We hired Barron Heating because years ago they were a good company and did good work for us. This time however, I have to say they are the worst contractor we have hired in 45 years of home ownership. The salesman told us they could fit an upgraded furnace in our existing space. They were not able to fit it where they said they could, and it obstructed the laundry room doorway so badly that the washer and dryer would not fit through the doorway without removing the furnace again. For the next six months, they stalled, made excuses, and lied (in writing) about coming back to do the job properly. At that point, we hired a lawyer and notified them of our intent to sue for breach of contract, including failure to have the required state inspection performed. Only after being faced with the choice of going to court or fulfilling their contract did they take any tangible action to properly reinstall the furnace. Unless you don’t mind the possibility of 17 months plus the additional cost of a lawyer and process server to get a simple furnace installed and legally inspected, learn from our mistake - hire a different contractor.

We were very pleased with Ricky and David, who were the two from Barron who did most of the work. The work was very well done, in a timely manner. We highly recommend them for your heating or air conditioning needs. Photo shows the heat pump outside and one of the three units installed in three different rooms.

3 days later was earliest we could get. But tank needed replacing... that's not all we "we had to get tankless because it would be impossible to fit a tank back in there..." so how could they take out the tank if one couldn't be put back in... they waved the charge for lighting pilot light... why would we pay for them lighting it if they didn't light it? Man, I went to look in the mirror to see if stupid was written it. We went to another company.

Very bad. Propane lines they installed under the house leaked and had to be redone by someone else. The stove they installed was defective and they refused to repair or replace it. The water heater they installed (and charged me $900.00 for!) was a piece of junk that leaked before it was a year old. They would not replace it either! With all of the propane leakage and faulty stove, the propane bill for that 5 months was $6000.00!!!

Absolute junk! water heater leaked in less than a year. They did NOT stand behind the warranty. The propane pipes they installed under the house leaked and had to be redone by someone else. The Stove they installed was faulty, and was too dangerous to use. Again, they refused to stand behind the warranty, telling me to take it to the south end of Seattle personally to be repaired if I wanted it fixed. BTW, it cost me $6000.00 for propane that winter. After yanking out that piece of trash stove and replacing it with a soapstone woodstove, my heating cost went down to under $600.00 for the winter. Yes, you read that right, a 90% difference in cost! And this one won't blow up my house!!!

It didn't. They never even responded.
Description of Work: My heater went out and Barron Heating was contacted through their web site. I told them it was 53 degrees inside my house. They never responded. I also contacted Andgar in Ferndale, WA and they contacted me the very next day and showed up bright and early a day later and fixed my problem at a reasonable price. I'll never contact Barron again for anything.

Things went fine with the actual A/C. The real problems came with the management. The business office couldn't figure out how much to charge me. I paid them at the time of service and they must have incorrectly entered the amount. I got a late notice from them weeks later. I contacted them to pay them again. Were they at all apologetic? No. Did they show the appropriate embarrassment? Not at all. The people on the phone were somewhat accusatory that I had shorted them. They entered the amount, which I obviously had no control over. Once the summer was over and I turned on my heat for the first time there was water everywhere in my garage coming from the furnace. Keep in mind this didn't happen at all last year. I contacted them again since I assumed they would stand by their work and parts were under warranty. The contact person was devoid of the ability to be on the phone. I told them the issue and she asked if I wanted an ER tech sent. I said if it was an emergency than yes, I know next to nothing about HVAC, she only asked again if I wanted the on call tech. The tech who arrived took a look and said he'd need needed parts but said they could have done it when they added the A/C. The system was safe to use in the meantime. Today the parts are in and a different tech comes to fix the furnace. To my surprise it's over $300.00 to get the furnace to not leak water. The tech tells me it wouldn't have been anything they would have touched when they installed the A/C. Except for the fact that they were supposed to address it at the time of the A/C install. He then went on to talk badly about his coworkers, obviously not caring about my complaints. During the conversation he also asks along the lines of how many years the A/C has been in. His company put it in in May. He didn't even know the basic info on the job site. This company was a good reliable local business but that is no more. This will be my last use of Baron Heating and I encourage all to look somewhere else if you'd like honest people.
Description of Work: I initially had A/C added to my house in May 2016. The sales guy promised they'd also fix a water issue in the heating system. The price was a little high but I wanted to go with a local company that has been around for years.

