Great. Mark Bonsack did all the work himself. He was true to estimate, even with rain delays and equipment rental. He placed drains, etc. Finish work was great. We would definitely hire again.

Mark provided great service beginning with his bid, to the completion of the project. He communicated well and patiently listened to our vision offering up additional ideas and pictures of his work. He is personable and easy to work with. We are very happy with our driveway, which is the hit of our cul-d-sac. The six broomed squares are framed with beautifully stamped borders. If you are looking for a skillful concrete professional who, when needed, can think creatively out of the box and come up with great solutions, I would recommend Mark in a heart beat.

Mark, the company owner, provided design details for the project which filled out and improved on our original general ideas. The site was prepared and concrete poured in a single day, 17 days after we agreed on the bid. Form removal, washing, sealing, and cleanup were completed within the next week. Mark was personally on site working and supervising at all times through the entire project. He was professional and personable and was committed to providing results that would meet our approval. Mark's bid was lower than the other two bids we had, but based on our initial meeting with him and favorable company reviews, we would gone with him even if it had been a bit higher. We highly recommend him.

Mark is willing and able to offer expert suggestions both for enhanced looks and for budget-minded management but he won't offer - he'll only tell you if you ask. He starts early and is on site for the entire job - he doesn't delegate to a crew. His mixture of colored, stamped concrete features and brushed parking pads is exactly what we were hoping for and has been admired and praised by many friends and neighbors.

We only got two bids on this project and I think they came out better than the other guy. But we are re-thinking at this point because it's a lot of money to put out. They were really nice and accommodating and they totally understood where we were coming from. Our furnace had broken and it was the Fall, and we needed to put our money in that direction; our priorities changed. I think if we were to have it done, we would probably go with them over the other people because their bid was better. My husband is an engineer and listened to both bids, and I think he was more attuned to this guy and liked what he had to say.

Scheduled an appointment for an estimate for May 2nd between 1pm-3pm. I called and left a message for Mark at 3pm asking if he was still planning to show up. Never heard back. Send a message through Angie's List at 3:45pm to have them follow up to give an estimate, still haven't heard anything from them. Apparently they don't care about a project worth about $15k

Mark showed up the evening before they were to start to drop off supplies and some tools for the guys to have when they arrived in the morning. They showed up promptly at 8am and just behind them was a dumpster full of the gravel they needed for back filling where the patio was to go. We wanted it poured up to door height (about 18" from the ground) so they had to back fill that area with gravel. Within 3 hours all 14 tons of gravel were moved by wheelbarrow. Meanwhile someone had entirely broken up the old parking pads with a jack hammer. The old concrete was loaded into the dumpster and the area was graded for the pour two days later. While the dumpster was being loaded the sod was removed for the walkway and it was laid out and formed up. The next morning the dumpster was picked up and the rest of the forming completed. On pour day the concrete arrived on schedule and they had the entire driveway and walkway poured and finished in a few hours. After the pour they completed the forming and grading for the patio. A day or two later the patio was poured and stamped with the color/pattern we chose. They returned after the 72 hour curing window to acid wash and seal the patio. The guys left a pile for Mark to pick up and within a day or two the equipment was picked up and no mess was left. We are extremely happy with the work they did. The guys are hard working and were flexible to a couple of small changes we requested along the way. I recommend them to anyone asking about concrete!

We really enjoyed working with Mark and Architectural Concrete. Mark came out soon after I contacted him to look at the project. He submitted a bid that night and made a few adjustments at my request, such as letting me know the price difference if we did the demo work ourselves and also adding a little more square footage when we adjusted the shape of the path from the original curving design to a more angular, modern look. He also left materials about different stamp patters and dye color options. We hired the company to do the work and set a date for just after Christmas. We decided to do the demo work and Mark even recommended a company to us (which we ended up using) that would deliver and pick up a dumpster to put all the old asphalt and concrete into. The crew showed up on the agreed-upon day to build the forms. Due to weather (it was below freezing at night) the concrete work was delayed for a week or so but Mark kept me updated on the timeline. When the weather conditions were right - dry and not too cold - the crew was back out there and did a terrific job! They let the concrete cure for a few days then came back to seal it. The walkway looks great, they did a good job of cleaning up, the crew was friendly. Our new driveway isn't anything fancy but it's so nice and smooth and is a HUGE improvement over the old asphalt. We were very happy with Architectural Concrete and have shared their info with a few admiring neighbors already!
Description of Work: We had them build forms and pour/stamp five new stairs from the sidewalk up to the walkway, the walkway up to our porch steps, and an offshoot of the walkway that goes around the side of our house. We also had them pour a new brushed concrete driveway.

