We were told we would have to be out of the house for a minimum of two full weeks to allow for the work to be done and for some of the toxicity to recede so the place was habitable. The work was done just as promised and in fact was finished a couple of days early. The floors look beautiful, and as you can see, I am giving the company As across the board. I would use them again. That said, I do have a couple of caveats. The person in charge of the job was really top notch, and as long as The foreman had his eye on things, all was great. However, we came to the house one day early in the job to pick something up, and found that the workers had left for the day and two of the slider doors had been left open. Apparently, the foreman also had to take a couple of days off toward the end of the work. We found our new oak floor duct vents were not installed or even unstuck from newspaper where they had been finished. There were also a few bright white discolored spots near the edges of the floor. Once called to the company’s attention, these things were very promptly corrected, hence my good rating. There is a distinct color difference between these newly finished floors and areas of the house done by a different company, a few years ago (see photo). Perhaps this was an impossible challenge, but we had hoped the match would be a bit closer, where the areas abut. No promises were made by the company, to be fair.
Description of Work: Disgusting old wall to wall carpet removed in 3 bedrooms, two hallways, family room and entry closet. Oak flooring underneath refinished and new hardwood put in where it had not existed or where previous house changes had destroyed it. The floors were covered with two coats of Swedish finish.

Description of Work: Sanded and refinished original wood floors beautifully. Took a floor damaged by heavy dog use (almost black from wear) and carefully removed all baseboards, sanded entire first floor and refinished. A bit expensive, but worth the money. I would certainly use them again if needed.

It went very well. This is the 4th time we have hired advanced flooring. We've previously done the following work: - full house floor refinishing - small area repairs - full house floor buffing and touch up coat They have always done fine work, carefully blending in any repairs to match the wood in our house. This is no small task with over 100 year old vertical grain wood floors. They asked us about small details and ensured we were happy with the results. Everything was on schedule and we were awed with how beautiful our floors (red oak on main floor and fir upper floor) looked freshly redone. We will continue to use them for all of our flooring needs.
Description of Work: Full house refinishing of hardwood floors. Full sand down , board replacements in small areas, and 4 coats of water based finish.

My experience of getting a quote from them was very well. The person who came was very professional. He came with a monogrammed shirt. He was the owner of the company. He was here to give me the quote personally and also give me a portfolio. The quote was professionally done. I am getting the work done by another company, so I will not be using them.

I had to cancel two appointments I had made for someone to come out and give me an estimate on hardwood flooring. Therefore, i did not experience first-hand their customer care, etc. The second time I called to cancel due to illness, I got the answering machine and left a message, but someone showed up anyway at the appointed time as I was on my way out to see the doctor. I explained I had canceled and had a doctor's appointment. He was nice and said he understood. In conclusion, I don't know anything about their pricing or their work other than what I read on Angie's List..
Description of Work: I called to inquire about hardwood flooring. I got sick with bronchitis and had to cancel two appointments I had made. So I can not comment on the quality of their work, etc.

They did a very fine job. During the time we had a pipe burst in the wall that had nothing to do with them but they had to come and tear out part of the flooring they had put in. They were very good at the repair work. The price was at the high end.
Description of Work: We used Advanced Floor Design to rip our existing prefinished hardwood and put down new oak floors and they refinished them onsite.

These guys are fantastic. Everytime they've done work for us they've paid attention to every detail and the work has turned out fantastic. The contractor who remodeled our house as a result of a burst pipe usually works with a different wood floor company, but we asked him to work with Advanced Floor Design instead. They're cheaper than the company he normally works with, and our new wood floors turned out fantastic, once again. Our contractor said that he's going to start working with them from now on. I would definitely use their services again, and have already recommended them to friends and neighbours.
Description of Work: We've used Advanced Floor Design's services three times now. Four years ago, when we moved into our house, they replaced downstairs carpet with maple hardwoods to match existing wood in entrance hallway. A couple of years ago, a handymen we hired drilled a hole on the hardwood floor by mistake, and they fixed it. Recently, we had a burst pipe in the downstairs of our house and they installed new hardwoods throughout.

