They were on time, professional, and did a great job. I would recommend this company to others. They had a roofer come out with a follow up, but they were too expensive.

We have called them for the estimate and someone came and did go thru the building. And he said he will give us any idea what we can do with our roof but have not heard from him for about a week so we called them. He was not in the office someone else said they will contact me soon. After few days I got an email that they want to do our project but that was it. I have never hear from them again EVER. It will be very difficult to start any kind of job with them and I guarantee they will NOT finish project on time. very disappointed.

Response from Chet's Roofing & Construction
I'm sorry that this customer thought we had not response back to her. The contact person we were dealing with was different (for privacy reasons not posting name). We did submit a proposal but had a bad email address and didn't know she didn't receive it. We got a call from their organization a week later and realized they didn't receive their bid. The person we talked to was understanding and we verified the email address and resent the proposal. Things like this happen when using the internet for communication if a customer doesn't have time to meet up with us. We don't like to bagger our customers with call backs to see if they are going to go with us or not, but we probably should have verified that the email was received. We apologized and she accepted our apology.
Roof replacement completed in two days. The chimney turned out to be larger job than estimated, 21 bricks were replaced.

Quick response to have evaluation and estimate for work to be done-within one day. Roofing crew prompt, courteous, efficient and professional. Blazed through job in 90 degree temperatures. Foreman on site was excellent, conducted a safe operation, had an excellent attention to detail when tearing down old roof , replacing damaged decking, installing composition roof material, fitting flashing and sealing edges, etc. Added two extra vents to increase ventilation for no extra cost. Site cleaned up in a professional manner. Sales estimator needs to work on customer service skills. Seemed like he was just going through the motions. This service does not honor Angie's list member coupon.

It was a good experience, it wasn't like he left a mess but the clean up wasn't done right. The fascia board that they clicked up was like a bold color, I don't know if that's just the color of the wood but it wasn't what I expected, I wanted to get a good job but the piece of wood looked like it was already painted with a totally different color than the rest of the wood. The guy I met was really nice and then a different guy came out to do the work and he wasn't not nice but he was kind of gruff and not particularly friendly and the other thing was that I feel a little bit caught off guard with the painting because I wanted to talk to someone about painting plans and then when they were finished they just said how much I owe them. I felt like they started before I could really talk or ask questions, it's like they came out and did the work without me saying let's go but they were very accommodating. I told them I needed to do three months installments and how much and they were fine with that, they were accommodating with that.

Company estimator was extremely professional, competent and complete. Very pleasant to deal with. Company was able to provide high-grade metal roofing, with warranty despite salt water environment, and do all ancillary work, including gutter hanging and carpentry to join roof to previously free-standing porch roof, to make one cohesive structure. Price was very high, significantly above all four other estimates, but because the estimate was extremely detailed, I felt the company was the best choice despite the price. Most employees were professional, friendly and competent, but one senior employee was not, and I had to request he not return. We had one snag: the roof manufacturer provides an orange, rubber boot to seal around metal chimneys, instead of the older method of metal flashing around a chimney. The boot is probably more effective because it allows for movement as the roof expands and contracts with weather, but it is unattractive, and when fitted over a standing joint between roofing panels, it becomes crumpled on one side and looks even worse. I wanted it concealed. Doing so should have been simple; I was surprised the company wasn't prepared to do so in the regular course of the project. This issue was where I had problems with the one employee who was unpleasant and negative. However, to the company's great credit, they persevered, making extra trips (over 2 hours from their company location) until they got it right. Final solution was a custom aluminum sleeve that matches the chimney and covers the orange boot, cut to fit slope of the roof on the bottom and so the top opening is perpendicular to the chimney, with the base slotted to fit over the standing ridge of the roofing seam.
Description of Work: Job was to completely reroof an existing residence with metal roofing. Required carpentry to mesh a free-standing porch roof with the overall structure, building a cricket to ensure proper drainage where three different sloped areas came together, and hanging of new gutters and downspouts.

