Twice when I ran a load of laundry I had water backup in my bathtub (that appeared to have dirt in it). I assumed there was a problem with my sewer line, and after receiving a recommendation from a friend and reading reviews on Angie's List and other sites, I called Mike at Sewer Friendly. He came to my house on a Sunday morning, ran his camera through my line, and determined that I didn't have a sewer line issue blockage at all. He believes I have a clogged interior drain and gave me a recommendation of someone to resolve that (he doesn't do interior drain clearing). He was quick to respond, punctual, called before arriving, was in and out of my house quickly, and didn't charge me anything. All in all a very good experience.

I got on Angie's List and found approximately twenty plumbers in my area. I called seven of them, five didn't answer, two answered but couldn't service my problem until the following week. Mike, at Sewer Friendly, LLC. answered the phone promptly, troubleshot the problem over the phone, agreed to pick up a new disposal and required parts and gave me a time he would arrive, how much it would cost (which was lower than the other two plumbers I contacted), and came an hour sooner, completed the job promptly, efficiently, friendly. They replaced some seals and reconnected some pipes at no extra cost. This is GREAT service. Mike and Kurt were very professional, really friendly, and efficient. Thanks to Sewer Friendly and to Angie's list.

In short, they were great! I always get 3 bids on each project (unless it's really small), and they consistently beat the big companies by a long shot. The owner, Mike, is responsive and friendly, which I guess is how they got their name. The quality of work was very good. On one project an old cement sewer line was cracked underneath a 4' high rockery, so part of the rockery had to be removed. They dug down 7', repaired the line and replaced the section of rockery and it looked good when done. They certainly exceeded my expectations on this job. One other benefit is they can usually start the job quickly, where some other companies I've used are booked out three weeks. When trying to close a house sale, three weeks wait time isn't an option.

I first called Sewer Friendly because I needed a video inspection done ASAP. I'd had reoccurring sewer issues for over a year, and I don't like to let things wait. Mike was the only person who was available to come out that day, and was actually there within an hour. He was very polite, and was careful to put a heavy cloth down before entering the carpeted section of my basement before getting to the clean-out access. He walked me through everything he was seeing and told me everything that was wrong, and seemed pretty knowledgeable. I wasn't pleased that he charged $250 for a video inspection and did not provide a DVD recording of it though. I have used two other companies who each charged $165 and $200 for the inspection and left me with the DVD record of it. I also found it annoying after a while that he kept telling me over and over that he was cheap, when I found his prices to be above other companies. A few weeks later while working on some interior drains, I found the problems on the side sewer had returned and were getting worse fast. Again, Mike was very responsive- I called him at 4:30pm, and he told me he would be there at 9am the next morning. Things went bad after that though- he called at little before 8:00 to tell me he was going to be there almost an hour early. This was not good news for me, as I was staying with relatives and needed to get my son to school before going to the house. I did have Mike replace the section of pipe, but he told me it was sloped back toward the house and would require thousands of dollars of other repairs in order to get the line properly sloped. I thanked him and sent him on his way, as I needed to get my wife to the doctor. Later that day I got home and climbed down in the hole to see how bad it was, and found that because of the way he laid the gravel bedding down, Mike created a high spot in the line. I called him and told him there was plenty of slope to be had, but that he sloped it wrong. He said he'd take a look. A few hours later two of his workers showed up and were able to slope the line with no problem. When I got the invoice I was upset that for a full price repair, he told me there was a problem that he created and tried to sell me additional services. He said "mistakes happen" and that the bill would be unchanged because the scope of work was completed. I don't know if he sloped it wrong out of neglect or intentionally to try to sell me more services, but I can't risk bringing him back to my home. My sewer repair work is now entirely done and working well, but if I hadn't checked it myself Mike would have created more problems for me.

They were so accomodating with me on doing everything that needed to be done. Because of their innovative approach, I was able to save a lot of money (like 70%). I would highly recommend them.

