Years of rain had damaged our door jamb and part of the wood was rotting. It was an easy fix, according to Jesse, the provider. He was very friendly and informative. It took around three hours, and he suggested installing an awning above the door to shield against future damage.

On the first day he told me he could accomplish all the specified work. He arrived late and only a small portion was completed. By the second day, he had only completed about half the work. There were large gaps left in the siding, with large amounts of caulking. This quality of workmanship is not acceptable. They called back to schedule to finish the remaining work. At that time, they asked if I was satisfied. I told them it was not what I wanted. They presented me an invoice for the first two days of work. The quality of the work is not worth the hourly rate that they are demanding. I tried to negotiate the cost in accordance with the low quality of the work, but they refuse to work with me and are threatening to place a lean on my property for the full amount.

The worker stood out. He was very informative, he was there on time, he told me exactly what he was going to do made some suggestions, it was like night and day difference from the other guy. The only negative thing was I really had a problem with somebody running off to Home Depot and your paying for their time and it's a long time fool around in that store. Personally I think any of these things they should come out first, look at what needs to be done and then bring the materials with them.

I had a list of items that included securing a mirror, securing a light fixture, fixing a front door latch, unstopping a bathroom sink, replacing a light switch, removing and replacing a broken recessed light bulb, hanging a large picture. I was searching for one handyman service that could do it all and found Shirey. They are a first-class company with first-class employees and services. Om contact they asked me for detailed information about my needs, which allowed their handyman/technician to walk in the door and start to work. Michael was professional, pleasant, and easy to work with; and did a great job. I highly recommend Shirey.

Mike showed up right at noon for the four hours of contracted work. Right from the start he was very friendly, personable, and also clearly knowledgeable of how to approach fixing the exterior window trim on my townhouse. I was very impressed that he arrived on site with the information needed to get working right away; obviously Shirey had made a point to give him the project details ahead of time so he could plan. With this preparation, Mike was able to very efficiently and expertly replace a portion of a warped window trim board, and even saved me money by only removing the bad portion, not replacing the entire 16' length of the board. Now I have board left over should any other window trim issues arise. While waiting for the sealant to dry, Mike was able to fix an exterior door that had been sticking for a long time, as well as install a security brace for additional protection, saving me time from a future project. Now the door works great! After fixing the door, Mike returned to the board and painted it. It now looks fantastic! Right before he left, Mike was even able to help provide an assessment on a faucet in our kitchen, confirming that additional work wasn't necessary. More time saved! Overall I found Shirey incredibly easy to work with. They were diligent in following up with me after our original work date got rained out. The provided all the information needed for me to assemble the correct materials before Mike's arrival. Mike was very professional and efficient in his work. I will most certainly use Shirey and Mike again for my future handyman needs!

The serviceman was prompt, professional, detailed, and efficient. A nice professional clean job. The only item on my list not completed was best done in a workshop and his office was going to follow up with me on setting it up. Unfortunately they did not follow up on that. Other than an oversight by the office staff the job was done very well and I do recommend them.

Tom, the handyman from Shirey Handyman Services was wonderful. He was prompt, very professional and did an amazing job. He removed an existing bar area, all the cabinets and the small bar sink. He capped off the plumbing and sealed it off. He then made all necessary repairs to the wall. Because the floor area around the bar was tiled (and not carpeted like the rest of the TV room I was left with a small area that would be visible from under the new desk area after the installation of the office cabinets and I was stressing about whether I would be able to match the tiles. Tom, the handyman was great! He suggested that if he could very carefully removed some of the tiles from the top of the bar cabinet (they matched the floor but were just a bit smaller) he could tile the part of the floor that was going to show under the desk. He was able to it and it looks wonderful. Tom, did everything he could to make sure he got everything exactly as I wanted / needed. Thanks Tom & Shirey Handyman Services
Description of Work: I was having a built -in bar, bar sink and cabinets removed from a nook in my TV room to make way for the installation of a built-in craft / home office area by a closet company. I needed the work done ASAP because the installation of the craft / office cabinets was going was already arranged and would happen in just a few days. I had hired another handyman service to do the work but bailed on me at the last minute. Shirey Handyman came to my rescue. They were incredibly sensitive to my need for quick service.

