Black Lion Heating & Air Conditioning

Everything went great from start to finish. After meeting with their estimator and owner, Ben, it was determined that running ductwork to get to the second story would be too invasive inside the house so we opted for ductless units in both upstairs bedrooms. They are connected into the same system so work together and ended up being a lifesaver this summer as they blast cool air and dehumidify with incredible efficiency. Total work took 2 weeks from start to finish. The installers were a team of three really great guys that were professional and hard working. Our energy bills are down and our house no longer has pockets of irregular temperature. We are happy with the outcome and recommend Black Lion!

I have to use them again because they're the ones who installed it.

Great.. They did a great job in tuning up our AC as an Angies list offer. Then our painters covered up the unit which lead to a fault. They came back out (for a fee) and got it working right away. We really appreciated them in the heat of the summer. We will use them again.

in and out in 20 minutes. deal should mention that it comes with a standard one inch filter. I have a four inch filter and that's an extra.

We just got an estimate from them. They were efficient and timely. We just decided to go with Brennan Heating as the prices were similar, and we already have a furnace from Brennan. Seems like they would have done a good job though.

Had a great experience from start to finish. Cody was the estimator and he was really helpful at explaining pros and cons of the available systems (replacing furnace and adding a/c), as well as what would be entailed in the installation. He was also super-responsive on email as I peppered him with questions (some generated by getting other estimates). We ended up choosing Black Lion because they were able to get us a great manufacturer rebate that made their system much cheaper than comparable estimates, plus we liked their extended 10-year labor warranty (if you buy the maintenance plan). We got a super-quiet and -efficient heat pump system and added a second-floor return. Then we were able to get on the schedule within a week! Sean, Adam and Raj were our installers and they were awesome. They put up with my ignorant homeowner questions and my two little boys' occasionally intrusive participation. ;) Sean even brought the boys a black lion stuffed animal! No job ever goes exactly as planned and this was no exception, but they agreed with Cody's evaluation of our home layout (which is not ideal for a/c, tbh) and were able to work through all the quirks of a 30-year-old home. They were cheerful and responsive, they showed up on time, and they cleaned up after themselves. Thanks!

They got the install done cleanly and in a single day. Very happy with the work, and wishing I had it done years ago!

The tech was very professional and good at his job. The tech suggested it would be more cost effective to replace my 21 year old heater. It is in poor condition and the parts would cost almost as much as a new furnace. He also noticed and warned me about replacing my water heater which is rusting, dripping and has a budge.

Tech showed up and inspected my whole system. Things went great and he told me that there was no issues.

We had A/C installed a couple of days ago by Black Lion HVAC and the experience was impressed! The crew - Sal, Renzo and Emilio demonstrated their professionals in the installation. So did the electrician crew led by Brian. They were kind, considerate, and the most important - pleasant with smiles all the time. A happy crew with an excellent job definitely ends up with a happy customer. I'm so glad to have these folks on site. Their work was very organized and the finished job looks clean and great. The weather for now is still cool and we are glad to be ready. Highly recommend the crew and Black Lion HVAC.

Matched lowest competing bid. They were quick to offer an estimate. After installation we ran into a couple of issues and they were very quick to respond and correct them to our full satisfaction.

They were great from start to finish. I received a quote for an AC unit and they were willing to meet a competitors price. They communicated with we me several times to confirm install date and arrived on time. Very professional crew. This an all day job and involves an electrician and 2 Hvac installers. When they started up the unit at the end of the day, it was very noisy and they were not happy with the way it sounded. they thought they needed to replace the motor. The next day, a technician showed up to replace the motor, which did not solve the problem. They did not hesitate to order a replacement unit because this one appeared to be defective. The very next day they sent a crew over to install the new unit. It took about 2 hours to replace, and the new one was nice and quiet. This crew of 2 guys had already worked almost a full day and worked late on a Friday to get my AC installed in time for a hot weekend. Black Lion was great to work with and I highly recommend them. I was very pleased that they were able to replace the defective unit so quickly and without any hassle. I love my new AC!

I was planning on going with them to install a new air conditioner and furnace replacement, but I decided against it. This is due to what I consider shady behavior when they are sending over their quotes. I originally got quoted for several different options. When I responded that I wanted to go with a specific option, but that I wanted to know if there were any additional discounts, I received a response with a couple of extra discounts added to my quote. On closer inspection, they had raised the base price of the quote prior to the discount, so it was actually not really a discount. When I questioned them about it, they said that the reason why the quote increased was because of a new thermostat that was required. (The quote increased by over $600! That is one expensive thermostat!) The thermostat was NOT mentioned at all in the new quote. Black Lion then sent me a revised quote that matched my original base quote, but the discount was removed. I had to ask why this was the case, and they said it was because I didn't get the thermostat. (Why wasn't this mentioned prior?) There is no transparency at all to how the pricing works. You have to watch your quotes or they will easily overcharge you. The person that gave me a quote also told me that Carrier made mediocre equipment and that Bryant was significantly more high end. They are owned by the same company and they are basically the same equipment especially when you compare specific models together. I don't understand this at all. I'm no HVAC person. I don't really know all the intricacies of the business or the equipment or any of that. However, I do know basic math and something definitely doesn't add up.

