Scott did a fantastic job replacing our old, worn out deck covering and deck rail. It's been about seven years and we're still happy and would recommend his work. He showed up on time, the project came in on budget and everything went smoothly. The project made a huge improvement to our home.
Description of Work: Replaced our wooden deck railing with glass/aluminum rail system and replaced old, worn vinyl deck covering with Duradeck.

The vendor returned my first call (which I missed), but did not return subsequent calls. We gave up and had the work done by another company.

Scott Dennis looked over the project and gave us a competitive bid. Shortly after beginning work, we discussed future improvements, and agreed on a design change which eliminated a complicated drainage system, required far fewer hours of labor, and fewer materials. When Scott arrived months later to settle up, he demanded thousands more than originally agreed to, even though he spent much less in time and materials. He used nails which were way too long, and protruded through the deck and into the carport below. The deck surface turned out to stain easily ( from furniture sitting on it) and is difficult to clean, even with detergent and power washer.
Description of Work: Remove old decking, replace with new weatherproof product.

Late this summer, I noticed a small tear in the vinyl deck surface on our back yard deck. I emailed the Waterproof Deck Company (Scott Dennis) and asked for advice on repairing it, to maintain the waterproofness of the deck surface. This company was the installer of the vinyl surface. Scott indicated that it would best to have him come out and do the repairs. He indicated that he'd get back to me soon and schedule a time to come out. He called me a few days later to schedule the time to come out and make the repair. He showed up at the agreed upon time and made the repair.

I had Duradeck installed by another company and was terribly unhappy with the finished product; the seams of the plywood substrate were and quot;telegraphingand quot; through the Duradeck and should have been puttied and sanded smooth before the vinyl was applied; and the welded seams of the Duradeck were poorly placed from an aesthetic standpoint, with the added insult that one prominent seam wasn't even straight. I was sick with disappointment and trying to figure out what options existed for a correction that I would be satisfied with. The same day, I contacted Waterproof Deck Co hoping to ask another certified installer about possible solutions and Scott answered the phone though it was 7:30pm. He listened to my description of the problem and offered his opinion on the possible solutions available to me. He was fair with me and with the installer who had done the work in advising me that typically, he would have placed the seams as I had described their location. When I explained that the seam could have been run directly under a railing rather than in the unsightly place that it was run, he said that he provides the customer with a layout of the proposed seams so that they can know what to expect and can make changes to his proposed layout. Even though he knew that I was contacting him for information that would not lead to a job for him, Scott was helpful, professional, courteous, and gave me extensive information on what options exist that could be done to improve my satisfaction with the job and contractor that I hired. I guess there is still a possibility to fix what I am dissatisfied with, but I am sorry that I didn't hire Scott and Waterproof Deck Co in the first place; it seems that he takes steps in the right order to make sure that this kind of miscommunication and unhappy ending don't ever have to happen.
Description of Work: I consulted with Scott after having an unsatisfactory experience with another installer of Duradeck. No services were actually performed.

We were looking for someone to fix our Gaco Deck. I contacted Scott and he replied immediately with a date when he could come out and have a look. When he came over, he told me very honestly, that his company might not be the right choice and that we should contact someone who does Gaco Decks. He told me, my decks don't really look that bad and someone could just give another coat of Gaco and they are great again. I appreciate Scott's honesty and not trying to convince me to buy his product. He even gave me the number of someone who can help me. What a great person!

The project went well. Work was performed as promised in the bid. No complaints whatsoever.
Description of Work: I chose Waterproof Deck Company based on his excellent reviews on Angie's List and the competitive bid he provided. Of the 4 bids I received, two came in at more than twice the price, and the comparable bid was on a lower quality of decking material. We needed our approximately 10 x 12 foot deck replaced before a shake roof replacement could be installed. Scott was prompt in coming out and making a bid. He gave good advice on a pattern that would work well with our roof and hide leaf and needle debris from our roof that drains directly onto the deck. I did need to follow up on scheduling the work, but once things got going Scott and his assistant did a beautiful job installing a new Duradek covering over the old decking material after sanding it down smooth. Most of the work was completed in one day. Scott and his assistant worked steadily hard, were polite, and kept me informed as they went along. Scott returned another day to trim the new deck material at the roof line and screw it in place as well as to replace a piece of siding damaged when removed for access. He was careful of landscaping with his ladder. Clean up was near perfect - I found a few screws on the deck at completion. No big deal. We can't wait to get out on the deck next summer to sip some wine and gaze over Greenlake at the Olympics at sunset .I would hire Scott and his crew again in a heartbeat.