The morning of the job nobody showed up and when I called I was told that the guy hurt himself and would not come. Then they asked me if I got the call about the cancellation the day before. Of course, I did not get any calls and they did not leave me a message. It almost sounded like they messed up the schedule and were just making stuff up. The reason I hired the service and was willing to pay the high rates that they are charging because I assumed that they can provide people without me having to worry about weather one specific person is available or not and if for some reason they can't do the work they will make sure to get a hold of me to ensure I am not wasting my time and money. Needless to say I will never use them again and now have to figure out how to get a refund for the coupon.
Description of Work: I scheduled service with them two weeks in advanced for some carpenter work that needed to be done. I even rented a truck to haul away the stuff from the demo that needed to be done. I also bought one of their coupons for an 8 hour day.

The technician scheduled to work on the client’s project had a medical emergency the afternoon prior to the client’s scheduled job. With the short notice we did not have another technician available to take over this job. Our only option would have been to cancel another client’s job and move that technician to his job. One of our staff members tried calling the client to reschedule, but got voice mail and left a message. It wasn’t until the next morning, when the client called that we realized he hadn’t received the voice mail message. (The scheduling of the original appointment was handled by an agent for the client and the phone number in our record was for the client’s agent.) When we spoke with the client on the phone we apologized for the short notice of the cancellation and offered to give him priority when rescheduling his appointment. He was upset and refused further contact with us. We were unaware of other plans the client made in conjunction with his initial appointment. We were scheduled to install a sub floor in a bathroom he was remodeling. The client did the demo himself and we’re guessing the truck rental was to haul away the debris and he wanted our tech to assist him in loading the truck. We are very sorry that we had to cancel the appointment and the client was inconvenienced. Angie’s List refunded the client his money for 8 hour deal he purchased.

I was quoted 10 days to remodel a small bathroom. After the first day, if the time actually needed was going to be longer it should have been communicated to me so that the scope could be adjusted, as I had a budget I was trying to stick to. There were a few things that came up that would possibly have added some time, but as it was a small bathroom, I did not see anything that should take more than 10 days. On the fourth day, I asked the worker how much longer, I was told two days. After 6 more days, and the help of another worker, the bathroom was finally completely. There were many issues with scheduling days, so half way through the job he had to pack up all his materials (charging me an extra 3 hours to do that), so that he could work on another job. The worker was actually rather rude on the last day and made me very uncomfortable. On the surface the job looked good, but if you really look at the work, it was substandard. The shower door was put on upside down, the accent tiles were crooked, grout on the floor was cracked, and the paint job was very sloppy (some due to missed spots and some due to bad plaster work). So, after actually only being at the house for 10 days (and actual work time I tracked the equivalent of 9.4 days) I was charged for a total of 10.4 days. Plus I was charged 5.5 hrs for the time the helper was there (even though a percentage of that time was spent fixing a leak from an installation on the kitchen sink from another of their workers the week before). Buyer beware?.you are charged for the time that it takes them to shop and drive from the store to your house, the time it takes them to load their truck back up, and the time that it takes for them to write down their hours, plus any phone calls they do throughout the day that causes the work to stop. Also, if they have bought anything they don?t need, you are charged their time to bring the item back. When I questioned the hours, I was told that ?it takes however long it takes?. They had an excuse for every issue I brought up. They finally did reduce the bill, but taking off the equivalent hours of the extra worker. But the overtime that was charged by the worker for slow work (he was scheduled for heart surgery the week after the job, so he was dealing with that during the time I was told it takes however long it takes, this I am sure contributed to the slowness of the job. As well as the shaking of hands, which I would assume would make lying tiles hard and slow). I might have been okay with a ?however long it takes?, if it was a quality installation. But, there are so many issues, I?m not sure what he was doing in there all that time. They did ?offer? to have someone come out and fix the issues, but I was uncomfortable with having any of them in my house again, as both jobs I had them do were botched and the worker was rude. Also, I was told that the worker that did the original work was their best person, so I don?t see how someone else could fix the issues. I would not hire this company again as they basically have a bait and switch business model. You are at the mercy of the speed of their workers to take as long as they feel like it and say they ?worked? however many hours they want, plus project management is poor. I was told after that while the worker was telling me just one more day, he was telling the project manager something completely different, which was never communicated to me. The project manager knew what I was looking for on budget and the final invoice was over $1,500 budget. In several instances the worker stated the reason it took so long, was the time to get from the garage where he was cutting tile to the bathroom, which required going up a staircase. For some reason (I can only assume he didn?t want to carry the saw up the stairs) he did not want to set the saw up on my deck, which was on the same floor as the bathroom and would not have required using stairs between the saw and bathroom. I can only assume he wanted the overtime. Save your money and hire an experienced contractor that can be trusted not to bleed you dry.

