I contacted several companies for my kitchen remodel and ended up choosing Haugen construction. Paul responded to my house on a Sunday and gave me an estimate for the work. Paul was very professional and polite and did not try any hard sales tactics. Paul gave me an estimate in person and later sent a written estimate for the exact details of the work to be done. Paul's estimate was same amount as the other companies but it was for much more work. Other companies estimated 15,000 for simply countertops and cabinets, while Paul's quote included, much more. I chose Paul because he was local, had a good price and could get the job done faster than any of the other companies. The job ended up taking a little longer than we thought it was estimated but the end product was great. All of the employees who worked at my house were very professional and kept their work area clean at the end of each of the days. At the start of each work day the lead contractor Jarrod asked if everything was looking ok. If I requested changes he had no problems fixing anything that came up without adding money on the estimated cost of the job. I enjoyed working with Paul and his employees and look forward to doing business with them in the future for other projects we have in mind for our home.

Paul came out and is very personable. We really liked him. He was to get back to us with ideas for our kitchen and a starting bid. We were really excited to work with him. Well, Paul never called us back and we never heard from him again. He told us to "bug" him if we didn't hear from him. I told him if you want to do the job you need to contact us. |Long story short we went with Randall Construction who followed through on a bid and worked with us on our design. We are happy with our outcome.

Apparently this customer did not receive our emailed bid. We do not normally contact customers after sending the proposal but rather wait for them to respond after looking over all their bids. We do tell customers to call us if they did not receive a bid within a reasonable time. I am not sure where the bid went or what happened to it. Since we did not hear from them we assumed that the bid was given to another company. It has been over ten months since this bid was let and is no longer in our records. The project was an excellent one and we certainly wish that the communication had been better. It really is not our policy to turn away good projects.

Paul's bid had been a bit higher than we hoped and we choose a lower cost contractor. Before the other contractor started he disappeared and became non-responsive. (Thankfully we had not paid.) We called Paul back and he was gracious. We made a few bid modifications so we had the price we needed. I was very pleased with Paul's ability to work with us. The project started on time and progressed exactly as we had expected for the first several weeks. The only real problem was the quality of Paul's sheet-rock subcontractor. They delayed the project on two occasions by doing shoddy work. In each case Paul quickly inspected the work, completely supported us in our dissatisfaction, and resolved the problems. Paul reports that this sub has been reliable in the past. My belief in Paul stems from his genuine commitment to client satisfaction and his ethical compass that is true as can be. Our foreman, Jerod, is top-notch. Finances were completely ethical. His request for draws and settlement were always appropriate and occurred as work was completed. At no time did I feel I was extended too far in my payments. Importantly, communication was timely, professional and effective. Communication is one of the most important skills for a contractor and this firm did a great job. We are very pleased with our project and will gladly rehire Paul Haugen Construction.

He came in and looked around. It was like a five-minute interview and it was kind of weird. It was like he just decided by looking at my house that he didn’t want to work here because he never came back with an estimate or anything. My husband said that he didn’t like to work this far south. He did come down but I felt like I was beneath him which I was not. He was here on time.

We certainly apologize if this is the impression that was left. It not our intention to create an undesirable situation. When going out to do the walk thru I realized that it was a considerable distance from our home base. After looking at the traffic situation around the air base and army base we determined that we would be spending too much time traveling. It was also my understanding that they were seeking many more bids from local builders and perhaps this is a job for some one close by. I did call and inform them that the project was out of our immediate area and that we would not be the lowest cost.

crew was on time each day worked. poor communication between crew & Paul ref. days to work & what was to be completed by date. Quality of work (finishing details- had to closely supervise & redo several poorly done finishes. cat eyes in paint after two coats applied (had painter come back and do 3rd coat), door sill transition 1/8" gap at door moldings (not flush), sheet rock not flush with existing window & door trim (surface 1/8" to 1/2" above trim edges. When question about difference in height, Paul's answer; nothing to worry about, you can twist door & window trim & extra nails to hold. Paul did not want to redo sheet rock to correct botched installation. Found out new water supply pipes were not secured inside walls, when cleaning around shutoff valves (valves & pipe moved 1" back & forth). Had crew chief come back to redo final cleaning ( I placed blue tape at all defects) paint on new tub/shower walls, tape mud in tub & on walls, vanity & cabinet doors not aligned, leak at toilet fittings. I will say this for crew; when here they worked. I would recommend that anyone hiring this company, have some knowledge about construction & basic building practices and keep check to ensure finished detail is good quality. for the price & Angie's rating, was disappointed.

