Black Lion Heating & Air Conditioning

Never received the estimate. I made a follow-up call leaving a message for Ben. As of 1/24/13 no response. It is difficult to do more than rate as an "F" for failure to respond. Bad & oh so sad.

Technician arrived on time and did the work and left.

This was an Angie's List "Big Deal" for a furnace clean/check. I was able to get an appointment during the holidays, at a convenient time. The technician had an emergency job come up right before mine, but he called to let me know and arrived as promised at the new time (just an hour later). I had a couple of specific issues to have him check out, which he did. He was able to fix one of them right then (no extra charge) and give me advice on the other. He gave the furnace a thorough check, left everything in good order. He was knowledgeable and professional. I would definitely call Black Lion out again.

He showed up on time and was very polite. I spoke to him about my concerns concerning our heating bill and he explained to me why it was so high and what we could do to lower it. He promised to get make a few phone calls and get some facts and email them to us about those options so we will know the actual costs.

A+++++ Ben was very prompt and professional. He quickly found the problem and fixed my furnace the same day I called. I'm VERY happy and grateful he was able to squeeze me in today. It's presently in the 20's outside and I wouldn't want to be without a furnace too long. I will definitely call him again the next time I have an issue and would highly recommend him to anyone needing Heating or AC service and repair.

Our furnace was putting out a code that our furnace was plugged. I arranged to have our furnace cleaned by Black Lion. The technician cleaned the furnace but it still wouldn't work. The tech stayed for 2 hours trying to figure it out- it was an intermittent problem. He diagnosed and let us know what the problem was. A switch was ordered . We have HEAT!

The technician, Jason, that checked our furnace did a great job! He was very friendly, came early, and was helpful with my questions. He was in and out and did the job quickly. I would use this company again.

I think he did the job, I was not there at the time. He didn't clean the exterior of the furnace and therefore nothing seemed as though it had been done. Didn't leave the receipt for the job and was slow in getting the receipt to me. Home inspector noted in a report that it seemed as though the job had not been completed.

Great experience with Black Lion. Ben came out to review job site with me and my general contractor, reviewed options and suggested additional improvements. Work crew arrived on time and kept me informed about plans to disconnect water, heat, etc. and when they would come back on. My remodeling crew spent two days working in the same space, and said the Black Lion crew are some of the best HVAC guys they've encountered. Ben came by mid-project to make sure everything was going okay. The whole experience was smooth and seamless and exceeded expectations on every level.

The estimator was helpful, talked us through a number of options, showed us what we were dealing with. The installer was on time, professional and cleaned up carefully. The recycled what they could of the old furnace as well.

They were very nice, friendly, helpful and arrived on time. They did a good job and put in a thermostat for me, as well. I would use them again.

.On Saturday I called and talked to Ben, I told him our problem which was that the furnace would not stay on and heat continually. We had to keep resetting it, we had called the company who had installed it 18 years prior and they came out and said it was a smart valve which would cost $800.00+ to replace and that it wouldn't guarantee that it would work. We check on the internet for a smart valve and were able to find one for around $200.00 and was hoping that Black Lion could install the part if we purchased it. When I explained the problem to Ben he said it did not sound like a smart valve problem and that he would send out Jason to look at it on Monday. Jason came out on Monday, and was able to determine that it was not the smart valve or the circuit board. Actually 18 years ago when the other company had sold my father in law the furnace they were sold a furnace that was way too big for the house; they were sold a two stage furnace for a 1200 square foot house, and the last time it was serviced the second stage was hooked up and it was overheating. To fix the problem Jason set it up so only one stage of the furnace would work, which in turn should save us money on electricity as well as gas. Jason said our furnace was in perfect condition. Based on what the other company had told us we were trying to scrape together enough money to replace the furnace that didn't need to be replaced after all. The cherry on top with Black Lion Heating is that they did not charge us at all for their Monday visit. My husband plans to take off all of the other company's stickers and replace them with Black Lion Heating information. I highly recommend Black Lion Heating; they are a class act!! Thank you Ben and Jason!!

The service tech that came out was on time and polite. He did not try to upsell us anything. We have been having a problem with our furnace but during the time that he was here he could not identify what the problem was. He told us if we continued to have the problem and we could troubleshoot when the problem was happening it would be cheaper to identify. I appreciated the honesty.