Scott and his crew were clean, professional, and informative with all details of the project. The original work was estimated at $2,400, but the additional verifiable damage extended the project and cost. No details of the damage were hidden, and no shortcuts or corners taken to accelerate the work or minimize overhead. No additional work was taken without authorization and estimated extended cost. This additional work was properly and accurately accounted, with accomodating schedule adjusted to suit. This ends a long and frustrating history of attempts to stop lower floor water leakage that may have eventually resulted in partial roof collapse. We wish Scott and his crew continued success in the high level of quality and professionalism they have demonstrated.
Description of Work: Approximately 80sqf second story integrated weather deck replaced with fully waterproof decking, and underlying venting installed. Supporting roof post, underlying water damaged/rotted framing joist, and corner support framing to the foundation replaced. Corner of roof jacked up to level, which had sagged by approximately three inches. Surrounding siding removed and two large windows resealed with much of the surrounding water damaged/rotted particle board replaced. Full trim, siding, moisture barrier, and backing boards removed or replaced, depending upon damage. Flashing and counter flashing installed, and all resealed. Railing removed, supporting post wrapped with thicker and more resilient wood to keep water from the supporting post, and the double railings integrated cleanly back onto the deck with additional lateral support to meet code. Additional cracked and old siding replaced. Further investigation of other questionable areas.

I highly recommend Scott and his crew. I selected Scott over four other contractors. I was not disappointed at all. Scott had a great price, was very professional, did excellent work and was very timely. Scott also had some very serious family matters right before the beginning of our project. He balanced all of these demands in a truly professional manner. Scott also scheduled with and was very respectful of our tenants and their schedules. Without hesitation Scott and his crew are top notch.

The 2 man crew that owner Scott Dennis had work this job was outstanding. Both were extremelly professional, knowledgable and very responsive to 'owner inquiries'. They left the site broom clean when they left and really took pride in what they did. It was a very positive experience overall. I am not in the habit of capriciously awarding A's all around...however in this case it was earned and well deserved.
Description of Work: The roof deck over our garage (approx 700sf) needed to be replaced. It was over 15 years old and water was penetrating in many locations. Waterproofing scope was removal of existing top layer of plywood, installation of new plywood, installation of Duradek membrane wrapped up the walls and z-flashing and metal trim installed. Other general carpentry works included removal and reinstallation of existing railing system, removal of landing, and some fascia repair. I wanted the work performed right away and paid extra to have site tented and kept dry.

Very smooth, very pleasant men, excellent craftsmanship. They did the work while we were at work, so I saw little of them, but when I was here, they were as nice as can be. I felt confident that after our initial discussions, all was in good hands, and that what we discussed would happen. It all went very well. If I had another deck, I'd have them re-do it.

About a year and a half ago Scott's company rebuilt our two leak-prone deck/balconies. They new decks seemed perfect and ceased to leak and had no further water back-ups, as they had had prior to Scott's work. A few weeks ago we discovered that one of the decks was either still leaking or sprung a new leak. Scott had his mechanic return promptly, and again completely re-build the deck No charge. What a great company!

Several weeks prior to connecting with this company we had had another contractor remove indoor/outdoor carpeting and apply a waterproof paint. An inferior product and poor workmanship ended up directing water from the deck and creating a ceiling leak. The Waterproof decking folks came the day that I called to provide a bid, sealed the deck the next day to prevent further leaking, and finished the project within 4 days. They did a good job and worked around the activities we had scheduled around our daughter's wedding and our many guests from out-of-town. Update: Our leak reappeared and we again called the Waterproof Decking folks. They came out and identified and fixed the leak even though it was not related to their original work. Although they did not expect payment, we did pay them for this work.

We decided not to install a waterproof deck. Scott however was very polite and offered us alternatives and their cost. some friends have this deck and they enjoy it. Scott was on time and called before he came over. Should we decide to go this route in the future (right now we're just going to repair the small section with cedar) we will definitely consider him again. A good learning exerience as Scott is very knowledgeable about decks in general.

Scott Dennis and crew showed up on time, worked very diligently according to the plan we agreed on, communicated very well throughout the project, were very professional in their work yet were extremely courteous and friendly as well. They also were flexible to add new projects as needed. For example, when we moved the hot-tub and saw there was no drain in the floor underneath, we immediately agreed to add that to the project. During the project it became clear to me that Scott is extremely knowledgeable about every facet of installing decks due to his long tenure running his deck business. But what stands out for me is his pride of workmanship. Scott's attitude seems to be to do "whatever it takes" to do the best job for the customer - even though this may have cost him additional expense. He's the rare type of tradesman today that puts quality and customer satisfaction above everything else. And for me that was a breath of fresh air! So if you are reading this and wonder what kind of recommendation I would give Waterproof Deck Co, well, I would have to give it the highest of recommendations. Whether your deck needs are simple or complex, I don't believe there is a better company around - Scott Dennis and crew will get it done the right way at a very reasonable price.
Description of Work: We have two large decks overlooking Puget Sound with old weather-deck surface material that needed replacement. We also needed several improvements to the decks themselves - described below. I took bids from all the top companies and selected Scott Dennis at Waterproof Deck Company to perform the following services: remove existing deck material and sand uneven areas, provide filler in certain areas to improve slope toward drains, replace existing drains with larger heavy-duty drains, install new 60 mil Duradec membrane, trim bottom of siding (the decks are partially surrounded by knee walls) so the deck material can be installed up and behind the walls to guarantee zero leaks, cap the trimmed siding with attractive trim board, install decking under outdoor stairs and hot-tub with minimum of disruption, and install new metal caps under railings that run along the sides of both decks. In summary, we needed a company that could do more than just install a new deck surface - we needed someone we could trust to solve a number of deck issues and do all of this at a reasonable price.