This was a large project to really reshape part of our yard and make the backyard have usable space. I got 6 bids from different contractors and ultimately decided to go with Mark and his crew. Working with Mark was great. He answered tons of questions from me before, during, and after the work was completed. Some parts of the project were not 100% planned prior to starting such as the length and direction of some paths. Once we got started Mark and I talked though options. He always would give me the difference in cost. When it was time to pay the bid was the bid there were no hidden charges. After the project was done I hired another contractor to install iron railings. While the railings were nice the contractor damaged some of the patio. I called Mark and he took care of it.
Description of Work: Created large poured concrete u shaped retailing wall on the backyard slope. Poured large patio on top of that. Leveled side yard with 2nd retaining wall. Created steps from side yard to backyard. Created two new paths and new patio out front of the house. All was stamped and stained concrete.

The Architectural Concrete bid was done via email from Marc Bonsack and his email bid ended up being the contract, i.e., he provided no ?official? contract to sign. We were not entirely comfortable with that because his email bid provided minimal explanation of the proposed work and no warrantee, etc. information. However, after meeting with Marc we felt we could go ahead with the project, since he seemed professional, his business is local to our town, the bid was reasonable, and we all agreed on the work to be performed. The Architectural Concrete crew arrived promptly the day the work was scheduled to begin and the driveway demolition proceeded quickly. After Marc showed us color swatches, we decided we would go with a darker gray/brown concrete color to match the trim or our house. The concrete was then colored and poured promptly after completing the demolition. Clean up was completed in a timely manner. However, once the brushed concrete dried, the color came out a pinkish color, definitely not what we wanted (and it wasn?t close to the color swatch we had chosen). As a result of our continued displeasure with the concrete color, Marc made several attempts over the next couple of months to darken the concrete color by spraying gray sealer on the brushed concrete. However, the result was a splotchy effect that really didn?t change the pinkish color of the brushed concrete. As a result, Marc agreed not charge us for the concrete color treatment. Additionally, within a month of the concrete being poured, we noticed some cracks. Architectural Concrete (Marc) indicated they should have added more stress grooves, i.e., in the large areas of brushed concrete, and also in the long walkway pours. Additional stress grooves would have allowed the inevitable stress cracking as the concrete cured to be relatively unnoticed. However, as it is, the cracks are noticeable (particularly when it rains). We are waiting until spring to try to find options to correct the brushed concrete color, and see if any further cracking occurs with the colder winter weather and rain. In hind-sight, having a signed contract that explained Architectural Concrete?s obligations with respect to problems, such as unsatisfactory concrete coloring and cracking, would have been very helpful.
Description of Work: Architectural Concrete replaced our 75 foot long driveway (leading up to a three car garage) and the walkway to our front porch. They demolished our existing aggregate driveway and front walkway and replaced it with a new “colored” brushed concrete driveway with two foot aggregate boarders. The walkway was replaced with “colored” aggregate concrete too.

There were several factors which came into play with respect to [member name removed] project. 1) Since I don't require a deposit or any type of payment until the job is complete, I use email to outline the scope of work and cost as well as answer any questions about the process. This way there is no risk to you as a homeowner and you get to see the finished project before any payment is made. This is the first and only time that there has been any issue with this method 2) Prior to the demolition of the existing driveway [member name removed] pointed out an area that had caved in due to some sort of pre existing issue. Once we removed the concrete there was no obvious cause as to why it happened so we agreed to add extra reinforcing to that area. Once repoured a crack developed directly to the side of the original damaged area. Even with the reinforcing we added throughout the driveway there is obviously an underground issue which is causing movement in the subgrade. There is no way to completely avoid minor cracking with this issue and the cracking in [member name removed] driveway is minor considering the size of it. It is our sincere effort to avoid all cracking with our work but sometimes it is beyond our control. 3) The color issue I struggle with on occasion. Any time color is added, especially the browns, the final color depends solely on the concrete company having a consistent mix so the color is consistent. In this instance, something in the mix caused the concrete to turn off brown and not true to the color chip. I have since discontinued using that specific color as this was the second time it has happened. It isn't an issue when stamping but seems to happen when using a broom finish. As mentioned I didn't charge [member name removed] for the color as it wasn't what was represented. All in all a B grade is reasonable not what we are accustomed to or aim for but as I mentioned, there were factors beyond our control. I will say that in all honesty I think the driveway looks very nice and we have had two of [member name removed] neighbors that have hired us to do their concrete projects this spring based on our work at [member name removed]

