Went very well. Worked very hard. I was very impressed with owner's skills. Had to work in a space where he wasn't allowed to change green area. Had to make a number of changes, but owner was able to stay within quotes. Really patient. He allowed me to make changes. His demeanor was just fantastic. He was very quiet and patient. He did exactly what I wanted.

Shinda was great to work with. We needed to regrade and clear a large portion of our property, and then add rockery and terracing to make the property more usable, attractive and safe. We had a general idea of what we wanted to do, but didn't have a design from a landscaper, so Shinda acted as designer for us, making suggestions and working with us to make creative recommendations and decisions along the way. He and his team were polite, reliable and easy to work with. They worked hard when they were here. There was some scope creep as we got into the project and ideas evolved, and he communicated proactively along the way. The work they did met our goals of safety and function, and it looks great too. Shinda is part technician, part artist. He really has amazing skill at selecting and placing rocks just so - so they not only do the job functionally, but they really look beautiful. We were very happy with this partnership and do not hesitate to recommend Olympic Rockery.
Description of Work: Services included: - land clearing - debris removal/hauling - excavation/trenching - grading and terracing of the property - installation of alpine-style rockery on several steep slopes - construction of 3 stone staircases - coordination of rock, gravel and mulch deliveries

I wanted larger stones in my flower bed so I called based on a special through Angie's List. We had a great discussion over the phone about what I was looking for. Small to mid size boulders to randomly place in my flower bed. We did have one miscommunication about when I was going to call about the delivery time so delivery was delayed a week. He showed up on-time with a truck bed full of rocks. He placed them randomly, collected payment, and went on his way. I really love how they look.

From day one, Shinda was professional and listened intently to our ideas for the yard. He even sat down with us for about 2 hours as we drew out our backyard and ran ideas by him. He never rushed us and actually seemed to enjoy the process. He did this before we signed the contract. I also remember Shinda telling us that he would complete the project in 7 days and that he would do it for $20,000. We received three bids and Shinda came in as the lowest bid. With the enormity of our project, it seemed impossible that he could clear out our old rocks and landscaping and create the masterpiece that he did in 7 days. However, when we reached day 7, he had transformed our yard into something we could have only dreamed of. He also stayed true to his estimate and never asked for additional money to cover the costs of the project. Shinda arrived every day around 8:00 and usually worked until 7:00 at night. It was amazing to watch his progress each day as our yard transformed. Our neighbors were amazed at how quickly he worked, and they still stop by and compliment us on our new back yard. I would definitely use Olympic Rockeries for future landscaping/rockery projects.
Description of Work: Olympic Rockeries converted our unusable backyard into a useable space. We had about 200 sq feet of useable backyard, and now we have about 1,000 sq. feet thanks to the amazing work of Shinda and his excavator. He built 2, 90 ft long walls and each wall is approximately 4 feet tall. He built two additional walls running about 40 ft and these walls are also 4 ft tall. He also utilized large flat rocks to create stairs to connect the upper and lower portions of our back yard. These walls required 3 and 4 man boulders and he placed them with ease. He has amazing vision as he moves these massive stones around with his excavator.

