lighting was shorting out, and the cause was not obvious. He came, paid attention while I described the steps I'd taken to isolate the problem, started systematically going through the switches and fixtures on the circuit, found the problem, and fixed it. All within an hour.
