Chet’s sub contracted out the demo work, who bent a side pedestrian gate. They also made a huge mess and didn’t want to clean it up off the driveway. Next day was the gutter installation. Gutters looked good but had a leak. After several emails without responses Chet’s eventually came out a few weeks later with 15 minutes notice and repaired the bent gate and leak.

I had many options and colors to pick from for my new roof and one that fit my budget. The crew arrived early and got busy, the job was done very professionally. All of the debris was placed in a bin and removed at the end of the job. The cleanup was if they had not been here. The price was very fair, I got several estimates and their bid was not the lowest or the highest. I am very pleased with the outcome and have a 30-year warranty that is transferable should I at some point decide to sell my home. I have had no problems with the new roof of any kind but know if I did I could count on Chet's Roofing to be there for me. Great Company and great customer service.

Went smoothly. Completely both the skylite and the kitchen fan roof exhaust in 4 hrs. I did not discover any leak after it done. Outside roof appearance is good. Workers are professional and know what is required to complete the job. The kitchen fan roof exhaust is a tricky one and cannot be done with conventional flashing. So the installer use a torch down roof method instead. Good thinking. Pic show both the skylite and the kitchen fan roof exhaust.

While it leaked after the initial repair, they worked with us to replace the skylight to fully correct the issue. They were very responsive and ensured no further leaking would take place until the final repair could be made. Both the person we worked in the office, and the crew on our site, were very responsive and respectful. It was a great experience having them do this work for us.

A DISASTER AFTER ONLY TWO DAYS! WE HAVE NEVER JOINED THESE SITES AND SENT ANY REVIEWS ON ANY PAST ISSUES WITH TRADES BECAUSE THEY WERE BAD AND COST US A LOT OF MONEY FOR THEIR POOR WORK BUT THIS HAD TO BE SOMETHING NOBODY COULD EXPECT. After only two days installing 250 s.f.(of 8000 on this home) and finding the crew not properly installing any of the aluminum flashing and roof tiles per the installation instructions, using the wrong safety fasteners on the roof tie offs (should be 16D gal. and they used much smaller and only put two in where it required eight!), leaving the forklift unattended with the materials on a pallet up in the air, asking others on the site as well as ourselves very personal questions such as "where we got the money", invading my personal space with contact from them such as an arm on the shoulder etc! I reported the invasion of my personal space and inappropriate touching, inappropriate comments, speaking to our employees and others on a personal nature etc. By the second day when it was obvious they had no idea what they were doing we sent photos to Chet and he agreed it was not correct but when he came out he hollered, started dictating to his assistant his comments of how perfect the job was and everything is done just right etc and made it clear in several statements he was calling his attorney! I think that was the best step he did was get an attorney; at least hopefully someone will be intelligent and understand the work was not proper, the proposal was not followed, we have incurred thousands of dollars loss from the damaged tiles that are not resuable when they are removed, the same with the aluminum, they cut holes in the Ice and Water Shield for reasons unknown to us and that made rain pour into the home over our $65,000 order of Marvin windows and doors stored in the house since April with never a drop before on them!!! I told Chet they did this and he had no concern, he continued to yell and would not even consider our request to have a different crew come out and see if they had the skills and knowledge to do this installation. His response was to not consider that, he refused to allow the fascia installer to continue when he was doing an all right job and we asked to at least allow him to finish as that proposal was a separate price and it would be easy to settle up and have that done which we desperately needed. In lieu of any step to help or remedy he sent an invoice for $27,712.56!!! This represented 30% of the total proposal to install the 8000 s.f. of this home and yet they installed (improperly) only 250 s.f. which is about 3%! So Chet is demanding 30% for performing 3% and it was all wrong on the roof and the roof flashings!! (Yelp has more details on this with the breakdown on his billing which is so absurd! He billed for "commissions, site visits, OVERHEAD COMPANY COST OF 20% ($14,995.17), hourly labor, yard crew labor costs etc etc.) I will follow up with more later but had to get this out to alert anyone. We were so fooled by his very professional web site, well done, great video, numerous web ads with nice complete details, and looks so complete with his "40 years! of experts etc." The man whom came to write the proposal was great, he was intelligent, understood the roof tiles and had experience and knowledge it appeared in all aspects of this business and really wrote a complete professional proposal and we had no idea it was the only good thing about Chets. Had we met Chet, not that great elderly man with a lot of experience, soft spoken and sincere, we would never have chosen Chet since he is 180 degree opposite! Loud, arrogant, demeaned his men, shouted at me and everyone and has a short fuse and thinks he can intimidate by threats of attorneys when that is the best for us to deal with an attorney not this loudmouth that won't listen to anyone. ok, please heed advice, look at reviews read them (sorry we did not) but now I see them on Yelp, Judy's etc and realize we are not alone as his victims. We will upload photos in the future so you can see the results!!!
Description of Work: Two homes were to be roofed with slate tile and aluminum fascia cladding and flashing, copper cutters and downspouts, with Chet providing the labor to perform and we provided all the materials to match existing buildings of the same design and materials.

