Responsive at first, nice guy. Came out to take measurements and to go over spec of work. Peter told me he would email me a quote. 2 weeks went by without a quote or response from my numerous emails and phone calls. He could have at least had the decency to say he was too busy or didn't want the job. Unprofessional.

We worked with Pete and his crew to finish our first level of our split level home. Pete was a nice guy, and most of the work was done well. However, there were some issues "Finished" work timing was much slower than originally quoted (quoted 4-5 weeks and it took as many months). There was one thing that was missed on our side holding it up for a couple of weeks. Communication was dismal. We were constantly hounding Pete for status, timing, next steps, materials we needed provide, etc. to be sure we weren't a cause for delay. When there was a legitimate need to deviate from the discussed plan, we came home to surprises; they were not communicated with us before we walked in to find things drastically different than originally discussed or expected. Return air ducts were installed in a fashion that was necessary but totally different than quoted. As a result, a small "cubby" under the stairs (already cramped quarters) lost six inches of height when the return air was routed through it along the floor, an entirely different location than originally discussed. Apparently the original route had too many 90 degree bends than code allows, which we understand now, but this is the kind of thing that we believe should have been discussed with us to come to an understanding and agreement on the alternative rather than them executing whatever alternative was thought up in a vacuum without our knowledge or consent prior to execution. A large exposed support beam (think centerpiece of the ceiling) which had some paint on it was fully stained without sanding all of the paint off so it had to be redone. The tube behind the drywall that one would snake cables through to the wall mounted TV was somehow lost in the wall during the drywall stage and it wasn't caught before it was "too late" to fix properly. So what we got as a fix (again, without discussion before execution) was a massive hole in the drywall (think 1' x 2' big) behind the built in drawers that requires reaching your arm behind the drywall nearly up to your shoulder to snake cables between the port behind the built ins to the port behind the TV. The painter did not put plastic over the windows when doing the trim and sills so there is a light dusting of paint over all the windows, and on one window there's a large paint smudge. They didn't communicate with us on their idea of the windowsills and finished them with drywall instead of wood - creating a more expensive alternative to what we thought was an automatic default - wood trim sills. Finishing at the end was sloppy. We bought very nice built ins that were missing some finish pieces and instead of letting us know so we could work with the manufacturer to get it right, they "fashioned" a much more cheap looking finish and wanted to call it good. There wasn't a final round of cleaning done to sort of do the final "hand off" that this is now spotless, your new space, enjoy it. Faux-wood vinyl floors looked like there was paint in the grooves due to dirt. We didn't discuss regular removal of trash and construction waste but there was only one obvious round done - at the very end. There was a very unsightly pile of random wood scraps and construction garbage outside our back sliding glass door for the duration of the five month project. There was a general aversion to getting permits and when no one was present to let the inspector in to do their work when scheduled, there were additional delays to reschedule. The plumbing and electric work was all done without any issue - excellent work

I'm understand and sympathize with your point of view. From our side there were delays and problems with customer supplied materials, cabinets, etc. We try to do our best and adapt when customer supplied materials are wrong or parts are missing. We're trying to be efficient and cost effective so we can't just stop every time we hit a speed bump and wait for feedback. We try to make professional decisions based on code and our 35 years of experience. I'm sorry you were not completely happy. I thought the finished project was gorgeous and we dealt with problems very well.

I would hire them again based on the work, and if work can get delayed or the place is not occupied. I would rate is as average workmanship with very poor project management. First week or 2 I could not reach out pete, plus they picked up cabinets 1 week later. The design for cabinet is what they took as the design for kitchen, and were not open to any communication. I had to remind them that sink was not select after the pattern was given out for the counter top. More than 1 week I was left without a sink. Delay in estimating how much flooring would I require, bcos of which I could not get my first preference. There was a water leakage in cabinets, on sending out photos, rather than remedial measure, it was argued that they had everything correct. They did a fair job but finishing was not up to the level.

Once again, Pete and his A Team -- Sean, Frank and Joe -- came to our rescue. We're selling our house and there were more fixes from the home inspector. In a market where there're virtually no contractors available, Pete saved us, AGAIN! The team was brilliant -- we've had them before -- and the entire project went beyond smooth. Pete gave me the full scope of the project, and the A Team fulfilled it on-time and very professionally. They're a great crew to interact with, as they're more like friends helping us out. Words fail to truly explain the what Pete and the team do on a daily basis. We'll be forever grateful to them for what they've done. They're of the highest integrity, professonalism and intelligence! We bow to their performance!

