This is our second time using JHB (see my previous review) and we are still as happy with them as ever and plan to use them for another bath remodel in 2019 or 2020 (when we have money again!). We remodeled our basement into a guest quarters and did most of that work ourselves but we needed JHB to rebuild and re-orient the basement staircase (a major job, as electrical and plumbing had to be moved and the stairs needed to be widened), re-configure the upstairs area, and totally overhaul an upstairs bathroom. They also installed and finished all the drywall in the 500 square feet that we remodeled ourselves. It ended up being a long project-- at least 2 guys were here every weekday from around 8:30 to 6:00 for almost 2 months. I can't say enough about how professional and caring the guys were about doing a great job for us. I got to know them pretty well as I am home a lot and they are all excellent at what they do and they work *very* hard. The two who were primarily heading up the project, Gil and Jose, were great at communicating about the project with us. It is all finished now and we could not be happier with the result-- it is GORGEOUS. The staircase framing, carpentry, tile work, and drywall in particular are extremely well done. We just love the new space and have gotten so many compliments on it. It's been a month since it was completed and I kinda almost miss those guys . . . time to plan the next project!

We hired Darryl to build a fence, along with our next-door neighbor. I honestly wish we'd just built it ourselves. We went through countless email exchanges trying to clarify things with them and constantly got one and two-word responses to only part of the email. We even diagramed what we wanted to be built to clarify what we were looking for. I'm embarrassed that we actually moved forward with them. Pricing changed several times as he wrote several revised estimates (none of which were correct). The length of the fence was initially only walked off (even though he was offered a tape measure). We pushed to get a corrected estimate several times and never could. In the end, we measured the finished fence and pushed for a change to the final invoice which we finally got. We'd specifically asked for the fence built along a wall to not be sloped, but they sloped it anyway. Repeated exchanges went unanswered as to why they didn't follow our instructions. We're now on the hook to correct their error ourselves. Honestly, even if you're paying a bit more, I'd look elsewhere. JHB simply isn't worth the hassle. I might feel differently if they'd attempted to fix the errors or apologized for the unprofessional communication, but, such is dealing with contractors sometimes. Go elsewhere.

JHB has done many projects for me on 2 houses over about the last 8 years. They have been good to work with, reasonably priced, and have done great work with 1 exception. The shower they installed on the lower floor of our split level home has leaked into the wall from the beginning. Unfortunately, my renter never told me about it, so 5 years later when I had JHB out for an estimate on repairing a huge deck, Garrett told me they would be happy to give me an estimate on fixing the shower., but it was too late for any guarantee. I had filled in the big gap between the wall and floor of the plastic shower unit with aerosol foam, stopping the leak, (I think) but still battle black mold over the seam. I haven't followed up with the shower and had another contractor (Crist Landscape) rebuild the deck. I'm sure if I had been on top of the shower situation at the time, they would have made it right.
Description of Work: house 1: replaced siding one side, several windows (with new interior wood wrapping), poured concrete patio, built new porch with removable railing, replaced roof, installed continuous aluminum gutters house 2: busted concrete slab to install downstairs shower, cut down a too-big vanity I bought on Craigslist and installed it, replaced 2 toilets, installed 2 bathroom fans, installed stair handrails, extended back porch and installed handrail, replaced drywall and included ceiling sound insulation in downstairs bedroom. I'm relying on memory, so the approximate cost is a wild estimate, but it was very reasonable.

We can't say enough good things about JHB. Chuck, the workman who singlehandedly did the closet project, was highly skilled, professional, very courteous, responsive, and extremely easy to work with. He did an amazing job all the way down to the smallest details, and I was shocked at how well he controlled mess and dust so it didn't permeate through our small house. He was very communicative about when he would be here and for how long, and, most importantly, he did superior quality work that we are thrilled with. Chuck also did all of the drywall work in our living room, which was a very large and dusty task, and did an excellent job there as well. Then a crew of painters came and painted the living/dining area, and they did a good job too. The job is all done now, and there were no additional "surprise" charges added to our estimates. We have other projects on our list, and we will definitely use JHB again. In particular we will ask for Chuck as we were 100% happy with everything he did for us. I think it is rare to find a trustworthy contractor who does a great job, is reasonably priced, and doesn't hassle with extra charges or scheduling delays. We feel lucky to have found JHB.
Description of Work: Two projects: They created a new closet in the master bedroom by carving out space from an adjacent bedroom (which also required moving a lot of electrical, installing new lights and switches, and relocating a door) and they also finished up a remodeling/repair project we had started ourselves by repairing drywall, installing trim and painting our large living/dining area. The cost was about $5500 for the closet (including tax) and $2225 for the living room. It is worth noting that the new closet doors we chose were solid wood ($$$) and so the cost of the project would have been less if we had chosen cheaper ones.

They even came out on the 4th of July to take care of my project knowing that timing was very important to me. I would definitely use them again for future projects. I will be replacing my roof and painting my home this spring and I plan to hire them.

Gareth was very professional and worked with us to identify all materials and work required. Emailed estimate was received about a week after walk through. Revision to estimate took another week. Some materials required another 4 week lead time. Due to just learning we are being relocated, we had to cancel the order.
Description of Work: Provided estimate for kitchen remodel, including granite counters, new island, removal/demolition of existing pantry wall and tiling floor and backsplash.

I have used them quite a bit and they are always very helpful. They do a good job for the services I need at a fair price. If there is ever a misunderstanding or if work needs to be re-done they will come out and fix it to my satisfaction. I can always get an appointment with them right away.
Description of Work: We use them for repairs around our house.

After getting 3 different estimates for a small kitchen and bathroom remodel - plus purchase/installation of a hot water tank, and more... I chose JHB Construction. All work was excellently performed. Day-by-day communication was efficient and timely. No extra costs were ever incurred. Prices were reasonable. JOB was bottom line -- VERY WELL DONE! Everything was left really clean! The owners of JHB were extremely personable.
Description of Work: Small kitchen remodel including: install a new hot water tankless propane, seal around old hot water system, remove old stove, build new shelve, seal holes and install chopping board for additional counter space. Remove old cabinet and blend ceiling and tile counter top to match. Small bathroom remodel including: rebuild closet/shelves behind tub/shower, fix loose shower head, remove old fan and install new one. (JHB ended up saving this fan cost by repairing the old fan at a minimal price, plus install trim.

LOUSY! They were supposed to scrape out the old tape and re-do all of the seams. This is the most important part of re-doing a metal roof. I even was supplying the tape! I arrived at home to find their crew packing up saying they were all done. I still had all of the untouched rolls of tape. Since english was not spoken here I had to call the main office and tell them I wanted this done. They sent out this old guy who said he was the father of the owner who got up on my roof and said it did not need it. My roof continued to leak and it was now leaking worse than it had before! I had them come again and again only to have it get worse each time! I was even supplying the roof patch at $50.00 a gallon! Then on one of the times they sent someone out I noticed one individual as the one who did some work for me previously. This was a bad sign because this person's work had to be re-done by someone else. The porch this person built for me looked like it was straight out of a Dick Tracy cartoon. One corner was so high and the others so low it looked like animation. When I called him and told him how bad it was he said the porch wasn't crooked, my house was! My neighbor brought over a level and the bubble was all the way to one side! He then put a tennis ball on the porch and it rolled really fast to the other side. This company should be noted for poor work quality and horrible follow through. I later had Coast Roofing out of Graham re-do my roof and they did a BEAUTIFUL job.
Description of Work: The services that were agreed upon was to strip out and re-tape all of the seams and patch a metal roof on a single wide mobile home. This was also including a roof coating to make the roof color even.