I had my roof changed by Chet's roofing and construction in November 2015, and the experience was a nightmare. 1. To begin with, they wanted to change my roof when it was raining cats and dogs. I researched online and found out that it is absolutely a bad idea. I asked the crew lead: "isn't a bad idea to install roofs in the rain?" He said, well my boss sent me. You should talk to him. So he gave me the owner's phone number (Chet). Chet agreed not to do the work in that day and hung up. It alarmed me that this company does not hold their customers' best interest in what they do. 2. The delivery company delivered the roofing materials by an 18 wheeler truck and a crane. The truck made a large hole in the concrete of my driveway. The driver told me that he had warned Chet that this driveway will be damaged, but Chet instructed him to do it anyway! When Chet and his assistant showed up to see the damage. He was agitated, hostile, and unreasonable, telling me: If your driveway was new this would have not happened! Why didn't you change your driveway a few years ago? I am not responsible for damage done by a third party. 3. There were overcharges of $1177.0 on my bill that I caught and they fixed. a. An additional charge for pipe & cap where it was already in the contract as part of the bid. b. Was charged for 60 plywood sheets where I had counted them to be 42 and 10 of which were not used and taken back by the crew. Then Chet verifies it "somehow" by phone in a matter of seconds and changes the bill! However, the unused 10 sheets were ignored. 4. Chet offered to pay me $800.00 for the concrete damage to which I agreed. Then after weeks gone by, he sent me an agreement that if I sign it to promise that I won't write a negative review about Chet's roofing and construction then he will pay for the damage! Of course, I did not agree to it, and they did not pay for the damage. 5. The roof installation was not done properly. The Certainteed Presidential shake composition - which comes in multi-layers with some raised sections - should have been installed in such a way to create a uniformed pattern on the roof. But that is not the case of my new roof and even there are many of these raised sections are side by side! The standard of work quality and integrity of business conduct are set by the business owner and when the owner is to be concerned, then that business is not reliable to deal with.

Response from Chet's Roofing & Construction
First of all, after we signed a contract with the homeowner, she called us several times a day to tell us she was online, and researched how to install a roof, so she considered herself to know more than experienced roofers, and after being harassed for days the owner did ask her to stop harassing us and that we know what we are doing. Then on the day we were delivering the shingle and materials, in pre-packaged plastic covered shingles that were impenetrable from water, it was drizzling. She wanted the material returned because the shingles got wet, and shingles aren't supposed to get wet, according to her. Why do we put shingles on roofs if they aren't supposed to get wet? Shingles are designed to get wet, that is why they are used in ROOFING. When the supplier arrived at her premises, he noticed that her driveway was old and severely cracked all over. He knocked on her door to let her know and contacted our office to verify if okay to pull into driveway. It was decided that since the driveway was already in such bad shape, that pulling in and delivering the material wasn't going to make any difference. Secondly, in our contract it states that if the supplier's loading truck cannot go up to your house via your driveway to load material, and we have to manually load the roof, that there would be an additional cost for that labor work. She did not want to pay for us to hand carry the bundles up on her roof. Therefore, we took 23 photos of her damaged driveway that was already cracked, so that we could see if there was any additional damage done by the supplier's truck. There ended up being a one foot spot that indented where it was already cracked. The homeowner became agitated and argumentative, saying derogative things on the phone to our office staff. Finally she was offered $800 to pay for the dent in her driveway, by us, not the supplier, in return that she not be one of those homeowners that goes on line writing all kinds of rude stuff against us. If there had been a roof install issue that would have been a different story and we would have rectified the situation, as it would have pertained to her warranty. She refused in writing by email to accept the $800 payment. A month later we get a court notice that she is now demanding the $800. When we came to court, she NEVER said anything to the Judge that there was anything wrong with her roof install, and to date has not ever called and complained that there was anything wrong with her roof install. The Judge wouldn't listen to our side or review the 23 photographs of the driveway and only concentrated on the fact that we asked her not to do what she is now doing. We gave her a check for $900 anyway, ordered by the Judge. We just want the truth to be told. We have learned over the years that the hard working Americans that work seven days a week, are going to encounter people that are going to unfairly besmudged their company. It is absolutely inevitable. Fortunately we do have the privilege of working with the finest family's in the Puget Sound area. Good honest people that make our work fullfilling and will forever make us feel fulfilled whenever we witness their satisfaction with our work.

