Oscar is nice and friendly but has limited skill. We hired him to build a walk in closet and fix some bad drywall. The result was a total disaster. He couldn't fix the drywall and created more problems to be fixed. He used a bigger frame than the existing framing. The wall turned out bowed and curved. There are three different paint textures on the same wall. There were holes in the ceiling. The closet door can?t be closed. Even the painting he did was uneven. Oscar doesn't know how to do the work, but he is good in writing contracts. Half way through building the closet, we wanted to fire him. We didn't because of the contract he made us sign. We also didn't sue him because we have to pay his lawyer?s fee. There are only few options under the contract. (a) Repair the nonconforming services (b) Replacement of the non-conforming services, or (c) a refund of Customer?s contract price. We contacted him, and he said he can fix the problems with additional costs. He said he will only refund $150. That was a month ago. We didn't receive any money, and since then there has been no communication from Oscar at all. We got four different contractors to estimate the repair. Each of them was surprised by the poor work. We paid Oscar $2600 to build a walk in closet, and then we spent another $2000 to fix his work. We've hired many different contractors to remodel our house; Oscar is the worse one we have ever hired. Oscar is not a skilled contractor, but a smart business man. He told us he built an entire house, but couldn't build a walk in closet? All he seems to care about is his profit and nothing else. Oscar and his company ?Omikron Handy Services? are good at getting business, but they will get our business only once. If you hire Oscar, you may have to spend a lot more to fix the result as we had to do.

Response from Omikron Handy Services
Dear [member name removed], thank you for writing a review in regards to your experience with my business, (even as negative and false as it is) please allow me to respond to each and every point you made: You did hire me to build a walk in closet not to fix the terrible drywall job you had done yourself (read the contract), I could have fixed the bad drywall and actually advised you to do so in two of our phone conversations but you declined it and decided to just go for the cheaper "fix", my new walls are square, level and plumb as well as I used the right size steel studs as the contract reads, there is a difference in the wall textures since its very unlikely to make it all match perfectly (at least for me, therefore I stated it in the contract " match as good as possible", the same goes for the paint since you didn't want to pay for the entire room to be repainted to match. The contract you signed (I DID NOT make you sign anything) was for your protection also, I DID NOT ask you for a single penny upfront or take any money from you until the job was done; and the contract states that all "all workmanship is subject to customer's approval" , your wife inspected everything before she paid me, also, if you wanted to fire me (which you never mentioned) why did you keep asking me to quote more work for you? you are very right about my contract, it is there mainly to protect me from people that will try to take advantage of small contractors like myself, almost every day there was a "little detail" that was not in the contract and your wife wanted to add it to my to do list . This job was finished around 5 weeks ago and you say you contacted me for a refund a month ago? I emailed you the quote you requested from me to rep[lace your windows on the 26th of April and it took almost 3 weeks after that for me to hear from you. When you first contacted me and asked me if there was any kind of warranty on my work, my answer was; "yes I will fix anything that is faulty, lets schedule a day and time so you can show me what it is that you don't like" but you just wanted "money back" how can I make a refund without even making sure you are stating the truth? how would I know you're not just trying to get money from me to pay for your windows? when you told me that you have to pay a "real contractor" $2000 to fix the problem I told you that you didn't have to pay that ridiculous amount of money and that if you wanted to fix the problem you created when you patched a door opening the wrong way I could take the section of wall down and rebuild it just the way I had advised you to do it but you refused to in one of telephone conversations and I quote: "just make it look more even" why would I do it at no charge if it was not part of the original contract? the closet door closed perfectly the entire time after it was installed and it was working perfectly when your wife inspected it and paid me in full for my services, the 4" door frame I used was to create a different casing effect in combination with the trim around it if you of your wife didn't like the look why didn't you mention anything any of the 4 or 5 days that it was there (installed) before I finished? Of course many new contractors are going to come in and talk trash about the previous contractor's work, they want work themselves! Last but not least: Why didn't you remember to mention the things I did at no additional charge? like all the old broken plastic outlet covers that I replaced with new nice metal ones or the fact that I replaced all the wall base even in sections that were not part of the contract. Thank you for saying I am smart, this was the first time I ever had a contract signed (I got the idea from another Angie's list contractor that dealt with a similar situation) and I am very glad I did. DO NOT expect a refund after all of the aggravating things you said to me and wrote about me the last thing I want to do is give you money back besides it would imply that I did something wrong and I DID NOT. Please REFRAIN from contacting me again in any form.

Oscar Hernandez responded to our call immediately. He arranged to come out and give us a bid which was very reasonable. He coordinated with Pest Rangers so they could treat the damaged area and then he repaired all the woodwork. His work was excellent and he even continued working as it got dark to get the job completed. He was punctual, very polite, hard working, and knowledgeable. We are keeping his phone number handy in case of any future needs.
Description of Work: Removed siding, damaged interior, and window of sun room to allow for spraying of insect damage. Rebuilt and replaced everything after treatment.
