**DO NOT HIRE SMILE A MILE** If it were possible to give negative stars, I would. My experience with Smile A Mile was nothing short of a disaster. From start to finish, this company displayed a shocking lack of integrity, professionalism, and skill. I hired Smile A Mile for an exterior painting job on my home, only to endure three months of disrespect, inconsistency, and poor workmanship. The project manager (Zach), the office staff (Jessica and Chelsea), the crew foremen, and the owner (Jason), all demonstrated a high level of rudeness, deceit, and unprofessionalism. Smile A Mile will likely respond to this review with some auto generated response saying they tried to make things right, or claim that our home looks great, but that will be another LIE. Unprofessionalism - Inconsistent Scheduling: Work was done sporadically without notice, and communication was nearly impossible. Scheduled work days were nearly always missed, and attempts to reach the company via text, call, or email were ignored. I basically had to beg them to return and finish the job, which they never did. - Property Damage: They caused extensive damage - including breaking three sets of French doors, killing grass (by washing paintbrushes and rags in the middle of the lawn), chipping and scraping new concrete curbing (that they were asked to be mindful of), and leaving trash, cigarettes, and paint stains all around the property. Deceitfulness - Broken Promises: The company repeatedly made verbal promises that were never fulfilled. They refused written communication in an effort to avoid accountability. When the owner (Jason) finally appeared, after over 2 months of radio silence from them despite many contact attempts on our end, he made further false assurances and failed to resolve the issues satisfactorily. He said he could come back himself and do the repairs, but we did not feel at all comfortable allowing Smile A Mile more chances to damage our property. The small discount we agreed upon was insufficient to cover the cost of rectifying their “professional” work and property damage, and we only agreed so we could move on from the nightmare. To add insult to injury, they listed on the final invoice that we had agreed to a discount on a date we had never spoke with them 2 months prior, and put “past due” even though we paid the invoice the same day it was finally sent to us. Poor Workmanship - Inadequate Preparation: Despite assurances of proper sanding, caulking, and preparation, the crew did none of this. We knew our older home was in need of a new coat of paint and asked several times what prep we should do ourselves, and were assured they would handle everything - as they are “professionals”. What a joke. The paint job looks fine from a distance, but patchy up close. They did not sand a swingle surface and instead globbed caulk and paint in peeling spots, making even more work for us to have to go back and repair ourselves. - Sloppy Execution: The team was lazy, missing many spots and taking shortcuts. After several messy work days we were instructed to put blue tape in all the areas that needed correcting for them to fix when they could return. When they finally came back over two weeks later, they removed all the tape but only “fixed” a handful of areas. We were also assured there would be a final walk around to make sure everything was satisfactory. This never happened as the crew snuck away and Zach (the project manager responsible) never answered my texts, calls, or emails again. In summary, Smile A Mile’s service was a disaster from every angle. Save yourself significant stress and money by staying far away from this group of “professionals”.

As mentioned by Smile-a-Mile (Smile) in a response of a previous review, they are a for profit company and their customer service reflects that fact. They painted our house the WRONG color without asking if the color change was okay! I’m putting in as much detail in this review about our point of view so other buyers have the full picture & know how to avoid the disappointment of their investment being completely wrong! We specifically asked Smile for a custom color & they agreed it was doable during the quote process. Their estimator texted us she could do a custom color & would need the paint can. We told her all we had was a picture of the can. We met in person and I asked her if the custom color was doable (BECAUSE we only had a pic of the can). Her exact words were “Yes, absolutely!” They sent us mock ups of our house, which used a stock color from Sherwin Williams (SW). It happened to be the color we got our HOA to approve because the paint chip viewed on the phone was a darker blue similar to the blue we wanted. Colors on a phone can vary a little from the physical paint chips & actual paint colors especially when dealing with diff sheens. That’s why we asked specifically for this custom color. We already knew we loved it! When these mock ups all had the SW stock color on them, we assumed it was a place card for our custom color since Smile would not have the custom color in their system. Paint day came & my husband sent me a picture of the work in progress. The color was completely wrong! I texted the estimator (who ignored my text for hours), then called Smile’s main office. I verified they were using the wrong color & told them to stop work. A couple hours later the painters were still just hanging around our house. Without communication from Smile to us about the color, the painters started working on the trim. We assumed they’d fix the blue when they got it. We had nothing else to go on because no one from Smile would call/text us back. After finishing the trim, the estimator finally responded & told us to “wait for it dry to see the cured color”. Jennifer’s exact words from her text “I understand your concern about the brightness. You specifically requested a deep blue, not a bright blue, and I recognize how frustrating it is to come home to a color you didn’t choose.” “You mentioned earlier that you confirmed the possibility of the specialty color, and I apologize for the unexpected change. I’m aware that paint can look different when wet, but this shade is noticeably off from what you asked for. We will address this discrepancy to ensure you get the exact color you wanted.” There was absolutely no discussion about them not being able to match our custom color or reverting to what THEY call was the backup color. Jennifer now says she told my husband in person that the custom color was not doable from a picture. She also claims he said the SW color they went with could be used as a back up. No. I was on speaker phone when they met until I drove up in the driveway and we finished the conversation in person and never heard him say the SW was okay as back up. Smile is claiming the SW color was defaulted to because it was on all the documents. We thought it was only being used as a place card. They claim it was the color the HOA approved. The HOA is not the customer. If the HOA came back and said no to our color, that would be on us NOT Smile. The HOA approval of the SW color on our end was only to get a darker color for our neighborhood approved because we did not have a paint chip for them. I was able to go to Rodda to get the color I wanted & matched it @ Sherwin Williams. I would have happily done that for Smile if Jennifer had told us they could not match from the picture. We’re not a painting company & would only know WE needed to do that if they’d communicated with us! In the end, this was a miscommunication on Smile-A-Miles part and now they screen our texts/calls and will only make this right if we pay another $3000. We don’t feel that we should have to pay their lack of communication.

