It was very easy to work with them,they showed up on time and they were professional. Not so sure I would use them again because of the price but they still did excellent work.

When I needed someone for a quick drywall repair, Shirey delivered. They were very flexible in terms of schedule, which was critical since the drywall repair had to wait for another contractor. The drywall repair was much better than I could have done myself. While the handyman waited for the drywall mud to set, he was able to caulk the master bathroom, fixing another job that I have been meaning to do for a while.

We had a new, updatted bathroom in one week. Our handyman was a pleasure to have working in our home. We missed him when the work was done! He was on time everyday, did impecable work and we will welcome him back for more remodeling.

We were looking for someone to install 7 IKEA curtain poles in a new house we just bought. We found SHIREY on angie?s list. The reviews said they were a bit pricy, but we decided that good quality is worth a bit more. Well, at least we got the pricy bit right! :( The estimation for this ?project? was two hours ? done over the phone. When the guy appeared in our house, we showed him all the poles to be hanged and we also asked him to hang two toilet paper hangers ? that needed to be screwed into a wooden cabinet ? no drilling. The guy started to work without any comments. After two hours, when only one and a half curtain poles up, we started to feel that something was wrong. The entire ?project? took him 5 (yes FIVE) hours to finish and the cost was near $500. Let me just clarify that this ?project? involved 16 holes drilled and about 4 more screws ? 5 hours of work. We asked SHIREY to send one of their other employees just to see if this ?project? warrants a 5 hours? work. They refused, calming that ?yeah, 7 curtain poles and two toilet hangers is a five hour job.? So, if you have some extra money and a lot of free time, by all means, call them up. Otherwise, stay clear.

I called Donna the next week and was surprised when she told me she didn't have a bid for me yet. She hires someone else to do all her estimates and asked me to be patient. The gal doing the estimates was great at asking questions and getting all the details of my job organized and told me it was almost done. When Donna didn't call me the following week with a bid, I found out that my estimate had been passed on to a new employee and I needed to continue to be patient. I was willing to wait a few more days, but the few days turned into weeks. Several times I was told that the bid would be ready by a certain date but it never was. The painter didn't come out to look at the job until the fourth week! It helped that the new employee understood that I was getting anxious and was very apologetic. Donna never called and apologized for the delay though. She didn't seem to be paying attention to what was going on with my job. When I called her it was obvious that she didn't even realize my estimate wasn't finished. She promised she would look it over and get it to me Monday. She never called on Monday and it was already 5 weeks from when I first contacted her! It was emailed to me the next day but the quote was for the wrong brand of windows. I was shocked! The quote was within my budget, but I felt I couldn't trust Shirey Handyman to live up to their core values.

Personable and skilled workman! Finished the job in one day instead of 2 days which was projected! Final cost was almost half of the estimate. We will have this company back to do more remodeling.

I've been very happy with the responsiveness and professionalism that Shane has shown, he's been great about checking in prior to doing the work to make sure I haven't changed my mind and that the dates we agreed upon are still good for me, and he's been great about calling me at the end of the day to let me know what work he was able to complete and the subsequent cost. Although Shirey is a bit expensive, it's highly likely that I'll hire them to do additional work once the weather improves.

Noticed water damage to the ceiling of a bedroom closet and that the adjacent wall was very hot. Called to request a consultation the week of New Year's Eve and was told they'd check with their servicemen's availability and call me back, but didn't. I called again after New Year's and they sent someone out the next day. Shane went into the attic and identified the issue: an exhaust vent from the furnace that ran through the wall next to the affected closet was misaligned, causing the attic to fill with hot air; the hot air was condensing on the underside of the roof and dripping onto the insulation soaking it and the drywall underneath. At my request he provided a written estimate of 3500 to fix the problem, replace the drywall and insulation and spray to kill the mold that had formed. The next day, which was a Friday, he came and hauled away all of the insulation, cut out the drywall in the closet exposing the vent that had become disconnected, sealed the vent back up and left a couple of fans running over the weekend. On Monday he was sick so Jeff came out and put up new drywall. Shane returned on Tuesday to give it a second coat of mud and left shortly thereafter. He returned one last time to paint and re-texture the walls. He provided hi-resolution photos showing the damage and some of the work taken to fix it which proved invaluable - it helped us convince the service provider that created the problem in the first place to reimburse us for Shirey's services. The work ran $1500 so was far less than the estimate. On the whole I couldn't be more pleased with my experience. Shane and Jeff were both courteous and conscientious, keeping the noise to a minimum while I was working and not leaving a speck of dust or dirt. When the work was finished, I would never have known there was a problem. They billed at $90 an hour (which was $10 off the usual rate and was a January special) so I'd use them again for projects that would justify that price, but you really get what you pay for.

They arrived early, did the work more quickly than they had anticipated, and charged less than the original estimate. He laid it all out, explained what he was going to do, and did a great job. I am so impressed. They were great to work with. I will definitely be calling them for my future projects.

Did not hire - unbelievably expensive!

