Response to contact was timely, able to give reasonable estimate over the phone, contractor came out on time, kept us updated the entire step of the way. appreciated the details. this is the second project Shirey has done for us and we will use them again

Jeff showed up on time and investigated the problem with the damaged wood on the trellis. He explained the options to fix the issue with me and types of wood that would work for the job. Once I made my decision he left to buy the supplies. After he switched out the damaged post and cleaned up the area he had some more time on the clock. I showed him some issues inside the house and he was able to fix a pocket door in the house and to adjust several doors that weren't closing in the allot time. Jeff did a great job and I would hire Shirey Handyman again.

I submitted the requested pictures of the Woodpecker damage in an e-mail to Shirey Handyman Service late yesterday afternoon.They promptly called me back with an estimate for the repair. They estimated that it might take up to 4 hrs. for the repair. I contracted them to perform the repair and was able to get them here today (01-30-15). Jeff did an excellent and professional repair. He was able to get the necessary Cedar siding nearby, and complete the entire job in about two hours. He finished the Cedar with his primer and my exterior latex paint, left over from an earlier house painting job. You can't even tell the difference between the repaired region from the adjacent surfaces.

I have used the company on and off for about 4 years. Their service has gone well. One technician came out and completed the job in less than an hour. He was courteous and friendly. They are reliable and scheduling is easy. The office staff is wonderful. They have been able to remember us from job to job and are very friendly.

We go back to Shirey again and again for excellent quality at a good price. In this case we designed and purchased the components for a new closet system and called Shirey to have it installed. It took less time than I expected and the results are top notch.

My builder thought it acceptable to vent a laundry room exhaust fan into the space between the floor joists. Jeff from Shirey showed up early the day of the appointment and listened to my plan for installing proper venting to the building exterior. He asked a bunch of questions and I will admit (I thought at the time) took way more time than necessary to understand the task before starting... but ultimately came up with a BETTER option that reduced the amount of drywall needing removed/replaced. I had planned to complete the work myself, but ran out of time, which Jeff understood and didn't seem the least perturbed that I'd already purchased all of the necessary materials/tools which he agreeably used. 4hrs later my ducting was installed, the ceiling/walls replaced, taped, & textured. Thank you Shirey!

First, realize that Shirey Handyman brings much more than their company?s name would indicate. Their design and construction abilities are showcased in the Zero Energy Idea House http://zeroenergyideahouse.net/ Riley and Donna Shirey are the owners of Handyman and live in this house. They?ve had tours by over 2,000 people (through their home~!) to encourage changes in construction. I admire people who have a vision for their field. Yes, I took the tour, several years hiring them. I chose Shirey Handyman based on a glowing referral by friends who had them work on two of their homes. I also wanted their range of skillsets, thinking that my window projects would entail more than just installing new windows, after getting bids from some others. And, Riley Shirey was the only consultant who came up with an effective temporary solution for last winter?s major water leaks in my kitchen windows. His visqueen-wrapping effectively stopped further damage until we could begin construction. This just reinforced my impression of a really smart problem-solver and dedicated professional from my tour of their Zero Energy Idea House. Shirey Handyman turned out to be a great choice for my situation. My project did indeed involve much more than just installing windows. Because of the range of the Shirey Handyman skillsets, I was saved from interviewing and hiring multiple contractors, ensuring communication and coordinating schedules. Instead, as they worked their way through the project, uncovering leak causes, and commenting to me on previous repairs and what to keep and what to change, Shirey Handyman was able to not only advise on the appropriate windows and structural solutions, but also was able to fabricate custom wood parts to match the originals, additional metal gutters, drains, and flashings, and to replace a little bit of wallboard. The people were wonderful. Robin was my coordinator. Riley did the appraisal and consulted during the work with the craftsmen, who were Jeff and Mike for my job. Everyone was professional, efficient and committed to my project, even special requests. They not only explained what they were finding as they took the structure apart, but also how those findings drove their recommendations for using multiple approaches to prevent future leaks. They didn?t hesitate to come out on week-ends in order to work around the weather and have things finished before my out-of-town guests arrived. They worked with me as I talked with my condo board members on appearances for windows, additional flashing and gutters/drains, and paint color to ensure that structural effectiveness was also in line with our architectural aesthetics. They were considerate of my costs. Since labor is by far the most expensive part of these projects, they worked with me on the sections where I could do things myself to save money. For example, they told me when and where I could purchase and pick-up materials ahead to have ready when they arrived. They also told me what to buy and how to prep and paint the gutter?s drain pipe, saving 2-3 hours of labor costs. Based on my experience, I recommend them wholeheartedly. I'm ready for the rains in a dry and warm home! (No more cookie sheets and towels!) So pleased!