Ben's installation team arrived promptly and worked quickly to dismantle our old furnace and humidifier, even though they encountered some problems with taking it all apart. Soon we had a new furnace! Ben came the next week to pay a personal visit as a follow up to check on things and answer a couple of questions we had. He even gave us some plumbing advice. On Ben's first visit, he spent quite a lot of time cleaning out some water tubing to see if he could get the furnace to stop leaking onto the heat exchangers, and didn't charge us for this service. Overall, we had excellent service and an excellent experience with Black Lion Heating and Air Conditioning.

Not excited about limping along through the rest of the winter with an undependable old gas furnace, I decided to use a ?coupon? special from Black Lion Heating and Air Conditioning featured in the Angie?s List booklet for the purchase of a new one. The offer was for a modulating gas furnace--a new concept to me. Modulating furnaces are multiple-stage units which continually adjust the gas flow and the blower speed to keep the house evenly heated rather than simply going on and off. Ben Ward of Black Lion adequately addressed my questions, fears and apprehensions about the unit, and we had it installed a few days ago. What a difference from our old one-stage furnace! It seems to know what the house needs, and so far, has operated flawlessly. This is a very sophisticated unit, and only time will tell how reliable it will be--but it is light years ahead of the old technology. The installers from Black Lion showed up right on time and had the job done in about three hours, including changing the thermostat, lining the chimney, removing the old furnace and general cleanup. I couldn?t be happier!

.Ben arrived on time on the appointment day to clean and check the furnace. He has gone a little extra mile by showing me the condition of the water heater tank which is next to the furnace. He gave me the estimate of replacing it. If I haven't already scheduled to replace the roof,I might ask him to do it .

It was pretty speedy and the man who did the work was very pleasant and kept the area around the furnace clean. He also suggested that I move some of the things I had stored around the furnace because it was blocking the airflow, which no other firnace company had mentioned. The only thing that kept it from being a perfect experience was that he didn't have the filter for my furnace with him and needed to go buy one. He said he would be back at the end of the day, but he called later that evening saying he would have to come by the next evening to put in the new filter. Another man showed up the next evening and put in the new filter. Both men called me several times to make sure that I knew what was going on and when to expect them.

Service was done on time and at the quoted price.

Overall it went well. He was here for about 1/2hr. He was polite and new what he was doing.

Went well, arrived on time, knowledgeable, and professional. Didn't mind me watching over his shoulder as he disassembled the furnace. The gas furnance is pretty forign to me so I asked a lot of questions too. He was very patient and informative. He looked at it all and gave it a clean bill of health. We talked new Thermostat and when it comes time I will definitely give them a call for a new one.

Our propane furnace failed Tues. evening after business hours. I searched Angie's List that evening for a business to repair the furnace, hopefully the next day. I was impressed with the Black Lion reviews so I called them first thing Wed. morning and spoke with Ben. He said he would be out btw. 2 & 2:30 that day. After alerting me that he was running a little late he arrived and quickly determined that the flame sensor and high limit sensor needed replacing. He also noticed that the garage floor was settling and the furnace was being supported in part by the gas line. He assured me that he would have the furnace functioning properly that day. He called for parts and by 5:30 the furnace was heating the house and resting properly on the support box. We also discussed upgrading the heating system to a heat pump. I was impressed with his knowledge on this topic, especially the economic advantages, and will follow up with him. I highly recommend Black Lion, couldn't be better.

The experience was great! The guy who showed up was very nice (like most of the people we contract with from Angie's list). He came on time, liked dogs (we have two that bark at strangers) and was very professional, but really he was just a very nice and HONEST guy. I would go with Black Lion because the customer service was excellent. Anyway, he did what he was suppose to do, but what made the visit excellent was he explained what he was doing, why he was doing it, and then gave honest answers to my questions (I've done my research so I had a pretty good idea of what the answers should be, but wanted to confirm them with a professional. It wasn't a test, but yeah it was). He also pretty much confirmed everything we already knew about our house (i.e., our water heater is on its last leg and we should consider replacing it. Our home inspector said the same thing.). He also came into the house and provided free information about why we have a wind tunnel sound when the heater goes on. He then gave use suggestions on how to fix it (which I did after he left and it decreased the noise substantially (THANK YOU!!!). When our water heater goes out we?ll be purchasing it from Black Lion Heating & Air Conditioning (unless we find an extremely better deal on Angie?s List, but it?ll have to be more than a couple of bucks). The whole experience was great?no it was excellent!!!

They were punctual and very courteous from the beginning to the end. They made sure that they cleaned up after themselves and walk us through the new water heater instructions. I was very pleased with their service.
