Johnson and Sons Construction

Our remodel project went very well, and we are pleased with our experience with Johnson and Sons. Vic Johnson visited our home for my wife and I explained all the details of our remodel. A couple of days later, Vic brought his plumber to the house to make sure our requests were doable. After a few days, Vic emailed us the estimate. The estimate addressed our specific requests, but also listed the assumptions or allowances which can affect the price. The price was good, just a little higher than I wanted, but Vic's reputation and experience sold us. We agreed on the contact and Vic gave us a list of the items we needed to select: tile, cabinets, countertops, plumbing fixtures, etc. In the meantime, Vic's team got to work on the demo. His entire team was very courteous and professional. They protected our carpet and hardwood floors and they kept the work area clean. John (Vic's brother) was the guy in charge when Vic wasn't present. They asked me and my wife whenever they encountered a situation that required our input or approval. As the project progressed, Vic kept us informed on the budget, and additional ways for us to keep the cost in our plan. About every other week, my wife and I thought of some new request to throw at Vic. He accepted our input with a smile, but was completely honest about which of our ideas just weren't in the realm of the possible. A few times, I was displeased with a few things; I brought these to the attention of Vic, and he made changes to satisfy me. I've had several folks come to work on my house, but I've never had the quality and attention to customer satisfaction that Vic and his team demonstrated. The project was completed on the schedule that Vic quoted. He was flexible when accepting payment, which made things much easier. I have recommended Vic's services to many of my neighbors already. I have also contacted him again for another project.

Vic & his team were great! There's always a few hiccups when construction is being done, but Vic handled everything quickly & with the utmost professionalism. The workmanship was beautifully done and we love how everything turned out. Couldn't ask for a better team to have worked on our project(s) & we will be using Johnson & Sons for our master bath remodel in the near future. Communication was awesome & Vic was a joy to work with. This is absolutely the best company for your projects. I strongly suggest you give them a call & check them out. You won't be sorry!

The project was well planned out, I was always informed about the details and included in the decision making process. Everyone involved was professional, prompt and courteous. But even more important than these traits are Vic's integrity, commitment that the job is done to the highest of standards and that you the customer are treated with respect. To put it simply these guys are amazing. What seemed like a straightforward job quickly turned epic, as the 3-4 week job became 3 months due to more damage than anyone expected and a few delays that they could not control. Those delays involved inspectors being slow to respond, a couple of their suppliers getting orders mixed up, and we added some additional drywall work. Vic spent a lot of time on the estimate, which was detailed and clearly written. I love that once I found the things I needed/wanted, (fixtures, tile, and all that) mostly online, Vic did the shopping. This was great, because he made sure everything was good quality at the best price he could find. Vic is very 'hands on', his favorite word is "communication ". He was on site everyday and available for questions throughout the day. This was very different from anyone else we had talked to, where they would do the estimate and then disappear. Jon and Tony are talented, creative and very detailed oriented. They were professional, friendly, and patient with all my questions. Jon has an eye for design and balance. Tony is an expert with tile. They were able to make my vague ideas come to life. I had a couple of unusual requests and everyone worked hard to find solutions that worked for me and were functional in my home. They do use subcontractors, but supervise the work closely. They were professional and concerned with getting the work done in as timely a manner as possible, one even came out on Christmas eve. The bathroom is awesome. We are planning to have them back for work in the master bedroom.

