Response from Creative Contours (under new management)
Hello. On February 4th I did get into an accident and spent the last 4 days in a bed. Due to the accident my phone been destroyed and I did not have chance to get a new one yet. For the past days I have received different e-mail but one from this customer. If a person calls and the phone goes straight to the voice mail every time, there is probably something wrong. Again I did not received any e-mails regarding a project. Mark

Everything went very smooth and I was very happy. We need to seal the path so that the sand in between pavers stay in place and the color stays, also so weeds won't get in between the cracks of the pavers.
Description of Work: Mark laid down stone pavers with a path that was meandering kind of an s pattern that was difficult to cut. He and his partner worked very hard and it turned out very nice. He made sure that when he did the work that the weather was dry and clear so that it would set up right. I would use Mark again. We get alot of compliments about the path and feel it will last and look good for a long time.

Mark has great ideas. We wanted to create a border along the south side of our property, which is on a hill, and Mark helped us come up with an aesthetically pleasing and functional plan. He and his assistant are very hard workers. The total project time spanned about two weeks. This is the second time we have hired Mark to do a project for us and we have been very pleased both times. He is great at envisioning an end result and has a good eye for contouring the ground to suit the plan. If we have another landscaping project in the future, we will hire him again.
Description of Work: Mark excavated our side yard, brought in topsoil, built a small rock retaining wall and adjusted our sprinkler system to provide water to future plantings.

Mark and his team did a great job. We originally asked Creative Contours and 2 others landscapers to bid on a full redesign of the backyard. Mark impressed us with his creativity and a very competitive proposal, but we just weren?t willing to make the level of investment required. When Mark followed up, I explained that we were pulling back considerably on the scope of the project, and we were looking for creative ideas on fixing up what we had. Mark came over the next day and did a great job to walk me through several options, price/timing/complexity trade-offs, and made some specific recommendations. He followed up with a detailed proposal. Over the coming weeks, Mark and his team worked their tails off (often in terrible weather) to execute against the project. Importantly, throughout the process Mark was in constant contact via email and on my mobile, providing updates and discussing any additional decisions or proposed tweaks to the plan. Also, there were a few situations where Creative Contours had completed work but we wanted something changed?every time Mark had a wonderful attitude, communicated that his #1 goal was our satisfaction and after listening to our preferences, he completed the work to ensure we were happy. At one point, we had to adjust the overall estimate based on incremental work that we required. Once he understood the scope change, Mark quickly pulled together new pricing and we quickly agreed to an adjustment to the deal. Mark and Creative Contours are good guys who work very hard and take a lot of pride in their work. I was satisfied with their design vision, great communication and their solid execution (as you can see in the before and after pics). Thank you Mark and team!
Description of Work: - Cleaned up the yard - Edged and reseeded the lawn - Managed purchase and delivery of 2 distinct shipments of railroad ties - Removed, hauled away and replaced ~25 railroad ties Note: the railroad ties were very heavy and had to be carried from the street level around the house to the backyard - Leveled off a significant bow in the bricks - Redesigned the layout of the flower garden - Redesigned stairway and tiered structure, eliminating one of the 3 levels - Redesigned, “mulched” and planted new flowers/plants throughout the yard - Re-installed fencing - Power-washed absolutely filthy brick

I called them on a Saturday expecting to get an answering service but got Mark directly. Within a hour he showed up at my house (he lives in the area) and examined the yard. Very pleasant person -- friendly with a sense of humor. I could tell he knew what he was talking about -- he identified some of the trees/bushes (planted by previous owner) and talked about options. We wanted bark laid down, bush trimming, and also wanted to get an estimate on sod placement & installation of a french drain. Within a few days he sent us an estimate via email and we decided on just the landscaping (bark). He arrived with a coworker in about a week and it took them around 3 days to complete the job. There was a lot of manual labor -- cleaning the fallen pine needles, and raking around the bushes before the bark was laid down. After he left, the yard looked great - like new.
Description of Work: Provided a free estimate. Did clean up (raking of pine needles, clearing of other debris around the bushes) and laid down bark around all of the plants. Trimmed the bushes in the front and back yard. Also, they mowed the lawn before doing the work (for free)

He was fantastic. Mark is the guy who owns the company. He came out and took a look at our property which was kind of field with rocks and uneven ground. He talked with us and we came up with a plan of how we wanted it smoothed out and leveled out. He brought in truck loads of topsoil and leveled it out. He brought in his bulldozer, smoothed it out and got it ready for the site. He laid the whole yard with side and just did a great job. I am going to use him again; we had our driveway done and he is going to comeback and work on the part around the driveway that got kind of messed up.
Description of Work: He kind of bulldozed our yard around and laid some site for us. He also fixed our sprinkler system which was in-ground sprinkler system and expanded that too so that it reaches all the new areas of the yard.

