Ben the owner did the service appt. He prompted and very professional. He did a great job explaining what he was doing during the service appt. I plan to use him again next year.

We purchased the Angie's Deal for an annual furnace tune-up ($69) with Black Lion Heating A/C. Scheduling was easy and the customer service was very friendly. Our appointment was completed within a week of our initial contact. Our service call was very thorough and the technician (I forgot his name!) was very professional. He gave us a maintenance checklist of what was included in our tune up for our specific gas furnace. His evaluation included an overall assessment of our system and he was able to answer all of our questions. We had many questions about new high efficiency gas furnaces and new technology. He answered all of our questions and left some brochures with additional information and pricing. During our service call, we requested a replacement of our roof vent. It was initially installed at an awkward angle by another company and looks crooked exiting our roof. He was able to explain why it looks that way. (The other company shortened the venting in our attic and created the wrong angle for this exit vent.) He did not have the appropriate piece with him, but he quoted us a price and returned within the week to replace it. It looks great and we will definitely contact Black Lion with future furnace/heating needs.

Tech arrived on time and completed the check of the furnace. Also offered to come back to replace the filter if needed in a couple of months to do it at no charge as it was okay and didn't need to be replaced at the time of this service.

Provided honest and accurate information that was not based on just getting more work.

Our furnace broke down in the afternoon of Dec 23. I looked for recommendations in Angie's List and decided to call Black Lion. Ben was super responsive. He had missed my call but called me back within a couple of minutes and set up an appointment. He came out on Dec 24 and conducted an evaluation of the furnace with me standing right by him. We had a furnace from the early '80s, so in addition to cracks and a failing motor, the circuit board was completely dout. He provided an estimate for the repairs that made sense (considering I had done some research already). I then asked him to provide an estimate for replacing the furnace with a new one, and the estimate (including labor) seemed very fair. He said that if they did not have a furnace available in the shop, he'd loan us a few space heaters so we would not have to be in a cold house through Christmas. He left and called a few minutes later to confirm that they did indeed have a furnace. He then came back with Jason and both worked for a few hours taking the old furnace down and installing a brand new one. They were very professional and vaccumed the area before they left. They also made sure i had a chance to look at all the cracks in the old furnace once they dismounted it. I am very pleased with their work and would most certainly call them again.

We picked Black Lion because of the quality reviews here and their price, much lower than three other estimates. And sure enough: the reviews were spot on. They were friendly and clear on the phone, arrived on time, and did excellent work quickly in professionally. The worker checked the furnace also for no charge, suggesting options without pressure, and even suggested that we await the prospect of post-Christmas specials. All in all, a fine choice!

Overall I was very satisfied with the service performed by Black Lion H & AC. I contacted Ben (owner) of Black Lion after seeing separate deals on Angie's List for a new furnace & a new 50 gallon water heater. Both of those items in my house were needing replacement and I had decided to bite the bullet and find a good company with a good deal for those two items. After answering my initial questions, Ben told me he wanted to come down and see what we would be dealing with and to provide me with the estimate/proposal. He came down, took a look at what was in place and discussed options with me. I decided to go with the deals that had been listed on Angie's List (they had already expired, but he honored them as I had contacted him before they had expired). We scheduled for his team to come about 2 weeks later. His 2 man team arrived promptly and got straight to work at the time scheduled. Originally Ben had estimated about 5 hours, but his team took only about 3.5 hours to finish the install. One of the installers explained a few things to me about the furnace and hot water heater before they left. Overall it turned out great and the area was clean once installed. The install occurred roughly 3 weeks ago and since then everything has been working great. There is a noticeable difference in that I don't get large spikes and valleys in the temperature in the house (I had a 1 stage furnace that was replaced) and I don't have to deal with a furnace that is overly loud. The new furnace is very quiet when on about 95% of the time. Every once in a while it spikes and generates some noise, but nothing very noticeable. I highly recommend Black Lion Heating and Air Conditioning. They do a great job and are a very honest company.

I bought the $59 coupon for a furnace tune-up. After 3 voicemails and a week later, I finally got a call back and was able to schedule the service. The serviceman came and quickly announced that the control board needs to be changed (for $240 + work) and the burners are corroded and need to be changed (for $135 + work) - suddenly the $60 tune-up work metamorphed into a $500 service call. After I found out that the board retails for $100, and after cleaning without effort the so called major corrosion on the burners with a toothbrush, I felt I was taken for a ride, subject to classic bait-and-switch tactic and refused to continue with the service. The serviceman refused to explain what is wrong with the burners and declared in a smartaleck way that if I'm not happy with changing the board, they can replace the whole furnace. I asked him to put back the way he found it, which he did. I asked him if he performed any tune-up and he said No, because the furnace is "dead". A test revealed the furnace is very much "alive" and been working fine since. The company owner called later and offered to "make things right"...by changing the same board and burners for the same $500+ cost. He also explained that 200%+ markup on materials is a normal practice (never mind that installation work was billed separately). In the end he said to request a refund. In short, an unsatisfactory experience, with the technician failing to justify the replacements and high billing, an attempt to bait & switch taking advantage of less technical and/or less informed people.

