Jared Lord, owner of Paul Haugen Construction, and his crew are outstanding. They are dependable, honest and do excellent work. Jared's labor and countertop cost for our project was $21, 473,65 (appx. $9K under budget). Our new cabinets, sink, stove top, range hood, tile and garbage disposal were separate costs that we paid for. Regardless, the total cost was below $50K for our beautiful and functional new kitchen.
Description of Work: Jared's crew removed our old cabinets, counters, backsplash and appliances. They then did some electrical, gas and water modifications. After the new cabinets (purchased and built by Erichsen Cabinet Shop, were installed, his crew did tile work, oversaw the new counter installation, installed a pot filler, sink, garbage disposal, gas stove top and range hood. They then reinstalled our appliances (except for the old down draft cooktop).

I highly recommend this team. Jared is a pleasure to work with. He communicates well, checking in on all phases of the work to ensure we were in sync and there were no surprise bills. The work was top notch from his team. I searched for a year to find a contractor that I was comfortable with and was thrilled to find Jared and Haugen. I will use them again for future projects and recommend them to neighbors and friends.

Our project included removing tub, removing and replacing double shower, painting walls and ceiling, installing tile throughout, replacing kitchen sink, replacing light fixtures, plus. We could not be more pleased with the results and how the work went. The crew is great, always pleasant, never heard a curse word, cleaned up daily and worked efficiently. We are very pleased with Erika's tile installation- a perfectionist. This project took a little longer than expected but it went well and we will be hiring again in near future. We definitely feel comfortable recommending Paul Haugen Construction Company.

Jared and his team did an amazing job. From start to finish, it was clear they wanted to make sure we got what we wanted. Jared worked with us to come up with the design, and the team were all great to work with. They continuously kept us informed of what they were doing, and if something needed adjusting after it was done, they were very quick to make any requested changes. The job included removing a window, and re-sizing two others; replacing siding on the exterior and matching our existing paint; re-sizing the living room archway; replacing kitchen and bath flooring with tile; removing a bathtub, re-arranging the bathroom and adding a large shower; moving a tankless water heater from outside to inside; re-routing gas and water for the washer and dryer; installing new appliances; installing cabinets and quartz countertops. I highly recommend this company and will be hiring them again for future projects.
Description of Work: Our goal was to have our very small kitchen and bath re-designed to maximize the existing footprint.

We highly recommend Paul Haugen Construction company. Their work was excellent. Everyone at the company proven to be helpful, skillful, reliable and knowledgeable. They worked with us on tile selection and layout and with all our questions. The installation crew members were friendly, very considerate and accommodating during the long project. They worked with our schedules and needs. They even brought in and set up our TV early so we didn’t have to wait until the project was completely done to watch TV. We also trusted them enough to leave them to work on the project while we left for a beach vacation. They worked for us on a bathroom remodeling project that included building a new shower in our previous house. It was so successfully that we hired them later to do a large 1700 sq ft tiling project in our new home. The project included installing heating elements under the tile, laying new tile, installing trim and some wall modifications. We would definitely hire them for a future project.

Our project was a home repair project. We contacted Paul Haugen Construction ,LLC, and met with Jared Lord the company owner. Based upon construction plans, he identified the work that needed to be completed and once we agreed to the work prepared a contract for the project to complete it in a timely manner. Jared agreed to serve as our General contractor on the project. The parameters for the project were to replace our current lower patio with a reinforced concrete slab, reconstruct the support structure that sat on the patios slab and supported an upper porch/ deck, replace a cathedral window wall, and replace the existing porch/deck railing and construct in its place a stainless wire/cedar railing system. The existing lower concrete patio had cracked which caused movement in the supports f9r the overall porch/deck support structure to move which in turn caused the glass window wall next to the upper porch/deck to crack. They needed to realign and replace the main window mullions holding large window panes, then work with the commercial glass subcontractor to ensure accurate pricing, ordering, and installation. Once structural plans for the project were completed by a structural engineer, we reviewed the Plans with the contractor. He spent a good deal of time reviewing the project plans with us to indicate how he would proceed with the project, making sure we understood the required work. Most importantly he explained how he and his crew would coordinate with us, and the work his team would perform, and the work to performed by the subcontractors. He went over the payment process and how he would make payment requests at several stages in the project. Once they started, we met his crew who were excellent to work with and kept us informed about the work as they went along. They also kept us informed all along the project and about any changes. The crew was very friendly and went out of their way to answer any questions we had. When on the job site they informed us of and any delays that we might expect. Jared also worked with our Insurance company to ensure the work met insurance requirement for covered portions of the work. We are very satisfied with the results of the project which remained within budget and gave our home more structural integrity and significantly improved the appearance ofvb the house. We have had nothing but compliments about the project. I would recommend Jared’s company to anyone who needed residential remodel or repair work. Total Project cost : $ 45,000.00

One of the best contractors we've ever worked with. Great work, professional interactions, strong feel for aesthetics, and, most importantly, really good people. They went above and beyond on our project, and even came back to fix an issue months later and didn't charge us for it. We cannot recommend them enough.