Response from Shirey Home Pro
As the client stated, the job was indeed estimated to take ten days. She insisted on scheduling only five days initially because she was convinced the job of fully renovating and tiling a two room bathroom was a “small” job. The technician on the job felt he was being rushed to finish the work in the five days and gave up his weekend and worked with his next clients to rescheduled their appointments as possible, to finish the job in nine days. It was explained to the client during the initial scheduling that if the job did take more than the five days she wanted to schedule, then the additional five days estimated to finish the job were not guaranteed to be sequential days. At the time of scheduling, the calendar was filling three to four weeks in advance, but she insisted it “would be fine”. The client changed the scope of the work to include a complex tiling pattern on both the floor and in the shower, including trim patterns of small scale tiles, and added additional installation items along the way as the project continued. She did not feel that it should take more time to either set or grout the additional pattern or complete the detail work. The shower door was not put on upside down, but the handle was (due to a hard to see manufacturer mark which was not initially visible to the technician). When the technician asked her if she wanted him to remove and turn it, he was told not to because the client did not want to spend more time. The client purchased her materials to save money, but did not purchase enough grout to complete the complex pattern. Towards the end of the tiling the technician was forced to economize on the grout because the client did not want to purchase more materials. This led to a natural cracking in the grout as it dried because it was too thin in places. The client did not want the technician to purchase more grout and make the repair to finish the grout work correctly. The client told the technician not to repair the drywall or prior paint work. When the new paint was applied the aberrations became very clear. The client still insisted that the technician not repair the work. The client wanted the technician to set his tools up outside, in the rain, rather than under cover in the garage. On the second day, they dumped their Christmas tree in the middle of the workers set up space and he had to work around the tree. In order to finish the original ten days estimated (80 hours of work) plus the additional items which the client added to the scope of work, the technician worked several days for more than 10 hours, which he did not bill the client for. The client was aware that time spent sourcing materials, as well as the materials are chargeable to their appointment. That was why she wanted to supply the materials herself. Some materials she did not know what to buy or where to purchase the items so our technician did the work and yes, we do bill for his time and those materials. After finishing the job, in less time and for less money, the client refused to pay the bill which had come in $1000 less than what was originally estimated for the work, not including the additions she had made along the way, which she flatly denied should add anything to the final bill. This client did not appreciate the complexity of the tasks she requested, the expertise or dedication of the worker involved, the difficulties of not providing easy access or space to work or how that complicates a job. She wanted a $15,000 bathroom made for under $10,000 and in less time than any other contractor would have agreed to. We would not recommend working with this client again to any other contractor.

I had detailed the scope of work with Shirey weeks ago with an employee who no longer works there. While the details were not communicated to her replacement, everything worked out splendidly. Kathleen in the office worked hard to schedule last minute help to complete this job in 2 days. Jesse came in on the first day and expertly installed 7 of the 8 doors. The workmanship is superb. Jeff joined Jesse on the 2nd day and installed casing around 9 doors. His attention to detail was excellent and the result shows it. The whole job from start to end was great and very professional. The workmanship to the footing of our door to the mud room was more than we expected and looks considerably better than I had imagined. Way to go, Shirey!
Description of Work: Installed 8 pre-hung doors, installed 8 sets of door handle hardware, installed a wooden footing for 1 door, mitered and installed casing around 9 doors.

My husband used to take care of all our "handyman" needs until a severe back injury sidelined him. Now I needed to find someone to install a replacement ceiling fan. It took over two weeks for someone to finally return my call and leave a message. When I returned the call, the receptionist told me the person I needed to speak to was in a meeting but she would let her know I was on the line. She did take my call and i told her I needed to have a ceiling fan replaced - there was an existing fan so the wiring was all done and i I just needed it hooked up. She asked where it was located. I told her in the hallway between the 1st and 2nd floors so it was approximately 15' up from the landing. She told me it would take special equipment and/or ladders to install and because of that she would quote me 4 hours or $400. $400 to install a $100 ceiling fan. No one came out to look at my job and provide a reasonable or realistic quote. And it would seem to me that a handyman service should have the necessary equipment to perform this type of task. What I was was asking for was not something out of the ordinary. They just seemed like they did not want to be bothered. I signed up for Angie's list because I thought it would ensure high quaiity service. This entire experience from start to finish left me with a bad taste in my mouth and very hesitant to use another Angie's List vendor.

