Alki Fence Co

I arranged to have Duke come out for an estimate. First red flag is that Duke provides a business card without his last name. Duke was friendly enough, but I had a weird vibe throughout the time he spent on my property--dead fish handshake and not giving me eye contact when talking... I told him my neighbor also might be interested in getting their fence re-done, and he was adamant that he wanted to go on their property to measure as well. Duke told me I'd get my estimate that night via email, but no email arrived. Five days later, no email. I finally emailed Duke and asked him what was up, and an estimate arrived the next day. The price was on the low range of other estimates I received. I emailed Duke again to ask a couple questions about pricing with additional work, and he never responded. I went with someone else.

Alki fence came as most reasonable bid. They finished their work in four days including Saturday. They worked hard in rain. Cleaned my property as if nothing has happened. Fence looks just like the one before. Very happy with the way they worked and it turned out. They don't remove the old post base. As all the companies do, they cut the post and leave the cement there. They will dig the hole at different area and put the posts. They are very responsible and kind folk. I noticed the cedar slats are not as thick as they used to be. But this is not their fault. That's the way it is made nowadays.

I would highly rate them. Their quality, service and cleanliness were great. They were on time and the price was a little bit more than what we had thought but it was fine. They had absolutely fabulous gates. The fence was rock solid and well built.

We needed a new fence on the back side of my property. We called Alki Fence and they came out in a day or so for a fence estimate. Wrote the estimate on the spot. I scheduled the work and it was done. This was great service throughout and very easy to work with. Love the new fence that's been put up. I will call them back when I'm ready to do my other side fence. Would recommend them to anyone who need any fencing work.

He looked around and measure the fence line. He said he would send us (neighbor and us) an estimate. We gave him e-mail address ( mine was typed on a piece of paper), but neither of us never received anything..

They were incredibly efficient, building 120 feet of fence in just 2 days! Everything went very smoothly, they understood what we wanted and everything went according to plan. The fence still looks great and we were happy with the service!

Alki Fence arrived when promised, removing the old fence and setting the posts on the first day. The panels and gates were installed on the second day. They cleaned up both days. While the overall result is ok, we were a bit disappointed with a number of things: Every panel is a different size -- they made no attempt to evenly space the posts. Two posts are slightly out of alignment. Fortunately, they are in places where it isn't glaring. One of the gate latches was poorly installed (one part modified with a hammer) and will probably need to be replaced. One of the horizontal boards on the bottom of a panel was actually touching the patio cement so it absorbed water when it rained. I fixed this myself, since they did not respond to emails. We asked for references for staining the fence, but have had no response.

chose Alki fence when their quote came in $1200 lower than another company. Halfway thru project, they called and said they miscalculated the lot and it would be another $1500. We eventually settled on only $1200 more to match what I was quoted by other company. Fence looks great and they cleared tons of brush expertly. Only other complaint (besides the miscalculation) would be lack of communication when installing a gate (had asked for it a certain way and they changed it without my approval to something I don't really like)

Estimator said I would get an estimate within a day or two. After after three weeks I still hadn't gotten a bid (I checked spam folder). I called office and left message with receptionist two weeks in a row (including my address and phone number) but never got a response.

Duke from Alki came to our home to measure for fencing work that included a swimming pool security fence as well as replacement of yard fencing. We never heard back from him. Angie's List asked us to review their performance on 5/5/14, but I wanted to wait, to give them time to respond. Finally I emailed him to ask if I had lost his pricing, or he had lost my contact information. This was on 5/9/14. I've waited three more days without any contact. At this point I see no reason to continue to try to get an estimate, since I would not trust him or Alki Fence to perform work with the experience I've had.

I was scheduled for work to start a week after I approved the estimate. Alki helpedl to coordinate with two of my neighbors because the cost was shared. The work was done within the week by their pleasant and efficient crew. The fence looks beautiful and I have received numerous compliments from neighbors

This company is fantastic. I trusted the many good reviews already on Angie's list, and was not disappointed. I expected to have to schedule weeks ahead, but the whole process, from bid to build, took less than a week! It was amazing. Everyone was on time to all appointments. The rep was kind and laid back, no pressure to accept the bid or get on the schedule. The installers made one error in the placement of the gate latch and hinges, so that the gate opened the wrong way. But they returned and fixed that within a couple of days of being informed. Love the new fence. Update, a couple of months later: Turned out to be a slight problem with the gate installed. But Alki Fence came and made it right, no questions asked! I am absolutely going to use this company when I replace my side yard fence.

