We would have definitely used Top Hat but we also needed stucco repair to the same area so we would have needed to have another contractor in for that part of the repair. Will call Top Hat again for any chimney cleaning.

+ -1 morethey did not show up on time. i called after waiting more than an hour and was told they had workers out sick. she said she would try to reschedule and call me back. she never called back, but someone arrived at the end of the day. i just happened to be home -- had no idea they were even coming. the man who did come was pleasant and apologized for the problem.

+ -1 moreCalled Top Hat as a recommendation from Kirkland Fireplace to have my 20+ year old Fireplace Extraordinaire cleaned. I discussed my situation where I need to have someone look at my fireplace as it would not be a standard clean and some work may need to be done to the fireplace chimney prior to the cleaning. I was told the fee for even showing up at my residence would cost me $85 WITHOUT any work being done. I would have liked to have considered Top Hat for my project, but a service fee for an estimate IS NOT industry standardand unreasonable in my eyes. I have had other local chimney sweep company?s out to look at the project and neither of them charged a fee for a quote. Good luck Top Hat !

Description of Work: Actually, they didn't perform the service at the address where we are now, but at the address where we lived the year before. They informed us that they couldn't clean the one chimney because the wood stove insert had not been installed properly (We were renting the house). They did clean the other chimney. They were very professional at both houses, and we learned a lot from the information they gave us. We'll be moving to Montana soon, so we won't be able to use them again, but we highly recommend them to anyone in the Seattle area. You won't regret hiring them!

Description of Work: Bill Maiers has cleaned our chimneys for many years. In 2009 he reported that our chimney was cracked and needed to be fixed. He and his associate explained the various ways it could be fixed. We did our own research and ultimately, asked Bill to do the job.

+ 0 moreOverall, it seems to have gone quite well. Since the repair needed is to keep leaks from occurring near the chimney vent, we won't really know until the next good rain but we're pretty sure they did a good job as they were very professional and made sure we understood what the issue was and what they would be doing to fix it. They coordinated well with the roofer and completed the work as scheduled.
Description of Work: The flashing for the chimney vent (we have a metal stand alone fireplace) was discovered to need repair as a result of putting a new roof on the house. Top hat chimney came out and worked with the roofers to replace the flashing. It required an unusual piece due to the slope of our roof and they searched about to find a piece that appropriately priced and did the work in a couple of hours.

+ -1 moreBill and Kirk made an appointment to come a week after we telephoned and made our commitment to them. which alllowed time for materials necessary for the job to be delivered. They arrived when they said they would; worked steadily and pleasantly, and left a clean worksite. Again, they took the time to answer all of our questions. They have responded to jobs in Leavenworth, Cle Elum, and south and north of Seattle.
Description of Work: In the Spring when Bill and Kirk came to clean our chimney flues, especially the fireplace with the woodstove insert, they discovered that its flue was cracked. Judging from the flue's appearance, there had been a chimney fire at one point. We were told not to use it again until it was repaired. Bill and Kirk explained different possible solutions. After thoroughly researching different methods of repair and different vendors, we returned to Top Hat satisfied with their solution which was not only the best but also the least expensive. A new, insulated stainless steel pipe was installed; the plate was sealed to the flue with ceramic insulation and vermiculite and the chimney cap was repainted.
