They showed up right on time for the bid and presented the bid right away, instead of sending it a day or two later as has been my experience on other projects. They were on time for the work and got it done in the time expected. They ended up having to do more repairs than originally anticipated, but presented a bid for that while they were at the house. I am happy with the work, although it was expensive. I believe the chimney rebuilds are just costly no matter what. Emerald City was professional and prompt and did what we asked.

They are very honest and knowledgeable. They listen to the customers needs and they don’t pressure you to do anything you don’t need. I have been using them for years.

I had Emerald City Chimney out to bid on the repair of a 95 year old chimney. I had about 5 other vendors out so I was very familiar with what the issues with my chimney were and what I should expect to pay. All of the companies came in around the same scope of work with some variance on price - with the exception of Emerald City Chimney. The individual who came out, Frank, never took off his sunglasses while were were reviewing the work needed. This was not really relevant but I thought it was curious. Frank proceeded to tell me why I needed to tear down my chimney to the ground and rebuild it. Every other vendor felt my chimney was in fairly good shape but definitely needed a TuckPoint job. Also I thought it was interesting that Frank did not offer to rebuild using my beautiful old bricks but offered a myriad of colors of new brick to choose from. [shrug] I notice that hauling away my bricks was part of the estimate. I suspect there's a healthy market for these bricks as two vendors indicated that my particular type of brick is rare and sought after. Back to the important part. The estimate for the work was $9100 before tax. I just had the correct work completed for $2440 and my grand old chimney looks wonderful. Note: I took photos of the chimney so you can see that it was never in any condition to be torn down and replaced. It seems this site doesn't support photos however.

They were timely, left a bid and did the job. I thought they were worth using.

. The owner of the company and his helper came down and did a perfect job. But there is some follow up work to be completed. I contacted them and we had to re-schedule the work because of the rains. When the estimator came by and gave me the price quote I found Emerald Chimney reasonable when compared to the other 2 or 3 quotes I had. He wanted the deposit to schedule the work. I wanted the job done quickly and get my chimney fixed. But when the owner came by and reviewed the price quote he said that there is some miss-communication because the owner had to call back the estimator to make sure that it is re-calculated because the cost would be higher than the estimate he gave me. The owner felt it is based on the regional dates and it is quoted very low. I did not want the estimator to be seen in bad light and also because I did not want to go on negotiating, I don’t remember how much exactly I paid but I paid $200 more. That has been my experience. One needs to make sure clearly what they want and make sure about the deposits. The price may change later on or not. He went up on my roof and said that the chimney is in a bad condition and that made me feel very nervous. I rather pay $200 more just get the job done. Furthermore I had already waited half a day for them and if it is not done all that would be a waste. He was not bad at all. He did everything I wanted and he made it very beautiful. So I am happy. Price wise I would say it was a good deal. The original price, I forget exactly how much but it was around $1000 later on I paid $200 more so $1200 was not a bad deal. But he was not competitive. As for quality they were very professional and knowledgeable for example the brick that were used is more than 40 years and is from California. Such bricks were not available here and in those times they don’t think about the weather condition between Washington and California and such stuff. They gave me a lot of information like that. If I want to use them in the future I will pay more attention to the details.

I did not use them. They were very responsive and quick to produce the quote. I basically used them in the purchase of a home and I ended up not needing them. It seemed like they had done that type of work before and it didn't intimidate them. They were confident in being able to identify a solution even though they didn't go out onsite.

Caulking appears to have resolved our issue. The company was courteous and professional.

I called and left a voicemail requesting a service appointment and NEVER received a return call from Emerald City.

They were great. They provided a free service call and noticed I needed a new cap on my chimney. They replaced it and did great work.

Everything went well. They arrived on time and did an excellent job.

I said I wouldn't go with them because they couldn't do the entire job that was needed; but, I might consider them just to do a cleaning sometime. The estimator who came out was nice and friendly.

Although we received an estimate, we did not hire Emerald City Chimneys to do our cleaning/repair work.

I had contacted them because we seldom use the wood burning fireplace and when we do we always get smoke in the living room. I wanted to avoid that happening over the holidays. He said if we allowed a little draft there would be no smoke. We also discussed options like adding a cap to the chimney or installing a gas fireplace. He said he would have additional information sent from their office, but I never received anything from them. When we followed his instructions and started a fire for our holiday guests, the living room filled with smoke immediately. Although I dont hold the technician or company responsible, I felt I had wasted my money, with none to waste, and I was left with a negative impression.

Great work. They were on time every time. They answered all of my questions. They were very professional.

At this point, I cannot remember the details! Just that we used Angie's List to find the names of A rated roofers, and chimney repair firms in our area - called to arrange an examination of the whole leakage problem around the chimney - and then schedule first the roofer then the chimney repair- We were very impressed with both of these businesses and the professional way they did their jobs. All contacts were promp and pleasant, and the work done as scheduled, at a price we thought was reasonable and fair. In fact, we asked for business cards from Emerald City so we could recommend them to others. Our house was built in 1957, and the chimney had never had work done. The repairs actually seemed to be somewhat minimal, given the age.

