"[member name removed] - Thank you for your input. We understand your concerns and we are also glad we were there to help."
Todd did an exceptional job, very thorough with excavating, jackhammering, tunneling, plumbing, repair and clean up. He provided clear explanations of the work and updates throughout the day. He may be the most polite plumber I've ever met!
Communication with staff via email was first rate, exceptional service and great price. Top notch!
They were very efficient, and the work was done in three days. My poor neighbors have been at it for over a week :(.
I was very pleased with the work done and although I hate spending money on stuff like this, I have to admit that not having to worry about the sewer backing up is a real joy.
They had to dig down through my concrete patio to get to the line, and dig down to the line at the end of my property just at the end of the steps before the sidewalk. My House is on a hill and the sewer runs down to the street. I was really glad they didn't have to dig up my steps or run a trench all through my yard. They also had to dig three holes to run the new water line. One in the cement driveway, one in the yard and one by the house to connect everything along with spigots and shut off valves.
The crew was on-time, polite, and very hardworking. They had the sewer line excavated, replaced, and refilled/concrete re-poured within a day and a half. The yard hardly looks like it was ever disturbed. My husband and I are very pleased.
Something worth noting: Mike, the owner came out to check on progress on the second day. While here, he noticed that our next-door neighbors' clean-out was too high and improperly set in their side yard. He and his crew cut it down and fixed it all *free of charge*. We were all impressed by that and other neighbors will likely be giving them a call in the future.
The crew doing the work appeared in a timely manner, and they worked efficiently, keeping us informed of progress, and accommodating our questions along the way. At some points they were delayed, waiting for the city inspector to come and approve their work before it was covered up. When they had dug down about 12' to the connection at the property line, they informed us that if we wanted to line the 6" pipe to the main sewer, a subcontractor could do that the next day, but it would cost an additional $3,000. Although we had already decided it made good sense to do that, we felt a bit "over a barrel" with a $3000 decision to be made on the spot, "as long as the hole is dug anyway." We would have appreciated having that information at the outset when we signed the contract for $8900. Since we are novices at working with such projects, we would have appreciated more open conversation with Mike about that. He did not communicate with us at all after his initial visit to make the proposal.
We were amazed that their digging machine could squeeze so easily through the garden gate. Large portions of the line did not need to be dug up, because of the pipe bursting technology they used, and the flexibility of the pipes that were drawn through where the old line had been. Damage to the landscape was minimal, although we did not have a fine lawn in the areas that had to be dug, so we were not worried. A neighbor was concerned that, despite their efforts to keep a displaced rosebush moist and well watered in the sandpile resulting from the excavation, the rose was likely to die, and a boxwood bush was replaced 6" out of alignment with the others in the hedge. This was called to the crew's attention by the neighbor just as they were preparing to leave. The crew foreman said they would come back and provide grass seed for the parts of our lawn that had been dug up, and that they would move the boxwood bush, but a month later that has not been done. (The contract clearly says the company is not liable for any damage to landscape. Except for our neighbor's complaint, we were pleased that they did so much digging with relatively little damage to our yard, and they made an effort to leave the place neat and tidy.)
Overall, they were able to perform a service that will keep our sewer system functioning without trouble for years to come. It had been clogged by overgrown roots in places, and blocked by two "bellies" where sagging pipes had clogged the line. In less than a week they solved our problems, and we feel that the cost was not unreasonable.

"(deleted member name)- Thank you for the nice review, we really appreciate your business and are here to help anytime. Thx again"
noticed our basement bathroom draining much slower than usual. Unfortunately, I
did not think too much of it. The following day, the swell water drainage
system, for which Sewer Friendly installed a one way flapper valve back in
November of 2012, began to backup in to the basement. Thank goodness we
installed the flapper valve, or worse than swell water would have been backing
up in to our basement. A sizeable flood filled the basement, approximately 1?
deep. Sewer Friendly responded promptly when I notified them of my emergency.