Pete Lange and his crew were truly amazing. After Pete and I had an initial walkthrough to discuss what was needed, Pete got the game plan in place, and everything thereafter couldn't have gone smoother. Pete's communication -- as well as his crew -- was clear and understandable. All of his crew were extremely professional, yet exhibited a friendly personality with great senses of humor. They arrived when they were supposed to be here, and they worked very hard once they arrived. The entire process was flawless from start to finish. Considering how swamped Pete's schedule was, the fact he fit us into it and completed the work earlier than expected, was icing on the cake. If you're considering contacting a general contractor, you'd be doing yourself a disservice if you don't at least talk to Pete. He's a perfect reflection of his crew, and they're outstanding! Many thanks!

We had a pipe burst in our top floor unit and it flooded our condo, as well as the 2 floors below. We contacted several contracting companies and met with a lot of frustration, until I talked to Pete. He was quick to respond and take control of the situation. We had to coordinate everything with insurance, and Pete was awesome at taking care of everything. He was very quick with communication, was super professional and so easy to work with, I felt like I didn't have to worry about anything. He got out to the unit within a day or two of contact to give us an estimate & was there within the week to finish up all the work. Many people say that all the good contractors are booked out for weeks, months or even the whole year, but I don't think that is the case, because Excel General Contractors, LLC did an amazing job very quickly. Unfortunately for the units below us, they are still not complete, over 2 months after the flooding accident. Wish we could've recommended Excel to do the work for all the units! We will definitely be calling Excel for future work, and I would recommend him to anyone who needs work done quickly and well.

Pete did a great job with the initial estimate, the repair work itself and stayed within the agreed upon fee. They even worked around our work schedule even though I know his crew is extremely busy. I would recommend Excel to anyone without hesitation. I only had one comment to correct a small area we had painted and they fixed it the next day no hassle and no extra fee, they are great to work with and very accessible to answer any questions along the way. They did such a good job we are having them provide a number of estimates for work we want done in the future so we're looking forward to working with them again.

We were a little apprehensive to start with when we were looking for someone to get work done in our new house. Pete was one of the contractors we decided to go ahead and get the quote. Right from the initial interaction to coming over to do the initial inspection Pete was very responsive and meticulous which was missing from the others we shortlisted. Pete send us the quote on the committed date itself and had good breakdown of the material and labor cost which made it easy for us to pick and chose what we wanted do to and understand the costs. The work started on the promised date and even though there were some delays to the project schedules overall Pete was able to met his timelines and kept us updated on the progress. He was on track with the initial cost estimate that was provided and didn't really mind getting some minor work added to the scope with no extra cost. Overall we are very happy with how things turned out and how our new house looks after the work was completed. We received quite a bit of compliment as well for it. I have already recommended Pete to couple of my friends.

Excel was prompt, professional, and did good quality work. They worked with my tenant to coordinate their schedules and everything was done in timely fashion. They cleaned up well after themselves, and promptly addressed what few issues arose on that score. Peter gave me reasonable estimates for the work and met them to the penny. Overall, this was a pleasant, virtually painless experience and I would recommend Excel to anyone.

People in business who say one thing and do another when it comes to the little things --- they make me wonder what they will do when it comes to the big things. Peter from Excel came to my property to bid on repair work on a Friday. I showed him photos of damaged areas in my crawl space, 2nd story flashing, and master bathroom remodel and explained the work to be done. He described how he would take care of every problem area. He then asked me to email him the photos and told me he would have a bid for me by the following Tuesday ---- Since then I've heard nothing. I know it's obvious that he's left me to guess that he's decided that the work at my property is, for whatever reason, not something he's interested in doing. But did he have the business professionalism to let me know? No, that's not how his type of contractor works. He will say one thing to your face and then do something else when it would have been just as easy to tell me on the day he came to my house or simply email me back. I'm glad, for whatever reason, he decided not to pursue the job. I'd rather get someone I trust will do what they say and communicate openly and completely about the process. It's funny, in a way, because I own other houses and have other work that will be coming up to do -- but his lack of professionalism has nixed him from consideration on those follow-up projects.