It went great! Vic Johnson was the overall general contractor, and he brought in subcontractors for electricity, plumbing, and painting. Vic kept on schedule (except for a few days that were delayed to the cabinets delayed) and kept us informed every step of the way. He was out of town for the first week of the work, and had his brother Jon Johnson oversee the work then. He made sure we met Jon beforehand and knew how to reach him. Jon and Tony del Zoppo did a lot of the work that was not under subcontract. The electrical work was done by Dave Schmidt and John Gregory from Good Sense Electric and the painting was done by Ryan Yonker and Izzy from Della Painting. They all did great work. But what may have impressed us most of the subcontractors was the plumbing work that required bringing in gas (we wanted to move from an electric to a gas range). Other plumbers had all thought they would have to make a hole in our basement in order to do the work, but Steve (not sure of last name) figured out a way to do it by bringing it under our deck and making only one small hole in the kitchen floor that was easily covered over. This saved us the hassle and cost of having to do drywall and painting in a different part of the house. I rated price as a "B" just because the estimate was one of the highest we received out of 6. But I'm not sure the others would have stayed on budget, which Vic did, and I didn't really trust the others for various reasons. Vic was great as a communicator and organizer, and throughout the process he answered all my questions promptly and in detail (and I had a LOT of questions), and he gave advice when we asked. For example, the first backsplash we picked he told us that the kind of material it was made of would suck up stains and be hard to clean. The first paint color we chose he let us know would really be too bright and out of character for the rest of the house. All very appreciated! We just love the final product that we now have as a kitchen!

Vic, Jon and Tony are the best! They produced quality work and Vic goes above and beyond on the customer service end. From what I could see he puts in very long days to be sure everyone is ok and problems are attended to. I am so happy with the results and would recommend this company to anyone. I was told by a neighbor that my kitchen looked like a "model home" kitchen and the house is 17 years old.

Everything went smoothly, start to finish. We didn't have a very specific idea of what we wanted initially, and Vic was extremely helpful, able to give us some ideas, and was patient with us being indecisive. He explained things thoroughly and I felt comfortable asking a bunch of questions without feeling dumb. He was also able to give us some good recommendations for other unrelated work that we needed done (fence, stair railing, etc). They were willing to work with us to let us do some of the smaller stuff (like painting) to keep costs a bit lower. We had a relative do our flooring, which I'm sure made it much more difficult to coordinate schedules and work around, but they were great about it. As far as day-to-day during the project, communication was great. We always knew what would be happening and when. They always put stuff away and tidied up at the end of the day. This may not seem relevant, but we have 2 very young kids and a dog that we tried our best to keep out of the way (obviously not always possible) but they were great with them and really patient with us being underfoot a lot of the time. They're nice guys and it never seemed awkward having them around the house. We did come in a bit over budget. But, this was because of us making expensive decisions and adding things on. Anytime something would be added onto the bill, we knew about it ahead of time and gave it our approval. There weren't any surprises. The kitchen turned out great and we LOVE it! Even now, months later, Vic is exceedingly helpful. I e-mailed him for a copy of the invoice for our taxes (I'd lost it) on a weekend morning, he sent it to me within an hour. Amazing. I'd highly recommend them, and am hoping to have them back in a couple years to redo our bathrooms.

Fabulous! Vic knew what I wanted before I did, could visualize it and help me visualize it as well. He was very patient with me, explained everything in a way I could understand and always made me feel I was his only customer. As is the nature of construction, not everything went smoothly all the time... but those few moments were handled professionally and in such a way that I had complete confidence they would be resolved quickly and to my satisfaction... which they were! As a whole, the project turned out even better than I had anticipated and I am totally in love with my new home!!! Well done Vic, John and ALL the amazing subs you work with!

Johnson and Sons Construction was a true pleasure to work with. From our first meeting with Vic to the day-to-day interactions with each one of his crew members during the project, we felt confident in their ability to get the job done as discussed. Good communication plays such a vital role and Vic was fantastic at keeping us updated often. The crew problem-solved without compromising quality of work. Jon and Tony were great at checking in at times when needed to go over any questions on the little details and they are master craftsmen. As a family with two working parents, two kids under 5, and a dog, we were able to still live fairly comfortably in our home during the remodel. The construction team was very kind to our family and as a mother, I never once felt uncomfortable having them in our home while we were there. Our project timeline was kept and most importantly, we love our new spaces! We look forward to having Johnson and Sons Construction remodel other areas of our home in the future!

I was very happy with the work done by Vic, John and Dan. They were easy to work with and always available to answer my many questions. I was concerned about the siding because it was not replaceable. Based on other estimates/explanation of work needed by other contractors I felt the quality of work by Vic and his team was super high quality. They were able to remove and replace the siding without a hitch.

