They arrived on time as scheduled and even early once. The work looks complete from the ground but I really won't know until it rains again. The work scope looked appropriate, their prices were very reasonable, the work was done professionally on time and to estimates. My chimney pipe had a weird protrusion that needed to be cut off to fit on the new chase. In doing so, it got a little bent but I was assured that it would still be functional and waterproof. However, I dinged them a little on quality for the bent pipe even though it might not have been their fault.

Emerald City was the middle bid out of three - but just barely higher than the low bid. We chose them because they were sending a crew of three, which would get our job completed in 1.5 days vs. 3-5. By noon the first day, they had set scaffolding, tarp off back of scaffold facing neighbor's home, and ground out old mortar. The mortar was basically sand - very soft and contained a lot of black powder. To be honest, this part was quite a mess and we did not anticipate what a mess three power grinders would cause. However, the grinding part was done in an 1-2 hours. I was concerned about the mess on the roof, windows, front porch - but the crew washed down everything. Once the grinding was done, they applied the new masonry, which took the rest of the day and a bit the morning of the following day. They installed a new cap and flashing. They also installed a new clean-out door to my fireplace. They then cleaned all our brickwork, hand brushing much of it with their acid solution taking out stains and any residual mud that overlapped onto the brickwork. When I returned home, everything was meticulously cleaned up: roof clean, walk below, and work area that they had inhabited on the side of my home. I was relieved, as I was a bit concerned based on the debris created from day one. My advice to anyone having this done, is to understand that it is a filthy process. A neighbor had their entire brick home tuck pointed, and they used a commercial company that had a vacuum system to reduce the amount of debris. That company also bid our work and it was almost $2,000 higher - mostly because of the vacuum system. Just doing a chimney, probably not necessary. Doing a larger surface, however, it would be a must. All in all, Emerald City sent a seasoned, experienced crew that was hard working and responsible, following up on all my concerns.

Called to schedule an estimate; the very pleasant receptionist stated they do not service my area and referred me to Chimney Specialists in Auburn.

We had a good experience with Emerald City Chimney. Wayne came out to give the estimate and he also completed the work with two other guys. They worked quickly, finishing the job in one day, and did a fantastic job on the fireplace! We emailed a picture of how we wanted the fireplace to look, and Wayne was able to recommend the color and the type of stone. I noticed that he had printed the picture out and brought it with him on installation day, and took the time to replicate some of the vertical elements of the stone work. We are very happy with the results!

Scheduled for them to come and give an estimate. The day they came out my wife was home and she said that they explained things very well. We chose them because of their price and schedule. They did the estimate on Thurs/Fri and were out to the house to do the work on Wed of the following week. Wed morning they came out and showed up a little early and started working right away. They were careful and performed the work well and quickly. Cleaned up after they were done. Chimney looks great and they were done in less than a day.

They were great. Showed up a few minutes early. Set out a tarp and taped off the one chimney that we knew needed cleaning. Then he looked at the other chimney we weren't sure about--looked from below and then took off the cap to look down from above. He decided it didn't need cleaning and didn't charge anything for that one. Then he cleaned the dirty chimney and left the place spotless. He was very courteous. I had them clean our chimney before and I'll have them do it again next time.

On time, friendly, professional, seemed to know what they were doing, told me I didn't need as much service as I thought I did, so I presume very honest.

They were great! They were so clean. I was worried about getting soot in the house. They put down drop cloths. You couldn't tell they had been here. Everything was spotless! It was cleaner when they left than when they came.

The sweep was here on time, performed his job professionally and at a reasonable rate. Couldn't ask for more.

Per expectations set over the phone, cleaning would be done only if necessary. It was not for the oil stove chimney. Bruce arrived on time, was very careful in sealing up the fireplace opening and placing tarp down to protect the hearth and hardwood floor. The work was completed neatly and all of the materials he used were removed from the house. He explained the results of the inspection and at my request, provided a quote on a chimney cap that would better protect the oil stove chimney against down drafts.