I found Olympic on Angie's List and thought I would give them a try. After calling other groups (that never returned my call or never showed up to an appointment), I had new experience with Olympic. The owner (Shinda) called me back within 5 minutes and we scheduled an appointment later in the day. I originally reached out to them for a rockery quote. Shinda met me personally and provided a firm bid on the spot. I was surprised to receive a bid quickly - especially after working with other groups who sat on things for a week and then would only provide me with a weak estimate. Shinda assured me he was providing a firm bid that would not alter in the even he under-estimated things. Throughout our project, Shinda stood by his bid and never altered figures. I'm convinced that he had to suck up some expense, but never came to me asking for more. Olympic stands by their word - which is an anomaly in landscaping work as others seem to always have hidden costs. As we talked more about the project (and as I grew comfortable with Olympic's capabilities), we started to increase the scope of the project. Although the name is Olympic Rockeries, they do a lot more than just rock work. Having the machinery/etc, they were able to completely demo the property, perform grade work and do transplanting. The rockery work is fabulous and flawless. And, since they have their own quarry, they had access to older/aged/differentiated materials that others did not. Olympic always showed up on time, they worked according our schedule (including weekend time) and the job site was always clean. They worked extremely hard pulling 12+ hour days and really pushed to be efficient. I found them to be very professional and easy to work with. My wife/I are NOT easy clients. We are very meticulous and anal about our work. I'm sure we drove Olympic crazy, but they listened and worked with us. We don't recommend groups unless we firmly believe they will do a great job. We highly recommend Olympic. We'll definitely use them again. We'll definitely advise our family/friends to use them. In the end, I think we saved A LOT of money working with Olympic and we got a level of personalized service we couldn't have found elsewhere. Great company...great owner. Highly recommend!
Description of Work: Olympic Rockeries completed a complete landscaping overhaul on my property. I have about 1/3 acre. They first demo'd all of our property, hauling away all the materials as well as digging out roots. I had some existing rocks that they relocated and then made a fabulous ~100' rock wall with massive basalt rocks from their quarry. He then used existing rocks to build a 20' wall (that staggered up around 8'). They then completely graded the property making it ready for new topsoil. Several massive rocks were relocated to different parts of the property. A new rockery/stairway was created near our A/C/Generator units. And, a final 18"x40' rockery was added to grade out a large (to be) lawn area. Finally, several mature plants were relocated and planted. And, in the end, even added a 100' french drain. In all, this was a very large project. They took a 40+ year old landscape and completely gutted it...and rebuilt a flat/graded area that can now house 5,000 square feet of lawn and several areas for our kids to play in...and will accommodate around 120 cubic yards of new topsoil/planting bed material.

Shinda did a beautiful job with our stonework. Easy to work with, he was very personable, had a good sense of humor, and listened to what we wanted. Throughout the process, he respectfully offered suggestions that turned out better than what we had originally had in mind. He explained everything, making sure we were on the same page throughout the entire project. Staying within the budget, he was clear about costs so we knew exactly where we stood. He worked with us to find stones at a more reasonable price and encouraged us to get larger stones for our rock wall so they could better withstand "vehicular assaults." Going above and beyond, he volunteered to move a pile of mulch (15 yds) around our landscaping area for no additional charge. Shinda is highly artistic and has an amazing ability to place the rocks to their best advantage. He was very particular about the quality of the stones and meeting our expectations. You could tell he loved what he was doing and put his heart into the project. We are very happy with the finished product and will definitely use him again if we have any projects in the future. We read the other reviews and they accurately reflect our experience with Shinda and his work.
Description of Work: Shinda installed a 40' x 3' rock wall around our parking area. He also laid a Pennsylvania Blue flagstone courtyard and pathway, and placed 5 large, decorative rocks in our landscaping area.

We are very impressed and already looking forward to working with Shinda and Olympic Rockeries again for a few big reasons. 1) Shinda is a rock artist. He looked at our project, had a vision for it, and executed it down to the final boulder-sized detail. Watching him maneuver his Bobcat was like watching a trained musician play an instrument. He?d place a rock, inspect it, spin it around, place it again, adjust the angle ? the details seemed to matter to him at least as much as they mattered to us, which was reassuring. He even wanted to wash a couple of the boulders of before he left to make sure they looked as good as they could. His artistry even showed in how he handled the aggregate-cutting. Making just two straight-line cuts, he managed to complement the existing curved lines of the driveway so well that we?ve decided just to leave it rather than re-pouring a new curved edge. Despite the attention to detail, he still worked quickly. In fact, he and his coworker only seemed to take one short break (maybe 10 minutes) all day. 2) They showed real respect for our wishes and concerns. For instance, there was one part of our project where we wanted to minimize the thickness of the rockery so we could keep our driveway as wide as possible. Shinda brought several narrow boulders and checked with us as he placed them to make sure the driveway was wide enough. Also, he was careful with our trees. Now, admittedly, I?m kind of a tree nut? I know that they probably don?t need to be treated as gently as I like to treat them? but I really appreciate that when I told Shinda about my concern for our trees, he was careful not to bump tree branches with the Bobcat and not to damage roots when he dug into our bank. 3) They did extra work. In addition to building our wall with the rock he brought, Shinda pointed out that we had several big, beautiful boulders halfway buried in our landscaping. We hadn?t even noticed. But he pulled them up, repositioned them, and voila ? our boring mossy rocks are now beautiful focal points in our front yard. He could have ignored this potential or even tried to sell us new decorative boulders; instead, he unearthed hidden gems for us, and didn?t charge us extra. In the end, we ended up with a much cooler rockery than we expected to have, we paid exactly what was estimated, and all of my precious trees were treated gently.
Description of Work: Consultation: We asked Shinda to give us an estimate because we were planning to purchase small-ish boulders and build a rock wall ourselves. He came to our home and gave us that estimate (on a Sunday!) but suggested that he thought bigger boulders would look better for our project and gave us a quote for that option, with his team doing the installation instead of us. Project Completed: After thinking it over, we preferred Shinda’s “bigger rocks” idea. So he installed an “alpine look” rockery (20-25 boulders, about 2 feet tall on average) in our front yard to finish off the completely unfinished bank we inherited when we bought our house. Before placing the rocks, he prepped the edges of the bank in a few spots where it needed to be dug back. He also removed a big chunk of aggregate driveway that was in the way of where we wanted the wall.