The contract was signed and received by Chet's on July 31st. I was told it would be 2-3 weeks to start work after the contract was sent in and 2-3 weeks to complete all the work. Work started on the 28th of August. Initially only the roof was completed. Since then only the trim around the windows was been removed. I was told by the office staff at Chet's that the windows would be in tomorrow October the 2nd a full 8 and half weeks after the contract was sent in. To date I have not received any specific information as to why there have been delay's. I have also not received any specific information as to why there were discrepancies between the verbal bid and the contract. I still don't know what the cost difference will be to complete the work and the original bid price. I have sent 3 2-4 page long emails itemizing my concerns and asking very specific questions. I received only one response 6 weeks after my original email that contained only a few yes or no answers and a bid for the additional $1,300 for the chimney cap. Every time I have called (approximately 15 phone calls over the last 2 months) the office staff has said Chet was either in a meeting or out of the office. They have always been very polite but they can't answer my questions and usually take several days to get back to me. Only once have been able to talk to Chet directly. He said he would read my original email questions then go to house and get back to me. His response was the yes or no answers to about 2/3rds of my questions and the extra $1,300 dollars for the chimney cap. I haven't paid them any money yet but I have lost $1,300 in rent money because the job was supposed to be finished 2 weeks ago. I have talked with the office twice today and they were unable to give me any update on any of the discrepancies, when I can expect the work to be completed or final cost estimate over the contract price.
Description of Work: I received an initial verbal bid to replace the roof, windows, siding and gutters for approximately $29k. After I received the contract for the bid there were several discrepancies between the contract and verbal bid. The skylights and sliding glass door were not included (additional $2k), the rain cap was not included ( and additional $1.3k), the siding was supposed to James Hardie product but the trim was apparently going to be wood ( no estimate received on additional cost). Also there were several fascia boards that needed to be replaced and covered with Hardie product that were not included in the original bid.

they did an excellent job, but, since i have a manufactured home, Wa. State Labor and Industries had to inspect the finished product. L&I found two minor discrepancies, and Chet's immediately came out to my house and resolved them. it is now 09/10/2015, and i couldn't be happier with the roofing job. however, i did find a number of roofing nails in my yard, after the job was complete.

I interviewed a lot of contractors, but they were the ones who had experience in mobile home roof. I would not recommend them. I also had them to put in new gutters and they ran out of something that they needed. They had to come back the next day. We had heavy rain that night and all the water came inside the house through the windows because there was no gutters to catch it. I immediately called them and they came out and put the gutters on and they were sorry that they ran out of the materials they needed. I told them when you schedule jobs, you should have the equipment to do it. Couple of days later it rained again and my bedroom window leaked through one of the screws they put in while they put the roof on. But there was no damage. They were supposed to be here at 8 in the morning and they showed up about 11 and it took 2 days and they had to come 3 or 4 times.

They did an excellent job. There could have been better communication on when the guys were coming out and through e-mailing. They stated they sent over the contract, but I did not get it. They cleaned up after themselves, I was very satisfied. The only thing I could say they need to work on is the communication. We plan to hire them in the future to do our garage!