Excellent job. Punctual and conscientious. Gary did a great job and explained everything. Putting down tile, redoing the wall surface from the ground up, installing vanity, toilet, mirror and lights. A man of many talents, he even took the extra care in the toilet install to avoid any leaks in the future. Price was reasonable compared to other quotes and quality was outstanding. I would use their services in the future. Really.

6-7 years back, in our neighborhood, we saw a few of our neighbors use shirey. Our townhome style condo is 15+ years with its own share of wear and tear. We have been going back to Shirey handyman for past 3 years for general maintenance and repair. Every year, we do something called annual checkup and repair, after all, our home is where our heart is. And, we are not DIY people, we research a lot to know about the subject but cannot apply well in reality, so... Jeff Powell is the technician who we prefer to work with, just for reasons of great professionalism, enthusiasm, reliability, upright honesty in assessing issues, practical viable solutions, on-time punctuality (you can see his van atleast 10 minutes early in the parking lot), taking time to explain things without us feeling silly. He is very focused and this work shows a lot of detail orientation.Never was a bill overpriced (especially for things to buy or the hours worked). We trust him and he has exceeded our expectations every time. Is the price right in general ? - I had shopped around before, compared and came back to Shirey. They haven't increased per day service charges based on inflation! And, that's a good thing. Have a day's worth of list to do, you will find it economical. Of course, there are exceptionally complicated repair issues which I am not talking about. Half the reviews in yelp , google reviews and angies list highlight screwed up scheduling / dispatcher. This review will not be fair and complete if I don't mention about Robin, the project coordinator. I usually email requests for quotes and availability. She is very proactive, diligent in making sure the requirements are understood, sets realistic expectations and coordinates the schedule beautifully. We have never had botheration of late arrival or any coordination related issues. Everything is taken care of right from the initiation of quote. Absolutely fantastic service from her! I am writing this today after scheduling an electrical work which came up all of a sudden And i thought I need to spend the time to review all the good work. The key to a good service based business is communication and good application skills based on which this review is. We have future plans to work with Shirey handyman services for our home maintenance/ improvement needs.

The service was excellent. Mike arrived on time, got right to work, kept a clean work environment, completed the job efficiently, and provided a lot of helpful information.

The Technician, Jeff Powell, arrived as scheduled, reviewed the 5 items that I needed accomplished; re-seat/reseal a toilet, repair the mounting on an overhead track lighting system, install three wall mounted shelves and bookcases, and install a heavy outdoor art piece. The work was accomplished correctly and to our satisfaction, within the two hour minimum as initially quoted. I am highly satisfied with my experience contracting with Shirey Handyman Services and recommend them to other homeowners as the best way to get all the little home repair projects done correctly, quickly, and in a very cost effective manner.

This is the third time I've used Shirey, and they have been super professional every time. The customer service rep I spoke with last week was friendly, professional and understanding and was easy to work with to schedule a date and time. The handyman showed up right on time; I showed him the two projects, he said "ok" and dove right in. We were expecting about six hours of work; he did it all in five. He was quick, quiet, friendly, and very focused. He paid great attention to detail, and thoroughly cleaned up afterwards. Shirey s a little on the expensive side, but worth every cent. I'm pretty handy on my own but for the things I can't do these guys have delivered every single time.