Adrian came by with the sewer snake, ran the it down the quick access pipe, and
broke the line free within moments. The basement immediately drained of all of
the swell water.
Mike came by
shortly thereafter with equipment to scope the line. He discovered a break in
our aging sewer pipe, along with a dip in the run to where we meet the
neighbors. After considering the options:
1. Two repairs at different locations on an ageing, ailing sewer line
or
2. Replace the entire line from the side of house to the hook up with the neighbors
I took Mike?s recommendation and opted to replace the entire
line instead of continuing to cobble together the old, existing line.
Mike and crew took 2 days to dig the necessary points to
access the sewer line. They were very considerate of my property as well as my
neighbor?s property. They disassembled a section of fence, dug holes, brought
in a small digging vehicle, piled earth up, and set up the system for a city
inspector to survey and approve Mike?s sewer work. With the inspector
satisfied, Mike pulled a new pipe through the existing pipe using a technique
called ?pipe bursting?. At the end to the job, the whole work area looked as if
it had before. The fence was securely and aesthetically reinstalled. Excavated
earth was put back in place, and any waste materials were removed from the
sight. Mike scoped the line all the way to the city hook up in order to ensure that
it checked out to his satisfaction. All is well again in our household with a
fully functioning, modern sewer line that should serve us for many life times.
Thanks for the quality, professional work Sewer Friendly.
"Member- Thank you for having faith in Sewer Friendly and calling us out again to help you with your plumbing issues. We appreciate your kind words and hope that you tell others who you know that may need help in the future. Mike and the crew want to wish you and your family well. Thank you for your business. Sewer Friendly"
One Saturday evening, I pulled up to our house to see a fire truck and several fire fighters very busy, although not in firefighting equipment. To make a long story a little shorter, the City of Seattle's sewer main had clogged and backed up. Water was gushing/ flowing OUT of the drain at the bottom of our driveway and had flooded our newly finished basement. Sewer water. Ick.
Once I heard it was sewer water, I called Mike with Sewer Friendly since his crew had done some major sewer repairs 3 months before that. He told me he was sure that it had to be the sewer main since so much water was coming in - and he drove over here at 7:30 pm on a Saturday to check it out, confirm his suspicions and give us some advice. Unbelievable service!
A couple of weeks later, Sewer Friendly put in the backflow valve, and we have every reason to expect, they tell us, that our basement won't flood if the sewer main ever backs up again. (By the way, the City accepted liability and paid for the restoration of our basement and goods, but they didn't pay for the valve.) This peace of mind is worth every penny.
Friendly, responsive, professional. We would hire Sewer Friendly again in an instant & would recommend them to all our friends.
Furthermore, we would recommend that anyone with a basement ask if this valve is a good preventative measure for your house. Trust us - you do not want to go through this mess. The price of the valve is a small one to pay to prevent the 3 months of uncertainty and displacement that we've had.
"Thank you for your review. We appreciate the kind words and hope you tell your friends and family about Sewer Friendly. Mike and the crew all hope things are going well for you and your family. Thank you for your business"
Mike came over the next day and put a camera down the line and found root intrusions. During the process of getting the owner of the home to pay for the new line Mike was very professional and patiently explained what was going on and presented the seller and myself the some options. We now have a new sewer line which was completed in a days time. When I came back to take a look at the yard to see how the job went I was surprised that the yard looked untouched.
This all happened a few years ago and to this day Mike and his crew at Sewer Friendly drive by my house, it turns out they are stationed just down the street, and if I am outside he will stop to say hello.
I am writing this review now because we are currently having an addtion added to our home. We are expecting a new baby an need more space. When the contractors had to take out my waterline Sewer Friendly rushed over to put a new one in. His crew is really friendly and maybe that is where they got their name? During the process of having a remodel we have unfortunately had some issues with our contractors. Which is very stressful. Everyday it seems there is something else. However we are finally at the point that the plumbing needs to be put in and of corse we called Sewer Friendly. They are working on the plumbing today and they keep us notified of some other issues that our contractor is not addressing such as rotting sub floors in the crawl space. Which they put in in the last month. The plumber working for Mike is very helpful and we appreciate him letting us know there is yet another issue with the work being done on our house.