It took some time to get the flagstones because they were out of stock for awhile (perhaps due to the popularity of Angie's Big Deal), but when they came in, Shinda and his helper delivered them promptly as promised and spent spent a generous amount of time helping me to get them integrated into the walkway. It was a somewhat difficult situation since I was trying to replace existing stones in the middle of a flagstone path, which is a lot like drawing to an inside straight in cards. I was pleased with Shinda's ability to figure out where the stones should go, and he was very concerned about being sure that I was satisfied with the service he performed. The stones he installed are level and secure. He is pleasant, professional, and helpful. I would hire his firm again without hesitation
Description of Work: I bought the Angie's List big deal for flagstones, delivery, and labor. Shinda and his helper delivered five good-sized flagstones, helped figure out where they should go, and dug them in so that they were level with the rest of the walk. Shinda has a good eye for placing stones. I appreciated being able to communicate and do the scheduling by email, which is more efficient than playing phone tag.

I'm so impressed with Shinda and his team. It has been a difficult project due to the constant rain turning the ground to mud making it difficult for the trucks to get back to the work site. Shinda has been calm, professional, flexible, creative, intelligent, hard-working, and just plain amazing through it all. I HIGHLY recommend him and Olympic Rockeries!! You will not be disappointed!!
Description of Work: I hired Shinda to install a drain system around my barn and install a rock wall to support the barn and prevent erosion. At the estimate he said Fill dirt would do the trick, that I didn't really need the rock wall, that it would just add to the cost, at which point my decision was made.

Olympic Rockeries turned our yard from a flat field of dirt to a fabulous park-like setting in less than a week. Shinda's vision and his rock placing skills created a beautiful framework around a new home we are building which will soon be on the market. He saw options that had not occurred to us and he was willing to take the time to "play around with ideas" until we had the perfect solution. Shinda was always on time and worked until the job was complete. He exceeded our expectations in all areas, from grading, rock placing, planting, sod-laying and finishing touches like steerco instead of bark. He even met us at Maranaco's one morning to make sure we had the perfect stepping stones that he had envisioned for our yard. He loves his job and it shows in his attention to detail. Soon after we started the project, we realized we were limiting his creativity when he volunteered to bring in some rocks for us to see and decide if we liked them. If we didn't like them, he agreed to take them back. But he was right; we needed just what he had provided. We loved his willingness to try options until we were satisfied with the result.Shinda's desire to please his clients is unsurpassed. You may see the finished job at 13855 SE 10th St. SE, Bellevue 98005.
Description of Work: 1. French drain and hard pipe to catch basin. 2. 120 yards of fill to level yard. 3. Installed riser in catch basin. 4. Created burms for planting beds. 5. Amended soil per Bellevue specs. 6. Placed approximately 20 rocks in yard. 7. Planted 100+ trees and shrubs. 8. Planted 3900 sf of sod. 9. spread 60 yards of steerco (mulch). 10. Installed outdoor lighting.

