About us

I am a sole proprietor service company with 1 associate, in business since 1987. I have experience with SIPS, Rastra, ICFs, Sing Logs, Advanced Framing and Load Bearing Straw Bale types of construction. I do all my own structural engineering when it is possible to use the prescriptive seismic code. I sell solar electric and solar hot water systems for 5 different dealer/installers. I offer flat fee solar site assessment/consults with the fee based on distance from my home office in Edmonds. I offer a flat fee office consult of 2 hours for $120. For a big enough potential project (whole house design or big remodel) the office consult is free. I am generous with my time and charge by the hour but do not typically give fixed prices. Office hours are by appointment only and phone calls are normally answered from noon to 8 pm Monday through Friday. Phone calls may be made and answered at other times as well. I have been designing solar systems and green homes for 23 years in WA State. We provide expert balancing of issues, costs & aesthetics w/ the clients’ values as the priority. I am a Co-founder of NW Eco-Building Guild www.ecobuilding.org, Past-pres. Solar WA Assoc. www.solarwashington.org, Life member ASES www.ases.org, Founding board member Sustainable Edmonds. I believe that our future lies w/solar energy. My personal & professional mission is to help make it so. Passive solar design works well in the NW and low toxic construction is more important than ever with homes being built tightly. Community solar development has received new incentives in WA. I can help make it happen in your town, after I'm done with the one in my town. I maintain a solar e-mail group that receives periodic announcements, updates and alerts, always bcc and I never share the list. Let me know if you'd like to be included. I do not install solar electric or solar hot water systems and I don't build any more. I work with 5 different dealer/installers and know many green contractors, but my days of physical labor are mostly over, except for kayaking rivers.

Chris is great on the phone - part expert, part cheerleader. He has a lot of knowledge and a fabulous attitude. He answered all my questions and then some. I had already done tons of research online but it was great to bounce ideas off of him.
Description of Work: I called Chris for advice on a green remodel design, specifically how best to insulate and which heat source to pick.
