Black Lion Heating & Air Conditioning

After reading all the reviews about their work and professionalism, I scheduled an appointment with them for getting an estimate for the AC installation thinking that it would be a nice experience working with them but at the day of the appointment nobody showed up. They didn't even bother to call me and update me on the status during/before the day of the appointment, got to know that they messed up after calling them myself on the day of appointment after waiting for them for an hour. If this is their attitude at the beginning, god knows what will they do once you sign the contract with them. I was in charge of getting AC installed at couple of houses in my community and some of my friend's place, but going to discommend them everywhere (work and friends).

Great! I would highly recommend Black Lion. The salesperson, Kevin Morris, was a great communicator and really impressed us (particularly in comparison to the 4 other companies that provided bids). The installers arrived on time, cleaned up afterward, and showed a genuine desire to make sure that we were happy with their work. We interviewed 4 other companies. Black Lion offered by far the best value (note: they were NOT the cheapest, but they offered the best combination of cost and quality).

Kevin came out and estimated the job. He was very professional and gave us an excellent price for the work we needed done to get this unit installed and make it work the way we needed it to. We also felt like out of the three bids we got, this was the only one giving us a "real part" of the $1200.00 Sno Co PUD Rebate being offered at the time we were having this done. The work crews that came out were extremely good at their jobs and took the time to do things right and made sure we were satisfied with the job done. Everyone at this company was great to work with including the scheduler that followed through and made sure everything was getting done as quickly as possible. I can't thank these guys enough for good work and the extra's they did to make sure we were satisfied.

These dudes (and gals) are amazing! It was a challenging job because they had to figure out a way to get up on the high roof to do inserts into the chimney for the fireplaces. Ben was great and figured out how to get a huge bucket lift in to do the job. I would totally recommend them. They were also very good with communication and responsiveness. We had Black Lion come out to Sammamish on Monday to install a central AC unit for us. They were on time and all of the folks that showed up at the beginning of the day were friendly and happy to answer any questions. We had Renzo and Bruno do the install work, and we were very impressed with how courteous they were through every step of the process. All of the work area looks clean, well done and sealed a lot better than it was prior to them starting. At this point I would certainly recommend them to anyone needing HVAC work done.

They checked and serviced the furnace that was making a whistling noise and advised us that not much was left of the life of the furnace. The rep gave us some options and explained everything patiently and professionally.

Very competent serviceman. Spent time cleaning the furnace, checking the components, replacing the filter and igniter. Very informative and pleasant.

The repair man came did the furnace maintenance but did not clean the filters. After he was gone I checked the filters they were still dirty. After couple of calls they schedule to have someone come out and clean the filters.

The technician initially sent was unable to fully troubleshoot the problem on the 25 year old furnace. He called in a more experienced technician who was able to correctly make the diagnosis. The problem was ultimately resolved, but it took several hours. I believe that there was more troubleshooting effort than should have been required, some of which added to the already very high cost for the new module. When I first made contact and described the problem over the phone I provided the make and model of the furnace. I believe that the company should have sent a technician familiar with that model, or at least equipped with the appropriate service manuals. Overall, however, the work was eventually done well and both technicians were very thorough and professional.

Phil and his assistant Bruno did a great job and installed the wall unit exactly where I wanted it. Clean install inside and out. The sales rep Kevin was also great. Phil showed me the vacuum gauge to show that he was getting good vacuum (no leaks). I like it when the installer is proud of his work. Elec (L&I) has passed inspection. Awaiting city mechanical inspection. Listed cost does not include sales taxes and $200 in permit fees.

Did an awesome job. I purchased a warranty service plan for future maintenance and repairs.

Things went as expected. I have an older electric furnace that I've been told to run until it dies. The tech didn't try to up-sell me which is always appreciated.

The technician was very pleasant and freely offered advice about maintaining my furnace. However, before he left, he forgot to remove a jumper wire he had used to bypass my thermostat so my furnace would not stop running. I called the office and he promptly returned to solve the problem. This was not a big issue with me and certainly no reason to avoid doing business with this company. I am satisfied with the service I received.

The service was great and the gentleman was on time and professional. The other thing I was impressed with another company came in and said that my motor was going out. He told me that I need to switch it out right away and or any time I turn on my thermostat I should say my prayers. This gentleman said that nothing was wrong and that it is kicking on fine and it doesn?t need to be replaced and there is nothing that is wrong with it. That was a big win and a big worry off me. The only thing that I think that I would say is concerning as that I am disable that and I have an air filter that you can pull out and rinse, he never took it out and rinsed it. All the other things were really good.

It went well. However, be sure to be clear about what kind of furnace you have so they can send the right person the first time. I sent a pic to be on the safe side (had no clue what kind it was), but it was of no help. I think it's best that you communicate over the phone. Otherwise, both guys were courteous, professional and very knowledgeable.

The technician was very knowledgable and willing to answer all my questions. He informed me on how many times a year I should do a self check of the furnace and how to clean the filter. I am new to owning a house and so what I learned was all new to me.

This is a big deal purchase. It was fine. There were no complications with the scheduling. They were easy to work with. It was just a checkup so I think the price was reasonable.

Good, arrived on time. Cleaned and gave a good analysis.

This is my second time using Black Lion. As always, they've done a good job.