It was a good experience. No sales pitches. Answered my questions fully. Prompt and professional. No messes. I will definitely use them again.

Not much to say -- he showed up on time, inspected both chimneys and cleaned one of them, cleaned up his work area and then took off. He also said that in a year or two we would need to re-caulk some flashing, but that it wasn't necessary right now. He struck me as honest and knowledgeable.

They did an excellent job; they put down tarp to protect the lawn and cleaned up all debris. Both were very professional.

The work went very well. The price was reasonable. I rate them high.

The gentleman who did the work was quick and clean. He did a good job.

Badly. They gave me a low price even though I told them they would need two people. Lower than they did the last time. I knew the chimney was up to code and there was a ceramic pipe inside the chimney. It did require that the insert had to be removed. They had done the work previously. One person showed up and they claimed that they didn't know they needed two people and said it wasn't up to code, implying that there would be a lot of work needed. I said I didn't want any extra work just clean the chimney. I got angry and he said he could pass on the work. I said fine. I called the office and they denied that I told them they needed two people. The new price for two people was $259.95... higher, but what I had originally expected. I thought they were going to try and sell me on doing a lot of unneeded work. Frank was not specific on exactly what was supposed to be wrong with my chimney. I did not have confidence in the employee and thought they were just going to try and charge me for a lot of extra work.

Frank arrived on time, and spent almost an hour on the job. Seemed to be competent and pretty thorough. Told us about 3rd stage creosote buildup on inside of fireplace and recommended buying some creosote spray to spray on inside of fireplace or wood to help break up the build up, as his scrubbing doesn't remove it. He recommended Home Depot, but they don't sell it this time of year. Will have to check a fireplace store. Why doesn't Frank have a can or 2 for sale? Also, Frank put several large sooty hand prints on the white brick above the fireplace, and then walked upstairs on the carpet to hand me the bill (I was coming down to get it, really!!) and left sooty foot prints. He had asked for and been given an extra drop cloth to put under the one he brought, as his prior job had been really dirty and both sides of his drop cloth were already dirty. The soot came out of the carpet and off the brick, but . . . I was hoping to avoid that kind of avoidable mess.

They did a good job but at first when they gave me the estimate they told me I needed to replace the crown. When they came out they said I didn't need to have it done but they didn't take that off the bill. They also did some waterproofing which wasn't on the estimate but was less expensive than replacing the crown. I feel I was overcharged.

Courteous, strange, unrewarding effort to no avail. A wasted morning waiting for service that wouldn't be performed.

They came and inspected the chimney and said everything was fine. They recommended having a cap on it. I am not sure if they are the same people that we did the cap. I don t know if they did that or recommended somebody. I was satisfied with the work and everything was good.

The work was very good quality and quick. There was a small mis-communication regarding the estimate but we worked it out. There was a delay in getting the work done due to the snow.

Very well. I appreciated the honesty in telling me that the chimney was clean and did not need sweeping. He indicated two maintenance jobs that should be done in the future and gave me an estimate. Emerald City's price for the inspection was far below the second company I called, which was also on Angie's List. It is located in Woodinville.

EMERALD CITY CHIMNEY quoted $600 for repair then called the next day & said "because of the rise of material costs, the job is now quoted out at $970. PRACTICALLY DOUBLE THE ORIGINAL QUOTE. I then proceeded to call 2 other chimney outfits & both of them came in at $600. Ed's Chimney did a terrific job. They were courteous, quick, professional, clean, etc. I found it interesting that both of the other outfits were able to do the job for $600 & EMERALD CITY CHIMNEY could only do it for DOUBLE that amount. OBVIOUSLY THEY ARE A TOTAL RIP-OFF!!! Anyone who uses Emerald City Chimney for anything whatsoever will certainly get what they deserve(ripped-off).