We had originally bought the BigDeal on rocks and labor for a different project, and were very pleased in all respects. The Deal was no longer available for this project, but Shinda named us a very reasonable price for the same amount of rock and easily twice as much labor. The rock was excellent, the service was prompt and fitted to our schedule, the workmanship was professional, and the finished product is a considerable improvement. We also appreciated the care taken not to harm nearby plants.
Description of Work: Olympic Rockeries supplied about 20 basalt rocks of a size that one strong man could handle, and extended an existing low rock retaining wall. Shinda (owner) also relocated and relaid about 6 feet of the the former wall, doing about 12 feet of rockery in all., then shoveled in, tamped down and raked smooth the removed dirt.

I emailed Olympic Rockeries and Shinda called me within the hour and scheduled an estimate that night after i came home from work. It was nice not having to take off work for the estimate. He gave me a verbal estimate and emailed me the same estimate early the next morning. I obtained other estimates but chose Shinda based on the price and his availability to start the work soon. Shinda and his workers took care to protect the deck as they removed the old railroad ties and then built the rock wall. It took two days to complete the work and the new wall looks great. The workers swept the deck and graded/leveled the raised bed and it looks great. My wife and I expected a nicer looking rock wall, but we are blown away how much nicer the rock retaining wall looks than the old timbers that it replaced. Shinda and his workers were very polite and easy to get a hold of to discuss the project. I'd definitely use his company again.

They were eager to get started and brought equipment within a couple days. I hadn't bothered to run around and get all the paperwork approved with the subdivision's project-approval folks yet (my fault), so I had to delay the start of the project. Instead of making any big deal out of the delay, he was very calm and professional and told me to let him know when everything was squared away. It took several days to track down the right folks to sign the paperwork, so the project was delayed until the following Monday. Again, no complaints or frustration. Shinda just rolled with it and started the work. They delivered many tons of rock and used a Bobcat to carry most of them to the backyard (the 2 back walls were the full length of the house and by far the largest part of the project). Shinda used the Bobcat to do the heavy lifting and get the rocks close to where they were needed in the wall, and his crew stacked them by hand. I have never seen rock walls so straight from end to end and from bottom to top. I've built a few shorter ones myself that didn't turn out nearly so well, so I have a great respect for their skills in this area. Other than normal short breaks, they never stopped and stood around wasting time. The rocks were always ready to go in the next area when they were done with the previous area. They had definitely worked together before and all knew the drill. When they were stacking the "S" curve around the tree on the side of the house we went out and asked for it to be a little taller and a little longer. They obliged with smiles. When they were stacking the front wall, it started to look a little too straight (we wanted a subtle curve to that one). We asked them to change it after they were already a ways into it and they smiled and took down the affected rocks and restacked them. Oh, and while they were working in the backyard, they were kind enough to level out a future site for my shed. When the job was over, we asked for some extra matching rocks to do some little odd jobs around the yard and he graciously dropped some off for no charge. Very professional, very polite. I've already had a couple neighbors ask about the work and take his name and number for one of their own projects. I asked him for some of his business cards just so I won't have to keep writing it down for future visitors.
Description of Work: Setting:Our house is built on a slope with the front yard higher than the back yard. We had a rock wall in the front yard that was lower than the sidewalk, but it formed a planter between the rock wall and the sidewalk; rain water would just drain off and we had a hard time keeping plants alive in that planter. Side of the house: existing rock wall but of a different kind of rock that didn't match anything. Back of the house: constant erosion of the dirt behind the house sloping down into the back yard. Shinda and his crew added to the rock wall in our front yard so it was level with the sidewalk to avoid the runoff. While several other rockeries told us the stone color we had (and liked) couldn't be matched, Shinda found some rock that will oxidize over time to become the same color and brought some before and after samples to show us the color change that we could expect. The "after" rock sample matches the existing color really well. And to avoid it looking unusual in the mean time, while we're waiting for it to oxidize, he mixed the existing rocks with the new rocks into the wall and restacked it completely. He used a Bobcat and/or excavator to move the heavier rocks around and dragged an "I" beam across the enlarged front yard to level it. (We've had some work done in the past by someone else who "leveled" the ground by just driving back and forth over it several times. The "I" beam did a lot better job.) They rebuilt the rock wall on the side of the house with a nice "S" curve around a tree and a rock wall along the side of the slope that descends into the back yard. Same rock as in the front planter wall so we get a consistent visual affect from the street. In the back, they built 2 rock walls behind our deck (full length of the house) to stop the erosion. Each wall was about 3 ft tall and the overall effect was a nice clean edge at the yard level and 2 distinct planter tiers and then the deck footings. We have some stairs that descend on the other side of the house to the back yard and he brought some extra rock and built us a matching shorter wall along the other side of the steps to give it some symmetry. He also leveled the back yard with the "I" beam.