They were very prompt with responding to both my Angie's List messages and phone calls. Although it wasn't urgent, they came out the next day and did a great job on my boiler. The tech even stayed around long enough to inform me of the boiler life and how much a new install would cost and what it would entail. Highly recommended!

The pricing was good. Basically when they installed the fireplace, there were some problems with it right-of-the-bat that I contacted them within 24 hours and it was a battle for me to get everything fixed. It was like back-and-forth. It really seemed like their office staff kept on dropping the ball so I had to keep on following-up. They would say that they would check on it. They never followed back. A month later, I would follow-up and ask what was going on. They would say okay and then, they would come out and fix one thing, but I had a list of three or four things that were wrong. It was not until they had to come back out three or four times to get all those three or four things fixed. So, it got frustrating by the end.

They have been good. They came on a holiday and then, we have had them come back a couple of times for some stuff.

The Guy that came was Steve. He was there 15 minutes early. He did a great job and was super professional. Would use this company and recommend them to anyone. We were in a time crunch and called them and they were there the same day. Amazing service.

We had Black Lion Install a high efficiency gas furnace last year and were very satisfied with their work. When we were looking at installing an air conditioner this year we again went with Black Lion. Their prices are honest and fair. Having bid out both years, we determined that Black Lion was more honest and consistent with their estimates. Other companies we sought bids from supposedly had 20 percent sales but greatly increased their initial costs before the discounts were applied. The final bids were in line with what Black Lion offered without any sale. The cost for changing out an electric furnace to a high efficient gas furnace last year and installing the air conditioner with new thermostat this year was 11,000. Black Lion staff is punctual, efficient, professional and does great work.

These guys were awesome. Things started as a simple project - knock down a wall and move the radiant heat wall units to a different wall. Approved the estimate, work crew showed up on time, started to peek behind the wall and discovered that the tubing I had was defective and has been yanked from the market for excessive failures (Kitec - also a class action lawsuit). They said they didn't want to touch it in fear of making it worse, but walked around the house and gave me an idea of what it would take to replace. Called around to confirm their assessment - every HVAC person said the tubing was crap and they only did replacements. Had Black Lion give me a new estimate, which was 1/2 of anyone else (one guy quoted me $20K sight unseen and said anyone who came in cheaper had no idea what they were doing - suffice to say I did not choose them). The crew was fantastic, especially as the project became one of those nightmare projects. Every time they opened a wall or ceiling, they found another unexpected scenario that they could never have anticipated. Tubing snaked a different way than they had anticipated. The house construction made certain approaches more difficult or destructive. At every step they stopped and explained the problem and potential options. I never felt pressured for any solution, and they took my questions and suggestions seriously. Every conversation was one of objective options and trade-offs, but with no pressure. As the project started to grow, I contacted their office and asked how the unexpected additional work would affect their quote. Their response: The quote is the quote. If time/labor goes over, that's on us and the price stays the same. What an awesome approach, so much different than many other contracting companies. At every step they also took extraordinary care to make sure our belongings remained undamaged. They carefully kept every piece of ceiling, support, screw, nail, everything so they could put it back later exactly the same. When the project reached a point where I was facing a complete bathroom remodel in order to yank our some hard to reach tubing (the bathroom had been remodeled around the unit), we stopped and re-considered and they suggested just removing the tubing and then install ductless units. This way I didn't have to worry about replacement in hard-to-reach areas (this was on Day 2). Either way they would continue to yank out the defective tubing, and in the meantime I talked with their estimator Kevin about options. When I had to leave for an appointment and said I wouldn't be free until 10pm, Kevin directed me to Ben, the owner, who talked with me for an hour late at night explaining the various equipment options, how it would affect the project and my house, everything. Never once did he pressure me to add on to the job - he said they would do it either way, no problem. I decided to switch to the ductless units and all they charged me for was the equipment cost - labor stayed the same even though the project is going an extra day. Overall, the service at their head office and their work crew was phenomenal. Communication was excellent, and thoughtfulness and consideration of the work crew was great. They also warranty both equipment and labor (labor for 1 year, but if I continue annual maintenance with them they'll warranty labor up to 12 years - no commitment). Hopefully I'll never need HVAC work again but if I do this will be the only company I'll call.
