Alki Fence Co

I tried contacting this company twice to get an estimate to replace existing fencing. I got no reply whatsoever.

I called previously and didn't get response. I then posted a request for pricing on Angiie's list message board about a complete tear down and replacement. They got in touch with me the next day and we scheduled their appt. I had previously gotten other estimates and their estimate was $1000 cheaper then the other estimates. We scheduled the project immediately. The came out the first day and removed old fence and placed posts in concrete. The next day they finished the fence. It looked really great....A couple of weeks ago we noticed one of the horizontal board started to bow out toward our neighbors yard. Left a message on the Angies list message board about the problem. Within 2 days the board was replaced. I recommend them as great fencing contractors. I also love the message board as the perfect way to communicate. Everyone has verification.

Alki is a family-owned business (I think the father and son are the principals). Minh, the father came to the house to give us an estimate. I told him that half of the fence was undamaged, and that I just wanted him to match it and replace the other half. He said that that couldn't be done because "they don't make those pickets any more." When I pointed out that, with a piece of wood and a table saw, you could make any kind of picket that you wanted, he said that it would cost more to replace half of the old fence than to erect a whole new one. I gave in (mistake!) Then he told me that I should have 48" pickets. I said NO, I wanted the pickets to be the same size as the old ones (42"). He said that 48" ones were better. Now, I know that pickets come in a standard length of 48" and that would be better FOR HIM because he wouldn't have to cut them. I insisted on 42" pickets and he finally agreed. The day the installation crew arrived, I asked if they were going to measure everything and set the posts in concrete that day. I was told that they would do the entire installation that day. Maybe something has changed, but I have never had a fence built in one day. Concrete has to set up at least overnight (unless there is some new, fast-setting product out there). At any rate, the fence was erected in a very short time and the crew left. When the crew was ready to leave, I tried to give them a check in payment, and was told that they couldn't accept it because "The boss (Minh) will come and pick it up." The next day, my wife noticed that in some places the pickets were actually touching the ground, while in other places there was a fair amount of clearance (our lot is relatively flat). I measured a bunch of the pickets and discovered that they varied in length from 41" to 44". Minh came out to the house several days later to pick up the check. I complained about the pickets and showed him the discrepancies. He told me that the variation was necessary because the ground was uneven. I asked why some pickets were actually embedded in the soft soil and others were well above it. He said that was so that our small dog couldn't get out. I still had the payment check and told him that I would not pay him until he made this right. He agreed to have his crew come out and trim all the pickets to 41'. They showed up the next day and tried to trim the pickets with a Sawzall, which only shredded the wood. After several butchered attempts, somebody came up with a circular saw and did the job adequately. I paid them and they left. Now, the fence. Cedar, but very cheap, very rough-sawn. A thoroughly inferior product compared to my old fence. We have had it for less than a month and knots are already beginning to fall out, leaving holes in the pickets. I had to have a contractor come out to perform some other work that required removal of one section of the fence and the contractor's employees were commenting on the shoddy quality of the fence work. Credit where it's due, after all was said and done, Alki forgave the tax on the bill, thus giving us about a 10% discount for our unhappiness. I have to admit that I was in a hurry to get the fence replaced, I had two recommendations from credible sources, and had other contractors coming to do major work. I needed this done ASAP, and I missed the warning signs--and this ain't my first rodeo, folks. Don't let it happen to you.

Minh came out and did the initial bid on time and as scheduled. After reviewing multiple bids, we decided to go with Alki Fence so we called to confirm. Duke called us to confirm service and finalize the date they would install - which was less than a week after the initial bid! They arrived on time and did a great job with installation and cleanup. I have to add that there was a miscommunication on the type of top we wanted on the fence. Duke immediately came out the same day when the crew left and inspected, and scheduled his crew to come back and add the top promptly and within the quoted price. We are SO happy with the completed fence and would highly recommend them.

I asked Alki ot come out and provide an estimate, while the were great about getting someone out there the bid never materialized. There was promise of a bid the next day. I waited and then left a message. Since then I've emailed and called, even spoken directly with someone who promised he would send it out that day. Even if Alki come back with a decent bid i probably wouldn't go with them. Anyone who can't be bothered to do a bid when they promise doesn't convince me they're going to do the work they claim. Don't waste your time.

They guys did a GREAT job tearing out the old fence. It was a very hard job and while the boards on the fence were rotten enough to come off easy, the "beams" that old fence was sitting on were tied together by rebar and other metal and they had tough time removing them and they were VERY heavy (oil soaked). They impressively worked through it and got the old fence removed, even along a raised flower bed area. Once that was done the new fence (cedar board-on-board) went up very quickly. The final product looks great and now I have two working gates (instead of one rotten one and one missing one). Thanks guys for the hard work...more than you expected at first, but great job!

