He checked everything in every room and also addressed any concerns or questions my husband had for him.
Description of Work: We had a thorough check of all of our home and garage electical work as our home is now 20 years old and has never been inpected overall. We found this service to be efficient, knowledgeable, repsonsive and friendly. We now have peace of mind knowing that we have no electrical problems. That was well worth the price and very much appreciated!!

I had a big project that I had casually bid out several times over the past couple of years. B/c of the cost I had put it off but due to a recent refinance, I took out some extra money to have the electrical updated. I live in a 1930s Ballard cape cod home. Most of the electrical was knob and tube with some updating in the kitchen and basement. The 125 Amp fuse box was located in the bathroom in the basement so that needed to be brought up to code so they moved it into the kitchen and upgraded it to 200 Amps. They also moved the meter and the sketchy 1930s wiring to the front of the house. They were here 2 weeks. Anywhere from 2-4 guys here were at the time. All the guys were professional and courteous. The team leader, (I think his name was Ryan?) was great. They did a solid job, made minimal damage to the walls which I hugely appreciate and looked after my dogs. However there were a couple things that made it a not-perfect experience: I believe the electrical outlets are lower quality. plugs don't fit into them very well, they don't quite sit flush to the wall. The patching work was ok. I asked the owner how his patch guy was b/c I was concerned that the patching wouldn't match my plaster walls. The areas that were patched are ultra smooth compared to the slight texture of the plaster, there were some pitting marks too that probably should have been filled before painting. A switch plate had a knife cut on it and was still used, after the job was complete, one outlet was left with bare wires (not live) - which would have been ok but it took 3 or 4 emails plus a couple of phone calls until I got a response to fix and then they fixed right away. Patrick had always been quick to respond until then. All in all the job went well and I have recommended them to a friend to use. I think the price was fair and less than my expectations compared to previous "casual" bids. There was a lot of work completed. I would use them again for sure.
Description of Work: Completely rewired 1930s home, removed knob and tube wiring, moved fuse box from bathroom downstairs to upstairs in kitchen, upgraded it to 200 amp box, moved meter to front of home, remove old 1930s sketchy service on outside of home.

Work was of sufficient quailty. Timeliness wasn't so great. But my HUGE complaint is the $850+ cost of digging about 50 feet of ditch, most of which was only a foot deep. $65 an hour for unskilled labor that was largely sitting in the car talking on his cell phone. Absolute waste of time and my money. I had a track hoe dig the hard parts, so that wasn't included in the bill. I shudder to think how much the job would have cost if I'd let these guys do all of the digging. It would have been thousands more.
Description of Work: Contracted to have main panel replaced with one that has more slots and a generator bypass; to run a 100 amp 220 circuit to my shop; to run dedicated 20 amp 110 circuits to front and back of house.

It was very easy to make an appointment for a few days after the initial purchase of the deal. Two, very polite representatives, showed up at the agreed time, and installed the device in just a few minutes. The installation was very clean and carefuly performed. They explained to me how it works, and then left me with the box where the device came, which is great for future reference. We had many wind storms after the device was installed, and no issues whatsoever. Same thing this fall/winter, many storms and no issues (so far). I check the device often, to ensure that it's still actively protecting our home. Definitely one of the best, yet simplest things we've done to this house since we bought it.
Description of Work: I got the whole house surge protection deal from Angie's because every year we have terrible wind storms in the winter, which cause really bad voltage fluctuations and spikes, and complete power failures. We had a refrigerator die on us, then a dryer, and finally we had to get our heat pump fixed because of these issues (thankfuly it had only reset itself as a protection). That's when I decided that we needed to do something as soon as possible. It was actually the heat pump technician that suggested the surge protection for the whole house. Looking back, a year later, we have had no problems whatsoever since we installed this protection.