My furnace reached a point where it was no longer worth being repaired right at a time that I couldn?t afford a problem like replacing a furnace, and didn?t have time to deal with it either. The reality is this can be an expensive proposition, and I wanted a company that would help answer my questions from initial costs to long-term energy costs, but would also help drive the process from beginning to end. My initial experiences with several other companies were not positive. I seemed to get extremes from basically indifference for the project to just a slick sales-focused approach. From the beginning, with Ben from Black Lion, I got answers to my technical questions, along with specifics on short- and long-term costs, and even assistance with financing through programs with the local utility (PUD). Further, instead of me driving where I wanted things to go, Black Lion understood where I wanted to go and did the driving for me. I had a heat pump installed since, after all my questions were answered, it made the most economic sense. My cost savings are enough to cover the monthly payment, given the utility financing. (Of course not everyone will have or qualify for such utility programs. But even if I didn?t qualify, the point is Black Lion helped us try. And note my savings are a bit extreme due to my original furnace was way out-of-date in terms of monthly costs.) The utility financing process required several steps, including pre-inspection of insulation, windows, doors, etc. Black Lion basically drove that process, while including me in each step, and helped get everything scheduled at times that worked for me. The main installation was done in less than one day. The entire crew was courteous and obviously competent. I appreciated that the crew was an actual ?team? of the appropriate size and skills, vs. the minimum required to make the most profit. Everything from the removal of the old furnace, electrical, required ducting improvements, refrigerant lines, etc., all went off without a hitch. If there was any problem, it was me. On the day of installation, I had not finished some landscaping on which the main outside unit was to be installed. The crew did their work in the order required so I could finish. So now I not only have a great heat pump, but the landscaping and drainage fixes I always wanted to do are done. Not to mention, there was another inspection by the utility during installation, which Black Lion scheduled and handled. In short, I could not be happier with Black Lion.

As a new member, I bought a certificate for an annual furnace tune-up from an email offer on Angie's List in late August. With my work hours as a teacher, I waited to schedule a time over the holidays. Ben Ward, one of the owners, arrived on time, even a few minutes early, and went to work cleaning and vacuuming the unit and checking over parts for potential problems. There was a small crack on one of the parts so he applied some silicone to prevent a possible more serious issue in the future. He also replaced a dirty paper filter with the original metal filter, which I had previously been able to easily clean and reinstall. He was finished in about a half hour. Ben is very personable and knowledgeable. I was extremely confident that he knew what he was doing and would not hesitate to call this company again when needed or to schedule future yearly tune-ups. My girlfriend has a big house and a huge furnace in messy garage. It was becomeing fall and time to clean and maintain the furnace. The company she was using kept raising their price. I went on Angie's list, found a coupon and this A-rated company. They were better than advertised. Great Job!

I bought an Angie's List deal for furnace tuneup from Black Lion. I had a very old furnace (30+ years), and Ben Ward did a great job cleaning the burners and rebalancing some components in the furnace to reduce the noise. Ben told me that my furnace might last for a few more years, but it could die at any moment. My budget was tight and Ben gave me a quote for a new furnace that fit my budget. I had received quotes from other installers in the past, but they always suggested the pricey models and used scare tactics (carbon monoxide poisoning, etc.) to urge me to buy. Ben was very friendly and he really listened to my needs. A few days later, I got a new furnace and it had been working great! I highly recommend Black Lion!

It all went very well. I called Ben on a Friday afternoon. He came over and provided an estimate Saturday morning. He was very professional, clearly explaining the various options available in gas furnaces. He answered all my questions, and even recommended a less expensive model that he thought would work best in my situation. Ben and his helper came in Monday morning to remove the old furnace and install the new one. He arrived on time, and did a very nice job installing the new furnace. There were no problems at all, and the cost was exactly as bid. I would definitely use Black Lion again and will recommend Ben if any of my friends or neighbors need HVAC work done.

It was refreshing to deal with a company whose first concern was to solve your problem rather than separate you from your money. I've had the company that installed my furnace out several times to repair my furnace - and they have cost me dearly. I'm confident that the technician from Black Lion has identified the root cause of my furnace problem and finally fixed the problem - at a VERY reasonable price! I will use/recommend this company in the future without reservation.

Experiencing a major leak from an old gas water heater is a royal pain. Cold showers, plus a flooded basement were our pre-Christmas situation this year. First thing I did was check Angie's list, and sure enough under the "Deals and Buy Now" tab there was a special offered by Black Lion Heating and AC for a 50 gal. water heater for $949.00 installed. After checking prices at several other places, this seemed too good to be true. So I called them on Monday morning and Ben agreed to come out that very afternoon to install a new, American-made unit with a six-year warranty. Although the guys arrived later than the agreed-upon time because of traffic and other factors, I was delighted at their work. It was all done in about 90 minutes, and there was not a cent of extra charges. They also attached earthquake straps and removed the old tank as part of the deal. I couldn't be happier, and I plan to use this company again when we buy a new gas furnace early next year.