The client contacted us through Angie’s List on 10/26 and was asked to call into the office to discuss their project details and schedule time for the work. Back and forth communications followed with the client calling while the estimator was working with another client. The estimator returned their call and asked for pictures to determine the type of fan and environment the technician would be working in to give the client an accurate estimate of time and materials for the job. The estimator called back within two days and explained that the task of replacing a ceiling fan often involves completely disassembling the old fan to remove it and rebuilding the new fan in stages. The fact that this was complicated by doing the task on a ladder 15’ above a staircase meant the job was likely to take three to four hours. The client was encouraged to have a few odd jobs in case the installation did not require the fan to be installed in segments. The client did not want to purchase a four hour deal for a job that they felt should not take more than thirty minutes.

The jobs done by Junior were of excellent quality. He hung about 20 photos and paintings and a very heavy antique mirror. His talent in hanging all of this things was outstanding - everything was spaced perfectly and the work looks professional instead of the mess my husband would have made. My backyard is split level and has a small hill which I've fallen down numerous times. Junior cut down a tall, large birdhouse on an old iron pipe at the top of the rise and took it away by way of an inconvenient route because of the layout of our townhome (alternative would be to carry it through the house). He also repaired a broken toilet paper holder and looked at a few other odds and ends that I want to have taken care of. My 45-gallon fiberglass soaking tub has a few small cracks and Junior recommended that I hire a company in the business of fiberglass repair. I also have a broken microwave door handle that is unrepairable. I can find a new handle online using the model number and then it can be repaired. Also, I have 20-foot long brocade drapes in my living room that came with my house. I've wanted to have those taken down for 3 years and didn't know who to contact about that. I was so happy to learn that is something that Shirey can do that. The drapes are so heavy that I'll probably need dump truck to haul them away. Junior is the perfect handyman in my opinion -- his work is meticulous. Junior is an overall nice guy whose work couldn't be more professional. He's friendly and personable. Good job Shirey -- I would not hesitate to hire again or recommend to family and friends.

My contract after wards made me think twice. I do consider them to be expensive but I think the work that they do is very very good. I just think, I'm still not use to the charges of a handyman. I contacted them afterwards to ask about another project and pretty much those are there rates for anything and that is expensive for me so I didn't end up using them.
Description of Work: They came in to connect our dryer vent hose to where it would go outside.

I purchased this deal to have some work done on my rental house for my tenant. Since I'm quite a bit a ways from the rental house I don't have time to go over there and make the repairs myself. I've used Shirey Handyman Service LLC for some small work on my house in the past and was VERY PLEASED, I figured I'd give them a try by purchasing a full day of service and allow my tenant to give them a TODO List. Today, my tenant thanked me for purchasing the deal because the Shirey Handyman did such an AMAZING JOB. It's a great feeling when you can partner with a business to successfully help you run your own business. I'd HIGHLY recommend them and look forward to working with them again.
Description of Work: Repaired a lot of small items at my rental house.

Jesse did a great job. On-time for the work, and able to complete it well withing the two days. He also gave us some ideas of things we need to do in the future. Jesse was highly enthusiastic. able to work around the shortcomings of the house construction (not exactly square), and still be cheerful and professional. We will likely utilize Jesse in the future.
Description of Work: Paint, install molding, install vanity, sink, light fixture and medicine cabinet in an almost remodeled bathroom. The job effectively completed the remodel..

when we first made the list of 'to dos', we thought it might be too long for one working day of a handyman purchased as a big deal on angieslist, but he moved so quickly and efficiently that it all got done, plus some little things that he just noticed and took upon himself. definitely a relief, and money well spent to get the loose ends of various projects tied up.
Description of Work: general handyman stuff- things we hadn't gotten to, or didn't have the time to do ourselves, and needed done quickly. light electrical, patchwork of walls, trim, repaired an exterior door, etc

My closet in this bedroom has been an empty space for years. Mike installed brackets and clothes pole and the by-pass closet doors. I'm very pleased with the finished look.
Description of Work: I'm 83 and he took me to Lowes to pick out my closet doors and brought all home and installed a bedroom closet for me. He was very polite and helpful explaining the differences to me. Mike had also helped me on Sept 15,2015 by installing a new Front storm door for me. I am impressed with his workmanship and friendly attitude. Shirey, and Mike, will be my handyman from now on. They do the title things a widow can't do and at a price I can afford.