Excellent After visiting the company's offices and meeting the owner, we set up a date for an inspection of the proposed work. The owner arrived on time, provided help for decisions regarding the complete scope of the work (e.g. extent of removals, misc details); provided a written estimate in a timely fashion; and was patient with us when other contractors were not so timely in providing competive bids. Once we had made our decision to use Advanced Flooring Design, Inc., the meeting to select final product colors and make the final decisons on scope was quick and clear. During that meeting, contract language, insurance requirements, lien and legal issues regarding the agreement were reviewed. Advanced Floorings comptroller was helpfull in resolving incidental issues we had with their Terms & Condiitons. We left with confidence we had made the correct decision and that there was no question as to what was going to take place. When the materials arrived we were contacted by the Owner, arrangements for access to our house made. We had no issues with security or entry. The work was completed ontime and in a very professional manner. We enjoy the new flooring and the craftmanship that Advanced Floor Design workmen put into the project, including transitions to the exiisting surfaces. There were no issues with collateral damages or cleanliness. Temporary dust barriers were installed and removed preventing migration of construction dust during the work. We would highly recommend Advance Foor Design, Inc. to anyone contemplating hardwood flooring in their home.
Description of Work: The scope of work was to remove existing carpet and hardwood flooring in the kitchen, family room, office, and halls throughout the house and replace those rooms with Brazillian Cherry hardwood flooring. Transitions between existing carpet, tile, and marble flooring was included. The flooring we selected was prefinished. Advanced also offereded a finish in place product.

Very good experience overall. I got 3 quotes from different companies and these guys came in lowest although one other was nearly the same. We chose them over the other due to the quality of the Teragren product and the repuation of the installers on Angie's List. Steve Walsh (owner) showed up promptly to take measurements and show samples of the flooring. The work was scheduled for 2 weeks after deposit was made and had several communications with the office to confirm and discuss the job prior to installation. The crew showed up on time and completed the demolition within 2.5 work days while the flooring acclimated over the weekend. We were a bit surprised to find that our sub-floor was in bad shape but the team gave us a few options with differenct cost structures. We chose to replace with new plywood which was the best quality option but added ~15% to the final cost. This prolonged the job by only a day or so and the installation phase was completed within the 5 days originally promised. Quality of work was high, nice detail work and tight seams between tongue and groove floor slats, picture framing around fireplace, etc. The crew went above and beyond in many respects (e.g. climbed under the house to disconnect water to the refrigerator before moving). Great communication with the office throughout and punctual arrivals by the crew. If there was ever a delay for some reason, I always rcvd a call in advance. I only had two issues of concern with the job. First, the vent cover options were not discussed at the outset. Consequently, we had to go with self-rimming covers since the floors were already installed by the time that was worked out. We would have chosen flush mounted covers (which require some custom work around the sub-flooring) had we been aware of that in the beginning. With that said, the vent covers that we did get are perfectly matched to the floor color and look really nice. The second issue was the cleanup after the job mostly from dust accumulation. We were told that the kitchen would be covered with plastic before demo but that never happened. The dust came up fairly easily though. Some residual glue was also present on the flooring, but Steve came in himself to clean that up promptly when brought to his attention. Aside from these minor complaints, these guys did a great job. The floors look beautiful and the Teragren product is indestructible.
Description of Work: Installation of Teragren woven strand bamboo flooring through main part of the house (1000 sq ft). Work included removal of existing flooring (mostly carpet but 1/3 was existing oak floor and small area of tile), and installation of new plywood subfloor.

We weren’t around when they did the work. So, there was nobody to supervise them. We wanted to get a company that was very trustworthy. They have a website that shows the floors that they’ve lain in the past that are just amazing and intricate. We reasoned that if they could do such intricate and high end floor jobs, then we could trust them with our plain floor job. They suggested that we remove the sub floor because it was particle board. They said that we’d have a stronger floor that way. We felt that was true, because we could feel the floor was squishy under the carpet in some places. So, we had them replace the sub floor with plywood. They nailed down a woven bamboo floor. We are very happy with the way it looks. They did an excellent job of taking the trim up and putting it back down. You can’t tell anything was done. It looks like it has always been there. They were pricy, but the job done by them was worth the price. They weren’t the least expensive option; we had received estimates from others as well. Their professionalism and their products, were however, great. So, we didn’t mind paying a little bit more. The floor is holding up very well now. We are doing the floors in stages and they’ve been very helpful in terms of coming over and giving us estimates for every next section of the house. We are very happy with them. The job cost us just what they said it would; it was done when they said it would be done. If you hire them and you are going to butt up against carpets that are already down, we would suggest using a carpet installer to make the carpet edge. The people from Advanced Floor Design basically just folded the carpet edge over and nailed it down; it doesn’t look beautiful. They laid a metal strip over it, which we really didn’t like. Our realtor wanted that, but we didn’t. So, if we have them do another section of the house, we will get in touch with a carpet dealer in order to do the carpet edge, next to the newly laid bamboo floor.
Description of Work: We got our bedroom floor redone by Advanced Floor Design. They laid a bamboo floor after removing the carpets, 3 months ago.