Everything went great, no problems. The owner of the company, Shinda came at the time we agreed on,and was friendly and professional. I purchased 500 lbs of basalt rock, Shinda delivered, unloaded it, and looked at some future work that I hope to have done at a later date. I would recommend Olympic Rockeries to friends.

Must admit, I never priced rock, just thought this sounded like a good deal and we needed rock to fill in the gaps beneath our fence. Was surprised when Olympic emailed me almost immediately upon purchasing the Deal, and doubly surprised when they delivered same day as our first contact on the phone. Even more surprised when he offered to bring in another load that same day at the same price when it was clear the amount of rocks in the first load was not sufficient to do the job. He was very polite and either called to say he'd been delayed or [gasp] actually showed up when he said he would. Will definitely use them when we need more landscaping rock.
Description of Work: Brought first Big Deal load of rocks, and then offered to give me a second load at the same price when it was clear our project needed more rocks to finish.

Shinda of Olympic Rockeries called me right after I purchase this Big Deal. That is always a good indication of the responsiveness of the company...the fact that they call me and I don't have to call and try to schedule. Shinda was very professional and even agreed to deliver and install the rocks on a Saturday so that my husband could be there. He arrived on time, and was very responsible in placing the rocks just where we wanted them. We were so pleased that we ordered more rock from him before he left. Would definitely recommend this company and would use again!

They provided excellent service and were very responsive and punctual. Since I was interested in larger rocks as well, I asked him to come out to my property beforehand and he provided me a quote for the additional large rocks I am considering, so it's good to know he can handle the large jobs as well. When he came to my property to deliver the rocks, he placed them exactly where I previously told him I wanted them and arranged them nicely. I would definitely use their services again.
Description of Work: I wanted to create a large rock outcropping in our front yard, so I purchased the big deal and got about 500 pounds of rock delivered, which was about 8 pieces.

We got Angie's List "The Big Deal" coupon for Olympic Rockeries & Construction. Shinda contacted us within an hour of the coupon purchase. We had him out at our place the same afternoon to look at samples and discuss options. The next day, the discussed stones were delivered. We were greatly surprised when we received more goods than expected. Olympic Rockeries & Construction definitely over delivered! The whole process, from purchasing the coupon to the delivery and placement of the stones was done within 24 hours. The focus on the customer's needs, the high quality service and professionalism that Shinda provided is rarely seen these days. We highly recommend Olympic Rockeries & Construction and will definitely continue to use their service.
Description of Work: Received large decorative stones and had them appropriately paced within the landscaping environment. Also had a sizable amount of smaller stones for a rock garden delivered and placed.

Shinda contacted me very promptly after I got in touch via email. He came over and gave me a competitive estimate based on a realistic assessment of the problems he saw with the wall. I had gotten two other assessments and estimates from other companies and had a solid basis for comparison on what needed to be done. I picked Shinda because he demonstrated a good understanding of the problem and seemed easy to work with. Shinda gave me an estimate on Friday and completed the work two days later. He was part of a 2-man crew that did the work. We reviewed the work to be done in advance and again once the work was finished about 4-5 hours later.
Description of Work: Olympic Rockeries helped repair and shore up our existing rockery. They added several 1- and 2-man rocks to the gaps in the wall and wedged them into place with a sledgehammer.

Shinda, the sole proprietor, was outstanding. He was able to meet my demanding schedule, deliver on time, did extra work to help out with unloading the stones I bought from him.He gave good advice on building the stone wall. At the same time, he was not pushy, over-salesy nor rushed in his communications. very professional and simply helpful. I look forward to hiring him again for a bigger project!