It is our recommendation not to hire Chet's Roofing because of poor workmanship and poor work ethic. We had a leak in our roof and had Chet's come out to give a bid. They indicated that the leak was coming from the flat part of our roof and recommended that section needed to be replaced. So Chet's replaced the flat torch-down section of our roof on November 2nd and 3rd that was leaking. The job was roughly $3,500 dollars as we choose to upgrade to a PVC material versus torch down. Two weeks after the install we found that the roof was still leaking, a lot. The same crew who installed the roof covering came out twice on the 19th, each time pointing out two different areas they thought could be causing the leak, but the roof continued to leak even after their attempted fixes. Finally after several phone calls, the supervisor came out on Wednesday the 21st and his guess was that the leak was coming from a third and completely different spot and did some work around his predicted area. He was very defensive telling me to "calm down." While I admit I was pointed, I remained calm - $3,500 and it's still leaking in November?? I wasn't exactly happy. I just wanted some assurance that Chet's would honor their warranty and make it right. The supervisor told us, "unless it is me or Chet that work on your roof, you can't count on it being done right." This was very alarming. Our issue is that the flat roof install was installed incorrectly. That water had penetrated the boarder and found it's way underneath the material. The material is very strong and does not allow any water to get through it, however, once water got underneath it, our question was how would it get out? On Friday, November 23rd we had our contractor tear out the drywall ceiling and insulation that he had recently repaired from the first leak, a $1,000 job. Of the 10 panels he uncovered, half of them contained some amount of water/moisture. One panel had water on the insulation, a few others had several nails that were wet to the touch, another had one seam with visible moisture, and another area, in particular, was very wet as the wood was dark and moist to the touch and had mold starting to grow around it. It is clear from what we found that water has gotten underneath the white PVC material as well as the ice and water shield (insulation/separation sheet) that Chet's installed. This was a failure of the product's installation and was unacceptable. So regardless of the origin of the water, replacing the flat part of our roof was necessary because the work Chet's conducted failed. Chet's refused to consider replacing the roof. Unfortunately we had to hire a lawyer to simply write a letter asking Chet's to honor their warranty. This finally prompted the owner, Chester Chmielinksi himself, to come out to inspect the problem. Honestly, he was worse than his supervisor. We clearly demonstrated that water was still coming through the flat roof seams and nails. Water dripped down on Mr. Chmielinski when he was in our front room. He defensive dismissed this as condensation. Science would argue differently as condensation formation was impossible in that location. He refused to replace the flat roof material and left. After two more letters from our lawyer (those letters are expensive!) Chet's agreed to hire an "Independent Consultant" (who has worked for Chet's before) to review our issue. Please understand that there were always several days to weeks between each of these events. This was ongoing through the holidays robbing us of the room where we put our Christmas tree and having a section of our house with open studs and no insulation for months during winter. Weeks after the Chet's consultant did his inspection, Chet's agreed to redo the shingles leading to the border of the flat roof, essentially admitting their workmanship was incorrect and a failure. Again, while this was nice (and if done correctly the first time we would have never had these problems) it does not ultimately solve the problem. Water is still underneath the PVC material and soaking into our particleboard and plywood. We have simple plastic up as a ceiling right now and each time we freeze and thaw, water droplets come down from the seams and nails. Unfortunately we can't afford to continue fighting with Chet's with a lawyer. So the big company won this time. We will redo our flat roof some time this summer. We just hope people stay away from Chet's Roofing.
Description of Work: We had a leaking torch down section of our flat roof that Chet's replaced with a PVC material according to their bid. The installation failed as it let water under the material at the border and continued to leak in our home after we re-did the ceiling drywall. Chet's Roofing would not replace their poor work. They were defensive and non-responsive when asked to honor their warranty. We had to hire a lawyer to write letters to Chet's Roofing just to get them to respond. After several letters Chet's responded and was compelled to hire an independent consultant who found the work to be faulty. Please see our story below and save yourself a lot of money, time and agony and choose a different roofing company.