Two workers arrived and one surveyed my problem. They went up on the roof and begin opening the skylight. Upon removing the skylight they discovered the problem area and said it was also molding. They had a new one at their shop. One person stayed and worked on the skylight and the other went to the shop and got the new skylight. Within about 2-3 hours, I had a new skylight. The perfect test was yesterday as it was really rainy and windy and no leaks. Thanks again, Chet's Roofing

They were VERY prompt returning my phone call right away. They always showed up right on time. Although I was not personally onsite during all the construction, I was told by the renter that they cleaned up every day as the bathroom work was being done while the property was occupied. There were two small change orders both of which were handled promptly and professionally. They also accepted a credit card for payment which was a plus for me. Their prices were quite reasonable as well. I would have no problem using them again or recommending them to others.

Started 8/22/14 and finished 10/13/14. The chimney was supposed to be the first thing done. It was the first thing started the last thing finished . On numerous occasions no one showed up when promised. The chimney work was in my opinion "terrible ". All 3 flue tiles were smaller than the originals, and not what was quoted on bid. The larger flue was installed with a large rock under one side of the tile to make it level and to keep it from falling into the tile below it.They left part of the mortar excess in place. I had to have them regrind and remortar it. I had to request, the nail holes be caulked, and other finish work be done. The entryway was discussed extensively on what I wanted done. However it was left out of the bid. I knew it would get more involved once they tore into it, and the cost adjusted accordingly, but it wasn't included at all. All the materials used were charged at over twice retail cost.. This was the worst contractor experience I have ever had, and I have owned 3 apartment units (17 total apartments) and 5 rental houses.
Description of Work: Redo chimney as needed, tear off 1 layer of hot tar roofing, tear off all gutters & facia, replace any damaged plywood shiplap or structural boards, install new 3 ply hot tar roof, install new facia, install new gutters, repair rotted entry area, clean up and haul away all materials.

Update to respond to their comments. I was never contacted by Helen until they wanted payment. Chet was very aware of all the problems as I was speaking with him directly. If he didn't communicate that to Helen that is their communication problem. There was NEVER a complaint from me about the additional costs to replace the plywood. The issue with cost is that they never came back to clean up the job site when they were done and I wanted them to either clean it up or pay for someone else to. They left massive amount of nails, jagged pieces of metal and garbage all the way around our house. I had to pay the costs of having the site cleaned up. In the end they never made it right because all Chet would do when I spoke to him was be hostile. Helen never offered to resolve the matter. What a dishonest company. Chet is the worst contractor I've ever dealt with. They were hired to put on a new roof. Everything went well until they got the roof shingles off. Then they found the framing had to be replaced. We had no idea this needed to be done until he told us. When he called to let me know he was screaming and irate. I talked to him about what needed to be done and the costs. We came home to look at what needed to be done and view the job. He continued to be nothing but hostile. We went ahead and let him do the work since they had already started. We hoped that his hostility would end once he got any scheduling problems worked out (that's the only reason we could come up with that he would be so hostile towards us). His employees tried to hook up their compressor to the neighbors house because they couldn't get into our house. They never even told us they would need this access. The neighbor was very upset. Chet continued to be nothing but hostile. He never said a word to either of us without yelling. We couldn't wait for the nightmare to be over and have them leave. We also spoke with his wife several times about the problem and she was just as unprofessional and nasty to deal with. After they finished the roof they didn't clean up anything on the ground. We're talking all the nails, jagged pieces of metal, shingles, garbage. Everything that they dropped on the ground was left. After repeated calls to his office he refused to clean up his mess but was demanding payment in full. We ended up paying him just to get rid of him and had to clean everything up ourselves. Horrible company to hire!!!!!!!! (Note: I am writing this review several years after the work was done but just joined Angies List and wanted people to know what kind of company they will be dealing with).