The work was done very well. It was easy to set up an appointment. The people we talked with over the telephone were courteous and pleasant. The service man was prompt on the day of our appointment. He came in and inspected the power box. Ours is in a downstairs family room, and is surrounded by drywall, so he advised us that in order to install the surge protector, he would have to install it outside the the box itself. This meant that a hole had to be cut just at the bottom of the circuit breaker box, just large enough to insert the protector into the wall and hook it up to the power. I know most people probably have their breaker boxes in the garage or in an unfinished basement, so it isn't a problem. Just be aware that if your situation is like ours, a hole must be cut into the drywall. The installer was very clear in explaining the work he had to do, and made sure we understood what was going to happen. We agreed to continue with the job, and we have a nice large picture hanging over it all now, so it doesn't show. We are quite satisfied with how it turned out.
Description of Work: Through the Angie's List Big Deal offers, we had them come and install a whole house surge protector on our circuit box.

Damin was prompt, professional and QUICK. My needed repairs were not too great, but as a result of a home inspection. (I am the seller). The inspection report was flawed and cited things that were NOT WRONG, and/or stated that some items were outside of code (also incorrect). Damin methodically addressed each and every item listed on the inspection report on his invoice, and did make the few corrections that were necessary. I was originally (on the phone) quoted from between $200-$300 and ended up at the high end. This was probably due to the time spent here as I am sure the repairs themself would have placed it somewhat lower. I am grateful for In-House quick response and the quality of their workmanship.
Description of Work: Some work in the main electrical panel. Reducing amount of exposed wires insulation sheathing, capping off adandon wire, marking a neutral wire as hot, covering an unused slot, checking to see that spaces were installed correctly. Verifying that outside light installation was according to code, correcting a reverse polarity situation discovered within an outlet.

I chose In-House Electric for the job, and I think they did a good job. The job was a big one (by my standards), and they were very professional and good at explaining each step as they went through the project. They were courteous, very prompt (early, in fact), professional and qualified. They insisted on getting their work inspected which I appreciated and worked non-stop until the job was done. I had them back to do a few other things along the way, and although there were some occasional hiccups (one scheduling conflict, an sick day taken, and one job had to have some follow-up work after a small oversight), one thing was very consistent throughout. Each time In-House Electric sent someone out, they were always qualified and helpful. I met about 5 or 6 different electricians, and they all seemed very professional and capable. If I could change one thing, it would be the price (but who wouldn't right?), but I think that's just the nature of electrical work. I was hoping for some better pricing as I had them come out for more and more work, but I never seemed to get a break on the pricing, and it seemed to work out to between $90 and $100/ hour for the work. I had to do pass on a couple items I wanted them to do because of the price, and I really think the price for one of the estimates was too high. Now, having said that, they never charged me extra for parts or supplies, as that was always included in their bid. So an accurate hourly rate is hard to compute. When the project was nearly finished, they sent out an electrician to do the trim out work, and he willingly made sure I was completely happy with everything. He even made two trips to make sure the trim baffling in the office matched the hallway lights. Overall, these guys were great, and I suspect they stand by their work. If I ever have any problems, I fully expect In-House Electric will help me resolve them, they seem like that type of company.
Description of Work: I had a variety of electrical projects in our basement remodel. I needed someone to remove the ceiling and re-route wires which were previously placed all over the drop ceiling of the basement and the various rooms. I also had some wiring on our sports court and some new wiring in a couple bedrooms. I was looking for someone I thought was qualified, and not necessarily the lowest bidder.

The electrician was fast, friendly, and professional. He installed the circuit and included an extra plug to make resetting the GFI easier. (The other 2 outlets were for the garage door openers and would have been inconvenient to reset). He got the permit, and scheduled an inspection for the next day (it passed). It wasn't cheap, but the 15% Angie's list coupon made it reasonable.First class all around.

Great, Thanks to Lucas's expert advice I was able to fix the problem myself and save a service call! WAY TO GO!
Description of Work: Called IN-HOUSE ELECTRICAL to schedule an Appt. Based on reviews here, lucas called me back within an hour, not bad for a sunday. I talked with him at length on the phone as I had already troubleshot the issue, and figured my diagnosis was correct. Well glad to say I was wrong, he told me some other things to check and I believe I found the problem and fixed it myself, saving the cost of a service call. If I ever do need an electrician to come to the house these guys will be the first ones I call. Thanks Lucas!

