Floors went pretty well, but for some reason he decided not to use shims on shower walls to keep all tiles in same plane. When it came time to grout, the corners of some tiles were slightly recessed in relation to the tiles around them and the grout lines were not crisp in those spots. He also used thinner spacers than was planned for and ended up with a narrow open strip around the top of the shower walls. We decided to fill with strips taken from glass mosaic tiles that matched an accent strip already set in the shower walls. Unfortunately, the strips that fit the narrow band were all the same pattern of colors and the result was a strip that gave the shower a circus big-top look. I pulled those tiles as quickly as I could to avoid having the adhesive he used set any further. Kevin did install that strip as we had discussed, but I was not impressed with his "eye" or with his apparent unwillingness to at least call and express doubt about how it looked. When tiling the shower walls, he did not lay down a sheet of plastic or anything on the floor and a goodly amount of thinset and grout ended up there. He assured me he would scrape it up before laying the 1" square tile floor. When I got home from work, he had grouted the floor but had not cleaned the excess off the tiles, leaving that for me to do (he had also done a poor job of it on the floor areas, leaving significant haze on most of both floors). When I got the excess grout off the shower floor, it was obvious he had not scraped the floor, as the 1" tiles were tilted at odd angles in many places. Kevin talks a good game, but doesn't listen much and his workmanship is not good. He also left thinset stains in multiple places on brick walkways around the house where he had mixed it (again, plastic sheeting would have been a simple solution). In my experience, his workmanship was sub-mediocre, he clearly doesn't follow through to completion and leaves messes with little consideration for the homeowner.

From initial estimate to final estimate he doubled the price. When I asked him to tell me why it increased, he yelled over the phone that he doesn't have take this crap and that it is what it is. then he hung up. Very unprofessional.

I paid most of the estimated amount of $28,000 and they stopped work about one third of the way through. I actually have gone to court and I got a $10,000 cheque for and against them for faulty workmanship. They don?t actually have a business license. So I would suggest that nobody uses them at all. There?s multiple complains from the labor industry against them. It was a really bad experience. They were actually two people. Everything is lousy about them. Although they quoted me with a decent price but I had to get another contractor.
Description of Work: I had a contractor named JK Reliable Renovations that was terrible and they are on Angie’s List. They did a kitchen renovation, bathroom renovation, flooring and basic general contracting works.

Kevin did an excellent job from start to finish. Although this was a small job, he was very conscientious; willing to make four trips to my house, so that each step was done with proper time between each step ? first for set-up and needed initial caulking, then for laying the tile, then for grouting, and then for sealing. He was prompt with his bid, kept up clear communication, had great attention to detail, was organized, very personable, arrived on time (even early), called when he said he would, worked diligently. I was very comfortable having him in my home. Note: Between the time of the initial bid in November to the time of the actual work in March, Kevin changed the name of his company from Box of Tiles to JK Reliable Renovations. The scheduling delay was a result of my schedule. Also, we purchased the tile separately, so the cost of the tile was not part of the above amount. I did not have a competing bid, but I felt he was very reasonable.
Description of Work: Installed approx 20 square feet of ceramic wall tile for a kitchen backsplash, including three decorated tiles that required special placement and cutting of surrounding tile.
