Mr. Grassley responded the same day to my inquiry and we scheduled a site visit for later in the week. He arrived on time for our appointment. He spent about an hour taking measurements and assessing the situation. He gave me a verbal high level report on the spot and told me he'd get me a written report by the end of the next business day. The report was thorough and professional. I was extremely impressed with the level of knowledge Mr. Grassley has, his professionalism and the resulting recommendations he provided. He also provided recommendations for contractors he felt comfortable would do a good job for me. He is a gem and I'd use him again in a heartbeat.

Excellent Service. Eli inspected a home that we wanted to buy. The seller wanted to sell the home as is. So it was especially important to know if there were any hidden structural issues- things that wouldn't show up on a standard home inspection. Eli's extremely thorough inspection made us confident about making the home purchase. We would definitely use him again.

I called on the 20th, Eli made time for a site visit on the 21st, and sent a very professional report on the 22nd. I am very happy with the report. He addressed exactly the issues that I asked, and more. He analyzed the existing sub-structure, found some inadequacies, made very manageable recommendations for solutions including materials and methods. I'm glad I called him and would definitely call again.

I wanted to know of any load bearing concerns on one of our exterior walls as well as on one interior wall before hiring a contractor to poke a hole in the side of our house and insert an exterior door. Eli came out (said he could be here between 2-3 and called at 3 to say he would be late; I would have wanted that call a little earlier but no big deal), was very professional, and performed a site inspection. Everything went well. He even climbed up in the attic as part of the inspection. The 3D drawings were adequate considering the ballpark number of hours (a "few") we agreed beforehand he would spend, and he offered his services in the future for further refinements. I look forward to working with him again in the if I have any structural engineering questions about our remodel.

Eli went above and beyond what I had asked him to look at, which was great. He provided a report on what I had initially been concerned about, and recommended more than one way to handle the issue. He also provided information about the rest of our home and recommendations regarding other improvements we might make. Given the age of the home, I feel more at ease knowing that there are actions we can take regarding the safety of our structure!! Thank you!

Service was fast, friendly, and proffesional. Price was fair and the report was completed on time. What more could you ask for? When I need an engineer in the future I will go to ESG design first.

We were in a pinch with our architect. The longer we worked with him, the more we realized that he did not know what he was doing. We call ESG after waiting 6 weeks for the architect to figure simple load and beam calculations that was holding up the permit process. We called Eli at ESG on a Friday afternoon and explained our situation. Eli said he would call back later to see how quickly he could come out. Eli was able to look at our project that Sunday and had our calculations and plans fixed by Wednesday morning. This was about the same time it took for our architect to give us the number for his recommended engineer. We found Eli to be very proffessional, honest, and easy to work with. He gave us a ballpark estimate of $500 (based on $120 per hour) for the project we discribed over the phone. After looking at the project in person, doing a few extra calculations, and giving advice on a future project, the final bill came to $540. We thought this was fair to say the least.

Eli was prompt, thorough and communicated well. He has a good sense of what is practical-- it is easy enough to recommend completely rebuilding, or tearing down-- but Eli takes what is given in the house and makes the best of it. Our house can't be practically brought to modern standards but we can make some reasonable improvements and we were happy with the suggestions Eli made.

We contacted Eli at ESG-Design based on several positive reviews here on Angie's List. Initial contact was mid-November, and Eli was able to make a site visit within a few days. He took several photos of the existing structure, and careful measurements of all pertinent structural components. Due to the design of our home, he was able to determine that the walls we wanted to remove were support for the upper floor only, but had no bearing on roof loads. Our main concern was that any new beam installation would hopefully allow us to have one continuous, flat ceiling in the new, "opened up" room. Eli took all this information, and after about a week he provided us with several options for us to mull over. After several conversations via phone and email, we finally decided to have him create a design package that would allow us to do exactly what we had hoped to accomplish. Within a couple days, Eli was able to provide us with detailed drawings and all the associated design criteria for us to submit to our local permitting office once we decide whether or not we will actually proceed with the project. Overall, the whole experience went very well. From start to finish, Eli was a consummate professional, a good communicator, and thorough. Since providing us with the design package we've had a couple other questions that needed answering, and he's been very prompt in following up with his responses. He even made a change to part of the package (at our request), and because the update didn't take him very long, he didn't charge us for it. Now that's what we call great customer service! We would highly recommend his services to anyone, and would not hesitate to call upon him for other projects in the future.

Eli responded very quickly and professionally with a personal touch. He looked at what I was asking, gave me an estimate and then was good enough to work through some options with me. While I did not choose to go forward with the work yet I do plan on having Eli do the work when the time is right.

Called Eli to see about having him come out to look at our foundation. We had noticed some cracks in the slab of our walkout basement and had been experiencing some standing water on the patio area. I had already had three contractors out to give me estimates on repairing the foundation and the standing water issue. All three contractorss came back with different suggestions for what the problem was, so we decided that contacting a structural engineer was best. Eli was able to come out within the week of calling him. He had a last minute schedule change that wasn't going to work for us, so he agreed to come on out anyway as planned. He assessed the home and the concerns we had and was able to address and answer all our questions. He determined that the home wasn't sinking and the foundation cracks were normal for the age of our home. He was very thorough in giving us specific suggestions and examples for repairing the drainage issues we did have. Within two days of coming out he sent a complete written report with his recommendations including pictures of the problem areas of the house. He was professional and knowledgeable. He gaves us some piece of mind that our home wasn't going to fall apart and saved us tons of money in the process. We have some possible home remodeling in our future and I would contact him again without hesitation.

Eli took my existing drawing and converted to structual engineering drawing in order for me to obtain permit from the city.

It went really well. He was really straight-forward with me which was all I could ask for and guided me to make the right choice. If there's anything else I think I should say, it would be that he was a nice guy and he obviously understood the building inside out, literally. My project wasn't anything that unique relatively, so for me it was kind of a relief to have someone help me that was already familiar with it.

We contacted Eli at ESG Design regarding a shear wall we have in our kitchen. As part of a kitchen remodeling project we want to remove a shear wall, and need engineered drawings for the contractors to follow on how to deal with it. In addition, we need the drawings to submit to the city for a permit. Eli was very responsive, professional, and timely. After initially contacting him by phone, we made an appointment for him to come to our house to review the scope of work and look at the shear wall. He estimated 4-5 hours and let us know that it would be about a week and a half to finish and deliver the drawings. He contacted us a few days before the due date to set up an appointment to deliver the drawings to our home. When he delivered the drawings he also went through them with us to explain what the contractors will have to do. His estimated hours were accurate and we would certainly contact him again for any work that requires structural engineering.

Eli completed the engineering in a very timely manner. After obtaining the building permit, we realized that we didn't have adequate clearance under the beam so Eli reworked the engineering change very quickly for us. The beam was installed by the contractor and approved by the county.

Overall I am quite satisfied with the report that ESG was hired to compile. Eli Grassley was sensitive to my concerns and fair in his reporting. He showed his knowledge of building codes and design. His thorough report and recommended repairs will allow my new contractor to bring the deck into a safe condition.

Project went well. It is now constructed (by others) and it looks good.

Eli was great to work with. He listened to our ideas and designed the barn to meet our needs. He worked with the County to submit engineering blueprints and complete the permitting and answered every question the County had. He also performed inspections of the buildings during construction and was available to answer questions from our contractors. Eli helped us through the building process from start to finish and made it easy to build our dream horse property. We will definitely hire him again for our next construction or remodeling project.
