West Coast Decks did a great job from start to finish. They happily worked through a couple of plan revisions with us, they took care of all of the King County permitting and inspections (even dealing professionally with a very nasty King Co Department of Health employee), removed the old deck and some plants that we had around the old deck, prepped the area, and installed the new Fiberon Horizons deck. They installed the county mandated hand railing that cost extra money but didn't improve the safety or functionality of the deck in any way and did not charge us extra for the parts or the work. The new deck is great. It's a breeze to keep clean and it looks great (and will for a lot longer than a wood deck). All of the seams are very straight and clean, the complex corners are precise, and when they saw something that didn't look right during their final inspection they resolved it promptly. We are very happy and would recommend them to anyone looking for a deck installer.
Description of Work: Removed our existing wood deck, hauled away all of the debris, installed a new, larger composite (Fiberon Horizons) deck.

We had several quotes on our deck and West Coast was not only the best value, it was the most professional. It was complete and attended to all details. They provided access to sided-by-side installed products allowing us to easily chose, color, quality and style. The work was performed expertly and the post job clean-up was complete. It would be difficult to find any fault with the project. We now have a beautiful deck to show off and enjoy.

From the first phone call to get an estimate to the finished decks, we are extremely pleased with West Coast Decks. After consulting with owner, we received a written estimate which clearly specified: how the decks would be built, pricing, and drawings of what the decks would look like when complete. (No other contractor provided this when giving their estimate) The estimate was, by far, the most professional one we received out of five or so estimates from other contractors. It took them a total of five days to tear down, and rebuild the decks. There was a crew of 1-2 during the whole process. They arrived on time and worked steadily each day with professionalism. (We were very impressed!) The foreman checked the work daily. We can also say that any questions we had were promptly answered to our satisfaction. The decks are very solidly built and look beautiful. What else can we say? We definitely recommend them to anyone needing deck work done. We think this is an exceptional company. Thank-you West Coast!

Outstanding. These guys do quality work. Easy to work with. We replaced a second story cedar deck with a composite deck. It looks amazing (too bad I have to wait for better weather). The workmanship is great. Professional. No complaints. You may pay less elsewhere (although their bid was very competitive). But if you want someone who does what they say they will do and are easy to work with, then go with West Coast Decks. I am very satisfied and would recommend to others.

Of the three bids I had on the deck this one and another were very close in price and in quality. I went with West Coast because the language in the contract was more precise and promised the waterproof deck rather than water resistant. Also, the process to get the bid/estimate with West Coast was very impressive. Ron put together a web conference/presentation where we could see what our changes would look like real time in order to make all of the product decisions before providing the final price. The family was even able to gather around the screen and give their input. My recommendation would be to get your request for a pricing in early and sign early. They are very popular (for a reason) and worth the wait. I appreciated that they gave me realistic time frames on when the work could be completed. The deck and stairs were completed as promised, no overages on the price we agreed upon and I'm very happy with the final results. They also did a great job on the cleanup through the entire job, very professional.
Description of Work: Total replacement of deck, stairs, posts, etc. Waterproofed the deck so it doesn't drip below the deck (so we can use the space underneath during the rainy season) and added a gutter system.

Repeat customer. Had West Coast Decks replace my back deck a year ago. Now back to have them replace the front porch to match. Torn down and removed old rotting front porch and replaced with new TimberTech Evolutions decking and powder coated aluminum rail system with pickets. Another excellent job. Thanks!

This is a truly first rate company. Most of my dealings were with Joel. He is very knowledgeable, on time, easy going and not pushy. A real pleasure to work with. He is very realistic about how much time it will take and what to expect. He doesn't sugar coat. I also interacted with his partner, Ron. Ron is more hurried and less focused and I preferred working with Joel. The actual work was done by William Dunwoody. He is very talented, and conscientious. He is a pleasure to work with. He actually commuted daily from Bellingham to Bellevue without complaint. He is very eager to please. The job took almost 2 months to complete. Once the job was started there were no pauses in construction except for severe weather. That is very important to me. There were issues with the hot tub installation and William worked with the hot tub guy to correct the problems. At the completion of the job, I had a list of minor things to correct and they were all done promptly and without resistance. I would highly recommend this company for any deck work. The only negative is that they are very busy so work didn't start until a few months after the quote.
Description of Work: This was a complete teardown and rebuild of a large complicated deck with stairs and hot tub. Also rebuilding of an equipment shed and planters. It also required reengineering a section of deck that was cantilevered off the house joists and had to be supported with a large beam and posts. Deck surfaced with Fiberon Ipe. Rail Solutions did the aluminum and glass railing.

In a word, wonderfully! Ron Spillers met with us, providing excellent advice, suggestions, and guidance which enabled us to visualize a end result we'd be pleased with. And are we ever! His crew was punctual, worked hard, kept the construction area clean, and informed us of their progress as they labored toward completion of the project. We would not hesitate to hire West Coast Decks for a future project, and again thank them for a job well done.

