Diane and her group were professional, prompt and quick painting virtually the entire interior of a 3,000 sq foot house. She was very patient sitting with us and helping us with a color scheme and layout. Once all this was decided the job went on the schedule agreed upon and finished on time. The price was fair and she handled change well (which happened more than once). We have no reservation using her in the future and plan to again soon.

Diane came to my home, and we talked about paint colors for the entire house (inside and out) as well as components of remodeling my 30-some year old kitchen and bathrooms; flooring for the entire house and light fixtures; window coverings. She asks the owner to do some thinking about the project in advance so she can zero in on what the client wants, then applies her own take on how this might fit together and how to make it all work out best. After a two-hour meeting, she followed up with a detailed list of paint colors for interior and exterior spaces via e-mail, using specific paint color names for the paint vendor she prefers - within a few days, despite the fact that it meant her having to work on Memorial Day weekend. As noted above, there's more to come once I'm ready to launch into what will be an extensive project.

It was great! Diane worked with me very quickly to determine the locations of the items. She had lots of good ideas, most of which I agreed with. I especially liked the fact that she likes to work quickly, had lots of ideas about where and how to hang them, and I could just pick what I liked and then, zoom, they were on the wall. She arrived with tools (including a six-foot level--I loved that), paint chips, and we got immediately to work.
Diane was extremely punctual and conscientious, and a very hard worker.
I'm not ready yet to paint the walls, but she had a number of suggestions about that, and helped me with selection of lampshades and mirrors, too. She also kept me pointed in the right direction, e.g., to replace the carpet before I worry about the throw pillows. It was exactly the kind of help I wanted.

This is my second experience with Eye Candy / Diane! She rocks!
Diane came to the house a few weeks in advance, listened to my ramblings re: things I like / dislike re: the overall 'mood' of the home (mostly related to colors on the wall). She helped me select colors to meet my goals (i.e. tie-in existing furniture as much as possible, help colors flow from room to room, create a sunny and warm feeling). Diane ordered the paints for my project, accommodated my hopes to use a Groupon, and applied her contractor discount toward the overall expense. I picked up the paint and supplies and left them in my house so Diane could begin the project while we were out of town / in-and-out on business.
Diane and Morgan were able to paint our living room, dining room, hallway and bathroom in 3 days. They did a marvelous job! They are both so talented and artistic. (I keep thinking 'anyone' can slap paint on the wall, but they do SO MUCH MORE than that!) I love Diane and Morgan's energy and am more than a little jealous that any one person can possess so much artful talent while I wallow in a eclectic / schizophrenic land of color / space / art / design.

She was very friendly and easy to work with, had lots of helpful ideas, and was very willing to listen to what we wanted. She had lots of good suggestions, but didn?t insist on them if we didn?t agree. Ultimately, we accepted most of her recommendations. She helped us select new colors and gently encouraged us to consider the painting the ceilings at the same time as the walls, as it would make the walls look better and enhance the overall improvement. She was so right. The rooms look lovely.
Diane is also very detailed minded and a great problem solver. When we complained about a sloppy previous painter leaving paint on the tiles around the fireplace she came up with a way to disguise it. On her own she also took care of the old paint on the wood window sills so it would no longer be noticed.
She encouraged us to use Chinook Book coupons to save on paint costs, and she was always very sensitive to how our color choices would affect the total cost of paint. Her efforts kept the cost of the paint down quite a bit.
We would definitely recommend her to others. She is very conscientious, knowledgeable, has good aesthetic taste, and is a hard worker who is pleasant to work with. (Her daughter was also very nice to work with.) We are very pleased with how the job turned out. All of the rooms are colorful and so much more cheerful than before. The colors we selected fit in very well with our furnishings, and we really like the way everything looks.

