Islander roofing came out the following day after a heavy rainfall which exposed the leak. They went up and came down in 5 minutes, said all that was needed was some caulking around the vent. Another 10 minutes and they were done and gone. The roof was only 6 years old so I didn’t think it could be anything major.

Good except for follow up questions after they were done. There is a flat spot on our roof that does not look finished. ( A small area in the back that you cannot see from the ground, but you see it from the second story windows. ) I tried multiple times to get a response from them to no avail. I may need to work with another roofer to get it finished, I'm afraid. The roof looks great except for the small flat spot. The roof is a dark brown, and the flat spot looks like a membrane or plastic which is white. Another roofer I know who does flat roofs for a living said this needs to be covered with a colored silicon in order to match the rest of the roof. It's not that big a deal, but I would have at least appreciated a response from them to see what they think. I'd hire for a basic roof again ( no flat spots ) as they where a good price and the owner is a good, honest guy. He is very fair with his pricing. They found roof rot and bad, leaky skylights and he charged a very fair price for that. In fact I may use them for a work shop when that needs a new roof. Many of the roofing companies I got quotes from try to jack up the price with cheesy sales tactics. The owner of Islander roofing is straight with you from the get go. No up selling or other tricks. He's very busy for a reason. He does do good work. Just hard to get a hold of.

Original quote was very attractive price. When it was determined that sheathing would be needed the price was a bit higher than it should have been. During roofing it became clear that a bit of roof over a breezeway would need to be replaced. By that point it was really too late to get competing bids and the price was much higher than it should have been. Finally, a polycarbonate sun panel over a sliding glass door was simply roofed over without consulting me first. A very small concession was given in the final price for this error. The shingles used were not a common brand and, while 50 year architectural shingles, it remains to be seen how they endure and if any warranty claims will be honored. The work was done promptly, efficiently, and the cleanup was excellent. I feel a bit taken advantage of regarding the breezeway and the loss of the sun panel. But the work itself was done pretty well. The initial price was much lower than other contractors but I'm not sure that the final price was much different than it would have been with another contractor. The contractor's website indicated that they accept Visa and MasterCard but they are reluctant to actually accept them. I was able to pay cash but not everyone is in that situation. When you find yourself needing an emergency reroofing, be sure that you research the shingles that will be used in advance. Get several estimates. And insist that the contractors spell out the work to be done in detail.
Description of Work: Removed cedar shake roof, added sheathing, felt and composition shingles. Rebuilt an overhang over a breezeway.

They came in with a good bid, were polite and punctual. I was told that they hand nail the shingles, but upon watching the installers realized they were using guns and the nails weren't flush with the shigle, which will cause it to wear and leak. Also, the skylight that they "repaired" is now leaking and loose again after only one winter.
Description of Work: New shingle roof with skylight repair. Singles stapled in, not flat. Large portion of roofing slipped 3 months after installation. Roof not vented correctly, needed soffet vents in addition to vent ridge.

They were up on the roof for a half an hour, and they charged me $600. I only paid them $400, but I was ripped at that. Two guys were in the truck, while one guy was on the roof. He looked like a bum. The owner and his son sat in his truck, and it was a cold day. It was incredibly bad.
Description of Work: They came out and cleaned out the valleys on the roof.