Contact rep was courteous and pleasant. She explained the timeline for available bid visits and construction. Clearly, West Coast Decks is a competent and extremely busy company. The caveat for me was that the bid process included a $75 fee. The representative was clear in letting me know that the $75 would apply to any construction fees if we chose to proceed. I understand the time and effort that a company must put into the bid process. In more than twenty years of home ownership and numerous remodeling (roof, basement, siding, paint, kitchen, bathroom, etc.) I've never been asked to provide a fee for a bid. We use Angie's List to do our homework. If the $75 fee is used to qualify "serious" customers, it's insulting. If it's meant to cover the cost of bidding, then I'd suggest the fee is misplaced. No one from Angie's List is wasting your time or your money. On the Angie's list website, under the heading "Free Estimates", the company writes "ask for details." The details are, no, they do not provide a free estimate. It should be spelled out up front. Others may disagree about the acceptability of the $75 fee. The company clearly does beautiful work. I have no problem paying for the work, but not the bid. Thanks.

Checked Angie's List in my area for top rated deck builders. Based on their very high ratings I decided to call West Coast Decks for a quote. Joel came out and measured the job. He reviewed with me the different types of decking materials available and the approx. costs. He also left me with some material samples. I asked Joel to quote with several different options. In about a week or so, Joel got back to me with a quote. By that time I had already decided that I wanted Azek PVC decking with Trex Transcends railing and LED post cap lighting. Joel revised his quote. The project was then started in a couple of days. The sub contractor that did the actual work was named William. A very hard worker. In pouring rain, snow, and hail, he worked over 10 hours a day without a break. The deck was completed in 4 days. Workmanship is top notch. I love my new low maintenance deck! I highly recommend West Coast Decks.

I scheduled an appointment with Ron in March regarding a bid to rebuild my dilapidated deck. His office scheduled an appointment 5 days later. Ron came out and we talked about how the deck would be used and what I was looking to do differently than the old deck. He took some measurements, we talked a bit and he left and said he would get back to with some design options. He got back to me with in a week with 2 design options. We chose one of the 2 options and Ron began the pricing the deck with different material options. Another week or so later we did the online meeting looking at the deck plan in 3D rotating around it to look at it from different angles and with different materials. For the next 2 months we went back and forth discussing materials and design details. It sometimes took several days to get answers to some pretty simple questions but in all fairness I was asking lots of questions and he did a great job of answering them completely. We eventually made all of the design and material decisions and I put down a 50% deposit. Next was the drawings and application for permits. It took 3 weeks for the drawings to be created and approved by an engineer and another 3 weeks for the City of Bellevue to issue the permits. The deck demolittion began within a few days of getting the permits and the deck build a few days after that. The reason I'm going through the chronological order of things here is to illustrate that it took 4 months from the bid to when the deck started to get built. Granted I was building the deck of my dreams and had many questions for Ron and I live in the City of Bellevue which is very stringent in the permitting process. Also West Coast Decks is a large deck building company and they get very busy in the spring and summer. Plan ahead. Now onto the actual deck. Ron did and excellent job designing the deck he really knows his stuff and the $75 for the design is definitely money well spent. He lined everything up nicely with the existing structure and had lots of great ideas for the design. The crew that did the deck build was very professional and incredibly hard working. In 15 years of construction I have never see 2 people work so fast and hard for days on end. These guys really know how to build a deck. It was obvious they knew exactly what to do at all times. My 550 sq ft deck took around 7 days to complete. I had someone else do the railings. If I had a complaint it would be that the deck builders were going too fast. There were a couple of glitches in the drawing vs reality that I didn't see until the builder had begun the work. I did find out that the deck builder is paid by the square foot and the faster he gets the deck built the sooner he can get paid and and start the next job. I did ask for a couple of small changes during the build process and Ron was very accommodating and professional. I'll admit that I am a picky customer and expected excellent build quality and I was not disappointed My deck turned out beautiful . This company really knows how to build decks the right way with the latest materials. Their pricing wasn't the cheapest but was in line with other bids that I received. I would definitely recommend them to anyone that wants a quality deck designed and built. I

Ron came out on short notice to discuss the project and reviewed estimate via online GoToMeeting that allowed me to review options and discuss possibilities. here was a $75 charge for Ron to create the design but this was credited back when I decided to go with them for the work. This seemed more than reasonable to help get the best design possible. I also appreciated visiting Ron's show deck to actually see various products installed. After a slight delay beyond his control to get building permits approved, the work began. The team doing the work were great and the quality of their work outstanding. The entire experience was great. I would definitely recommend West Coast Decks. Indeed, I'm planning on having them back out after the beginning of the year to replace the front porch to match!

