Mik arrived a bit early and got to work right away removing the limb. He pointed out several other dead branches that were caught in the canopy and some that had not yet fallen but were ready to go, and he removed them. He chipped the debris and cleaned up all traces of work. The tree looks fantastic, completely natural but now prepared to ride out future storms.
Description of Work: During the recent windstorm, a very large limb of our bigleaf maple broke and fell but was caught in a fork of the tree several yards up. I contacted Tree Resource, who has done work for us before, to come out and safely remove the limb before it fell on the fence and the neighbor's yard.

I was extremely pleased with the result. The arborist, I believe his name was Nic examined the old apple tree in our backyard in Fife and very carefully selected limbs that should be removed. I particularly appreciated the way he stopped to examine the tree as he removed branches. The tree was very overgrown and we had recently bought the property. This took place in March 2016, and the tree has really looked beautiful all year. The arborist recommended that we give the tree time to recoup from the pruning and not have work done on until winter of 2017. I will certainly call Tree Resource again. Very professional work.

We had a 50-60 foot fir tree tip in the windstorm this week. It fell onto another fir tree located nearby and ended up at a 45-degree angle with the top of the fallen tree leaning into the top of the other. The tree that it fell on was visibly bent due to the weight of the other tree. I called a tree removal service that has great reviews here and they came out, evaluated and decided they'd need a crane to remove it. They didn't feel that they could safely take it down otherwise. The crane company said it would take one of their largest cranes, at an estimate of $5000-6000, since it would have to reach 110 feet from my culdesac over my house to the backyard, and not tip over with the weight of the tree. There would be another $2500+ on top of that for the tree service's fees. In a bit of a panic, I called Zeb at Tree Resource for a second opinion. He and his crew had done work for me previously on a couple occasions for pruning, shaping and removing limbs. Zeb came right over, evaluated the situation and said he felt that he and his crew could do the removal using extensive rigging anchored to other trees in my yard. This would hopefully stabilize the fallen tree enough to facilitate the whole removal and prevent the trunk from falling free once separated from the other tree. Zeb and Nick came out the next morning and started work. It took two days to safely bring the whole tree down, since they had to work very slowly to avoid excessive movement of the fallen tree or the one it was leaning on, and it was quite an impressive performance to watch. Zeb was very aware of safety concerns at all times while directing work from the ground and handling the anchor ropes and block and tackle system. His employee, Nick, did a great job up in the tree, managing multiple ropes and saws with finesse. Outstanding work in a dangerous situation! I can't thank them enough for their responsiveness and professionalism.

Everything went well, the arborists did a great job of verifying with me exactly what trimming I desired whenever there was a question, and they helped me understand the best ways to accomplish what I wanted with the trees health in mind. they did an excellent job of ensuring that the felled tree didn't damage the existing landscaping (or the house, it was only about 5 feet from the kitchen window), and cleaned up after the job was all done to my satisfaction. Would gladly have them back out next time I have tree work to be done.
Description of Work: Removed a dying white pine along with minor pruning and shaping of 20 year old japanese maple in the front yard, as well as pruning and removal of a very unsafe (and large!) hanging branch that was hung up on another branch ~50ft in a large Douglas Fir.

These people really know what they are doing as far as keeping your trees healthy and well maintained! Zeb's crew was at our home most of the day, and expertly thinned both of our beautiful maple trees. They have great respect for trees in general, and though we have had a different aborist come out and perform a similar service several years ago, it is very apparent that Tree Resource is at the top of our list when we need more tree work completed. Thanks for your professional and expert work!

It went really well. Initially, it didn't go well because I emailed him and I never heard back and then apparently they were having some email problems. It just took a long time. But once we connected and he made an appointment and he showed up on time and gave me so much advice and was really helpful. He spent a lot of time answering my questions, showing me pictures. He would take a picture of one of my trees and showed me how to trim it by using his iPad. He was helpful and professional. He certainly seem to know what he was talking about. I have no hesitations with working with him again if I needed to.

Response from Tree Resource
I'll take responsibility for this one. We evaluated trees in the member's yard - a very nice healthy urban garden by the way. The main concern the member had was for a poplar tree growing very close to the back corner of a detached garage. Because the site made it very difficult to get to the tree from the yard, we finished our review of the garden and left, promising to look at the tree on our way out. We had to park about a quarter mile away and walk down the alley to get to the tree. I and my companion arborist checked it out discussed a logistical arrangement for it's removal and left for the next appointment of our day. Apparently we dropped the ball from that point on. I've just sent a proposal over to the member and hopefully we can take care of this from here on out. Our apologies.