Kyle, Jack and Renzo did an amazing job. On Xmas someone crashed into our house and burst the gas line from the meter to our house. Kyle understood the circumstances and quickly adjusted their schedule to accommodate an emergency repair. He took care of calling the city inspector and Puget sound energy too coordinate a same day inspection and get the gas back up and running.

I got three quotes for a new water heater and furnace and Black Lion beat all of the others. They had good reviews so I ended up using them. The job itself was pretty straightforward, the biggest obstacle being an awkward spot for my air filter. As part of my quote, I made sure that it was specified that if they can't get a 4" filter to work that they would have to install something that fits a 1" filter. The original install had a 4" filter box which did not work. The installer then told me I would have to live with a 1" filter inside a 4" box laying diagonal. Note that there was tons of room for air to bypass the filter. This was unacceptable. I settled on leaving it as is since it was late and having them come back to do the job right. I spoke to the salesman and he tried to sell me on some jimmy rigged solution that I said I did not want. Another tech came back a week later and put some rails in the 4" box and told my wife it was complete. When I got home and looked at it, the filter was laying side ways next to the furnace fan. There was no support at all. It was not secured inside the box and looked like an amateur did it. Also, the tech just silver taped over a bunch of large gaps between the filter box and furnace. He did not seal them properly. I had to complain and a working, although not great, solution was installed. Everything works now. Also I specified how I wanted the thermostat wired to the installers since it was a 2 stage furnace and I had a good thermostat. They told me they did this, but after the fact I found three jumpers out of place and the second stage wire not landed (or even stripped). Without this change, the furnace ran OK, but would take an extra 15 minutes to start the second stage in the mornings or when really cold vs my thermostat saying it should just start right away. Finally, we had a lot of clean up after they left. They made a big mess and got water everywhere in my finished basement. We had rusty water stains on the tiles near the water heater from the old water heater, dirt everywhere, and mud all over the carpet to the door they used. Everything works OK right now, but you will have to babysit them if you use them to make sure you get what you asked for. Get EVERYTHING in writing on the quote and don't let them try to talk you into the easy solution because theirs did not work.

It may not sound like much, but our furnace is a down-draft in the attic, accessible only through a small door in the ceiling of our extra bath (which has a 10' ceiling. Not the most accessible location. They were quick, efficient, and professional.

Came on time. Did all inspection and regular cleaning. Everything as it should be. The only thing I don't like is he did not bring their own service schedule sticker. Upon my request, he wrote the service date on the existing sticker which is from another previous company.

My heat took a hike on Saturday night. Sunday was survivable with the fireplace. On Monday, I caved and called the cavalry. Black Lion was here within 3 hours, figured out that my antique thermostat--and NOT the furnace--had died, and replaced the 'stat and tuned the furnace before my toes froze. As always, the work was thorough, professional, and I was kept informed every step of the way. I appreciate the responsiveness and efficiency of this company, and will continue to depend on them to keep the HVAC stuff humming.

Provider showed up near the end of the appointment window. He was friendly and I showed him to the furnace in the garage. He promptly began work. Within 5 minutes of beginning work, he told me that he had to stop because of a cracked heat exchanger. He further explained that because of the cracked heat exchanger he is unable to perform additional work, that was required to turn off my gas, and that he recommended replacement ASAP of a new furnace. - He did not actually perform the service, nor even the replacement filter as mentioned in the deal - I did not receive a refund for the service - The cost of the service was not credited toward a quote for any follow-on work - The stopping of work for this (or other) condition(s) was not mentioned at all in "The Fine Print" in the deal that I purchased (I just checked to make sure). If that would have been the extent of it, I may not have as much of a negative review, but my negative experience is highlighted by the following facts. 1) He "found" the crack within 5 minutes of beginning work. When I asked if I could see it, he became somewhat awkward with me. I moved around to get a better angle. Before shining the flashlight into the unit, he put the screwdriver into the unit as to point to the crack. I noticed that he scratched the inside of the unit rather distinctively as he was pointing. He then used the flashlight to light up the inside of the unit. This is when he claimed that the newly formed scratch on the inside of the unit was the crack in the heat exchanger that he was speaking of. 2) Immediately after this viewing, it took no more than a few minutes for him to conveniently pull out a replacement unit catalogue and begin generating a quote based on my unit. 3) During the "viewing" of the crack and the generation of the quote, he began telling me stories of people that have died from Carbon Monoxide (or Carbon Dioxide - I can't remember which) poisoning. He told a few localized stories, before capping off the descriptions with a family in New York that supposedly had other family members in and all 10 of them died in their sleep. He recommended that my family switch to fireplace heat ASAP or risk the danger of the same thing happening to us. 4) After e-mailing me the quote promptly, he told me that one of their sales person's would be contacting me the next day to make arrangements for the sale and installation of the replacement furnace. The sales person to date has never called back. In summary, it seemed that he was at my house only 15-20 minutes total. He did not perform the tune-up. I believe that I observed him scratching the inside of the unit when I asked to see the crack. He then told me horror stories of people dying, while up-selling me on a replacement unit. This seems to me (in my opinion) that it was more of me purchasing the opportunity to be scammed, rather than actually receiving anything reasonably close to what I paid for. While I do understand that legitimate heat exchanger cracks are something to address seriously, the circumstances, timing, and manner at which this service call took place was highly suspicious.