I contacted Pete and he emailed me back first thing the next morning. I told him I watched too much TV and thought I could do it myself. He came out that day to see the damage I had done. He gave me a bid on it and I asked when he could do the work? He had someone out within a day. I had a hole in the wall with plastic over it. I gave him the spec sheet and he was hired. Then I started asking about bathroom remodels. He gave me a quote on two bathrooms. So, we are moving in within two weeks and he said that would not be a problem that the work would be done. He is very patient with me. I can ask him a question and he is quick to respond. So in the middle of the demo of the tile in the bathrooms, I asked if we could do the kitchen. He gave me a bid and he is hired for that. The thing that impresses me the most? Pete is responsive, Pete handles concerns, and on the first day of demo and the toilets and sinks were going out? And you are thinking, oh no look at all the garbage? Here comes Steve who is a great guy to pick it all up. So the toilet wasn't there for the neighbors to see and his employees are all polite and respectful. I have seen bad contractor's before and Pete has restored my faith in people being honest and taking care of concerns and making it right. There is pride in his work and integrity. Look forward to showing off the pictures of my updated bathrooms and kitchen.
Description of Work: I contacted Pete on Angie's list. I had the bright idea to lower my fireplace in a house we just purchased. Demo went fine but to lower it you needed the same vent pipe that they don't make anymore. Which then I had to purchase a new fireplace. Which entailed framing for the smaller size. I was reading the instructions and it had steel studs in the brochure. I went on Angie's list and emailed Pete.

Excel's roofing expert came and discovered two roof vent pipe boots were torn or damaged, and fixed them both. He also was very thorough and looked for any other possible suspicious roof leak areas. The roof is only 16 years old, and he was honest in saying the roof did not need an expensive replacement, just the repairs. Next, the interior damaged drywall was fixed expertly and now it looks like the damage never happened. We're happy with the professional and thorough work provided by Excel General Contractors. They are close to us in Carnation, and we're now considering a complete bathroom remodel with them. Pete Lange was easy to work with, and we look forward to working with Excel again.

Let me start out stating that hiring Excel general contractors was one of the best things we had done. Thoroughly professional, on time, very reasonable in their pricing and very customer friendly. Our only regret was that we didn't hire them earlier. They are top notch, and having worked with different contractors for our home renovation, I can confidently state that they are amazing to work with. Not only are they excellent in their work, they also helped guide us through any questions, or feedback we had. They were also proactive and finished the project ahead of schedule. You really can't go wrong hiring these wonderful folks.
Description of Work: Excel general contractor helped us completely renovate two bath rooms along with some prep-work for our kitchen remodeling. They took over the project after we had to change our previous contractor who didn't do a good job and they had to start over from scratch. They helped us with the demolition of old bath, tiling work, installing countertops, painting, plumbing etc. In the kitchen they helped us with lowering the sink wall and installing dry wall after the electric work was completed.

Excel GC has done a fantastic job of helping my family turn a distressed house into the home of our dreams. Pete Lange has guided the project to completion from start to finish, helping resolve issues that pop up even those which are outside of scope from our original contract, all without complaint. Pete sees the project ownership as a partnership, and works to ensure that the homeowner is satisfied. I can't recommend him highly enough. Great work, Pete!

Many things went wrong with this project. I was told they could do tub deck in two pieces. Pete did not order enough quartz so they did it in four pieces so I have four seems. Then they had to order more for my backsplash. I was not happy with the floor tile I ordered. I asked if it could be returned. I understand he had not been able to return previously but after it was installed I found out that it could have been returned. Those are my biggest complaints although there are others. To spend that kind of money and dislike the floor when it could have been changed. His tile guy needs some people skills. Pete only stopped by 3 times in 8 weeks and one was to give us a bid on another project. Even the last day came and he said he would stop by at 10am and he never showed up. We had lots of lulls waiting for tile to get in. Some were due to my changes but my changes came after I was told I needed to pick another backsplash. I also had to add a bullnose pencil for my tile when I found out they wanted to use a schluter edge. Glad it is finally done.

It is interesting to hear that side of the story. From our side we were quite frustrated with the tile being selected by the client and her designer. Normally I am involved in helping make selections so to blame us for your tile selections is misguided from our perspective. Delays were only caused by your tile selections. Our project foreman John was on site for every step of the project making sure all went right. The tub deck was made in four pieces so it could be done from the same stone slab as the countertop which saved you $800 and you were very budget oriented from the start. Other than your tile selections I think all went very well from our side. There are two sides to every story.

