Black Lion Heating & Air Conditioning

Our hot water heater failed on a Friday night -they came out - got us back with hot water that evening. then replaced one of the heaters early the next week. then 2 weeks later before a big heat wave our air conditioner froze up. I had been having problems with that the last year and a previous provider said it was ok. Ben from Black Lion came out again on a Friday night and got us back in business after a careful step by step analysis. He found and fixed the problem. they were very considerate, careful not to dirty carpets or anything and good people. best repair people I ever had.

It went great. The service professional arrived a little early and was a wonderful technician. He serviced the unit on the main house and our mother in law cottage. I will definitely call them for service on the furnace this fall.

They did a really good job. They did a bit of design. They came to our attention from Angie's list. I would give them top marks. We are planning on using them to service our furnace.

Responded to an Angie's list "Deal" for furnace checkup. Response was great, service tech came same day as 1st call. Came very late the next day to instal the new thermostat and the heat went on (still pretty cold at night). When the temperature went up to 90 degrees, the summer fan did not work (it worked with the old thermostat last summer). Called Black Lion Heating June 25 or 26th and they were unable to find an invoice for the thermostat installation. After several calls later that week and on July 1st and 2nd finally reached the service tech who did the installation. During the last week in June and first week in July they promised to call back and have not done so by July 3. We had to call another heating company (Ballard Gas) who came and found the wire for the summer fan was missing and they rewired it. While they were here, they checked the furnace and changed the filter. So,we had to pay $180 more to correct the problem that Black Lion Heating should have done. We have used many companies from Angie's List for the last 4 years and have been very satisfied. This is the first time we have been "burned".

The crew arrived on time and moved like clockwork. They had to remove in pieces our huge old furnace, install the new one, have the electrician do the electrical hook-up, and clean all the ducts in the house. The exit piping was installed neatly and was even painted a close approximation of our house color. They were very neat, polite, and attentive; and got the whole job done by 5pm. I would absolutely recommend the;m!

I took advantage of the Angie's List special - $59 for a service that would cost $150. Our technician, Ben, was courteous, pleasant and professional. I watched him as he opened up the furnace to do the inspection and cleaning. He answered all my questions and made suggestions for proper maintenance and things to look out for.

I've actually used them since then for some other work. They were very punctual.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. I bought one for the air conditioner and one for the furnace. Ben owns the thing and he was really good. He was very responsive. It took two days. He did a very nice job. I was very happy with what he did. He was really a nice guy and he knew what he was doing.

I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal special offer for this service and I love them. The guy who came out was great. He initially gave me a quote to fix our air conditioner which was going to be over $1,000 but when they did the service it was $400 less. They credited the $59 Big Deal price towards the final price. They are professional, ethical, prompt and are nice people. They squeezed me into their schedule and got to the bottom of my problem. I have had other companies here in the past that kept putting Freon in the unit but did not ask me why it needed Freon.

It went well. I just showed them where the furnace was and they did their thing; I wasn't there watching. It was in the basement so I was working upstairs so I couldn't see. One thing I know is that they had to change the filter, but they had to take other things too, which I don't what they were. I would say that maybe, if they don't want to remove their shoes, they should bring their shoe bags or they should take their shoes off because it's mostly carpet and they are difficult to clean. Don't bring muddy shoes. The shoes look fine, like they will not leave a lot of mud or debris on the floor, but there are things that you don't see. And if two or three companies come by and there is a lot of stuff. But I didn't ask them to remove their shoes because I just didn't think it was nice, but if it could be done better, that could be one thing that they could improve.

They did wonderful! It was a dirty, messy job, but they were polite and accommodating!

We got them through an Amazon coupon and they were priced right. The estimator came out and gave us good information, we made a decision, we signed the contract one day and the unit was put in by noon, the next day. They were very quick, very responsive and very professional. They did have quite all the parts they needed, the first day, they came back the second day and did the last little bit. They came when they said they would come and did a nice clean job. They did good work; they were professional in their approach and their appearance and their behavior. I would welcome them back into the house again, at any of my residence to my work. The whole process was smooth and it went very smoothly. They beat everybody’s price by quite a bit. I would ask them for a bid first because I don’t know how their price would compare to others without a coupon.

Their service was very good. They just came out as expected, and did what they were supposed to do. They were on time, and everything else was just as I expected. Their demeanor was great.

Ben was punctual and professional. He was able to identify the problem and give me an estimate of what it would cost to repair the furnace. I asked him for a bid to replace it and within an hour after leaving he had e-mailed me a detailed bid on two different types of Bryant furnaces. I was very pleased with Ben's service and felt no pressure from him to buy something.