The entire project has been a little over whelming but Sewer Friendly has made me feel comfortable about the plumbing work. I know they are doing a great job and are on our side as a customer. They take pride in thier work and it shows in how they treat people. This is why I am now an Angie's list member because I do not want to go blind into a project again and wanted to tell everyone how this plumber and his crew ROCK!
Sewer Friendly really thinks about different options and presents them to me with knowledge and experience.
"Thank You so much for your kind words. As you said we are working on your plumbing currently and we are glad things are going well today as well has in our past jobs on your home. Please let us know if you have questions or concerns during the process. We are always here to help. We look forward to seeing your remold finished for the new addition to your family."
"Member - We wish we were there to fix this incident for you. As you stated we have a great reputation and that comes from taking care of people. We are sorry you did not call us back and tell us what had happened. We have recently viewed your sewer scope again taken before we started the job and because of the condition of the pipe there is no indicators on the video of the neighbors line on camera. This can happen if the line is off set or is badly damaged enough that you just cannot see the pipe or Y joining your sewer line. Before a job we pull a sewer card, or map of the sewer systems which include the surrounding home's waste systems for this very reason. However on your map, that the city provides, does not indicate anywhere that you and your neighbors homes share a line. We want to ensure you we did our homework and as you stated had no indication that we would cause a back up for your neighbors. I would like to apologize for the issues with the job and really wish you would have allowed us to make things right with you and the other home owners. We hope everything is well now and if you would like to talk further about this matter please feel free to call me or Mike anytime. My number is 253-651-3080, I am the office manager here at Sewer Friendly or email me at [email protected]. Thank you again we wish you well."
Mike responded via email that evening telling me that it looked like our sewer was backing up, and that he would give me a call on Sunday. He called Sunday morning as promised. When we talked, he said his team was super busy and wouldn't be able to get out to us, but that he had arranged with another company to come out at 8am on Monday morning to check it out. He told us how much we would be paying the other company, and what to expect.
The other company came arrived 15 minutes early for our appointment and quickly got to work. They reported that our line was blocked near the street and thought it might have something to do with the construction occurring on our street. They also said that they had called Mike in to talk to the contractors because he's so good at it.
So, Mike showed up and talked the contractors, then came in and talked to us. He told us to call Seattle Public Utilities to have them come see if the issue was their fault or not before he did any work. He explained the work he would do if the city didn't take responsibility and gave us an estimate for the work. While we were waiting for the City to come out, he arranged for nd one of his teams to meet at our property to resolve our issue if the City didn't think it was their fault.
The City came out, but said the issue was on our side of the sewer line, not theirs.
Mike's teams got to work right on time, and found that our sewer line had been crushed by the work performed by the city when repairing our water line. They took extensive pictures of the issue. Mike called after his team left to explain the work they completed, and explained what they did and what they found.
He told me to contact the City to get a claim number so we can get reimbursed for the work that was done on their behalf.
I highly recommend Mike and his team, and won't hesitate to use them for any future plumbing/sewer needs.
"Member- Thank you so much for the kind words. We take pride in making sure the people who we work for are taken care of the best possible way. I often share these reviews with our crew and will be proud to read this one at our next meeting. We always look forward to working with you and wish you and your family well. Thank you for the business and feel free to call us anytime."
Thanks again Mike for responding immediately on Saturday when our basement began flooding. You saved our unpacked belongings
from being soaked as the saturated earth gave up the water through and around the foundation slab. Could have been really messy, but your prompt response to our call got the situation under control until the work could be done.
"Member- As always we appreciate any review we receive however your review is very detailed and we can tell you took time and put thought into this review and we especially thank you for that as well as the pictures. Thank you for the detailed review and your business. No one wants to need a plumber but we do our best to respond fast and make the bad situation the best we can make it for our clients. take care and enjoy your new better running plumbing."