Response from Chet's Roofing & Construction
I just found this referral and feel that I must reply and set the record straight on this. I am Helen, Chet's wife, and I do all the accounting at Chet's Roofing. I do not talk to customers concerning problems on jobs sites and only usually get involved when there is a non-payment issue. That usually is a letter from me requesting payment prior to the account being sent to collections. I try to prevent any collection and legal fees. This project was performed several years ago, and we keep all jobs folder and log all calls in a Customer Service log as well as on the job folder. I pull this file and reviewed the log. First of all, there is no mention in our files anywhere that this customer and I had any conversations until after she received my letter requesting payment. Secondly, there's no mention in the files that she was upset with anyone from our company, even Chet, with being treated disrespectfully. She even wrote us a very detailed letter concerning the additional charges which was her whole issue. The additional charges were for new plywood decking (65 shts of 1/2" cdx), (100 ft of 1 x 8), and (3 ft of fascia which she wasn't charged for). The possibility of these types of additional cost were noted on her contract with the price per square ft. if rot was found. She was also contacted concerning these charges before we did them. This is verified in her detailed letter to us. We are not allowed by law to put a roof over rotted plywood. She was quoted over the phone by Chet that the about is around $2,800.00 additional. The plywood for 21 sqrs ended up being 3250.00 (labor & material), this includes tearing off the old decking and installing new. Once the decking was removed there were 100 ft. of rotted support beams that were found, this wasn't known during Chet's estimated cost. Rotted fascia was also replaced at no charge to the customer. It is not our fault her structure had rot and that she needed a full re-sheet. These possibilities were also noted on her contract. We always make sure our customers are notified and it is documented. Mrs. Gallez had no complaint about the quality of work and made no mention regarding any debris left there. Her roof installed was started on June 11, 2007, not in 2009. Once the job was completed, a final was set on June 18, 2007, with one of our Superintendents, where the grounds were again checked out and a magnet broom was walked around the premises to pick up any nails that may have fallen during the tear off. We called on 6/21 to set up meeting for payment, no return call. We called again on 6/22, left message, no return call. My first contact with her was by my letter dated July 3rd as final request for payment. She then called the office and asked to speak to me and said she was only going to send a check for the amount she thought she should pay, which was $980.10 less then her invoice. Finally we received a letter dated July 5th,with a payment for $8105.90. She also quotes in her letter what she thinks she should be charged, and again, no mention of disrespect by Chet or issues. We decided to just accept her payment cause is wasn't worth the time or aggravation to continue to get her to pay the balance. Since then there has not been one call for any leaks or issues with the work we performed on her property. Copies off all this can be supplied at any time. All is documented. I am sorry she was upset over additional cost, but we have no way of knowing this until we open up a roof, which we can't do during an estimate.

We had a shake roof and wanted to switch to composite. We got three bids and Chet's was the least expensive. That was the deciding factor for us, since we had already had them do a roof repair job in the past and that seemed to go okay. They were eager to get started and did the whole job in a week or less. The workmen were friendly. We got a beautiful new roof. At the after-inspection there were a couple of things that still needed to be taken care of. The inspector was quite agreeable about this and this was taken care of a few days later with no additional expense. The final bill was exactly as agreed upon at the outset and they did all the work that we were expecting. So, we were totally satisfied and some of my neighbors who know more than I about roofs have complimented the workmanship (we went with presidential shingles).

I got a bid from Chet's Roofing for my vacation home in Kitsap County. After several bids from other companies, I decided to have it installed by Chet's even though it was a distance for them to travel. I felt the bid was very complete and it was explained to me in terms I could understand. I was assured the work would be performed in a manner to meet current county requirements for reroofing. The crew arrived about 7:30 am and in no time they had the old roof off. They had to replace three sheets of plywood and added several new vents. By 3 pm the roof was complete and the grounds clean. I definitely would use them again. This was the third roof we have had them install. I need a garage built and plan on getting an estimate from them. The sales rep was very knowledgeable and everyone I talked to was professional. It was a pleasure working with them.

I had Chet's out to bid the roof job back in February. We wanted to wait a few months to have the work done and they were very understanding and very low pressure. When we were ready for the work they were great and we had to have them change a few things from the first bid that we had changed our mind on. We received a nice email prior to the work starting explaining how to prepare for the work. The entire crew was extremely professional and did a great job cleaning the job site every night. The crew was also very considerate. Everything went as planed, they did such a great job. The new roof is beautiful. I hated the skylight and they did such a great job with the way it was framed in when they removed it. The skylight made the room it was in too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter, it leaked at times (which skylights are notorious for). The only regret I have is that I wish I would have put more solar tubes in, I had one installed in both my upstairs bathrooms which has eliminated the need for lights 90% of the time and the bathrooms no longer feel like dark little caves. I also had one installed in my office and I love the natural light. I wish I would have had one more installed in the staircase well. The installer for the solar tubes at Chet's did a great job in placing the tube and helped me understand why it had to go where it had to go. Chet's has done work for me before so I trust them without even having to shop their bids, that being said, I did have someone quote me about an outrageous number per solar tube and Chet's bid was phenomenally lower.
Description of Work: tore off old roof, removed one skylight, installed three solar tubes and installed new roof