Prompt response for an estimate. Worked scheduled for the following week. The installer/repairer was very courteous. He built a tent over the work area to control dust. He removed a baseboard to get access to the damaged floor. The damaged flooring was then removed. The replacement floor pieces installed and then the baseboard. A very good result. The only downside was that the estimate did not disclose that travel time would be included, in this case 45 minutes at $75/hour. Not a big deal but a bit of a surprise.

The transition piece they found was not correct. It beveled down where the steps and trim met. I contacted the owner, and they subtracted the $400. Even though I'm happy with the resolution, I still have to get that piece fixed. I would not hire the company again, but I would hire Eric, the man who did the work, again.
Description of Work: Advanced Floor layed flooring I had previously purchased. They were responsible for laying the floor, and we were responsible for removing the carpet. They did a good job putting the floor down, but they did not do it within the scheduled time. They also had to put in extra transition piece that hadn't been planned for. This transition piece ended up costing $400.

THE CUSTOMER CONTACTED US TO INSTALL A FLOATING FLOOR PRODUCT SHE HAD PURCHASED. WHERE THIS PRODUCT MEETS AREAS OTHER THAN WALLS (STAIR RISERS, TILE, ETC.) A TRIM PIECE IS REQUIRED. WE DID OUR BEST TO LOCATE MATCHING TRANSITION MATERIAL, THE CHARGE TO GO GET THE TRANSITION MATERIAL, PURCHASE IT, & INSTALL WAS $400 WHICH WAS EVENTUALLY REFUNDED TO THE CUSTOMER. WE ALSO WERE DELAYED BY A POWER OUTAGE AT THE JOB SITE. THE JOB WAS COMPLETED IN ONLY 1 DAY OVER THE ORIGINAL SCHEDULE.

Their workers were on-time, very professional, and friendly. All showed great pride in their craft, and their attention to detail was amazing. Sean (the job foreman) answered all of our questions, kept us up to date with daily reports, and went out of his way to make sure we were happy with the job. He even had a couple of ideas that really made our floors unique! We HIGHLY recommend Advanced Floors. We've never had such a pleasant contractor experience!

I got 4 quotes from this job, all from "A" rated Angie's List companies. This one doubled the 2nd highest quote and tripled the quote of the company that got the job. The floor could be replaced for this price. Outrageous! If you have money to burn, go for it.

This company lived up to its reputation as given on Angie's List. Steve arrived promptly to give me an estimate, and once we were given approval by the insurance company, his crew completed the work in the time frame given. The floor is better than before. The entire crew from the receptionist, the repairman, the sanders and finishers, and Steve were pleasant, courteous and professional.

MID-PRICED OUT OF THE THREE QUOTES RECEIVED, HOWEVER, WORTH EVERY DOLLAR. VERY PROMPT AND PROFESSIONAL. COMPANY EMPLOYEES DOING THE WORK WERE VERY HAPPY TO WORK FOR STEVE THE OWNER (NO SUBS). I WAS ALWAYS ABLE TO CONTACT THE COMPANY WITH QUESTIONS. THREE DIFFERENT EMPLOYEES DID THE WORK, ONE FOR EACH PHASE. DIFFERENT SHADES OF STAIN WERE DIRECTLY APPLIED TO THE FLOOR TO HELP PICK THE RIGHT COLOR GIVEN THE ACTUAL LIGHTING CONDITIONS OF THE ROOM. PREP WORK WAS VERY THOROUGH TO CONTAIN VERY FINE DUST FROM SANDING. OTHERS WHO HAVE SEEN THE FINISHED FLOOR HAVE DECIDED TO USE THIS COMPANY FOR THEIR PROJECTS.
Description of Work: INSTALL DINING AND FAMILY ROOM RED OAK FLOOR. LACE INTO EXISTING FOYER/BATHROOM/KITCHEN. SAND, FILL AND (RE)FINISH ENTIRE HARDWOOD FLOOR. STAIN AND APPLY 3 COATS OF GLITSA SWEDISH FINISH. WE PICKED OUT INSET HEAT REGISTERS, WHICH WERE SANDED AND FINISHED WITH THE FLOOR (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED).