Emerald City Chimney Inc. Company provided an excellent service. I thought that they were very reasonable. They were organized. They were dependable. They were honest. I would use them again in the future.

I received the Angies List discount. They were awesome. They were very accommodating. I had a very short timeline for the sale of the house. They were able to fit me in with the cancellation. They were also accommodating. They wanted to give me a quote over the phone. So I took a picture of what we had going on with my cell phone and send that to him. They called me back and talked about it looking at the picture. They were here the very next day and they did a very good work. I thought they were very prompt and very professional. They did very nice work. My chimney was a little abnormal and this caused the cost to go up. If it were the standard sized chimney the cost would have been about $200 or $ 300 less. Since it was an abnormal sized chimney he had to do some special work. It required actually an additional cap and so it was custom work. As for the price I had talked to a number of different companies and they were all quoting the same ball part price. He had the Angies List discount and he brought it up. He informed me that Angies List members can avail the discount. As for punctuality he had made the time at 9AM the next morning and the guy was here at 9. They had set my expectations that it would take most of the day. Half way through the fellow who was doing work came down and informed that the work was going very smoothly and that it would be wrapped up in a couple of hours. So they were done early. I would use them in the future.

I found them through Angie's List. I called them for chimney cleaning service, but they did an inspection first. They inspected my chimney first and said it didn't have to be cleaned. They just charged me for the inspection service which was significantly cheaper than the cleaning. Then they pointed out something that needed to be repaired and they gave me a quote. It was a very good interaction. There was no pressure and they didn't try to oversell me or anything. They sent a technician out and he did the inspection. His communication was very good. He answered all my questions. They are willing to credit me the cost of the inspection if I'm going to have any work done in the future. Their price seemed to be pretty reasonable to me. The guy was thorough in his inspection. I would use them again in the future.

They are very punctual and pretty helpful.

Received a voice mail message asking if I wanted work done. I was in meetings all day and did not see the call until after business hours. I found a written estimate by the door when I came home. Several days later I received a bill. I called and found that they had gone ahead and installed the caps even though the estimate clearly stated that an okay from the customer was required. Two other estimates recommended additional work before installing caps. Now I don't know if the installation was completed correctly, if there is outstanding work needed and if the caps have to be removed to complete other repairs. I AM VERY UPSET THAT I HAVE TO GO THROUGH HOOPS TO RESOLVE THIS. NO, I would not recommend using anyone who just goes ahead and fixes something without first communicating with the customer.

The sweep arrived on time and efficiently got to work cleaning the chimney and fireplace. He pointed out that there was a fair amount of debris in our chimney due to the overhanging presence of our big-leaf maple tree (I had noticed this myself) and recommended a metal chimney cap which simply clamped to the top of our chimney. The chimney needed sweeping; although we don't use the fireplace very often, it had been 20 years since it had been swept. But the sweep reported that it was fine in other respects. The net result: A nice clean fireplace and no worries about a chimney fire the next time we light a fire.

They arrived a little early. The service rep determined my needs and immediately noticed the stove pipes were not screwed at the seams. He went to the roof and returned stating that someone (would have been a previous owner) had been burning lots of wet wood and the stove is not safe to use as a result of the build up. Recommended replacing the pipe and cap and gave an estimate. He also checked our other chimney which is used only for gas insert now and gave some recommendations on gettting the exterior masonry cleaned. When I am ready to do that, I will definitely call Emerald City Chimney first. The honesty was refreshing, I really felt they cared more about my safety and the well being of my home than just about making a quick buck.

I like Angie's list and rely on it for many services. I read other customer's reviews before I choose a company for an estimate. When I see an F grade for a company I always read the review and if it is just that they were a no show for an estimate I usually ignore those reviews. I vowed I would not be one of those people but now I am breaking my promise to let you know about my experience with with Emerald City Chimney. One week ago I scheduled an appointment for an estimate to have my chimney tuck pointed and a new cap installed. I read the reviews for the company and was excited to work with someone that valued the customer, was resonable in cost and performed good work. The appointment was for this morning between 9 and 10. My husband and I both work so I took time off to wait for the technician. At 10:15 I could not wait any longer and called Emerald City on my way into work. They were unapologetic and simply stated that the technician should have called to say he was running late. I asked them if I could reschedule the appointment for a time that was convenient for me. She said that the times I requested (before 8am and after 530pm) were outside her scheduling ability. I asked her that if she wasn't willing to accomodate my schedule then was she even interested in my business. She said "apparently not." I will not work with this company and encourage you to think twice before you do. I will work with a company respects me as much as I respect them.

Good website. Called them because of that and AL ratings. They explained their prices and work clearly over the phone and on the website, so I didn't get an estimate visit but just scheduled an appointment to arrive between 3P and 4P I arrived exactly on time and Frank was waiting. He inspected the chimeys and said they were clean and did not need to be swept. He installed 3 chimney caps at $129 each. He offered to seal the brick as well, which should last 10 years, so I had that done too. He explained things well, left a written summary of the inspection and work done and finished in less than an hour. Very pleased. Will call them again.

They were very accommodating financially. We did not have to pay it all at once. They were very efficient and courteous. They work with you. They did come when they said they would.