Grade "F" Bought a Daikin ductless system. it's been a problem since day 1. I Do NOT Recommend. Initial install went ok. Then I looked at the cooling vanes in the head. they were bent all over the place. tech says, "that's normal. won't effect operation." True or not, I did not pay 12 grand for a product that came from the dent and scratch sale bin. A month later, I got them to bring a new replacement. It was almost as bad as the first one. They didn't even bother opening the box at the shop to see if it was damages as well. The 2nd tech told me I had unrealistic expectations. They all came from the factory like that. If so, I'd be looking for a new provider. Third trip out, got a new head that had on very minor crop of bent fins...but certainly not pristine. Month later, system won't work more than 5 min. Have had 1 service call. Tech "reset the system". Needed it 2 weeks later and got the same. Had to wait over a week to get a 2nd service call. That's come later this week. Oh by the way. There was supposed to be a PSE rebate applied. When I got the bill, that was not accounted for. I call and the person said she would send me a new & revised bill. 30 days later I get a past due notice and the rebate was still not applied. That took another call and wait period.

The pre-business was very good. They got back to me on time. They were prompt coming here but it took the one guy who was sent here forever for him to finish the work. They told me it would take 4 to 5 hours here, but it it took him about 10 hours. I was not happy with that. I can't blame him but he probably should have had some help. The price was a little bit more than I expected. The quality of the work was good.

We recently tore out our old brick fireplace with the intention of replacing it with a wood stove in a different location. After getting multiple quotes, we decided to go with Barron Heating, as their salesman was friendlier and seemed more honest, and the price was competitive. We were impressed with the sales and installation process. The installer worked quickly and efficiently and was very friendly. He clearly knew what he was doing. He successfully worked around issues that came up due to the placement of the trusses in our roof, and the end product was exactly as we wanted. He gave us a quick demo of the wood stove and left our living room clean and, now, with a wonderful wood stove sitting in the corner. I will definitely be calling on Barron Heating for additional services in the future.

Since we were replacing inefficient cadet wall heaters with an efficient heat pump, this service qualified for a PUD rebate. It was initially unclear to me how the PUD portion of the payment would be handed, whether it would go directly to Barrons or to me. The PUD was clear in telling me that they would only pay the contractor directly. It was unclear to me if the Barron's bid total included this or not I had to ask my sales person 3 times before I got a clear answer. I submitted all the paperwork and got approval from the PUD. Then it turned out that several options, including the mechanical permit, had not been included in the application to the PUD, so Barrons had to put this in a change order. The installers arrived and knew nothing about the change order, and their plan did not include several vents I was expecting. I checked with the county and found no mechanical permit had been filed, so I had to do this myself. The other change order options were not done either. The original contract specified a 50% down payment and a final payment of the balance due when installation was complete. In this case the installation was to happen in two phases since we were having an addition put on to our house at the same time. The unit was to be installed but not turned on until the construction was completed. I was given a down payment amount, which I paid. Well before the addition construction was finished and the unit turned on I received an invoice without explanation. I told Barron I would not pay more until the job was completed and was told I could ignore the invoice. A month later I received another invoice with finance charges, which I was also told I could ignore. Next I received yet another invoice with more finance charges AND a threat to send the bill to collections. I called again and was told that Barron's system automatically generated these invoices and that there was nothing they could do to stop them. The day come to turn the unit on and it malfunctioned. They had to call in a service tech. Several days latter a tech came and worked on the unit. They suspected the coolant had been contaminated and so pumped it out, which took a while. The tech realized that if he didn't get the unit working that day it would be several days before he could come back so he worked until 10:30 that night to get the unit working. It's worked well ever since. Please understand that I'm focusing on what didn't go well in this transaction. There was much that went right. The installers and service people were first-rate. Everyone I spoke with on the phone and came to the house were worthy of an "A" rating. With the mixup over the change order and the threatening invoices I just can't give Barron an "A" overall.