It went very smoothly for me. I met with Mark twice, once to discuss the project and again after his bid when I decided to have the patio installed higher than grade. Mark made the necessary changes in his bid within 2 days and we were ready to go about 2 days after that. Mark and his helper excavated the area, laid a perimeter of concrete blocks, filled with crushed rock and sand and laid the pavers. They removed and dumped the soil and gravel they dug out.
Description of Work: Mark Satin installed a 10' x 12' raised patio of 24" square architectural pavers 4-6 inches above ground level in my backyard.

Mark was easy to work with and professional. Scheduling meetings was easy and he was willing to meet outside of normal work hours, always returned calls immediately, etc. The initial bid was submitted quickly and final job cost was right on per bid. There were some scheduling issues (equipment problems and a change in the style of paver mid way through the project since the original style choosen was not available) that slowed completion of the project down a little, but he did a really good job of letting me know up front about any schedule slides or changes.
Description of Work: Installed approx 180 sq ft natural flagstone patio adjacent to an existing deck in backyard. Dug out existing earth (approx 4 inches deep), leveled area (installed small retaining wall around back door step) refilled with gravel and installed pavers on a sand bed with paving sand between pavers. Cleaned up exisitng beds around patio and laid beauty bark.

This was an excellent experience. Mark Satin is very professional and does a quality job of landscape installation. My yard was quite a mess, lumpy, sloping erratically, with bad grass and lots of roots. Mark has a very good eye for contouring and his judgment proved to be right. The yard now has a graceful gentle contour and the new lawn looks stunning. I like working with Mark and especially appreciated his willingness to do the job in two phases allowing me to have a concrete walk installed after the initial dirt removal and rough contouring, then installing the grass to the correct level of the walk. Although this meant he had to wait a week to finish the job, the final product shows the care taken at every step.
Description of Work: Regraded my front yard (approx. 25' x 35'), removing a considerable volume of old dirt, stones and roots, then brought in, spread and contoured about 10 yards of new soil and installed about 600 square ft. of new sod.

Mark Satin and his team did an outstanding job. We can't say enough good things about their performance. Mark is a true artist, like a craftsman from another era. First, his bid was very competitive -- almost 50 percent less than a bid we received from another highly-rated contractor on Angie's List. We definitely feel like we received a tremendous value for our investment. The quality of the work was incredible -- very precise, very detailed. Because this was a complicated job, there were a few times during the course of the work where Mark felt the need to change the plan somewhat from what he originally proposed. Each time this happened, he was very good about explaining the changes, and making sure we were OK with it. All the changes were improvements, and they never increased the cost of the project for us. When it was done, the walkway looked even better than we could have imagined. Mark is a very serious worker, very earnest about getting the job done right. We will definitely be hiring him again when the need arises.
Description of Work: We hired Mark Satin to do a complicated job of building a walkway of pavers on a section of our yard that has sloping terrain and really bad drainage issues. The walkway needed to flow in a curving line from our driveway to the side entrance of the home, about 45 feet long, with a variable width of 4 to 5 feet. It also involved demolition and removal of an existing concrete pad, installing drainage piping, relocating some existing drains, and building a natural stone retaining wall to control erosion. The walkway had to be built on a very precise grade, to make sure rainwater coming down the slope flowed away from our home, rather than toward it.

The work was fantastic and I am sad that I didn t do this earlier. My small yard is actually useful and I can have patio parties with my friends. It took Mark about a week to complete the work and he finished earlier than expected. The work is quality and definitely adds value to my property. He also accommodated me by meeting me after hours for design consultation. (When do you ever get a contractor to work around your hours?) He usually met me after 7:30 PM for any consultation. He even went to a home improvement store to pick out lights for me!

They were very punctual, very good about communicating even if one or two of the emails seemed a bit cryptic. When they thought there might be a delay before starting our project due to weather they informed us well in advance, even though they did end up starting when they said. Price was very appropriate for the work done, and they finished on time and a little under the estimate. He was good about listening to our concerns and explaining how the job would be done. Finished work could have been a little more polished, but overall we were well satisfied. We have more projects coming up and they're at the top of our list to hire again.

We asked for a retaining wall, patio and a new grass. I wanted to have a green but simple yard. Not too many flowers so it wouldn't require too much maintenance through out the year. The guys had some great ideas, pictures and material to choose from. Retaining wall & patio is very well done, good quality, job was done quickly and professionally. I am very satisfied with my new backyard and the price I paid. ($14.235.00 including material).