In early January I hired Paul Haugen Construction to install new counters, cabinets, sinks and windows in my kitchen, replace the hot water heater, install porcelain tile, and a new door and frame, in the laundry room, and paint the two-story entry room to my 1907 house. And install all new appliances when everything else was done. From our very first meeting and throughout the entire process, I was very impressed with Jared’s knowledge and ability to immediately understand what I wanted, and pragmatically approach exactly how the work could be accomplished (or not) within my budget. He and his team delivered exceptional, quality work, despite encountering a few surprise challenges (it’s an old house), and were always friendly and cheerful to work with. I especially appreciated that Jared was responsive to my concerns and notified me immediately if they encountered any situations. And the finish work they did in my kitchen is gorgeous! All work was completed in time for me to move in, and for a very reasonable overall cost. Not only would I recommend Paul Hagen Construction, I would give them 10 stars!!!

Their demolition work was sloppy. Their installation was above average. I think they did the best job they could. I would recommend them to other people. He's a good guy, honest and he worked with me. The labor was pretty standard. I don't have any complaints with the pricing. It was a big job. They have some good people.

Paul was easy to work with and extremely responsive to inquiries I had throughout the project. His crew were professional and cleaned up every day. Project took a little longer than expected but final results were exactly what we were looking for (large patio cover, recessed lights, ceiling fan, wood underneath patio ceiling, rock columns and much larger patio (2x the size). We would use Paul and his crew again.

It was a transformation of a blank wall with a fireplace in the center, to a wonderful architectural centerpiece for our living room. We are so pleased! We showed Jared a picture of what I was striving for, and he and his crew worked hard to make it happen. This was our 3rd time using Paul Haugen Construction, and as before, he and his crew were skilled, efficient, and great to work with. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this company to anyone; know that if we need any more work done they will be our first choice!

Well this was a total waste of my time. I contacted Paul to set up an appointment for the following week. The day of the appointment rolls around and he is a no show. I called to find out if he was going to show and he said he forgot and was on his way. An hour later he showed up all the while I am later and later for work. Once he arrived he didn't take a single measurement of my kitchen or have any input or feedback. He said my counters and cabinets would cost about 10,000 but the overall job would be about 60,000. Not sure where the other 50,000 was going. He then said he would email me links to all of his cabinets and potential options but I never got a single thing from him. Not sure why he is rated so high on here unless he pays Angie's list for that. It was a total disappointment and a waste of my time.

Response from Paul Haugen Construction LLC
I really must apologize to this customer number one for being late and the other for making them late for work. Being too busy should not be an excuse and I do not use it. In this case I made assumptions that the customer had plenty of time as I did not know they were late for work. The other problem was that I assumed they were in the planning stages and had not made any definitive choices regarding layout of the kitchen or other items. We discussed a number of "What if we did this" situations. The conversation including cabinets, flooring, window changes, exit door changes, hallway pantry additions etc. For the first visit it was a great deal to put into a proposal. I did not do any measurements because I prefer to work with the customer on layout and their wishes. I normally will do this after a visit or two. The customer did ask for a ball park estimate of all the work and as stated I estimated around 60K. When a customer asks for a ballpark cost I will always figure higher than lower as I am not a company that low balls bid, honesty is important. I know that they wanted the proposal to be around 20-25K and with all the work this would not work out. With this in mind I certainly apologize for their disappointment and wasting their time. I make every effort to be courteous and honest with every customer, apparently I failed. I will use this information to better the company and be more responsive to customers. I do not charge for estimate or proposals.

Paul offered a lot of ideas on design and was able to keep the cost down to what we could afford and still managed to get us all our must haves. He also made sure the work was done quickly so we were not forced to live without a functional kitchen for too long. They started quickly once we signed the contract and made the process as unobtrusive as possible, even helping me pack up the old kitchen. The finished product looks great. I wish I had did a bit more pre-design planning on some of the finishes, but overall we are very happy with the work and it has really added value to our home and make it much more functional for our family. They also were good to follow up right away when we had an outlet fail a couple months later--they came right over and worked on it until they found the problem and fixed it.
Description of Work: Complete kitchen and mudroom remodel including taking out an existing wall, retiling floors and putting in brand new countertops, cabinets, pantry, and several new appliances including refitting for gas range with hood. It went very smoothly.. Demo was done on the guest bathroom first as it need the least amount of work done. Once that bath was done, we moved out of the master and they demoed that bath and began the work on that one. It went like clockwork. The team was friendly, professional, courteous, had great customer skills, I had no problem inviting them into my house. Paul was fair and knew I had a tight budget and he kept to that budget.

Waited 6 days and called him back. Said he forgot. Came out for the estimate 5 days later. Measured and took my drawing, said he get me an estimate. This customer is totally accurate. We did fail on providing him with a proposal that would meet his time line. This is a totally busy season and we do our best but in this case we failed. I do apologize and we will work to make this situation better. The customer was apparently demanding a definite time line which I could not provide.
