Dan was the only company to exactly quote the written scope of work I provided. The 2 other companies failed to do so. Dan made suggestions that were spot on and we followed his lead. Work started quickly and efficiently. The only hiccup was one base cabinet showed up the wrong size. Dan handled that. When the correct size cabinet showed up his crew went to work on a Friday morning to complete the job. One of his crew, Matt stayed till 7 o'clock on a Friday night to finish the backsplash and complete the job. Pretty impressive. My wife and I love the kitchen. We will definitely use Dan for future projects.

Our experience with Spencer Home Solutions was fantastic! The owner, Dan, was courteous, professional, and knowledgeable. Matt came out and tiled a shower pan and enclosure that my husband built. He was very kind in working with our homeowner mistakes, worked with difficult materials, and completed the job a day early. Our new shower is beautiful!

Our gas fireplace was not working-- the pilot would turn on, but it wouldn't ignite. I called a couple of other places first and their earliest available appointments were in Jan and Feb. It was a pleasant surprise to hear that Spencer Home Solutions could fit us in that same day! Over the phone, it was explained that there would be a service charge for the visit and diagnosis, at which point they would quote a cost to fix the problem. Compared to the other places I contacted, the cost seemed very reasonable. They arrived right on time and got to work. It took a couple of hours to diagnose the issue, and in that process they fixed it as well. I was pleased that even though it had taken quite a while to accomplish, they still charged only the service/diagnosis fee. The guys were friendly and also walked us through the issue and gave some advice on what to do should it happen again. It was a good experience, and I can definitely say we would call Spencer Home Solutions, LLC again in the future.

Dan and his crew were great! Explained everything to me along the way; very courteous and informative; gave me options; they were very thorough, cleaned up in between, professional and skilled.

This was our first experience with any general contractor for an interior home improvement project. We met with three general contractors in preparation for the project before selecting Spencer Home Solutions, and our experience with Dan and his team was fantastic! Dan was able to come to our house to discuss the project and design ideas within a few days of our initial contact and was extremely thorough in his analysis of what would be feasible given the original construction of our firebox and within our general project parameters, much more so than other contractors we contacted. Dan is VERY detail-oriented! It took a little less than a week to get Dan's first project proposal. The proposal was detailed, and itemized by project component (i.e., demo, tile and hearth installation, drywall, firebox electrical, mantle, carpet, etc.). Dan was upfront about us having complete control about what work we'd like him to do vs. what we'd like to do ourselves. For example, we indicated that we'd like to do our own painting and trim, and would handle carpet outside of the project scope. We changed our design 3-4 times prior to executing the final contract, and Dan was very patient with us each time. The only reason we rated Responsiveness a "B" instead of "A", was that it took a little longer than we hoped to get the final proposal numbers - we were eager, but he was understandably busy with other projects. Thankfully, he was great about putting our project on his calendar while he finalized the numbers so that our proposed start date would not be delayed. Dan was great about setting expectations, from project duration, to when the 'loudest' days would be - key information for a family with 3 young kids! Our family room sits just opposite our kitchen, and Dan did a great job of curtaining off the project area and directing dust/debris out the window - there was very little dust to be cleaned off our counter tops, even after significant brick demo. After the first day - no additional clean up was necessary. We encountered one hiccup in the project - we made a last-minute change to the hearthstones we selected and purchased independently for the project. Unbeknownst to us, if the installation had proceeded as originally planned (placing the hearthstones on top of the original brick hearth), the gas fireplace insert we purchased/installed through a local retailer would not have fit! Thankfully, Dan double-checked all the specs prior to the installation of the new surround materials and we made a last minute design change to demo the entire brick hearth and place our new stones directly on the sub-floor. Great catch - that could have been painful, and it still turned out gorgeous! We LOVE the result of the project, which took about 5 days, and have received many compliments on the fireplace surround. Dan and his team will definitely be our trusted go-to contractor for any future projects we might have. Highly recommended!!

I had originally scheduled a service call for maintenance and inspection - (and in my case, troubleshooting) of my gas fireplace. The provider called me just before he was on his way to my home to discuss the specific services that the Angie's List offer covered and I described to him what my needs and expectations were regarding their services. A short time later he called me back and said that there was an emergent (no heat) customer whose call he wanted to take instead of mine as it was more certainly a call that could be completed. I saw the logic in the decision and agreed that it was a better move than servicing my equipment which was operational, so the call was cancelled and no services were performed by the provider at my home.