The deck is solid and beautiful. The planning and ordering process was smooth. Ron had 2 online conference calls with us to finalize the design. There was a $75 charge for Ron to create the design but this was credited back when we decided to go with their service. The permit took a while to acquire and it took Joel several trips to the county office to get the permit. The decking crew (Erik and Jason) was awesome. They cleaned the job site every day. They were the tidiest contractor we have so far. They're very professional and their workmanship was excellent. The project took longer than the original estimate. We did appreciate West Coast Decks taking the time to complete the project and not rushing to finish it. But, it would be better if they let us know ahead of time as we had to line up other contractors to start their work after the deck was complete. Overall, the project management could use some improvement. The worst part of the project was the honey bucket they placed on the drive way. After 2 weeks, the bucket started smelled awful. The bucket still sat there for a few days after they had complete the project. I would recommend West Coast Decks to my friends and family and will hire them again if I ever have to build another deck.

Ron developed detailed plans for the work that enabled a smooth permitting process and no adverse inspections, although the City took a while to approve plans. We were considerably helped in material selection by Ron's in depth knowledge of competing products and by his display deck of many colors and products. Although there was uncertainty over the availability of the permit, Ron had his crew available to commence work as soon as I let him know the permit was approved. Both his tear down crew and his construction crew were very well organized, attentive to detail, cleaned up each day and courteous. Joel oversees the day by day work and was very responsive to each and every issue we raised - and with a project of this scale there were bound to be some details that only came to light during the work. We were delighted that the bulk of the work was completed within three weeks, with a little delay to the glass railings due to material availability over a holiday. Ron is clearly able to keep sub-contractors in line and performing to the quality he and Joel expect. The end result is extremely good.

Ron and his staff were professional, prompt, and responsive. They also were flexible: when we told them we also wanted to paint our house, Ron suggested that the old deck be demolished, then the house painted, and finally they would come back after painting to construct the new deck (we took them up on this). The workers were true craftsmen, arrived promptly, and didn't settle for anything short of perfection. Any questions that we had during the project were answered either by the workers or, via Email, by Ron or his staff. Overall, it was a pretty relaxing experience from the homeowner's perspective, and the finished product looks great. We would clearly use them again and highly recommend them to others.

The deck West Coast Decks built for me is fantastic. The support structure is rock solid. It would hold up the house if there were an earthquake. The guy they had build it (yes, only one guy, Eric. Occasionally he would have someone show up to help him lift particularly heavy beams, etc). He wasn't the fastest guy, but he was amazingly meticulous. Every joint , every cut is done with precision and tight tolerances. The railing (top cap is synthetic, but the rails are natural) is the nicest clear cedar I have seen. The end result is beautiful.A team demolished the old deck on a Monday, construction started on the following Thursday and took two weeks. Eric was there every day at a precise time, worked relentlessly every day. Even came out on a Saturday. Although it took a while to complete, I would recommend this firm to anyone, especially if Eric is the builder.
Description of Work: I have a two tier back yard and a deck that is approx 5 feet above the upper tier of the yard and stairs that ran to the lower tier. The stairway was becoming quite rickety so I was looking for a full replacement, as well as having a slightly larger deck surface. I also wanted to have a durable, low maintenance synthetic product for the deck surface. I took 4 bids. West Coast decks was about in the middle of quotes I received.

I am very pleased with my experience with West Coast decks Joel, one of the owners, worked with me to design a deck that was customized to the way I use my deck– I was able to stand on my existing deck with him, show him how I wanted to use the deck, and the look and feel I wanted. Joel had many good ideas on how to accomplish what I envisioned. The result was a beautifully crafted deck that I USE. The team that built the deck were highly skilled craftsman – they built a detailed wood railing, and took special care in their measuring. Deck components were precisely cut and fit. When the deck was finished the crew cleaned my deck completely, and within 2 hours the construction debris was taken away. I highly recommend West Coast Decks.

Overall this was a very good experience and we are thrilled with our new deck and porch. - They did a great job helping us work out the design. They have a demonstration deck that let us see many materials and designs in actual use, which was very helpful. We changed our minds about the color once we saw a large section of each color, and it helped us firm up our choice of railings. - I said I wanted the deck to be solid, and, man, is it solid! There is no give, sway, or bounce anywhere. The long flight of steps down to the first floor patio is much better than the original set. - Their crew did an excellent job and was good to have around. They started the job when they said they would and worked steadily until the project was done. They kept things clean and tidy every day. - The overall quality of the work was excellent. Now, any construction project is going to have flaws, and we did find a few. The question is what the contractor is going to do about it, especially if you find the flaws after the final payment. I'm happy to report that West Coast Decks came right out and fixed the issues. For example, they had to replace a few deck boards, which they did at their expense. They also took responsibility for a problem caused by the railing subcontractor. This was were I knew I had made a good choice of contractor. To sum up, we're very happy with West Coast Decks. Based on our experience, I don't think you could go wrong with them. We'd hire them again in a heartbeat.