I had noticed a roof area of about 10'x10' that had sagged, and had determined this was due to 2-3 roof rafters that had sagged and/or twisted. To properly correct this problem required the removal of the roofing and sheathing in that area so I contracted with Chet's roofing to replace the sagging roof rafters and correct the structural faults (i.e. bracing and blocking) that had permitted the problem to occur. Because it was necessary to remove part of the roofing, I decided to replace the entire roof and gutters. Since the existing venting didn't meet modern venting guidelines, I requested they replace the existing 3 square "turtle" vents with ridge venting. When the roofers first came out, they removed the existing roofing. They then removed the sheating in the failed area, but rather than replacing the failed rafters, they scabbed 8 foot 2x4s to three of the ~16 foot 2x6 rafters and replaced the sheathing and roofed over. I had been clear with the Chet's estimator that I expected two or three rafters needed to be replaced and had even drawn up a diagram for the roofers (and handed it to them) of what I expected to be done with specific roof rafters marked for replacement. Before the roofers left I pointed out that I had requested the gutters to be removed at the same time, but they refused. (I had intended to refurbish and repaint the 50 year old facias between gutter removal and reinstallation of the gutters.) I contacted Chet's to point out the unsatisfactory nature of the rafter repairs and that the gutters hadn't been removed (as I had requested from the beginning with the estimator). They were very accommodating and sent a crew of 2 carpenters out to fix the roof rafters (which required the tearoff and reroof of a section of just installed roofing) and a guy to remove the gutters. After I completed the facia renovation, I called Chet's back to have the new gutters installed. Two guys came out and installed the gutters. Most of the work was eventually acceptably completed, but some mostly costmetic deficiencies remain: * The ridge vent installation isn't straight. This is visible to the naked eye from the ground. * The ridge vent was not nailed at every point specified by the manufacturer. This is not significant since the cap shingles are nailed through the ridge vent and make it secure, but it is an installation error which probably contributed to the fact it isn't straight. * Gable flashing (x3) was not replaced and does not match the other flashing. * When the gutters were installed, I stressed (at the beginning and the end) that I expected them to always slope to the downspouts. Two corners of the gutters are low, one collecting about a half inch of water and the other over 1 inch. Since these deficiencies are mostly cosmetic, I have not pursued any further repair or remediation. I have no complaints with the professionalism of the roofers, carpenters, or other workers, but their finished product (and the fact I had to call them back to correct mistakes) doesn't rate more than a C for Quality.
Description of Work: Replacement of 2-3 warped/bent roof rafters, replace sheathing in affected area, reroof with removal of "turtle" vents and installation of ridge venting. Remove gutters and replace with new.

We contracted with Chet's Roofing to repair a leak in our roof under an attached trellis. This required removing the trellis and replacing it after repairs were finished, removing approximately 300 square feet of roofing and replacing rotten sheeting as needed, and installing a torch-down roofing system over the repair area. Because this took place during the November rains, work had to be postponed several times, but the company scheduler was efficient in notifying us of these delays. In the end, the workers came out to finish the job over a weekend. All in all, we were very satisfied with the company and its work.

I did not choose Chet's to do the work because they were a little more expensive than the excellent roofer I chose. But I wanted to give Chet's good marks for their high level of professionalism. Their bid helped me figure out questions I needed to ask competitors who initially provided less comprehensive bids. Chet's was less expensive than most of their competitors, so (assuming my experience was typical) you could safely choose Chet's if you want a simpler process than the one I used. I chose to have quite a few roofers come and look at my roof, asked lots of questions, and looked at lots of bids.

Windows were leaking day before work was done. Had to call them 4 different times to make windows stop leaking. Finally solved the problems a week.and a half after roof was finished. I was told they would begin work on a friday and did not return for 4 days later to finish the job which was to pit gutter up. In the mean time my windows were leaking and during much heavy rain and wind storms shed which is located next to my porch was soaked with rain water due to the gutters not being installed in a timely manner.

My real estate agent demands perfection from vendors, so when he referred me to Chet's Roofing, I expected nothing less. Our roof had lost some shingles in recent storms and water was coming into our attic. Chet's was out the day after I called to make an inspection and offer an estimate on the spot. I gave the go ahead and two days later I came home to find my roof fixed and an invoice stuck in my door. A few days later after some heavy rains, I crawled up into my attic and was pleased to confirm that there were no leaks. I would use Chet's for roofing work in the future, and I am considering them for some construction and painting.

18 year old roof in dire need of replacing. Interviewed several companies. I had chosen what material I wanted on the roof but price ranged between 10,000 and 20,000. Chet's estimator actually got on roof to measure and inspect. Some didn't. Work was started promptly and completed on time. I had requested certain cosmetic specifications that were not done on completion but were resolved the very next day.