We are truly appreciative of Mr. comments but really cannot understand his comments and reasoning as it has been over 10 months since the project was completed and we understood that he was quite happy with the remodel. Mr Moore has not contacted me since that time or expressed his concerns to me. Mr. had purchased all the materials to do the project and it was my understanding that he had planned to do it himself but then changed his mind. The tub surround was very thin plastic and thus was difficult to work with, not something we would normally put in a home. Mr. was on site every day watching over the project and providing ideas and guidance to the workers etc. We grew quite concerned because one day he was happy with every thing and the next day it wasn't and this made the project difficult for my workers. We made many extra trips, extra days and did extra work to make sure he was happy with the project so we had no idea he was unhappy. In the end Mr. was presented with his balance on the firm labor bid and he willingly paid for the job and expressed his happiness with the project. If he was unhappy he should not have paid the final bill. I do wish the he would have contacted us with his concerns immediately rather than waiting 10 months. It is always our desire to have our customers 100% satisfied and if they are not we need to know right away. I cannot understand why an unsatisfied customer would wait 10 months to write this type of review?,

Karin and I purchased a two bedroom "cabin" on 1/2 acre in the Lake Limerick Golf Community near Shelton, Washington. This place had been sitting as simply an empty shell for many years and the prior owner had "self contracted" the work that was completed. The interior was just two by fours and unfinished wiring and plumbing before we purchased it but, Karin and I saw something in this place and after discussing it over with a number of different contractors, we found Paul Haugan on Angie,s list. Paul saw what we saw and more. This project was much more than a simple remodeling job, this was a complete renovation. Paul has a crew of seasoned professionals who's talent belie their youth and all aspects of that talent were brought to bear on this project from framing to finish. The final product bears little resemblance to the original structure. From the inside out, for all appearances, this is new construction. Except for some minor issues with the subs, we are extremely happy with the results and would certainly recommend Paul Haugan Construction to anyone looking for help remodeling.

He did a thorough walk through and pointed out many things I hadn't noticed before. He was friendly and professional. Unfortunately, a day or two later Paul apologetically said that he could not meet our time schedule for the work since we wanted to move into the house within a month. It was the busy season for construction and I understood completely. I will not hesitate to get a bid from Paul again for future products since his obvious experience and expertise shone through during our one meeting.

Paul is wonderful to work with and helps ensure your project is as cost effective as possible. He went with us to pick out cabinets and provided very accurate estimates of the materials we needed. The ones we purchased directly -tile backsplash - we had very little leftover and he gave us pointers on each project what to order and was very positive on making things happen. None of this...." Ohhh that's going to be a lot of work". We've done very extensive remodels at an older home so we know the ropes. It's important to have a positive perspective contractor because you're bound to run into things with remodels. It's good to have someone that can think outside of the box. The crew you work with is just as important as the contractor. You have to " live" with them throughout the remodel. Paul's crew is awesome! They gave us great pointers throughout our kitchen remodel...we went with every recommendation they gave. They were punctual, reliable & even did a couple extra things for us after the projects since they were there. Paul hardly charged us anything for the extra items. We felt so comfortable with Paul and his crew we even let them work on the kitchen remodel while we were gone on an overseas trip. Something we have only done one other time with a contractor after years of working with them. We plan to do a project with Paul every summer or every other at the very least. We would strongly recommend using their company. Reliable, efficient (they completed all of our projects in a month!) and cost effective...you can't ask for much more than that!
Description of Work: We had Paul and his crew convert a large closet to a powder bath - install a closet that we wanted to convert from an office to a bedroom - and remodel our kitchen.

Paul started off with a home visit to do a walk through and to give us a rough idea if our ideas were realistic. A few days later Paul emailed me a quote, a couple weeks later work began on the first bathroom. We were warned up front that his crew was working on a bigger project the same time our project was going on. Paul and his team were very good at communicating what was going on, what was needed and if work was or was not going to be happening. They coordinated all the permits and inspections with the Town of Steilacoom. The first bathroom was completed in about 3 weeks. Work for the master bath begin immediately the following week and also took about 3 weeks. Once again, Paul and his team were very good at communicating with me through phone calls, texts and emails throughout the project. I left a lot of decisions up to his team and they did a great job listening to what I wanted and delivering. For example, I explained what I was looking for in a tub insert and a shower insert and they provided me with options I would have picked if I had the time to go look. They also picked out beautiful shower doors for that fit perfectly into the theme of the master bath. Paul was great to share his bathroom resources for us to shop around. After the both projects were completed the only thing that we needed someone to come back out and take a look at was a piece of texture that cracked off our ceiling in the master. It was repaired immediately and hasn't been a problem since. On the financial side, nothing was paid for at the time work began, about a week into each project a small deposit was paid and at the completion of each project the balance was paid.