We had a great overall experience with Diane, as well as with her daughter Morgan. Diane was very down-to-earth and easy to work with. Her pricing was fair. I really appreciated her honest opinions and recommendations. I?d actually worked with a color consultant previously. While I liked those suggested colors I was concerned that they wouldn?t work in my new house, which had a lot less light. When I worked with Diane I realized that working with just a single, small color palette was very limiting. She was able to guide me to colors that worked far better in my new house, based on her actual color experience as well as having multiple color lines to draw from. We ended up choosing new colors from various different high-quality manufacturers. Diane was far less expensive as a consultant, had actually seen and applied many of the colors previously AND we ended up with the best colors for our house.
Regarding the actual painting, Diane?s bids to paint various parts of our house were very competitive. I selected Diane to do the painting based on her top Angie?s List ratings and competitive bid, but also due in large part to feeling very comfortable working with her. She clearly demonstrated strong experience, knowledge and a very pleasant and positive personality. She listened to/observed and figured out my preferences and worked with them as we fine-tuned our paint choices. We initially had her paint only certain areas, thinking we would do the rest ourselves eventually to save money. But compared to her I was excruciatingly slow, and it?s really tiring and detail-oriented work! She clearly had the experience, knew what she was doing and did a better job in a fraction of the time. So we had her paint some areas, then painted several rooms ourselves, then called her back in when we ran short on time. We?d also used another Angie?s List painter previously. While he did a good job, we had to select/provide the colors. And I never really felt comfortable interacting with him. Diane has a tremendous advantage in being able to not only paint, but also to provide color guidance and design advice, plus she?s versatile in having experience in a variety of home remodeling areas. As a result her recommendations were practical and cohesive. She also frequently went above and beyond. She shared a lot of valuable painting suggestions that helped me paint other rooms myself ? e.g. what materials to buy and from where to save money but not compromise on quality. She even provided my husband some unsolicited (but welcome!) tips while he was re-tiling our fireplace. Based on her own professional tiling experience she told him about a certain tool he should buy and where to get it. I believe it resulted in a much easier tile job and better outcome!
I've now remodeled 2 homes (painting, floors, kitchens, baths etc.) and I've had the best overall experience working with Diane. If you're looking for a high quality result at a fair price, I would strongly recommend Diane (and Morgan), both for design services as well as painting.

My experience was great. Diane is very personable and really tries to draw your personality out to determine the kinds of colors and things that you like. It was a little tricky because I have paintable wallpaper in my house and it's a bit more difficult to choose paint because of the way it takes the color. I also wanted to make sure that the colors flowed from room to room. Diane offered great suggestions and followed up with an email and an envelope mailed with paint chips and options ...kind of recounting what we had talked about. She even offered advice on pilows for the sectional and area rug colors as well. She arrived early and stayed late!

"Thank you! I would love to see a photo of your painted embossed wallpaper. I also want to thank you for showing me the trim color you were using...It has become a new favorite of mine. I love how we get to learn something new every single day!"

Diane came for an appointment, and within the time alloted she provided me (and my mother who lives with me) with very helpful information. Arriving on time, she was a joy to work with. I had some ideas, and she was able to help me focus on specific points that would help me make decisions. She also made suggestions for tile for the wall in the kitchen that I had not considered and was much appreciated. Diane was also very helpful in suggesting vendors who may be able to supply materials needed, while staying inside a budget. She provided an email after the appointment with the list of colors we selected along the places to go to get good materials for various other projects on a budget. She suggested materials (such as the kitchen counters) that I had not thought of for example. I appreciated her friendly and demeanor, and would not hesitate to ask her back if further information is needed on my current project, or if I have other questions throughout the rest of the house.