Initially, I wanted my cherry laurel pruned, but when Zeb came out for the consultation, he said that since the cherry laurel is an invasive species in the PNW, he would not prune it, only take it out. It didn't take long for Zeb to convince me - he is extremely knowledgeable and consultative, offering multiple solution options for my budget and objectives. And I appreciate that he is taking a stand on invasive species. After the consultation, he sent me a list of recommended trees that I could plant to replace the laurel. On the day of service, Zeb and one of his associate arborists, Kyle, performed the work. Kyle got the majority of existing grape vine out of my Douglas fir in addition to removing the lower branches - not an easy task, as the vines were pretty entrenched! And now that ugly tree looks pretty great! Zeb tackled the laurel, methodically removing one branch at a time, and cutting the stump as low to the ground as he could (couple of inches). I had a few hostas and other plants under the canopy and he was careful to not harm them, which I really appreciated. They had to drag all the waste down my steep driveway to the chipper, and did so quickly and efficiently, and then backed the truck up my driveway to leave me with the wood mulch that I can use anywhere in the garden! And to top everything off, Zeb brought me a start/seedling of a harlequin glory bower from his own tree and property, and planted it to replace the laurel! After they were finished, Zeb took me across the street to a park to show me some trees that I could think about planting in my yard to help shade my roof, and then pointed out exactly in my yard, the best places to plant. He gave me a lot to think about and I have no doubt that when I am ready to plant, I'll call Tree Resource to come help! I couldn't be more happy with the whole process of working with Zeb - great guy and a true pro!
Description of Work: * Crown raising of a Douglas fir - removed the lowest branches to prevent neighbor's grape vine from attaching itself to the canopy of the fir. * Removal of an English (cherry) laurel - cut to low stump (within a couple inches of grade) * Provided a small tree and planted it in the area where the laurel was removed

The President, Zeb Haney, emailed me later today and wrote that they offered two assessment levels: "We have two basic consultation services for residential clients. Both follow guidelines set out by ASCA (American Society of Consulting Arborists) and ANSI (American National Standards Institute) for evaluating trees for health and risk. In both cases we will evaluate your trees for condition (health) and structure (risk). You will have an idea of why your trees are growing the way they are, what to expect from the future and how best to maintain them at their highest and best use. - Level 1 Tree Inspection: $200 "We will spend up to an hour on site answering your tree questions. This is best if you have multiple trees to look at and/or lots of questions but have no need of a formal written report." - Level 2 Tree Inspection: $425 "We will examine up to three trees at a more in depth level. Measurements for height, girth, crown size and shape, foliar and rooting conditions, as well as surrounding environmental issues will be taken during a 360 degree visual evaluation of the tree. This will be reported back to you with recommendations for future care in written format. The Level 2 Assessment is best if you require documentation for property line trees, damaged trees, or just for your future reference. " Based upon this, he said I probably need Level One for $200. I was confused by his reply since I specifically said in my contact email that I wanted work done, and not a report, and I told Zeb this in my email reply. I also pointed out to him that the Level One "assessment" was currently being offered for $149 on Angie's list (a $165 value) and that it sounded like the $200 Level One visit was nothing more than him charging me to come to my home to give me an estimate. Zeb emailed me back and wrote: "The Angie?s List deal is only available to members that live in South King County and Pierce County. And as clarification, the Level 1 assessment is in no way intended to be a sales call for the purpose of providing a quote; it is a professional evaluation of your trees. If you are looking for a free estimate, we might not be the right fit for you. Apologies if there was a misunderstanding." To make a long story short, as of today (5/4/15 at 6:15 pm) there are no geographic restrictions on the Level One assessment and his reply sums it up, they don't do free estimates, if you want an estimate, they charge $200 and call it an assessment. If his company can get away with charging $200 (or $149 or whatever he chooses to charge) for an estimate while competitors with similar degrees/educations/reputations do them for free, good for Tree Resource, but call it what it is, don't hide behind this verbal assessment stuff. You only get one chance to make a good first impression and - Zeb is correct - based upon this exchange, Tree Resource isn't the right fit for me; I want to hire someone that I can trust is shooting straight with me and I will take my business elsewhere.
Description of Work: I need tree work done at my house and based upon reviews and their website, I decided to contact Tree Resource today (5/4/15). According to their website, they do work in the Ballard/Greenwood area where my house is located, so I sent them an email directly from their website explaining that I am an Angie's List member and have trees that need worked on and asked someone to contact me.

