We had a problem show up with the washer and kitchen drains. It has been growing for a while and finally needed to get fixed. We called another company and they were 2 weeks to get to us. I called Beacon and set the appointment for the next day. Jeff M. , journeyman, and Israel, apprentice, showed up and got right to work. They determined what to do, informed my wife of the cost, as she was the one home, and once approved got right to it. I got home and had a few questions etc. and Jeff did a great job explaining what was being done and some work we might need to do in the future. They finished up, everything works great, better than it has in years. The cost was exactly the quoted number. My wife and I talked and easily determined when we are ready to get the rest of the work done we will be calling Beacon and requesting Jeff M. to be the one to do the job for us.
Description of Work: Fixed a clogged and poorly designed drain for the washer and the dishwasher.

Our central A/C stopped working during the recent heat wave. Called Beacon Plumbing and was able to schedule a same day appointment, on a Saturday to boot. Was given a 5-7pm window and the team arrived late at 7:40pm. However within 2 minutes they knew what was wrong replaced the faulty part and had our A/C going within a half hour if their arrival. Team was courteous and explained what they were doing. Service fee was $75 to have them out and I used a coupon for $50 off a service call and another $10 off for giving a food donation. Total bill came to just over $360 plus change. Felt that it was a reasonable amount for the new part and the service. Would definitely use Beacon Plumbing again.

The supply hose to the dishwasher was leaking. Based on advertising, our house sitter called Beacon Plumbing. They were prompt and diagnosed and fixed the problem but not before they tried to up-sell her for a bunch of services that were not needed. She told them she was not the home owner and could not authorize additional services. She was not familiar with costs for plumbing repairs so she agreed to pay $575 for the repairs. After she paid the bill for about 45 minutes of work and two new supply hoses, she got to thinking about how expensive it was. She contacted Beacon and complained. They agree to refund $88. The $88 check arrived three months later. Such a deal! I guess they have to pay for all that advertising somehow. When we got home, I contacted Beacon and asked them how much it would cost to replace a dishwasher supply hose. They work off a "flat rate" fee schedule that includes all parts and labor so I figured that they could easily give me an estimate. They quoted me a price of "about $200". It appears to me that they were taking advantage of our house sitter who was unfamiliar with plumbing and how simple this job should have been. Very unprofessional if you ask me!

I'm sorry your experience with Beacon was not as pleasant as either of us would have hoped, [Member name]. Nevertheless, your feedback is much appreciated. We are currently updating our check issuing process so future checks will not be sent out after such a delay. Furthermore we're reviewing policies with our dispatch team to remind them of our policy to not give quotes over the phone. It can be confusing for the customer and without us actually being there it can be very difficult to give an accurate quote. I'm sorry for the frustration you experienced. Please excuse our mistakes and we will do the best we can in the future to make sure this sort of thing doesn't happen.

Beacon came to my home to give an estimate to repair my gas furnace. It was only blowing cold air. Beacon repairman said blower motor & circuit board no longer worked and needed to be replaced . Estimate showed Circuit Board $565 & Blower Motor $577 Quote of $1,142.00 . Nothing was noted for travel, labor nor sales tax and we were told it would be "added later". I knew blower motor worked that morning so he was sent on his way with a check for est. I checked the furnace after he left and a fuse was pulled out and was sitting on top of the furnace.... I called a different company, he took the fuse off the top of the furnace, put it back in and confirmed that removing the fuse had disabled the motor that blows the air. The new repairman replaced the Circuit Board and the total charge was $265.84 tax, trips, parts & labor included. I contacted Steve at Beacon who refused to refund the $75.00 I was charged for the estimate even after I told him what the repairman had done and deceitful estimate I was given! I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Better Business Bureau contacted me and said Beacon Plumbing Heating & Mechanical Inc had failed to respond....

[member name removed], We appreciate you taking the time necessary to bring this to our attention. It's unfortunate your experience with Beacon Plumbing was not a pleasant one. Hopefully we can learn from your review to do better in the future. While there is a first time for everything, the plumber we sent to you has a perfect record and many years with us. Until your review surfaced, he has never been accused of sabotaging a job for more money. Either way, we will make him aware of this review. The $75 service fee wasn't refunded because our technician did was the fee was meant to cover. He drove out to the location, assessed the problem, and provided a solution. Like I had initially stated, I am sorry your experience with us was not a favorable one. If we ever get a second chance, hopefully we can provide a better experience than what you initially received. Please feel free to respond with any additional questions. Thank you, [member name removed]. Take care. Kasen

sSpent most of the time talking; I was panicked because water was shooting out of an exterior pipe and running down the alley, and I am new to the area and don't know anyone to call (and I didn't know where the shut off wa- turned out he had to turn off the whole house, at the street, because he couldn't find it either. I've found it since). Total complete sham. All it needed was a connection needed to be re-hooked up and sealed. I wish I had checked online reviews first.