The fence looks fine - they know what they are doing. The gate is great, no complaints about the work. We shared the cost of the job with our neighbour who shared the fence. However, when the job was done, they nailed in their bright red advertisement plate on my side of the fence - note, this is not some unobtrusive place where passer bys can find out who erected this fence but was facing MY PROPERTY. We would be the only people who could see it - and we KNOW who erected the fence - why advertise to us?? It is HIDIOUS. I have to look at it every time I am in my garden. I would of course remove it myself - if they had screwed it in, it might be possible to unscrew it, but they NAILED it and it is beyond me to pull it off without damaging the fence. When I called to ask them to remove it, I left my number, but no follow up. Disappointing.

It went as scheduled and looks terrific!

Overall, it was a positive experience, the fence well built and the work done professionally and efficiently. The one downside to this company was after the verbal agreement to build the fence, the owner was hard to contact to reaffirm arrangements or other details that needed to be talked over. Left many messages with no return calls. Other than that, the experience was great!

Duke and team are awesome. They put in the posts one day and came back the next day, in the rain and wind, to put up the rest of the fence. They were quick, professional, and within my price range. Duke was a breath of fresh air compared to other fencing companies I have had give me estimates. Honest, quick and good. I can't say enough good things about Alki Fencing. If you have a choice, choose this company. Thanks Duke and Team!

Took about 2.5 hours to complete job. They also took away the old rotten section. Showed good work ethic. No fooling around. Alki Fencing was recommended by Angies List, and confirmed by my old, wrinkled friends at Starbucks. They had work by Alki, and raved about them. I agree. Paul Tomita

After Alki Fence was recommended by my neighbor, I met with Duke to get an estimate on a wood fence and wrought iron railing for my front steps. He was on-time and very friendly so I was hopeful the estimate would be reasonable. Duke told me he'd email me the estimate the next day. After waiting three days for the estimate, I called and left a message. The call was not returned. There are a lot of quality, responsive trades in Seattle. Don't waste your time on a company that can't be bothered to provide good, or in this case any, customer service.

Called to ask if they do minor repair of fences. Was told yes so set up an appointment for Sun morning to see my broken fence rail/panel and provide an estimate. So far no one has turned up or called. Duke called back on Mon. Apparently there was a mix up by the receptionist and they are actually closed on Sun. He fixed a time for Tue, was on time and once the quote was agreed upon got to work right away, since the work involved was minor. He was knowledgeable and provided tips on fence maintenance.

Duke responded to my initial call for an estimate very quickly and came out on a Saturday when it was convenient to me (this is in contrast to Economy Fence who wanted me to take time off from work so they could give me a bid on a weekday only from 11AM to 1PM). I showed him some sketches of the fence I wanted and specific features. He was able to discuss the challenges of the project in detail which provided credibility that the job would be done correctly. Duke provided a competitive bid - I chose him because of his professionalism and the fact that it's a family run business that's been building fences for a long time. He was also able to show me photos of similar projects that his company had completed in the past. The job was completed over two days. The crew showed up on time on both days and was very organized and effective in getting the job done. The crew built the entire fence on-site and the their craftsmanship and attention to detail was noteworthy. The crew never cut any corners, and frequently consulted me where certain aspects of the design might need adjustment to the physical constraints of the property. The end result was the fence I wanted. I would definitely work with Alki Fence again. Great experience and execution. I highly recommend them.

The work was done quickly, and they took away the old materials and cleaned up the space.

I wanted to install a sliding gate to close off a rental property from the back alley, while still allowing access for a car. I called and reached someone (Duke?) immediately. He bid the job at a rate nearly half of a company that I had previously used to do the exact same thing on another house- including the extra trim out job! He was able to schedule me less than a week out. A team of three med arrived right on time, and worked incredibly fast. I wasn't able to supervise the whole project, but when I came back it had been completed as we had discussed. The gate also had a very functional latch. (The prior company I had used wasn't able to figure out a functional solution for the latch aspect of the gate). I was so impressed by every aspect of my experience with Alki Fence. I recommend them and will use them in the future for fence needs.

They were right on time, explained what they were going to accomplish and when. Price was very competitive. Only downside was the freezing weather so some of my plants didn't live through the experience.

I made a change after the crew arrived and it was accommodated smoothly and efficiently. I am pleased and will use this company in the future.

This is a really great Angie's list company, you will be very pleased if you choose this company to build your fence. I hired Alki Fence Co to install 390 feet of 7' wooden fence with lattice top and two gates, the finished product looks great ! This project was done all by e mail with three revisions to the prints, I had to work with Duke this way as we were moving to Seattle in a month and I was not available to personally meet with Duke or supervise this installation. Duke worked excellently through the process and built the fence exactly to the prints I provided. Some trees needed to be trimmed back and this was preformed by Alki fence as-well so, I did not have to hire a landscaper. This company seems to do it all as they will be back to stain the fence the color of my choice when the weather gets warmer. The fence was completed on time and I was very surprised to find the entire fence constructed on move in day. I highly recommend this company and Duke for your next fencing project.