Overall, they arrived prompt and on-time to our meeting for the appraisal. However, for the remainder of our "interaction" it was difficult to get in touch with them. The appraisal received was completely out of our price range, and no alternative plan was provided to us at a lower cost.
Description of Work: We requested an estimate/appraisal for a leaky roof. Upon inspection, they advised us to get an entire roof remodel, which would have cost around $8-15,000. This was not anyway near our budget. Suffice it to say, we requested a repair of the roof, instead of an entire remodel, however, they did not feel that was in our best interest to do that service for us. We paid them for their opinion/appraisal/advice, however, we chose a different company for our actual remodel (Northwest Roofing) and accomplished the partial remodel/repair of only the damaged roofing tiles, and did not need to replace the entire roof, which cost us significantly less.

I developed a leak on Sunday night and on Monday checked Angie's List for a local roof person and called Chet's and asked for someone to come out and give me an estimate for repairs. A person was dispatched that day and I met them at my home. The estimator went on the roof and, when he came down about 10 minutes later, told me he had fixed the problem and that it would cost me $225 plus tax for the service call. I stated that I was not aware there was a service call fee that I had not been told about it. I asked, since I owed for an hour of time already, if he could fix the other vents like the one he supposedly fixed. He said "no". He gave me an invoice and left. I called the office to find out what the deal was and was told the owner would phone me right back. Move to the next day, today. The rains came again last night and guess what, the roof still leaks. The owner just phoned me back and said to "forget paying the bill", he will just erase it. I asked if he would send me something to show I did not owe the invoice and he said "no, I'm not spending any more time on you". I have no idea how they are getting such good ratings on Angie's List if this is any example of their skill in repair work and customer service. Definitely won't use them again.

In regards to this complaint...We strive for 100% satisfaction every time for every customer. We pulled a technician off of job to drive 1 hour out of their way to take care of this leak due to the fact that is was pouring rain and we felt bad for her. Once you take into account the drive time, technicians labor, materials and gas, we do not feel that this is unreseaonable regardless of how long the repair takes. Furthermore, since we could not seem to satisify her requests we told her that the repair that we did would be free of charge.

Good customer service experience from start to finish. Initially I was unimpressed with the estimator, but once he got up on my roof, assessed it for himself, he then printed out a detailed estimate and was eager to complete the job. Also, I was busy at work the week I set up the install, office staff did a great job going above and beyond to ensure I could get on schedule just as quickly as possible. The roof is a small easy job and it went well. My nosy next door neighbor "project managed" as I was not home, he too felt they did solid work.
Description of Work: Small home roof replacement. Had gotten estimate from Chet's and a few other companies almost a year earlier. Chet's seemed the most reasonable in price, and inclusive in materials, warranties for the price. Great customer service on the phone's, Chet was able to honor the original estimate and came out to my property prior to the install to check access for materials as I do not have a driveway. I wanted Energy Star shingles, they had them in stock. Install in one day with clean up. Received walk thru after install for satisfaction of services. Only surprise was that in removing my skylights there was unexpected debris in my home and some minor damage to the drywall on inside of skylights.

While demoing the finished attic for remodel we discovered there was *NO* chimney flashing on our chimney. This had let water in and molded behind the sheetrock. Thankfully we were pulling it all out, but while we had it all open we needed to get this chimney reflashed ASAP. One contractor came out and spent 20 minutes trying to talk me into doing it myself (if I had time for that I'd have just done it). Another contractor blew off the estimate when I missed his call by 20 minutes (I was on a ladder installing windows). Jerry from Chet's however simply showed up on time, when promised and delivered his quote. His was the highest of three I received, but I went with him because: 1) They show up. On time. 2) They explain the work they will be performing, in detail. 3) They were able to make it out later that same week to do the work they estimated. This dry weather is unusual and won't last forever, we needed this job done before the autumn rains start again. Jerry said the work would be done on Friday. I called him early in the day to get a rough timeframe so someone could be home. He said "After 2PM". Bill called at 2:10PM to say he was on his way and was working on our chimney by 2:30PM. He finished in just an hour or two. We can no longer see daylight up from underneath, and looking at the work, it looks need and trim now. Only now that we have proper step, counter and roof flashing can I see how obviously deficient the old stuff was. While not the cheapest, Chet's demonstrated to me that the wanted my business, knew how to communicate, and could provide their services quickly and without hassle... so I feel like I at least got good product, service and experience for the money I spent.

Workers arrived promptly and got to work. My neighbors commented that I must have been cracking the whip because they were all working so hard. They finished the roof in 3 days. It looks great and they did an awesome job of cleaning up after themselves. Highly recommend them. I am not getting an estimate from them for some new gutters.
Description of Work: Replaced our shake roof with composite