We met with Mike to go over exactly where the problem area was and ask questions about the trench less repair technology. We asked him to pay special attention to a few areas (rockery, Japanese maple tree, and some stone). We than scheduled a time to start the repair (scheduled to take 2 days) and Mike and crew came over on a Thursday morning. He attempted to get a camera line through the sewer to be able pull his trench less machine through to replace the existing concrete pipe. The damage to the sewer had gotten worse and he said that he would have to find another way to get the line through (another hole or small sewer scope). He said that he wouldn't be able to start until the following week, which was a little scary because I was going to be out of town for the week. He reassured me that everything would go smoothly and be done by the time we got back. Mike and his team did an excellent job and you almost couldn't tell the sewer line had been replaced. We had a friend drive by during the work and send a picture and it looked like a MAJOR project, but by the time we got home everything had been cleaned up and looked as good, if not better, than when we left. Mike replaced all of the rockery (looks oddly better now) and took care not to damage my Japanese maple tree. Hopefully I don't need to have my sewer worked on again, but if I do I will definitely be calling Mike from Sewer Friendly.

You can't go wrong with Sewer Friendly! Mike (the owner) came out an hour after I called him for an estimate. It was immediately obvious that he knows what he's talking about and he's extremely passionate about what he does. After having 8 (yes, EIGHT!) estimates, Mike's was the second lowest. (The lowest never even responded to emails when asked about availability.) Other bigger companies quoted me twice what Mike did and didn't show anywhere near as much interest or concern about the job. After I let Mike know I was going with him, he stopped back by to see if I had any other questions. He had me sign a contract and put half down, and then showed up early the next morning to complete the job (replace 25 feet of old concrete pipe and install 2 cleanouts). His crew was professional and efficient and the job was done by that same afternoon. When they were done they took the time to make sure both my yard and the neighbor's looked exactly the same as before they started. Two days later Mike showed up again as a courtesy to snake the line and do some simple plumbing work for me. I would recommend Sewer Friendly to anyone without hesitation. Spending a month's paycheck on sewer work is inevitably painful, but at least with Mike and his crew I can be confident that it was done well and with a smile. =) Oh, and FYI... Mike talks really fast and is super hyper! It might take you a moment to get used to it, but really it just goes to show how passionate and FRIENDLY he is. =D

I ended up not using this company because I found one that seemed much more professional. I was about to sign paper work with Sewer Friendly and have them do the job, but when reading their agreement there were so many disclaimers and wording that didn't seem appropriate that I hesitated. When I asked about these elements, he was quite willing to change things and said that he was just using some boiler plate, but to me this indicated a lack of care to details that I was not comfortable with. I went with Raymark for the extensive side sewer work needed. They checked the kitchen line and discovered that it was not draining at all due to a slippage in the drain line from the kitchen as it left the house. All water had been just going into the soil. Had I gone with Sewer Friendly this problem would probably not been discovered or would have been added on in the middle of the process. I think he may be fine for basic jobs, but am not confident that they would do anything very complicated or unusual in the best manner. Raymark has a much longer history, a bigger staff, and pay health benefits for the crew, which leads to a more skilled and loyal workforce doing the job. Sewer Friendly would have possibly been cheaper in the short run, but I'm not sure they would have been in the long run.

(I am writing this recommendation months after the fact because I have just gotten more aware of how important they can be to small contractors) The side sewer in a rental house was clogged on Labor Day weekend and a standard root cutter did not solve the problem in hours of expensive work. The plumber who failed to clean the problem said it was because the sewer needed to be replaced. I called two major sewer contractors and their estimates to repair/replace the sewer were $25,000 to $40,000. They did not take the time to inspect the sewer with a video camera. Mike was recommended to me and came out on Saturday to look at the problem. He spent 1 1/2 hrs with me, used the video camera to thoroughly diagnose the problem and told me that I didn't need to have the sewer replaced at all. He recommended a contractor who used extremely high pressure water to cut through the roots. He charged me nothing for his video service and his valuable expertise and his service call on a holiday weekend. I highly recommend him for his customer service and integrity.

He was on time, friendly, and seemed knowledgeable. He did a sewer scope of the sewer line. The sewer line was good (he made a copy of the sewer cam's video on cd and while it wasn't pretty it was informative). I didn't shop around for price so I can't comment on his prices but the service was good.