Pete, the owner is a very decent man. I think he had some family issues during the time of the job which caused him to be hard to reach at times. That said, he was never out of contact for more than a day or so. Most the work was done well. In a couple cases, I felt I really had to lean on him to lean on his subs. Specifically, the materials used in the cabinet package were defective. They should have been inspected when delivered and NEVER installed in the first place. It took a couple long and frustrating months to get the situation corrected. I realize Pete had to convince his sub to stand by his product, but isn't that why you hire a GC? In the final analysis, the cabinets look good, but it was a very rough road to get there. One still isn't right, but it is no longer worth the hassle. Second, after the unit was painted, we decided the color was wrong. We paid for a second coat in a slightly different color. While we paid full price for the second coat, it is very clear much less care was taken (paint splatter, very thin coverage, lack of neatness). That was disappointing. There were a couple punch list items we decided to correct ourselves. The work was done at a ski condo at Snoqualmie pass. Pete did a great job managing the project within the challenges a condo HOA can present. He really shined at that. He and his fellows are good, decent, caring guys who are as honest as they come. His price was reasonable for the quality of work performed. He met, though did not exceed my expectations.

I agree that the custom cabinets were a source of frustration to all of us. The defects in the veneer surface did not present themselves until several months after completion and it did take some time to go thru the steps of figuring out why that happened and getting replacement parts made and installed. Fortunately that timing was off season at a ski condo so it didn't seem a rush. In the end it was well done and fixed under warranty which we stand by.

I called Pete because the drop down stairs to my attic would not close. They are about 30 years old and I assumed they needed replacing. The mechanism that closes them had become undone and would not close. Pete came out and took a look. He said he could probably fix for much less than the cost of replacement. He suggested he do that and if the repair didn't hold, he would credit me the cost of the repair on the price to replace with a new set. He completed the repair and it is working great. No problems at all. It took them a while to work us into the schedule because the repair was small and not emergent so I agreed to just wait for him to come out when he was in the area. Thank you Pete, you saved us several hundred dollars. I will definitely use Excel again.
Description of Work: Repaired drop down attic stairs.

They did a good job. This was an ongoing project that took maybe a couple of weeks. They completed in an appropriate amount of time considering the amount of things they did. They are conscientious, reliable, and charged a fair price for quality work.
Description of Work: They did some water proofing on a wall. They repaired a deck and built a small 4x6 deck on my garage. They also installed door two.

At first we were very impressed by the owner (Pete). He was soft spoken, intelligent, knowledgeable and explained his strategy for doing the repairs with references to his past experiences doing similar kinds of structural repairs. He was patient in explaining the issues, sent an estimate immediately and his quote was reasonable, compared to other contractors. He was honest about when he could start and worked out the dates with our schedule. Our appreciation for Pete and his team continued to be based on excellent professionalism and excellent quality of workmanship. This combined with a continuing effort to maintain clear and accurate communications and consultations about the work and new issues which emerged kept us in the decision loop, made us feel well informed, confident and able to follow the precise nature of all the work. We appreciated this very high quality of management and direct communication with us. We also appreciated the high qualtiy of craftmanship exhibited by the two main carpenters, Javier and John who were punctual, responsive and made every effort to produce a high quality of craftmanship in all aspects of the job. Besides they were pleasant and congenial, which was an added plus. More structural repairs than had initially been anticipated were clear when the interior walls were open. Pete immedialtey came to the site to inspect the work with Javier and John and included us in their problem solving. They listened to our requests and made sure they were implemented. Our sun room has been repaired. It looks lovely and we are very happy with the results. In the process, John noticed that our window screen holders needed to be replaced. Pete told us where to purchase them and John installed them the last day they were at our home. This is one specific example of this entire team going a little bit further to do the best job for their clients. We would use them again and would highly recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Excel opened up the wall on the back of our breakfast/sun room, inspected the structural status, did structural repairs, replaced insulation and installed new cedar shingles. They then worked from the inside. They constructed braces to support the large window sun room ceiling, opened up the interior wall, inspected the entire structure, removed any compromised lumber, carefully replaced all necessary lumber and did structural repairs. They closed the inside wall, stained new cedar moulding and replaced the moulding.

The initial meeting went well, Peter scheduled the meeting a few short days after I called. I made arrangements to take the time off work to meet with him. The meeting went well, and he committed to provide an estimate in a few days, and he could start the job in a few weeks. I followed up 2 weeks later to ask about the status of the estimate, he said he would have it early the following week. Another 2 weeks passed and I sent a 2nd follow up request, which has now resulted in my unsatisfactory review of his company's poor responsiveness, punctuality and professionalism. Very unprofessional, and not someone I would ever trust now. If you can't do the work due to time or other issues, just let the customer know in a timely fashion. Unfortunately, this is a trend I continue to experience on Angie's List.
Description of Work: Peter was quick to respond to the request to come out and bid on interior project and a large exterior project, unable to deliver an estimate and did not keep his word.