They were very courteous and very polite. When they were waiting for the room to warm up to see if heater was working right, he actually looked over a separate heater in the house and he saw some things to do with that. It was all free of charge. It was a very good advice.

Outside faucet snapped off inside the wall. I already had the pipes in the wall exposed and all the parts for the new faucet. Most of this stuff I do myself, but I could not get the existing solder to liquefy on the T to replace the snapped line. I finally broke down and called a professional. Brom, the technician who came out and was very prompt and professional. If I ever used this company again, it would only be because of this technician. The total job took about 20 minutes at the most to complete (maybe 5 to 10 minutes of actual repair time), I had everything ready to go (even the fire proof cloth in place to begin soldering, which they used and loved). The downside of this service was the price, 323.57 after tax. I really thought this was extremely excessive for the amount of work completed and maybe even taken advantage of after the job was done and the price started to sink in. In summary, the service was A+, maybe the price was my fault for not calling around first.

Called Beacon Plumbing as water leak discovered in the evening in pipe from water tank to hydronic heating system pipe and was causing water damage to sheet rock. Hydronic heating system requires specialty person to work on it and Beacon advertises as able to work on these systems. Plumber came and replaced leaking flexible pipe with copper pipe at a cost of $125. Told us that other flexible pipe could also go so we said to replace it too as didn't want more water damage after we get sheet rock fixed. They were going to sent someone out the next morning to give an estimate to move water tank so contractor could remove wet sheet rock and replace it. Also had to unscrew braces on the wall holding hydronic sytem up so sheet rock could be replaced. Requires someone who knows how hydronic system works. Next morning plumber came out and we also discovered that there was still a leak at the join of the new copper pipe. Second plumber gave us the estimate and tried to tighten connection that was still leaking. He had trouble with tighteneing and it required a lot of turnings and reefing on the pipes with wrenches. Finally got it stopped. Was going to return the following week, on Tuesday, to remove the water tank for sheet rock contrator. Got up the next morning and hot water pilot light had gone out so called and they had to walk me through lighting it. Plumber apologized that he may have caused this when he was here. He arrived Tuesday morning to start removing the tank and informed me that the tank was 9 years old and had rust on the top so needed to be replaced. Not knowing any different and now without water or hot water I said to replace it, which now doubled the cost quoted. Another leak had also been discovered at the top of the mixing valve just up from where he had been reefing on the leaking joint. Now told me it was not their fault the mixing valve was leaking and needed to be replaced for $584 and hydronic sytem won't work without it. Didn't know what to do so decided to have it replaced but I said they had made it leak, not me, just to reinfoce that I did not agree with him on this Once sheet rock was replaced the second plumber returned and said he didn't know the hydronic system so was going to call someone who did (they advertise that they can all work on this type of system???). Another arrived and said hydronic system needed to be flushed due to work done for $476 or we could get Legionnaires Disease from water in the system. Two plumbers started arguing over how to install expansion tank and now it sticks straight up over the tank, not laying sideways as old one and no earthquake straps as old one had. Also took water tank off of the table it had been sitting on and put it directly on the cement floor. I have been told from another plumber that was here that that should never have been done. Once they got everything put back and hooked up they left and we discovered there was no hot water and turns out they forgot to turn on the new $584 mixer valve that puts the hot water in the sytem. I wonder if they even did the flush out of the system as that was suppose to be done with hot water and if mixing valve not on then how did they do the flush out? All in all this was a horrible experience and I have tried to talk to them but with no luck in getting some reduction in this bill or concerns addressed. Please don't anyone use this company as so many things they did wrong, upcharged for and the "qualified" staff is questionable.
Description of Work: Our hydronic heating system had a leak at the join of a flexible pipe to the mixing valve so this needed to be fixed and then the hot water tank had to be moved so another contractor could replace wet sheet rock behind the tank and on the wall where damage from the leak was.

We were definitely not happy with that experience. We called them out for the job because we have a blockage at our rental home and so we got them out there and they did, they worked for an hour so I don't know, they charged us for about $800.00 and they did not solved the problem. And then, to continue to look for a drain clean out, you know another access to the sewer line, they said it would basically gonna cost us for another $800.00 and that's why we said, no thank you and my husband ended up doing the work and solving the problem. They were definitely responsive.

We will review the invoice. The recommendation to install a clean out was made so in the future if you have problems with the line it will be much easier to clear the line. If you price shop installing a clean out you'll find that the price you were quoted to be competitive. Often when an attempt to clear the line is made but is not totally successful, a subsequent effort to clear the line will be successful because of the prior effort.

BRENT C answered the phone with a cheerful and reassuring attitude that they would be there as soon as they finished another job. At 4pm they arrived and knew right away what the problem was and how to fix it. They gave me written price which I assume was fair for the task. They went to work right away and jackhammered and worked a few hours (on Valentines Day). Brent sent his partner home to be a Valentine and he finished the job himself in the evening.. Clean up was good too. I did stop freakin and glad I called Beacon and BRENT C.