They performed excellent service. We had a septic tank pumped out and it was noted by the pumping company that the pump was not receiving current. In addition we noted that we had one circuit in the garage that was out (the same circuit). This was on the Saturday of a holiday weekend. We put in a request that day and got a call back within an hour or two on a holiday weekend. An appointment was made for the Tuesday after the holiday since this wasn't an emergency. The technician showed up early (and called to make sure that it was OK to show up early). Very polite and got right down to work. He diagnosed the problem within 20 minutes and showed us the fix as well as how to avoid the problem in the future. He did identify addition work that could be done on that circuit, but he was extremely low key about it and there were no high-pressure sales techniques or predictions of doom and gloom if we didn't sign up for some more expensive option. This was a pleasant surprise! The work was completed and fit within the budget of their call-out / troubleshooting fee. I was very happy with the service and would use them again.

We received a very quick response from Lucas and scheduled the work for the next day. Matt came out at the time we agreed on and did the work quickly and efficiently. He was professional and very competent. While I might have done this work myself, it was nice to have a professional come out and take care of the problem in much less time and knowing that it was done right. I would use this company again.
Description of Work: We called on 4/24 to get an estimate on replacing a switch controlling a timer for exhaust fans in a laundry room and an upstairs bathroom. The timer was extremely noisy and when the fan in the laundry room was turned on, the fan in the upstairs bathroom was also activated. We wanted to separate the two fans so they worked independently.

The approximate cost above includes tax and permit fee. They arrived on time and completed the work within one day. The trench had to stay open for several days waiting for the required inspection but then a workman arrived the following morning to fill in the trench. No problems and we are very satisfied with the result. The final cost was exactly what had been estimated.
Description of Work: Provided power to the attic, wired up an installed attic fan, and installed a light and quad plug in the attic. Also provided power to an outside shed and installed a light and two receptacles in shed. The shed work required digging a trench approximately 25' long.

They were here for eight days in total and I can't say enough good things about them. Patrick gave the initial quote and patiently answered all my questions. I had gotten five other quotes and In-House was the lowest, ranging by a couple hundred dollars to $2500. The two-man team that did the work was led by Matt Podoll - highly recommended. Very professional, skilled and friendly. And they were very considerate about noise when our baby was sleeping. Sometimes going with the lowest bid means less quality. Not so in this case. They consistently went above and beyond the call of duty, both in demeanor and quality of work. Sure there were 30 puck-sized holes in the wall afterward, but that's to be expected - from any company. I opted not to have them repair the drywall. They had quoted a very competitive price for drywall repair, but I found a great local guy (Dale Landis of DC Drywall - also highly recommended). However, I'm sure In-House would have done a great job too. Again, great experience with them. While it's a chaotic project, they did everything to minimize the inconvenience to us. If you have electrical work needing doing - call In House and ask for Matt. You won't be disappointed.
Description of Work: While our basement is finished and has up-to-code wiring, our main level was still wired with knob and tube in the attic. In-House replaced all the knob and tube wiring, bringing the house up-to-code. They also installed a bathroom exhaust fan, installed under-cabinet lighting, added some outlets, both outside and in, added lightswitches, installed hard-wired smoke detectors, and installed a new circuit and wire for our furnace.