I had a deck built by a friend of a co-worker who was an out of work carpenter. The deck was fine but lacked style. What I had was a nicely constructed box. As luck would have it (for him and me) the carpenter got a job as he was finishing my deck so that sent me looking for someone to give my deck some personality. About this same time, I recieved my Angie's List magazine and saw an ad for Shirey Handyman Service. I immediately called and had an appointment in a few days. Dan was my assigned handyman. After quick overview of what I wanted, we established the priorities of what could be done the time and budget I had outlined. Dan quickly talked me through a redesign of my deck cover and I agreed. I was very pleased with the end result. I did schedule Dan to return to do some minor repairs to the deck and finish up a few odd and ends that he could not finish previously. On this second visit, he came up with a design for grape arbor to install on my deck. Again, I agreed and it was finished by the end of the day. Quality work. What I missed with the carpenter who built the deck was my input and/or just asking questions about what I envisioned. Dan certainly listened and came up with very creative solutions on the spur of the moment.

Jeff came out and did a great job. He was on time and very mindful of my budget. I marked them down on the price because of their policy on picking up materials. They not only charge you for his time to get them they also charge a heavy mark up on them. Since they are picking them up from Home Depot and not from their own inventory I think the charge is some what unfair.

It was great workign with them. They were quick, came on time and gave us estimate on phone. The actual price was lower than the estimate.

Unreliable plumber referral. Received a referral for a plumber to come and repair leak that was draining into the floor below the bathroom (into the kitchen). Plumber was scheduled to arrive this afternoon, but called me an hour prior to the appointment to advise that because he had such a long work day, he got the ok from his boss to reschedule with me. I had to re-arrange my work schedule to be there for the plumber, so getting this call prior to the appointment was not acceptable. There is no way I would hire them for this job given this experience from the get-go. Shirey personnel are professional and good to dialogue with. However, they are not the ones actually doing the work - I need reliable contractors for this job, which I know will constitute some major repair.

The birds had pecked through the screens in the ventilation hole all along the top of our 2 storey building and that?s how they were getting in and out. They were leaving a lot of mess on the deck, as the twigs that they were bringing in didn?t get through the hole. They were also defecating on the deck. A guy from Shirey Handyman Service came out and installed a disk which took care of the problem. He was very helpful and courteous. The only thing that was kind of a put off to me was that, I had to send them a photocopy of a page of a company which aggregates consumer reviews of local service companies. They asked me to do so to prove whether I was or wasn?t a member of that company. I thought that was correcting things just a little bit. In order for them to give me a discount which they had advertised in their advertisement, I had to prove to them that I was or wasn?t a member of that company by faxing them a photocopy. That was slightly annoying to me and it was like as if I was trying to pull one over on them. That one thing really irked me. I have no idea as to what a handyman service would cost and it was by the hour. The quality of their work was good. They came within a reasonable amount of time, as we set up an appointment for them to come. They were very professional too. I would use them again in the future.

Jeff is very good at what he does. He came out and estimated that the repair of some fire damage would run ~$9000, including materials, based on how extensive the fire damage behind the siding. He gave us simple demo and cleaning projects to do to save time and money in advance of him starting work. He came out and demolished the old lean-to shed. We decided to simply remove it, as it was built on top of the original side of the house, and was not structurally necessary. Fortunately, the fire damage was superficial, and did not affect the structure of the house. He tar-papered the side of the house for weather protection while we waited for the siding to arrive that matched the rest of the house. He also re-did the roof on the basement entrance. When the siding arrived, he came and installed it. All in all, it came in roughly $3K under budget because of the relatively superficial fire damage, and because we decided not to replace the shed. Jeff is very skilled and the process went very well. I am impressed with the work.

The appointments are easy to scedule. They are timely and efficient. They are very pleasant to deal with. They do what they say they are going to do and there are no surprises.

This was a repeat job. The work done last fall did not weather well at all. Shirey made it right without any argument. We will continue to use them for our handyman and general carpentry work.

I recently installed new glass double entry doors on my house and ran into some problems getting the doors aligned properly. I was leaving for a trip shortly, and running out of time, I decided to bring in some help. I called Shirey and they were able to send someone out the next day. This was a few months ago, and I unfortunately don't remember the individual's name, but he did a very good job. He was able to get the doors set up properly and was pleasant and friendly. The same was true for the office person I spoke with on the phone. The company has a three hour minimum charge, so he had time to help with another problem door. I would use them again without any hesitation.

Very well. Not a critical job but done quickly and well.

They were the lowest of three estimates. After the job was done, they were lower than their own estimate. They were quick and knew what they were doing. I am very pleased with their work.

He did a good job. He answered any questions I had and he cleaned up after himself and I would recommend them.

He did a great job. He was on time and very thorough. He was a nice, polite person. I felt the pricing was pretty comparable to other providers. I would recommend him to other people.

Did a great quality job, however at nearly $100/hr + travel over 2 days, thought it was a bit expensive.