If you want your house to look absolutely horrible this is the company for you.The day after painting is when my nightmare started paint was running down the trim, missing in the eves of the house, or just bubbling and flaking off. See photos, this is now 6 months in the works and I have had a repair crew not show up, text messages and emails not answered. Finally had a repair guy show up, told me he couldn't fix the paint, he refused to sand anything saying "I am a painter not a sander". He looked at the paint flaking and said paint cant flake it is like water. I have tried the grievance process, again they will not respond. Legal action will be our only hope. They didn't even clean off the beehives, just painted right over them.

Response from Smile-A-Mile Painting
We always appreciate feedback but would like to clarify a few points regarding the review. We have been in communication with you over the past few weeks and returned to your home a multiple times in attempts to satisfy you. We have addressed your concerns professionally. Unfortunately, pre-existing conditions of bad siding affects the final results. We have documented significant improvements to your home’s appearance with the before and after photos evidenced in our most recent Google Post, which clearly show the quality of our work. It's important to note that your final bill remains unpaid. Despite this, we have made multiple attempts to resolve the issues you mentioned. Your home needs gutters to prevent the moisture from damaging the siding again. We remain committed to providing quality service and finding a resolution that works for both parties. Please contact us directly to discuss this further and resolve the situation. - The Smile-A-Mile Team

Worst painting experience ever! Contract said professional experienced painters, not even close. They had no idea what they were doing. Destroyed my lawn, missed spots right and left, not enough chalking. They lacked any kind of supervision or instruction on how to do the job right. After coming back twice to fix things It’s still not right! I’m so fed up and frustrated with them I would never recommend them and suggest people look elsewhere for any painting needs!

We had scheduled in June to have our house & shed painted in August. I worked with the office staff to update the invoice well ahead of the scheduled painting date. However, we discovered the crew never received the change order. The crew started painting the garage door the wrong color as well the soffits. It was extremely difficult to communicate with the crew as all spoke very minimal English. The only translator, the job foreman, didn't stick around long and was virtually unavailable. In the end, they painted everything the right colors but they left a mess of paint on the yard in many spots as well as leave the garden hoses on the grass rather than put them back where they found them. The biggest pain was the front door. The estimator said the crew would remove hardware, remove the door the from hinges, and sand the door prior to painting - but it didn't happen that way. The crew planned to paint it in place and proceeded to tape off the door hardware. Fortunately my husband stopped them, removed the hardware and lifted it off the hinges so they could paint it. Well, they painted - but didn't sand it before painting as had been promised. While Smile-A-Mile had the lowest bid and a professional estimator - they oversold the abilities of their crew. If only the crew spoke and worked as good as the office staff it wouldn't have been such a headache.

The prep. and painting of the house all went very quick with very few problems, and still looks good six months later. It took a couple of calls to get the job site totally cleaned-up and some final issues addressed. Chris was very responsive and handled the issues personally to make sure that we were satisfied with the resolution.

I want to start by saying the finished product looks great and we are happy with the results. I had a few frustrations: 1. After the estimate we agreed to have the repairs to our home made before painting. They came out to do the repairs as discussed and expressed to me they didn't think they could do all of them and didn't know if they had enough supplies. Turns out they did have enough and were able to fix all the areas but did leave a mess of siding and nails in the yard and on my patio. For as much as we paid for the project I wish they could have cleaned up. I have small children that play in the yard. 2. They started the painting on Thursday and were unable to finish on Friday due to a storm. Which I completely understand, and they called me Friday morning and told me they will wait and see how the afternoon is and said we will give you a call and let you know. I didn't hear by 4pm so I called and they apologized but didn't know if the project would be finished Saturday or Monday. Which either day was fine, I just wanted to know for sure. Just felt like lack of communication. 3. Project was completed on Saturday. We love how it turned out but did not love finding cigarette butts all over the yard and a large wad of dried paint that was tossed up above our retaining wall on our rock slope. This was discovered days later by our dogs and completely shredded.

Description of Work: We had the exterior of a 2-Story home painted. The bid was appropriate and the work done on time. There were a few trouble spots around windows and when I called to ask they take a look, a worker was sent out right away and fixed the small problems I had. My only minor issue was that I would have preferred to use paint from another company and they preferred to keep their supplies coming from Sherwin Williams. I would use them again.