Response from Tree Resource
I only wish to answer the allegation that our evaluation is comparable to a free estimate that is given by most of the tree services. Our service always, always begins with a true evaluation. This is often the only service we provide, since most of the trees we see do not need much care. Or at least, they need much less cutting then our clients have originally imagined is needed to have healthy trees that meet their expectations. The problem with free estimates is that eventually someone must pay for all of that “free” time. In this highly competitive business, we distinguish ourselves by not joining in this race to be the cheapest provider of tree cutting. In the end, by charging a fee that reasonably compensates us for providing the very best customized advice for your trees, you can be assured that we are not recommending work needlessly. I would like to summarize the danger of confusing professional consulting with free estimates by the following haiku: The tree grows slowly. Cutters work efficiently And a stump remains.

2 young and very courteous employees of Zeb arrived as scheduled and worked hard all day to complete the job. They were careful and very expert at trimming and pruning trees and did not rush. Though the estimated time to complete this job was 3.5 hours for the two of them for a total of 7 hours, they stayed and worked the extra time necessary to complete the job. Though they admitted they were not as fast as the owner, we felt that their work was conscientious and competent and we love how our trees look! They cleaned up all of the trimmed branches from the yard and deck and left everything very tidy. It is obvious they are experts and that they take pride in their work and we would recommend them to others.

He came out and walked our yard with me inspecting our trees and made recommendations as to what they needed. He showed me how to do proper cuts when pruning. He took a sample of an infestation we had in a pine tree and said he would let me know what it was later, but never did hear back. we had tree removed so wasn't necessary, but i was curious. I was left with a feeling afterwards as to would they offer any follow up, but nothing came. I am glad I had him come for the price it was good to get the pruning tips and a few recommendations as to some things needed on a couple trees.

I bought a fixer upper a few years ago and decided this would be the year for landscaping. I knew I wanted an arborist over your average landscaper/tree trimmer/general contractor and I knew I would be paying for their expertise. I left Zeb a voicemail and followed up with an email. Email was the easiest way to communicate. I had 4 trees I wanted Zeb to look at, but we decided to focus on my 2 problem trees for budget purposes, a large Cypress and an unruly Cherry. I sent Zeb a couple of photos of my trees. He gave me an estimate of 3 hours and we scheduled the appointment. To be honest, I was a little nervous because I wasn't sure what to expect. Zeb sent Mik out to perform the service and instantly I felt relieved that I hired the right company. Mik was personable and was willing to share some of his knowledge with me, which is exactly what I was looking for. He got started right away and had my Cherry thinned out within a short amount of time. He took a quick look at tree #3 (a plum tree), which I was thinking of replacing. Mik had a plan and within a couple of cuts, I felt confident he could save my tree. He moved on to my large Cypress, which needed more work than I had anticipated. He did a fantastic job in the amount of time that was allotted. I appreciate that Mik always kept me posted on the time as well as the time he needed for clean up. He went above and beyond my expectations. I am the type who is hesitant about hiring contractors and would prefer to do the work myself. I am extremely happy that I spent the money and hired these guys. I feel I got my money's worth and appreciate the education I got with it. I would not hesitate to recommend these guys to my friends (& have already done so). I'm looking forward to putting down the trimmers and having these guys out next year. Great job guys, thank you!!!

Outstanding. This is the second time I have used Tree Resource and their work is really spectacular. They are incredibly knowledgeable about different types of trees and their needs and really focus on what is best for the tree's health. Most of the work is done by a single arborist who climbs to a surprising height in the tree and trims, shapes, and removes dead wood branch by branch (and twig by twig in my case). My corkscrew willow is very old and massive, with a tendency to have fragile limbs. After two sessions over a three year period working on this tree it is already noticeably more healthy and has a much more attractive sail with no remaining branches that appear to be at risk for breakage in our windstorms. I also have a very old and large Japanese maple that they carefully did sculptural pruning to expose the trunk...looked awesome after they were finished. I would not use these guys just to remove dead trees...reserve them for trees that you really care about and want to keep at peak health and beauty!