We found Paul Haugen Construction on Angie's list. Paul gave us great advice on what we could do and how it would save money. We had already looked at 4 other contractors and were not feeling right about hiring them. Paul and his team are amazing. He would meet us at different vendors to help us pick out what we needed. His team came on time everyday, and cleaned up at the end of each day. Great communication, emailing, calling. He kept saying, he just wanted to make us happy. We are so happy with the results & the time it took to do it. They came in with a team to tear it all out, and everyday they had a team to put it back together. They were finished before the estimated time. The results are beautiful! We now have a beautiful master walk-in shower, 4" tub, granite counter tops, double sinks, heated tiles, remodeled walk in closet, and remodeled main bathroom. I will definitely call Paul Haugen Construction on our next remodel job.

The customer was an absolute pleasure to work with. Both her and her husband have had military careers and were looking for some help in their remodel. It all went very smooth. The customer knew what she wanted and how she wanted it done, and we did it. It is always a pleasure to work with military families and we like to go the extra mile to make their transition back to quieter times. It would be an honor to work with the customer and her husband on their next project. Paul Haugen
The crew Paul sent out was excellent. They were courteous , professional and very detail oriented. The job did not get finished as fast as we would have liked but the end result was well worth the wait. We were very pleased with the price as well as the quality of the workmanship.
Description of Work: We had our bathroom remodeled. The existing shower insert was removed and replaced with a new shower with a mud pan and tile walls. The linoleum floor was replaced with tile and the walls were textured and reprinted. The toilet was replaced along with all the the bathroom fixtures. All of the lighting fixtures were also replaced.

Paul applied two coats of the stain. The entire process took approximately 2 hours. In the year since the application, we've cleaned the sidewalk several times and it looks very good. No more ugly stains! We are quite happy with the results.
Description of Work: Our cement walkway had deteriorated considerably, showing lots of stains. Paul suggested a product called: NEWLOOK. The product comes in many colors. Once we decided on the color, it took less than 2 weeks before the job would be done. My husband thoroughly cleaned (pressure washed) the walkway and once completely dry, Paul applied 2 coats of the product. Curing time was about 4 hours or so. Our walkway looks very nice now; the color tone is even and we are most pleased. We actually saw Paul Haugen's work on our neighbor's new patio. So, we were confident that our much smaller and simpler job would be great.

Member and his wife were great to work with. We were able to meet and pick out the granite counter tops and the vanity for their bath remodel. Time was of the essence on this project as they had purchased the house and needed to move in with three weeks. We were able to accomplish this. Member was concerned about one of the drawers that had a dovetail joint that had cracked as well as a crack in the hinge side of the cabinet. We replaced all of the drawers and corrected the crack. Member pointed the items out to us and we gladly took care of them. I have provided Member with a one year warranty on the materials and labor and he seemed to be quite pleased with the outcome. They could not have been better. They helped to design the space so that the bathroom was roomy and used every inch of space for more storage. Paul, Jerad and crew had worked on our house last year when we remodeled the main bathroom. This was a much more complex space. We needed to find a home for our old bathtub that we had taken out of the old main bathroom. The bathtub was big and beautiful and very heavy so we needed to design a space to accomodate it. We also wanted the bathroom room to look like it belonged in a 1910 house so the tile, cabinets and fixtures were really important to get right. Everyone on the crew understood what we were trying to do, they made great suggestions and treated our house with respect. They were painstaking in making sure that everything was done well. Jerad, Derek and Jannine did a beautiful job on the tile work. They recreated the classic mosiac floor of the turn of the century. It looks fantastic. I would not hesitate to have them work on my house again. They were great to work with. Thank you.
Description of Work: Paul and his crew demolished our master bathroom , closet and part of an adjoining bedroom. Our three -story 100 year old house had plaster walls and elaborate moldings. We moved walls and made a full bathroom, a large walk in closet and configured the remaining room into a study. We needed to move plumbing lines, electrical lines and vents. When we were finished, the rooms looked like they have always belonged in the house.