It seemed like I should have had a second visit to finish the service. I'm not really sure what they did for me.
Response from Eye Candy Interiors
"Hello, I am both sorry and surprised that you are not sure what I did for you and your husband. Together the three of us selected colors for your entire home, Living room, Dining area/Kitchen, your quilting area, each of your offices, the long hallway that connects everything and we selected an accent for your entry as well as a ceiling color to tie all of the areas together. I provided the color names and codes for each as well as recommendations for finishes. I even sent a link for a coupon I found for the paint. We talked about how rather than replace all of the cabinet faces in the Kitchen, you could just do the bases and possibly select a darker color for them as they were more inclined to get abused. I sent resource info for the very best deals I have found for doing this. When you told me that you were reflooring the living and the quilting area, I noticed how your flooring changed at a odd transition that really made your Living room feel about a third smaller than it is. When I pointed out how the new flooring could be threaded into the old at the clipped entry to the kitchen, your husband expressed how pleased he was to have me there to figure that out. I attached resource links to local distributors who carry your type as well as many other styles of wood flooring. I did some research on another type of floor you were interested in as well, found it would not work, and let you know right away. In your master bath that you were going to remodel soon, I figured out a way to give you wheelchair access to the whole walk-in closet by splitting the two sinks (that were being replaced anyway) from each other and moving the closet door on the non-load bearing wall just 4 feet over. Viola! Access to the whole big closet rather than half of it. You both seemed pretty impressed at the time. I thought that was one of those fabled a-ha moments. I also sent info for flooring that would work very well here. I know a woman who does color consulting locally for a single popular brand of paint. It costs twice what the Big Deal you bought did and she stays for half as long. The colors you are selecting from with her are from one companies limited palette, and she never does anything other that talk about paint. When I show up I bring six different companies huge color fan decks, 20 years of architectural, design, and construction background with a willingness to really try and re-imagine my clients space. I wish that you had written my review when all of this info was fresh...maybe the ideas that I am discussing here started to seem like they were always there and you do not attribute them to me and my visit any longer..."

I needed some help deciding on colors for paint and wood. I thought I would be criticized for lack of decorating skills, but Diane provided a lot of encouragement. I wanted to know that I was moving in the right direction for the flooring and it turned out that I found something better during this process. I've also struggled with painting the kitchen because the color I chose blended in with the cabinets. I really wanted to focus on those two items but Diane pressed me a little more of what my overall vision was for the entire room so I was able to get additional recommendations for the kitchen flooring and window coverings. She even pointed out a feature in the living room that needed a change to fit in with the decor which I totally ignore because it's an eye sore that I choose to forget; the fireplace. Diane has such an ease about her that it was simple to discuss color palettes. After the visit she sent a short comprehensive list of the recommendations and places to visit. I enjoyed my time through this process.

My experience with them was okay, and I was not totally satisfied with what I got, which was too little. They were very friendly, but I had a question about their ability to do the work well. The price was okay. I would probably not use them again in the future.

"I spent over two hours with your parents who redeemed this Big Deal... together we selected colors for a Living room/ library, an entry hall, a master bedroom, and a kitchen/great room. They showed me the custom bookcases your father made with some design assistance from you, and new rugs they had just purchased. We came up with compatible window treatment ideas for the great room and I gave them the number for a colleague who does on site measuring and custom window treatment advice, gratis, as part of her mobile sales reping for a local shop who sells over a dozen different window treatment companies full lines. I gave them some lower cost locations to go ahead and seek out some inexpensive tab top linen panels for the easier to dress windows. We selected some custom low profile furniture ideas for the lower ceiling area of the library. I provided them with a local resource who were featuring those chairs custom upholstered at 30% off that month. I went so far as to even track down exactly the oak glider chair your incredibly sweet Mother had fantasized about... for a song in a Craigslist ad no less. As far as my ability to do the work well I can only assume you mean the actual painting which I was not asked to bid on. I was told that they would be doing it with your assistance. I hope your parents are doing well, I really enjoyed my time with them."

I really enjoyed spending the time with Diane. She was down to earth, friendly and extremely easy to talk to. In addition to suggesting and helping me to narrow down paint colors she provided a broad range of suggestions to update the appearance of our house, everything from suggesting that we update the kitchen backsplash to ways to increase the light in our home, and more. I was able to bounce my ideas off of her to see if they made sense or could be improved upon. She was like having a friend come over to help you make design decisions, only this friend is objective and has real experience and expertise. She recommended specific websites and stores where I could look at specific materials. She was very understanding about budget constraints, suggesting options that could be done now or later. We plan on using Diane to paint parts of our house. Since we’re having other work done on our house by contractors we hope to be able to paint some rooms by ourselves to save money. Diane was fine either way. The good thing is that we know what colors to use so we can do it ourselves. I’m very happy that I found Diane. I would definitely recommend her for a color and design consultation.

We had the exterior of our house painted this summer; we knew roughly what color scheme we wanted, but weren't confident enough to pick the exact colors ourselves. Diane listened to our situation, evaluated our color choices, and guided us to a color palette that we love! The house really stands out now, and we are thrilled that we used her expert guidance rather than trying to pick the final colors ourselves.
We are also planning to remodel our kitchen/dining room next summer, and Diane consulted on several possibilities for design options, color schemes, etc, and gave us several things to think about as we plan for the remodel. Her advice was very helpful.