Working with Architectural Concrete was a pleasure. Mark responded quickly to my request for an estimate and provided a thorough and competitive bid. Although they were booked up near-term, we set a start date a few months out. Their planning must be pretty good, because we ended up starting the project on time. Once the project started, Mark's crew worked consistently and diligently and the project progressed quickly. I had some rough designs sketched out of what I wanted to see and Mark took the time to make sure he understood what I wanted and checked in with me at each stage to make sure I was happy. In some cases, my design thoughts were not optimal / practical and Mark was able to provide some good feedback so that the proper adjustments could be made. Even when the project was complete, Mark came back to make some final tweaks to make sure I was happy. Mark's crew (3 to workers) on the Architectural Concrete team were all skilled and knew their roles. They worked well as a team, which resulted in a successful project that was completed in a timely manner.

Mark was absolutely fabulous. I've hired out many small concrete jobs over the years, and this was the smoothest (no pun intended) AND cheapest. I asked half a dozen concrete firms (all from Angie's list) for a bid based on a very specific job I needed done (front porch and sidewalks coming off of it three ways, a total of about 250 square feet of concrete coverage). I needed the porch pad poured the exact right height to set the stairs on, two of the sidealks out to the side had to match up with existing sidewalks, and the third went out ot the road. It wasn't complicated, but it wasn't simple either. A number of the firms either didn't answer at all or gave the polite version of "we don't do small jobs." Mark provided a prompt estimate, and when I expressed interest, came out to discuss it in detail. He showed up on time, was polite and professional, and gave me two different prices based on my askinng what it would cost if I set the forms myself. The "Mark does everything" full price was still less than the other bids I got, so I said let's do it. He fit the job in less than a week after I committed. He showedup when he said he would. He and his helper dug out where needed, placed the forms, conferred with me several times to make absolutely sure I was gettinng what I wanted. They started at 8 a.m. and finished by 4 p.m. In summary, the job was exactly what I wanted, was the cheapest bid by a significant percentage, was completed quickly and on time, and was done totally right with excellent quality. I WILL use Mark (Architectural Concrete, Inc) for the next two jobs I have coming up, and I probably won't even bother to get competing bids. When you find an honest, hard-working guy like this, you stick with him. And I would not hesitate in any way to recommend that others use him.

I had sent Mark some photographs for a walkway that I needed installed. He gave me a bid and I later called him about doing some driveway panels and some foundation work at a rental house that is about 15 min. from my residence. He agreed to come and look at my job and then go to the rental from there to give me an additional bid. He said he would call me with the time after he was finished with his other work, but sometime after 3pm. He was a no show and no call. Very disappointing and I would not recommend based on my experience.

As I journey toward the "Golden years" I find myself losing things...memory, eyesight, hearing...which is not in the brochure! I am hoping there is a plan in Obamacare that will fix this situation. Occasionally, I do forget to call back, miss an appointment or forget to transfer info to my daytimer for which I apologize. It is very hectic this time of year and I get a little overwhelmed. If you call back and remind me of my error you will always get an additional discount on your project as my way of making up for your inconvenience. If you want to come here and give us a bad review for an honest mistake, then we probably didn't want to work for you anyway. Mark

The patio was very nice looking; we really liked it. Mark did a great job of removing a huge tree root next to the patio which raised up the surface and cracked the old patio badly. However, the steps and the landings from the patio to the doors were a big disappointment! A lot of cracks are on the landings (the top of the stairs) of various sizes, some are really visible. We felt very embarrassed when people came and asked about the quality of the job. Someone even asked if we should hire another contractor to fix it! To be fair, Mark was responsive and tried to fix the cracks. However, the way he fixed it was only filling the cracks with the thin set powder, but the cracks are still there and very visible. He said he put a lot of rebars and wire mesh on the steps and landings, so it shouldn't crack, and that he's never seen it before.
Description of Work: They removed the old patio concrete, the steps, and poured new concrete for the patio, the steps to the doors from the patio, and the walk path from the front to the patio.