Since I was doing part of the work myself, I was able to schedule Paul and his crew to perform work and supply material when I needed. They removed the supporting wall between the kitchen and living room and install the beam to support the roof. Then I did a bunch of work and they installed the floor (it looks great). I purchased the cabinets from Paul. Paul's advice on how I could do some of the work was invaluable. He and I discussed what needed to be done and whether he or I should do it. I have been very pleased with working with Paul and I would not hesitate to work with him again.

I hired Paul to remove the wall between the kitchen and the living room and install a beam to support the roof and install the porcelain floor tile. He supplied the cabinets. We recently renovated a home that was built in 1970. Paul gave us advice from the beginning of the process through the end. We found Paul on Angie's list last September. When we started our renovation, we were still living in Wisconsin and contracting the work ourselves. Paul was nice enough to check in on the progress of our home while we had the home insulated, rewired, and a new roof put on. He even checked on the house during an ice storm! We can't say enough good things about Paul and his team!
Description of Work: We hired Paul to paint the interior of our freshly drywalled home, tile a powder room and two full bathrooms. The tile work was beautifully done! Where a bedroom once was, we have a master bath with a walk-in shower. In another bathroom, where there was previously a small metal shower, we have a soaking tub with a tile surround. Paul's team also hung several interior doors and trimmed windows and doors. My only regret was not having a seat installed in the walk-in shower before it was tiled, but that was our fault for not communicating in advance. Sometimes it's hard to think of everything!

The customer and her husband recently moved to the area and needed the work done as soon as possible. They were very helpful and really took over most of the planning for the remodel. I know it became far more extensive than they had hoped for but in the final outcome they have a beautiful view home over looking the bay. Paul Haugen

Member is absolutely correct in her statements. We have let her down with no real excuse. This was a very small job for us but a very big job for her and for that we certainly apologize. With our work load we just did not get to her job in time. We pride ourselves on responding and completing every Angie's list referral and in this case it did not happen. I have not heard from Member, other than her last phone call and this review, I have not been able to have a service man out in her area, but we would certainly lilke to go ahead and install her microwave for her if she is still wanting to have it done. It is truly not our intention or our practice to let a customer down. Paul Haugen

Paul Haugen and his workers do most excellent work! Everybody that worked for him was great to have around. His construction crew leader (Jerod) was very knowledgeable and conscientious. All work was done as quickly and cleanly as possible. The flooring installation was done by Northwest Floor Covering (Ron Willhoite) and was done with utmost professionalism and attention to detail. The entire project took 2 weeks from demolition to trim installation.
Description of Work: Work involved removing a 6' partition separating the living room/dining room from the kitchen. This partition had a peninsula attached to it and a pantry recessed into it. The partition was removed and the pantry moved into an adjacent closet. This project involved partition removal, ceiling and floor repair, texturing the ceiling, removing some popcorn ceiling, island/peninsula removal/install/modification, pantry relocation into an existing closet, and linoleum flooring installation in the kitchen and bathroom. Another small task was redoing a small section of popcorn ceiling in the rec room.

It was a real pleasure to work on this project. The owners were well informed and knew just what they wanted. This was a case where the budget was important and I feel we were able to meet it. We take a great deal of pride in our work as well as our relationship with customers as our ultimate goal is to leave them happy with the project. Paul Haugen

Overall we were pleased with their work and their professionalism. It did take a day longer than originally estimated, but we'd rather have a quality finished product than a rushed job. They arrived on a Monday holiday, worked all day, returned Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, working diligently each day to complete the job. By Friday we were showering again.
Description of Work: We needed an all-in-one fiberglass shower unit and tub ripped out and replaced with a new tub and tile surround. Paul was able to meet with us within a day of my phone call and had an estimate to me by that afternoon. A week later we were picking out tile and a week after that he and his crew were at our house to begin work. His employees were professional and courteous and their work great. We are very pleased with the finished product, which included a new, deep, soaking tub, tile surround with decorative tile, the installation of new shower valve, the installation of a light in the shower, replacement of our fan that didn't work and new flooring.

The member was absolutely wonderful to work with. The home has only one bathroom and it was imperative that it get remodeled as quickly as possible without sacrificing quality. They really pitched in by selecting the necessary materials in a rather quick fashion. It was a real pleasure helping them out on this project.
