Black Lion Heating & Air Conditioning

|To be fair, the furnace IS old (about 14 y.o.) and probably is ready for things to go wrong. Black Lion did mention that the inducer motor would need replacing soon. Ten days later the furnace quit. I was quoted about $650. I went back to my old furnace company and had it replaced for about $450.

I purchased a very old house in March 2013. The furnace is located in the crawl space and was working very well until the beginning of January. It started turning on and immediately turning off, on and off, on and off, sometimes for an hour before it would finally stay on and warm up my house. I found Black Lion on Angie's List and asked them to come service my furnace. They came out a couple of days later, inspected my furnace, and actually spent quite a while trying to make it work better for me. Brad, the tech, called his boss and the two of them tried to troubleshoot my issue as best they could. Brad told me that I really needed to get a new furnace, but, I could choose to have a new control panel installed for about $600. Since I knew the furnace was about 25 years old, and is located in the crawl space, I decided to go ahead and replace it. Since I decided to get a new furnace, I was not charged for the tune-up work that Brad did. They are very busy right now but got me on the schedule for one week later to install my new furnace. Luckily, my old furnace kept my house warm enough for me to live there for another week. When the guys came to install the furnace, they were on time, very friendly, and seemed to really care about doing the best job they could. I have a brand new efficiency furnace now and I can't believe the difference! It's amazing how much better it works! I'm very happy with Black Lion and will call them in the future about installing a tankless water heater for me.

Jason was on time, friendly and professional. Our furnace was shutting off and on during some very cold days and we were concerned it was going to be an expensive fix. Turns out it wasn't. Jason s*** me the problem, fixed it and was on his way. I will definitely use Black Lion again.

Even though the original appointment was missed by me Black Lion rescheduled and never once asked me to cover the technicians time on the missed call.

It went well. They came out and I’m not quite sure what the inspection entailed. I was asking them about a particular issue we were having the furnace. It’s been turning on and off quite a bit. I’m not sure if or what kind of cleaning they did to the unit. They could have been more commutative with me about what they were doing. They did leave me a detailed receipt of the tune-up, but we’re still having the problem with the furnace. The guy who came out was nice, friendly, and personable though.

It turned out really well. The unit is running good. They were very efficient. Scheduling the Big Deal was really easy. They came the day I purchased the Big Deal which was the day after Christmas. They were very responsive.

He was actually there before I was and waiting for me. He spent about a half an hour and came upstairs to tell me all was wel with the furnace and to wash the filter in a couple of weeks. I was ver pleased.

It went good. The big deal cost is all that they charged me. They were good. I would recommend them. I would use them in the future.

I purchased their Big Deal. They contacted me as promised to schedule the appt. They were busy for a couple weeks but that was better than I expected. I asked how much it would be to install a new thermostat that I purchased at the same time and was given an estimate. About an hour before my scheduled time, Ben called to say he was ahead of schedule and asked if it was convenient if he came early. He got right to work and noticed that my 2 year old high efficiency furnace has leaking from the water discharge pipe because the glue had not set properly when installed. He asked who installed it and told me that company would come fix it for free. After he finished servicing the furnace and installing the thermosat for the estimated price, he offered to call his contact at the installing company so he could explain the problem and what they would need to bring to repair it so they would only have to come once to do the job. Then handed me his phone so I could book the appointment. This was my first Big Deal purchase and first referral that I had used since joining Angie's List. Thanks for proving to me that I could find honest and helpful contractors. 2/1/14 UPDATE: This morning my furnace was not working. It was trying to start up but kept shutting back down. Per the sticker installed during the service, Black Lion provides 24 hour emergency service so I called the first number listed which instructed me to call a cell number which was the number I had called so I left a message. Almost 5 hours later I still have not received a call back. I called the installer company after trying them and the on call person was at my house in about an one and a half hour. He determined that the pressure swtich was the problem and needed to be replaced. Per the dated error messages provided by the unit, this was a problem before my maintenance service was preformed. I asked why it was not discovered then and was told usually the problem is because a full maintenance service was not preformed just a dust and clean or the technician didn't have an understanding of how my 2 yo high efficiency furnace worked. Next time I will call the installing company back for any heating serivces I need even if it costs more then others. Either way my first Big Deal does not appear to be a deal and now I'm wondering about Angie's List because the reviews I read before purchasing were good. I've had bad experiences on hiring contractors based on my own research so I joined Angie's List thinking that help would solve the problem. Now I'm not sure how to proceed because I have many home projects that need to be done. What seemed like a great experience at first was not and I feel let down again!

Service was very quick. Technician noted an issue with the inducer, as it is noisy.

He helped to change the settings on the programmable thermostat to better meet our needs.

I bought their Big Deal; the offer was for a furnace or an A/C tune up. It went very well. He was on time, performed the service and actually gave me some additional suggestions too. He was very clean with his work and he did not get in and fist fights or anything; everything was fine.

I found a deal on angies list to have a furnace check/inspection for $79.00. I contacted them and they scheduled me about 1 week and a half out. They came on time, were professional, thorough, and did an overall great job. Our furnace is only 2 years old so there were no issues.

It went pretty well. I had also purchased a big deal for them for $69 for furnace or air conditioning tune-up. After I used the big deal for the tune-up, I used them to install the new furnace. They did pretty well. They were very responsive to giving the quote. They arrived on time and provided good service. I am pretty happy about it. With regard to price, they were pretty competitive. Maybe it could have better. The quality has been good so far.

This is the 2nd time I've used Black Lion's "Big Deal" for furnace cleaning. Scheduling the appointment was done via email, and I was contacted within 24 hours of purchasing the "Deal". Just like the first time, the associate arrived a few minutes before the scheduled time. Friendly and knowledgeable. We talked for a few minutes about any specific concerns I had; he remembered servicing the furnace last year. He ordered new filters to be shipped to me immediately (they're not standard). Definitely recommend Black Lion!

excellent service and questions answered by the technician very slight delay in scheduling but I'm sure it was due to a good value for the service

We needed to replace our gas furnace and decided to have an air conditioner installed too so I looked in Angie's List booklet and called two places for estimates. Black Lion had the better price and was willing to go the extra mile for us, like installing a new vent in the kitchen and replacing some leaky ducting at no extra charge. The rep who gave us the estimate (Kevin) was very nice and informative and wasn't pretentious at all. He had grown up in the industry so he knew what he was talking about. |After we got the estimate, our furnace quit working on the coldest day we had had in years! Black Lion sent a worker out, at no charge, to replace a sensor and it kept working until our installation date of Dec. 11th. They are really a great company. |The workers did a good job, explained workings to us and answered all of our questions. It was actually a fun day. The furnace is terrific and we've ended up with a nice even heat we have never had before. The warranty is good and we get a rebate because it's 96% efficient. Now, we'll see how the air conditioner is next summer! They will come out and get it all ready before the season as part of the whole deal.

They came out to find out why we had no heat diagnosed the issue and returned with a replacement part, but when they found out that a wire had come detached which caused the furnace to shut off. They didn't need to install a new part and I just paid for the service call.

On time, good quality, and good prices. I also had them come out and look at my furnace when we were having trouble with it firing. They helped me with a temporary solution until the part I needed arrived. I've been very happy with their service, the results, and I would recommend them.

It went really well, they were really thorough and they did some cleaning. It’s an older furnace; we’re looking at a furnace replacement in the near future. We would recommend them to friends and family.