The December 2014 wind storms destroyed my back yard fence. After checking around for someone to replace the fence, I settled on Alki Fence Company. Minh, one of their estimators, was quick to respond and made an appointment to give me an estimate. The estimate was for replacement of 80 feet of fence and the installation of a gate so that the neighbors and myself could visit. After a $50 senior citizen discount the total for the fence was $2,567.05. This seemed fair and so I/we (my neighbor) gave him the go-ahead. On schedule, the first crew arrived and removed the old fence and placed the treated posts in concrete. The next day the install crew showed up and went to work on the fence. They finished the same day doing a really nice job of installation. Friendly and prompt, I give Alki Fence a top rating!

Duke was very responsive to my calls and specifications of the projects. His crew was very polite, professional and quick. The project had it's challenges because of a large tree in the fence's path and the sloping landscape. Duke and his crew responded quickly and professional when I was not initial happy with the end product; they work a little later and made the changes to meet my specifications. Really, that's all I ask of a contractor; give me what I asked for the the price we agreed to. Alki Fence was the lowest bidder and I'm happy with their work. We highly recommend them and will use them in the future.

The company gave me a quote. We set a date for the work to be performed. They came and did the work and finished the next day. The fence looks great and the quote was what was billed.

He was very good at communicating with me and was very professional when he came out to do the estimate. He ran into traffic on the way but called me to let me know. He was friendly and fair. When his crew came, they were on time. It only took them three hours to do the job, and I thought it was going to take a full day. The fence looks great. I would definitely recommend Alki Fence Company!

Our fence fell over in the wind storm and we needed it replaced asap. We were able to pay overtime and have them come on a Saturday. They demo'd and put up 125+ft of fence in ONE day! Arrived on time and were friendly. We have a funky transition between fence lines and they made it look better than I imagined. They did a wonderful job!

Emailed him twice but never had the courtesy of a response.

My fence got damage by the wind strom and needed some repair. I called and they sent someone right away. Thank you for the quick response and work.

Have not been able to get him to respond to inquiry about bid. I am surprised he would actually come out to look at the job site but not submit a bid. He may be good at what he does, I don't know because I was never given the opportunity to find out.

Alki Fence Company sent someone out to give us an estimate on fence repair on a very short-notice request. They worked us in, so we could get the work done before our move date. We needed about eleven posts replaced along our cedar fence, gates tightened up, plus a light pole secured due to leaning. They showed up promptly to do the estimate, and again to do the work. They got all repairs done to our satisfaction. My husband and I were very happy with the work and the price. We would definitely recommend Alki Fence Company to anyone, and we would definitely use them, again.

It was a decent experience. They showed up on time. The owner was willing to make adjustments to make sure the job was done correctly. The final work was done close to my satisfaction.

I scheduled for Alki to come out and give me an estimate. They showed up over 2 hours late and just left their business card in the door jam. I sent several emails to try and set up the estimate. I never got a response so ended up calling almost a week later. I tried contacting Alki again to reschedule an estimate and I never heard back. I ended up going with a different fence company that responded immediately to my requests/questions.

Poor professionalism. They did not do what they said they would. They said estimate by Saturday and could do the work the following week. Never heard from them again.

We had a new fence on a house that we purchased in 2005 and some of the back yard fence posts were done with untreated lumber and completely rotted out at the ground level leaving the fence leaning at a couple of spots in the back yard. We also had some rotted out wood in some slats that line our neighbors yard that we also wanted replaced. I called three companies, Alki Fence, All City and Emerald City. All City suggested I had to re-do the entire fence for just over $5,000 insisting the whole fence was done on the cheap and that the whole thing will go in the next 5 years so cost benefit he recommended a whole new fence (I disagreed and moved on). Emerald City's estimator was five weeks out from even giving me an estimate so I declined them. So I went with Duke and Alki Fence and overall I'm pleased. Alki replaced the rotted fenceposts seamlessly and completely redid the sections of our front yard giving us a new fence in that area. There was a bit of a hiccup in scheduling but their excuse was reasonable (truck broke down) and they were there at my house right on time for the reschedule. The new standing posts are made with treated lumber and I would think I should get at least another 10 years out of the since until I do need a new one. I would hire Alki again.

This company doesn't do what they say. Wen it's time to get a bid, and they don't follow up, why would you give them a job? After a month I still have not received a quote. They were going to show up about 3 weeks ago, but never heard back from them. Don't waste your breath with Alki Fence.

Alki Fence in Kent. They did an excellent job. They arrived promptly at the time that they promised. They were very careful in terms of their work. They did very good clean up. They hauled away the old fence. The job that they did was a very good job. The workmen were very good. I think that their bid was a better bid than an another company that I got a bid from by several hundred dollars. I would recommend them and I would use them again. The estimator's name was Duke and he was very, very nice, very polite. I was very impressed with his accuracy in the estimate. He wasn't trying to oversell me anything more than I needed. I only had 2 bids and his price was better than the other person.