Diane was great to work with -- very friendly, professional, and articulate. She listened carefully to our wishes and stayed on task and on topic. Unlike some consultants we’ve encountered in the past, she didn’t have an agenda of her own or try to push her tastes upon us; instead she gave us plenty of ideas based on what we told her we wanted. We especially appreciated that she was extremely productive in the short time she was with us, with very specific suggestions and ideas that she recorded in full – lots of specifics on color choices that we’ll have as a long-term reference – and later sent us in an email. We received her email less than 24 hours later, so the customer service was great.

I first had an estimate done by Morgan, who is Dianne's daughter, last fall when her mom was out of town. Morgan was polite and seemed to know her stuff well having both worked with other paint companies and then working with her mom. We were painting a master bedroom with a ton of trim dark brown. Also needed some ceiling stains worked on, and ceiling painted, and a bit of the trip with sap stains done. The quotation for work came back promptly and was in the same range as two other competitors I'd had over. We needed to delay the work for a while. But in the spring when I wanted to finally get the work done, it was Morgan's delightful personality that stood out to me and I knew that she and her mom were the ones I'd feel most comfortable with in my home. All those who gave quoatations had been nice - but Morgan stood out. After phone calls and emails discussing the details of getting the job done, the day arrived. They arrived exactly on time. Dianne did a great job working with me to customize the color for the top half of our walls as the paint store had mixed it wrong. When one part of a job went easier and took less time than expected, she offered to work on some other trim areas she had spotted the sap coming through on. Diannes knowledge allowed for great matching on ceiling and trim paint. The two of them worked a long day so that the job was done a little after dinner hour. Dianne let me know to simply call her if I spotted anything that needed more work in the room after the job. With the daylight having gone from the room it would have been difficult to spot any issues. I truly appreciated that she would have been willing to come back over to fix any issue found. All in all, I think they did a great job and would most certainly recommend them.

We were hesitant to use a color consultant for our kitchen re-do, because maybe they wouldn’t really listen or be patient with all the big & little decisions that needed to be made. They might just push their own agenda and be gone. Diane at EyeCandy is like a breeze of fresh air coming in the door. She has a really honest and caring nature, and she’s a great listener – plus she’ll speak candidly about what she sees and feels -- which is a perfect combination for somebody you hire to help transform a living space. She’s got a lot of years of experience choosing color and materials and also DOING the painting, tile setting, stone and other work, so she grasps pretty quickly what is practical to do and what will make a big visual difference. When it’s time to decide what will happen when and who will do what, Diane is (again) really clear about timing and costs. She’s just got a no-nonsense style wrapped in a smart, warm presence. She’s a great resource -- not just for paint colors and finishes, but all the elements that go into a room, like the floor surfaces, the lighting, textures – the whole package! Highly recommended.

This is the second time I've used Diane Kintrea of Eye Candy Interiors in less than 60 days. The result the first time was simply outstanding - as close to perfection as one can imagine. Given that Diane and her staff (her two grown children) are human, I thought it would be unfair to expect similar results on this project. I was wrong: the result was even better this time around. Working with Diane is very much a collaborative process. Though the thin veneer of bland paint on my bathroom walls was something I knew I wanted to replace, I had very little idea about the look I wanted. No problem! Diane and I reviewed a zillion paint chips, talked about options, and ended up experimenting with a quart of one color only to find that another color was much better. Diane is a true pleasure to work with, and I won't hesitate to use her a third time should I want to update colors in a different part of my home. She sets an incredibly high bar for other contractors to try to emulate.

"I am so thankful that I was fortunate enough to work for that first Angie's List member. Since that first review I have had the pleasure of working with so many great people. This particular job was so rewarding. I just love it when someone as outgoing as you selects colors that reflect their personality with a bold statement! It is especially fun when I get to start out with such a monochromatic prefab beige palatte... The whole project feels like we went from zero to sixty in just a week! I hope you are very happy for years to come in your new home. Thanks so much for your kind words!"