The job went well. Dan was quick and efficient. After completing the job, we spent time discussing means of maintaining a smooth flowing sink in a house with old and sometimes questionable plumbing. He also spent time discussing a possible remodel. It did, however, take Dan almost a week to come out and do the job. He offered advice on how I might remedy the problem myself, but was simply too busy to get out. Unsucessful at remedying the problem on my own, I opted to wait. Dan seems very honest and straight forward. He is easy to talk to and communicates well. I guess I would say that he was worth waiting for! I have worked with this company before.

Communication was fast and efficient, made the appointment quickly. They showed up on time and were very professional with the work they did. They were clean and were very careful not to make a mess. He was great about explaining everything I need to know about having a gas fireplace and was very thorough. Would definitely have them out again.

Dan was wonderful. On the first visit, he cleaned fireplace and explained how to maintain the fireplace for the future. On the subsequent visit on the 30th, he replaced the remote and receiver. The receiver did not fit in the existing electrical box and he had to modify the box as well as a small part of the wall. This was exceptional service and made life much better for our mother who has mobility problems. She can control the fireplace from her bed or living room chair without having to get up to turn the fireplace on or off.

When our kitchen pipes burst after a new dishwasher had been installed by the store deliveryman, water damage made our cabinets unsalvageable. Spencer Home Solutions to the rescue! They worked with us to us decide what could be accomplished within our budget and then got to work. We now have an absolutely gorgeous kitchen, new quartz countertops, new sink, all new cabinets, extra lighting, and removed and repaired our dated soffit ceiling. They were always professional, timely and excellent workmanship. We are thrilled with our new kitchen and can't wait to have them back to refinish our wood floors throughout our home. We needed to get the emergency drain valve on our water tank hooked up to a nearby drain, and the first plumber that came out told us it could not be done in a reasonable fashion - wanted to route exposed pipe through the house. We then called Spencer Home Solutions - they were courteous, prompt, and after evaluating the situation, were able to come up with a good solution that wasn't overly expensive or complicated - drilled a hole to adjoining room that had the washing machine and connected it into the existing drain! They were also able to service our furnace at the same time which was very convenient for us - great service, happy to use them again in the future.

Dan came out initially and spent a fair amount of time looking at the house, discussing our ideas, and asking questions. He was polite and knowledgeable. His estimate was reasonable and we hired him to do the job. The only part of the whole job he didn't do was lay the wood floor. He always communicated when he would be working, how much he would be doing and was upfront on all costs and changes. The job took longer than he had originally planned, but that was my fault for adding things to the project mid-stream. He made the schedule work, even with my changes. Those changes required hiring an electrician, and getting the city out for inspection twice. Everything was still ready on time for the floor company. He was always willing to work with me to ensure I was happy with the way things were turning out. He built a beautiful surround for our fireplace out of oak and cedar and made it fit perfectly with the existing brick and ceder work Several times I wasn't sure how I would like something and he tried many different options until he found what made me happy. He was professional though out the entire process and very easy to work with. I will be hiring him again.

If the list had an A+ category, I would check it for Spencer Home solutions. Our project was to re-configure an existing cabinet/bookcase to fit a new flat screen TV. The job was complicated because the space was in a dividing wall and opened on both sides -- to a living room and a den, but not all of it was a pass-through. Dan Spencer spent time assessing the job, offering good solutions to some bracing/support issues. About 10 days after the estimate, he did the actual work very carefully & accurately. He had done part of the cabinet work in his shop and finished by using our garage as a work space [too much rain to do outside]. He enlarged and supported one space and built bookcases on the opposite side. He matched the existing stain perfectly and left the area very clean. The cost INCLUDED all materials plus installing the TV on a wall bracket, which he assembled, within the space. [A satellite TV company programmed the unit] I assume that he would apply the same attention to detail to fireplace work.

Estimate was good for converting open wood burning unit to woodstove/pellets, but he seemed to have a strong preference for gas. We don't. On the troubled fireplace he said he could replace parts with stuff from our 2nd fireplace where previous owners had started conversion to gas but didn't finish. However, I guess because of code now he would have to lock the flue open. Since we don't have fireplace doors, that's a non-starter. I find it kind of ridiculous my system isn't grandfathered so that a simple repair doesn't end up requiring total replacement, but that's code, not contractor's fault I think. More research is required on that. I was hoping for a simple, quick and cheap repair and that's what I'm going to do - myself. I feel like this contractor gave good advice although he was pushing the new gas insert - (wish I could afford it). I got my $50 value on the inspection just from learning what parts I already had and the suggestion of using that instead of buying new. I'm not ready to replace everything yet and I can't have all the heat in my house escape in the meantime...and I do want a functioning fireplace, so...