This repair would normally take me about one hour to do all by myself (at the most). They sent 2 people who took 2 hours for this simple repair. (my knees would not allow me to get down on the floor). I have done this many times in the past. The price is ridiculous. I would also like to mention that my brother used this company a couple of months ago (it's 3/2/14 today) and they installed a hot water tank for $2,100.00. Ever since then the water pressure is very low and it takes a lot longer to get to the hot water. Bad quality and overpriced.

You should have been given the price to do the work before any work was started so there should have been no confusion what the cost of work would be. We bill on a flat, fixed rate, not on a time and material basis so the fact there were two people there for two hours did not affect the price. If your brother needs an explanation or clarification as to his billing, he can contact us at 800-373-2546 at his convenience.

9-1-13 Beacon Plumbing was called on Labor Day/Holiday weekend to unclog a sewer line that was backing up into the tub; the technician attempted to snake main line both thru toilet & outside clean-out valve; he was unable to clear the line. Technician noted on invoice, "snaked main line thru outside clean-out, not draining." ...... in spite of their stated practice of never leaving with the line plugged.....he did. Needless to say, we were billed $765. and it was put on a credit card. Another service company was called in to remedy the problem & with the correct equipment they were able to do so; their charge was nearly $200. less than Beacon Plumbing. This resulted in two charges/ bills to fix one problem. And for the next 5 plus weeks the following interactions occurred: 9-6 & 9-13 Two follow-up calls to Beacon Plumbing were made to discuss our dissatisfaction & request a refund; we were told Steve would return our initial call on 9-6; one week later on 9-13 the second call was placed after the initial call was never returned. We requested a full refund for the charge , since they did not fix the problem. 9-17 Steve proposed a "compromise" ....refunding 50% of the bill and he noted "not as an acknowledgement as to the validity of your request for a full refund". 9-20 We accepted his offer of the 50% refund to our credit card & asked for confirmation of this. We never received the credit or confirmation. One week later (9-26) we again inquired about the credit/confirmation we had not yet received; we suggested a check be sent to our mailing address (provided) instead. Steve confirmed the check would be sent out "in the next week". 10-7 Another week passes; another email to Steve asking for confirmation of the date the check was mailed or credit was posted to our credit card. Response was "the accounting dept. would be mailing the check out today". 10-10 Another email was sent to Steve, stating we were having difficulty understanding why 3 weeks had passed since his compromise offer had been made......and yet no check or credit. 10-11 Email from Steve, stating "if you don't receive the check by Saturday (10-12) he would have the check stopped & re-issued by Mon.10-14, (a postal holiday) 10-11 We asked for confirmation of the address to which the check had been "sent".....surprise......it had been sent to the "wrong" address (the rental property & place of service in Seattle, instead of to our mailing/billing address provided to them on 9-26) 10-14 Next....A 50 mile drive for us to "pick-up" the check from the tenant @ the rental property; the tenant rec'd the envelope on 10-12; postmark on envelope was dated 10-09; the letter accompanying the check was dated 10-05; It took from 9-20 to 10-14 for us to receive the check; the property is only 14 miles away from Beacon Plumbing's Kent business. 10-15 We cashed the "settlement refund" check ( 50% of total bill) Contrary to the "fully satisfied" wording used by Steve in his comments on this Angie's List posting, we cashed the "settlement check in the amount of a 50% refund" because we needed to minimize our losses. Customer service is really what it's all about and what encourages customers to choose to return or NOT!! Obviously the "words" from Steve in "Customer Relations" and the delayed follow-thru of 5 weeks were examples of customer service at it's worst!!

I had a not terribly good experience with them. It was a bit of an emergency. Their price just seemed ridiculously high. They did the job, and the disposal worked. There was nothing wrong with that. I kind of thought I was gouged with the price. They were fine when they were here. They were punctual. I actually called about the pricing and the response I got was that they told me that that is what they charged.
Description of Work: I had a garbage disposal installed in my kitchen by Beacon Plumbing Heating & Mechanical Inc.

In responding to your review for work done 3 years ago, I can only ask if you were given written notice of the price before the work was authorized to go forward? If you were, then you had the choice to authorize the work to be done or have another company quote the work. Our prices are not the most expensive for the Puget Sound area nor are they the cheapest.

The sewer line was not flowing properly because of settling of the house foundation. Beacon's people corrected this problem. It was a difficult project. Also, they brought in contractor to clean up the mess in the basement, including bathroom. The cleanup included removing carpet and some wallboard. It was very expensive and time-consuming, but the customer service was excellent. The leadman was named Tom L. and his customer service skills are excellent. It appears they did excelletn work.
Description of Work: Responded to sewer line emergency.