I didn't have a problem scheduling with Black Lion Heating & Air Conditioning. It went very well with them. The guy was punctual. He gave recommendations on changing out filters and things like that. We just purchased the house and we ended up with the heating system added. It was a very good experience with them

He seemed to be very professional. Hementioned some potential issue without trying to upsell anything. He also managed to reduced much of the noise of the furnace. We are very satisfied with the service.

Ben was very professional and answered all my questions fully. Gave us a discount for a coupon that was recently offered even though I didn't know about it. He suggested we replace our water heater which we already knew. He also explained how to drain a water heater so we could prolong the life on a new water heater. I would use them again.

I used their service in late November or early December. Their service is pretty good and I'm satisfied with their service. I would recommend them to other people.

Showed up on time. Was very professional and prompt with the service. Checked the A/C electrical system, control unit for proper operation and the operating temperature. Took additional time to thoroughly clean out the unit. Provided advice on options for a new thermostat, humidifying unit and tips on how to keep the outdoor unit protected during the winter months. Technician came on time, actually arrived earlier, but called me first to make sure that was ok. Came in and checked out the furnace, adjusted the gas pressure and gave me advise on the air cleaner that was acting up. I would highly reccomend this comapny and will use them again in the future.

I bought a $2399 deal off of Angie's List for Black Lion to come install a tankless unit, including removal of the existing unit. They came out to take a look, and the gas was already right there on the other side of the wall, so they said it would be a simple job. Ben (owner who came out to give the quote) talked us into an upgrade to the 'much higher end' unit at an increase of $1200. He went into great depth about the so-called "cold water sandwich" and how having the more expensive unit would eliminate that, decrease the delay for hot water, be more efficient, and get us $300 in extra tax credits. It probably is slightly more efficient, and we did get the extra $300 in tax credits, but it most certainly did not prevent the "cold water sandwich" or improve the speed of the hot water. And that $1200 extra he charged? Yes, they had to do installation and everything else on top of that, but I really don't think the installation costs could be much different (if at all) between the two units. He makes it seem cheaper with the $300 tax credit (which you have to file for on your own in your taxes) but then more than makes up for it. Dirty. Ok, so that was annoying, and I should have looked up the prices and everything before booking him, but I didn't. So fine, caveat emptor. But after it was installed we realized the "cold water sandwich" thing which *he* had brought up really was an issue, something we didn't have before with the old tank unit, and I honestly can't imagine that buying the $1200 upgrade helped at all. Reading up on the two units later I think the main difference is capacity--the more expensive unit can put out more hot water at once. Sadly, our water pressure isn't high enough to even take advantage of that. Yes, we never run out of hot water, but you can barely run two showers at a time even though the heater could handle much more. And yes, it's more efficient than the base unit, but with the amount of hot water we use I really don't think it matters. I just felt like it was a bait and switch, a technique that seems to be common with Angie's List deals. So fine, install went well but then we noticed the delay and cold water sandwich issues. I called about that, and they sent a guy out to 'recalibrate the system', which was supposed to fix it. It didn't. Then we started smelling gas in the laundry room so they had to come fix a small leak in the gas. Fine, not a big deal. But I felt like we hadn't gotten any extra value out of the extra $1200 Ben talked us into spending, so I talked to him and he offered to come install a buffer tank system that should take care of all of it. They put it in, and almost no difference. Looking at the plumbing layout and explanations of the buffer tank solution online I think it's not installed correctly, but Ben came out to check on the work his people did and verified it was correct. Still, it doesn't work. (It does work when the system is being stressed, like when Ben was here and running it continually, but it does nothing for the normal scenario where somebody is taking a shower and somebody else turns on a faucet downstairs.) I've been tempted to have another plumber come out to check the setup, but I just don't want to take the time or spend more money on it. To be clear: I'm not mad about the delay or the cold water sandwich--if a tankless has those faults at the cost of endless hot water, so be it. I'm just irritated we were specifically told about those things, and (in my opinion) lied to, especially about the value of spending an extra $1200. Anyway, they were always prompt and responsive and the tankless works fine, but I feel we were mislead. If they hadn't overpromised (and overcharged) this would be an A rating.

I think that the only issue we had was the time we bought the certificate. I think I kind of expected that they would get back to me within a day or so, and I think it took them about three days. Apparently it is a small business. The two guys who run it were out hunting and did not leave any kind of message on their phone indicating that they would not respond for a couple of days. So, that would be my only complaint. I got to the point where I think I was on the third day and I was about ready to call Angie’s List to cancel the purchase just because I have not heard from them, but as far as the service, it was great. They were very friendly. They came out once they called me. Everything was great. It was very quick. I was happy with the response. Once we were able to get into communication, everything went very well.

They arrived on time, did a great job and were very polite and professional. I would use them again and be very confident in referring them to friends.