InHouse electric is a stellar company. Patrick McCarthy came out, looked at our home and gave us a quote. After interviewing about 5 other companies, his was the clear winner. Not only was he punctual, professional and courteous but all the other companies were more expensive; ranging from several thousand dollars to double the price! Not only was InHouse the most competitive quote but Patrick made me feel at ease and listened to all my requests, concerns and even made me a 'wish list'. Since everything was able to be accommodated that was necessary and was within budget, I was able to do the extras like spot lights and upgrading the bathroom vent. It was spectacular. My husband and I also bought new lighting fixtures for our home and they replaced all of them. They did everything to minimize construction and cleaned up EVERY DAY after themselves! I had other companies that came out to quote tell me that they don't clean/patch any holes and some were twice as expensive! The audacity!! InHouse offers patching services at an additional cost. This was still more economical than going with some of the other companies I interviewed. The main 'patcher', Dave, is a phenomenal person to work with. He does his best to perfectly patch, clean up, and listen to your concerns/requests. He will do anything - and I mean anything - to make the customer happy. I had asked him to double check the insulation on a pipe coming into the house and it was in a rather dark crawl space. He put on his head lamp and said "No problem!" with a smile. Now that's what I call service. I was worried b/c I'd just had my home inspected for mold. Even though logically I knew that the expandable foam wouldn't allow water to get in, my fear got the best of me and I asked him to put insulation tape on it from the inside. Secretly, I know that he did this just to appease me but not ever did Dave make me feel like my request was superfluous or absurd. Instead, after he came out of the crawl space (I was waiting) he said "I used it all up by coiling it around the pipe's entrance" and handed back the empty tape. I was pleased as punch. It made me feel great and genuinely listened to by him. Additionally, I had a big hole in my mud room where the old meter box was formerly housed. The walls are made of old paneling and it would've been quite difficult to find a matching piece for patching purposes for something that is obviously out of date. So, Dave asked me if it was okay if he put a nice piece of wood there. I said it was fine. He went out and bought some pine to patch it and even stained the wood so that it would look nicer, be easier to clean and remain cleaner longer. He also mited it at 45 degrees so as to stave off and potential splinters as well as making it look nice on the corners! The same level of service and care was provided by Patrick and the rest of the crew. Patrick was so flexible with everything. When a hole had to be patched in my new James Hardie Plank siding, I was worried about water intrusion. It was the exterior complementary side of the meter box removed from the mud room's interior. They had ideas as to how to patch it but I wanted to do my due diligence on options available to me. They we patient and waited. After doing some research, I went to the local hardware store to buy a piece of wood and water barrier mesh that would cover the hole. They didn't have any on hand. However, what they did have on hand was some roof tar. Patrick suggested it because he saw how unhappy I was that what I had seemed insufficient. He then taped off the area with painters tape so that it would be nice and clean once the tacky tar was applied and once removed it would leave a perfect square. It exactly what my siding and psyche needed! After working with so-so companies and downright awful companies, I can certainly appreciate a fantastic company upon having an excellent experience. InHouse Electric is represented well by each and every single crew member. They are all courteous, punctual, and extremely professional. They call if they're going to be late, keep you up to date with what they have completed and where they are in the project, as well as double checking everything that you have requested before they do/finish it. Superb. Standing head and shoulders above the rest, if you want any electrical work done in your home, give Patrick at InHouse Electric a call and tell him Vera sent you: (425) 923-8706. (*I know, I know - very SHAG of me but they're so good I can't help it!) An exemplary company. I would DEFINITELY recommend this to anyone who needs anything from a new electrical swich to a whole house rewire. ---------------- Update 01/09/14: I called Patrick from InHouse Electric over the holidays because my outside outlet wasn't working. He was as affable as the first time I met him, remember me and took the time to listen to my concerns and answer my questions. He asked "Have you tried hitting the 'reset' button?" I hadn't. That did the trick. It was a simple fix that saved my household money and saved him the time to have an electrician out to the home. Fast forward to today, I needed to have my laundry room dryer's outlet looked at and called again. He had someone out very quickly and just as friendly, respectful and experienced. I even had them answer questions/look at/address other concerns I had that turned out to be minute at best. They were in, they were out and everything was cleaned up. It was like I'd waved a magic wand. InHouse Electric definitely raises the bar for the industry. They really should be the set standard for all contractors across the board. I will continue referring them and singing their praises. A must for your needs; InHouse Electric = A+/5stars.
Description of Work: It was roughly 10K but AFTER all the extras. InHouse did our entire electrical system: updating the meter box from 100 to 200AMPs and replacing our old knob&tube wiring for a house just shy of 900 sq.ft. with an unfinished basement. --------- Update: 01/09/14 - retuned to look at an outlet