Asked for estimate for furnace, ac and hot water heater. Guy came out and said he would run a test on the house to check for leaks. Told me most companies charge for it but Barron was free. Afterwards he worked up an estimate for the water heater and for the hvac. I told him the hvac was dependent on bids I was getting for a remodel. I told him to go ahead and do the water heater right away. He had me go on line and I payed the full amount, 1038.00 I asked him for a receipt and he said Barron would send me one. A week later it was installed, I asked the installer for a receipt, warranty and owners manual and he said barron would send me one. A month later I called barron asking for my receipt, the woman in billing stated it takes up to 2 months to generate! really! Two months later I called again and got a run around and that someone would call me. A couple of days later an guy called me and asked about the hvac install. I told him I was still in the middle of bids and not sure if I was ready to do it this now, to which I got a short response to call when I was ready. Still not receipt. On 8/7/14 I got a call AGAIN about the hvac install. I told him the remodel had fallen through for this year, I still wanted to do it but not now, I asked about my receipt and got a short "I'll look into it " response. Today I received a bill for 600.00 dollars for a change order, charging me for "removal of parts, labor and materials"What parts, labor and materials, IT WAS AN ESTIMATE! Please be aware, this is a hard sell company once you get a bid. 1700.00 for a home hot water heater is outrageous AND NOT WHAT I WAS QUOTED. Every step of the way I made sure they understood this was an estimate and what my constraints were and I received double talk, no receipt, and harassing phone calls wanting to know when I was going to install the hvac I had the estimate done on.

Seth Bowman managed the job, Had onsite visit prior to authorizing the work and numerous email exchanges. He is very knowledgeable. Installation work went as planned. People doing installation and replacements was courteous and cleaned up thoroughly. Only problem was a tiny leak in a piece of pipe coupling that was part of the original installation 10 years ago. They came back out and replaced the coupling.

On 1/31/2013 I went to their Mount Vernon store to buy a replacement for my 24 year old wood stove. After looking at different models in their well laid out showroom, I saw a pellet stove operating and was impressed. After talking with the salesman I decided to buy a more modern pellet stove, an Avalon AGP. I chos Avalon or Lopi because the make good quality stoves. I chose Barron because I wanted good quality service, which Angie's List and previous experience with Barron told me I would get. I didn't haggle much because the price seemed OK. After discussing all this with my spouse, we returned to Barron on 1/2/2014 to look over the stove. She wasn't crazy about the looks of it, but we both liked its functionality. So we bought it. Barron installed the stove and removed our old wood stove on 1/13/2014. The two installers cleaned up well afterwards. We used the stove for a week, then I did the weekly cleaning on 1/20/2014. I couldn't get one of the pieces back in, so I returned to Barron to find out what was wrong. They sent the installer back the next morning and after he fiddled with it for awhile he showed me how to put the panel back in. After he left, the stove would not start. An error light was blinking. I called him and he returned in about an hour. After much testing and conferring with someone, he discovered a bad part. He went away to get a new part, installed it and the stove worked again. He explained the problem very well and showed me why the part was bad. The stove worked well until 2/8/2014 when the fire went out. A technician came 2/11/2014, spent a lot of time trying to determine the cause of the problem, and finally discover it was a loose coupler set screw. He tightened it and the stove has worked well since. The point of all this is that I didn't expect to have problems with a good quality stove, but Barron was quick to make it right under warranty.