I got quotes from 3 contractors. All were about the same price, but I chose this one. We were scheduled for later but he called and said he wanted to start immediately since he had an opening. I asked for a specific color of the duradek and he said he couldn't do that color and gave me a different one instead that I didn't like as well. They left the front porch uncovered with rain predicted even though I asked them to cover it with a tarp. I basically had to cover it myself when I came home and found it. When the tiles were put on the front stoop, I asked to get samples of the grout (I wanted it to match the color of my house). He said ok, but didn't do it. He put in a different color that I didn't like. I had misgivings about the job throughout, but decided to wait until they were done to give them a chance to make it look good. They didn't. On the balcony, the railing was replaced such that the glass in it was no longer straight . It was not even at one end and was touching the wood of the bottom rail. The post looked like it was leaning out when viewed from the top. From the bottom it looked even worse. The post of rail had a diagonal gap between it and the balcony in 2 out of 3 of the posts. On the porch, the railing looked good and it looked all right looking out, but walking up to the house made me want to cry. Granted I didn't include touch up paint in the quote, but I would have if they had mentioned it and a little touch up paint would have gone a long way in making it look better than it did before I scheduled the work. The grouting at the front door wasn't even with the tile and door leaving a lovely little gully on the south side of the house where the wind gets quite fierce in our winter storms. I expressed my unhappiness with the work to the owner, who said he would make the balcony look right by putting wood or covering the gaps on the bottom with caulking, but I didn't want to "cover up" the work. I wanted it done right. He offered to do something to fix the gully at the front door and I agreed, but he was never heard from again. I ended up hiring someone else to fix the rail on the balcony and will have to hire someone to help with the front porch too. The person who fixed the rail did say the rail was left in plumb, so they did that right, but they should have modified the post so the rail looked level. Overall, he did what he said he would and technically, the work was adequate, but the quality was not good, my choices in color and material weren't honored and I wasn't pleased with the result.
Description of Work: I needed someone to replace the surface of a small balcony and front porch that were tiled and had cracks in the tile. He put duradek on the balcony and duradek base with tile installed over it on the front porch and replaced the prior railing. They also replaced some dry rotted wood on the balcony.

Response from WATERPROOF DECK CO
We strive to provide each and every client with quality work and customer service, and take client dissatisfaction seriously. This clients first choice of color was not available in stock so an alternate color was offered and accepted prior to the work proceeding. After multiple attempts to resolve any issues at no additional charge the client declined and said she wanted someone else to look at the work. I welcomed a second opinion and offered to make any corrections a third party contractor found negligent in our work. I offered to paint the new trim we installed free of charge but she declined and said she would have the house painted soon. I expressed how important it was to make sure she was satisfied with our work and offered to come back after she had someone else evaluate our work. No attempt was made by the owner to contact us and schedule a time we could come make corrections. In the owners report she concluded that the work performed did meet the contract agreement but she was not satisfied with the final results. It is unfortunate and very disappointing that this customer was not willing to work with us to resolve the issues she had with the completed work.

The entire experience was great. Scott (the owner) came out to do the bid on a Sunday which was very helpful. During that time (before we agreed on the contract) he provided several tips and suggestions as I was rebuilding the deck. He returned to the job site twice before the installation to ensure all was going well and to answer any questions we had on preparing the surface for Duradek install. While other vendors said the install would take up to 3 days, Scott's crew came and completed the work in a single day. The final product is looks great and more importantly the craftsmanship is solid. We love our new deck and were very happy with all aspects of Waterproof Deck Co.

This project went very well. During the short consultation diagnosed problem, recommended fix, and provided samples of vinyl. Also recommended door be removed so the material could be installed correctly. They were able to start right away and even started a day early. Took 2 1/2 days to complete. Always on time and finished by dark as not to disturb my neighbors. There were always 2 to 3 workers present at the sight. Stayed within original quote although it took extra time/materials to fix unanticipated damaged area in patio floor. They had to leave materials in bedroom during the project and were very respectful of my space. Cleaned up bedroom and front outside of house nicely each day. Reinstalled door, railing and siding correctly. When the left could hardly tell they were ever there. Overall - great price, impressive expertise/craftsmanship and very pleasant, efficient and clean.
Description of Work: Repaired 3rd floor bedroom patio on west side of house over the front door and porch. Removed old wood and material. Rebuilt the wood foundation and covered the patio floor with vinyl material and sealed it from the patio edges to the siding, under the door. Repaired/rebuilt damaged area on north side of patio flooring where water was causing leak to second floor ceiling and window. Removed patio wood railing and french door for install.