Called on Monday, arrived on Tuesday 1:00 pm as scheduled. Gave over the "honey-do" list and everything got done. Have used them twice before this time.

I planned on having this outfit purchase and install some baby gates for my stairs and deal with a rotting piece of wood on the outside of my house. For baby gates - banister and wall didn't align - and after spending about 2 hours on Amazon - I gave up on trying to find a baby gate that worked. On the phone - the woman said she could get her guy to go out and buy a baby gate and install it. When the guy got there - he was pretty useless on this part. We spent probably 20 minutes talking about it - when I finally said - "look - to be really blunt - you are the professional - I'm really looking for you to tell me what I should do here - tell me how much it would cost - then go out and buy the supplies - and do it". He finally said things that scared me - like using a piece of plywood - or not feeling comfortable that he could buy and do something safe that he could stand by - or I should buy the stuff and get things ready and do a lot of the project myself (e.g. paint) so I wouldn't get charged for his time. At this point I basically gave up on getting the baby gate installed by him - we spent about another 5-10 minutes talking about what I should do myself. (note my father-in-law and I basically ended up buying a gate and installing it using nothing more than what was in the baby gate package and it's great for whatever that's worth). For the fascia board - the work look reasonable and the guy seemed to know what he was doing and it looks like whatever wetness was causing the rotting before got fixed. I got overcharged for 1 hour of time ($100) - the company explained to me that was due to the guy having a messed-up clock in his car due to daylight savings time the night before (if my mother wasn't home - probably would have never known). There was some other charges that were a bit surprising ($45 for dumping a 4 foot board and maybe a couple of cans of caulk) and $100 for a 12 foot fascia board of which the left-over 8 feet that I paid for was not left behind. The company took the 1 hour off the bill - and an additional $50 - which seemed fine to me - I really have no idea what I should have expected. Overall - I probably would use them again for the outside work since I preferred going with an outfit rather than a random dude for that job - but I don't plan on using them for the laundry list of things that I had inside my house that I was considering them for before this job.

Buyer beware -- complete bait & switch tactics by Shirey Handyman. As other reviewers have stated, we too had worked with Shirey previously without problems but our recent experience was terrible. Our bid from their new staff member was $5300 -- we received a final bill of over $11,000. We were not provided with notice, asked for approvals or given any type of communication as to their 100% + overages. In follow up with the owners it was radio silence when we attempted to find resolution and finally just a long email saying that they have now changed their contract for future work and were very sorry that we did not value their efforts. Based on this experience, I would not consider working with them again.

The techs were very knowledgeable and explained problem initially, then did the job in the time promised for the amount stated.

We had used Shirey in the past and were happy with the quality of the service, so we called them again when we needed some exterior caulking. Unfortunately, we did not have the same experience this time. Our handyman was late for both visits. He was a very nice guy but there were some issues with the quality of work and attention to detail. When he removed the old caulk he did some damage to our siding and window trim; there were some areas that were gouged and scraped. When caulking, the work was kind of sloppy. There were white caulk fingerprints left on our grey siding and there was grass and debris that dried in the caulk because he had put the caulking gun down on ground and did not wipe the tip before using it. This is not the level of quality I would expect for the rates that Shirey charges. I gave this feedback to the Shirey office and they did not seem to care that a customer had this experience.

Came same day we called and got the smoke alarms to stop beeping. Very helpful, personable service man got the work done efficiently.

Everything went well. The handyman Jeff was quick, efficient and knowledgeable. I would hire this company again.

They were actually onsite before call time, so they were early. They finished the job on time. They did a really good job. Their service was quite expensive, but in their defense it was earlier than 7 o'clock so they charged me extra for being there in the early hours. It was quite expensive and that is the only negative.

Went very well. Post was removed, new post installed. Minimum of fuss, very professional and friendly.