I had them come out to give an estimate on a tile roof. He came out and got up on the roof an looked it over and he gave me an estimate. I agreed, he brought the crew on time the next day. They got up on the roof, and those two guys on the crew used a little hand wire brush and scrubbed every single tile up and down. It was hot that day, and they did an outstanding job. They laid out tarps all around the house and cleaned everything up. I have the same kind of tools and never would’ve thought to get up there and do that. I was very happy with the experience. He pointed out some of the tiles in certain spots that were cracked. I had a leak in my garage about a month ago, and he told me that might be the problem. He brought out new tiles and replaced them. They also put lead piping on the joints so that the flow would be right. I would highly recommend them. He suggested that because my house is surrounded by trees, there's a tendency for moss growth. There is a powder that you can put across the top of the roof. When it rains, it dissolves the powder and runs down slowly over time to kill off any potential growth for moss.
Description of Work: They came out to clean and repair my tile roof.

They were good. They certainly had the lowest price by far and they did the job very quick. They gave the estimate fast and they were able to come out quite quickly and they finished the job very quickly. I was pleased.

At first when they did not realize it was a warranty job, the office staff was quite helpful. However, when the owner, Chet, came out the next day and found out that it was a warranty job, his attitude changed. They were difficult to deal with after that. He had been avoiding me for a long time. When the water hits a certain level, it is supposed to drain a specific way. Instead, it drains the opposite way and causes the wood to rot and it to leak through the roof. I took a video of this and sent it to him. Over a two month period I had phoned and emailed about four times. I eventually reached him one time when he answered his phone, said to stop harassing him, and that he would get to the work at some point even though it was no longer covered for warranty. I ended up telling him not to bother and that we will hire someone else for the work. We do not feel confident that he will fix the work properly. I would definitely not recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: We purchased a home last summer. The previous owners used Chet’s roofing for the new roof. After moving in, we found issues with the gutters in the front and the back. There was a leak in the roof and that was a $750 repair. We did not know that there was a 10 year warranty before we had the roof repaired. When we learned of the warranty, I contacted them regarding repairs for the gutters.

Response from Chet's Roofing & Construction
As an honest businessman I stand behind my wok and my reputation. It was first brought to my attention that there was an issue with the gutters on November 29th 2014, one week before the workmanship warranty was set to expire. My office staff wrote up a work order and dispatched a technician to evaluate the problem. After evaluating the roof and gutters, it was evident that someone had altered the work that we did in 2003 thus voiding the warranty altogether per the contract agreement. The contract states that “if contractors or persons other than Chet’s Roofing & Construction perform work on or adjust the roof surface completed by Chet’s Roofing & Construction, the workmanship warranty becomes null and void”. Whatever repairs were made, either by you or the previous homeowner weren’t done correctly resulting in damages. Rather than take this approach and void the warranty, I instead, offered to fix the problem free of charge. I would have thought that my willingness to work with you and fix something that is clearly not my fault, would have sufficed but instead you have called and emailed the office multiple times, even sending in a video of what you feel the issues are and threatening to post bad reviews online which could negatively affect my business. I was and still am willing to come out and resolve the issue. I am hoping we can come to a peaceful resolution. Sincerely, Chet Chet’s Roofing & Construction

They didn't indicate a specific day but told us they would start within a week (which they did). They completed the roofing portion of the job in one day and returned later to replace the gutters and downspouts on another. If they hadn't done such a wonderful job in such a short time for so little cost, I might have been a little more put off by the lack of an accurate appointment time. I figure it must have a lot to do with scheduling and not really knowing how long the previous job would take so I give plenty of slack on this issue.
Description of Work: Replaced shingles, gutters and downspouts. Installed roof vents.