They started in February. They said the remodel would take 3 weeks. It actually took 3 and a half weeks but we were pleased with how fast things went. The quality of the work was excellent. They were very responsive. Vic stayed in good communication with us to let us know exactly what was going to happen and how things were going. When we had questions - he got right on it and got back to us the same day.

Things went very well. Work was completed as described, on time and on budget. Vic and his crew are very easy to work with and the subcontractors they brought in for plumbing and electrical were excellent also. They were very helpful and easy to work with as we went through the process. We enjoyed working with them and will definitely consider using them in the future.

The project can be summarized as a great success. We are delighted with the outcome. We commend Vic, Jon, and their team for their professionalism and their pride of workmanship. The quality of the work was excellent; the floors were leveled and made into uniformly flat surfaces, all the walls and repaired ceilings were similarly uniformly flat and seamless, the finish carpentry (cabinets, molding, texture, paint) was excellent. It is important to note that Vic provided greatly-appreciated help and guidance with the design at the start, and during the project. While we had design drawings, and selected finish materials and products prior to the start of the project; we encountered the typical problems with suppliers - tiles no longer available, inadequate supply of matching bullnose tile, plumbing fixtures on back-order, etc. So we made new selections which fit the theme of our remodel and were better suited for their application. Vic recommended a mosaic tile for the shower which was a superior solution to our own. Vic recommended a mirror frame installation that resulted in a superior balance to the look of the new counter/cabinet layout. Vic recommended a modified cabinet finish that resulted in a better crown molding balance to the room. Vic recommended a tile backsplash finish that was much better than our original plan. We observed the workmanship of Jon and his team during the project. They have a self-imposed high level of expectation in their work. Several times they made adjustments to rough work and finish work to meet their own satisfaction. We appreciated this demonstration of pride in workmanship, it left us very satisfied with each stage of completion. The team did a great job of communicating with us, asking questions of us when necessary, and explaining next steps so there were very few surprises for us. We essentially were given a guided tour of the process as it unfolded. The final price of the project was within 4% of the original bid. Each of the changes were fairly priced by Vic, he provided a list of credits and extra expenses as we made each request for a change. There were no surprises for us regarding the price of the project. Overall, we found the entire remodel experience to be very positive. We thoroughly enjoyed working with Vic, Jon, and their employees. We highly recommend them, and we will use them again when we next have remodel needs.

It went very well! Co-owners Vic and Jon were wonderful to work with! Honest, good communicators, hard-working, good sense of humor all around. They were willing to work with me, a nightmare customer (according to my husband) because I see ALLLL the little details. They were more than willing to let us handle the post-remodel painting and baseboard re-installation to help us save money. I was also able to source all the materials myself, another money saver, and Vic was more than willing to offer good advice and quell fears I did not need to have. He was also very hands-on, was here the first day, checked on the job frequently. We had some small delays and trials, as there all for ALL remodel projects. I stress that NEVER did Vic or Jon or any of their crew cause us any problems. Vic and Jon have their own employees and also do use a couple of subcontractors. A time or two the subcontractors were the cause of delays or mistakes but nothing major. And they were overall good to work with, as well. I wish that were true for our city inspectors, who gave us grief on a couple of truly stupid issues. With our contractor's help and a tiny bit of legwork on my part, we resolved it all but did have delays due to the city's non-issues being issues. My husband wasn't aware how much remodels cost, but I knew it would come in around $20,000. And it did!

It went really well, Vic worked with us throughout the process to determine what we wanted to do and was super flexible with us. We're very happy with how the kitchen turned out. They gave us leads to shop around for all the bits - granite, cabinets, tile, etc. and were very helpful throughout the process and explained how it all came together. Thanks Vic and Jon!

We had a great experience with Vic, Jon and their crew. Our bathroom/laundry room/family room are absolutely beautiful! Everyone was professional, on time and did top notch work. The job was completed on time and on budget (actually a little below budget). It truly was a better experience and outcome than I ever thought possible. I have to mention that communication was outstanding during the entire job. Vic stayed in touch and notified us of any change or problem. He was always available if I had any questions or concerns. I really appreciated that as I can get a little nervous over all the details. We intend on calling Johnson and Sons for our next remodel. I highly recommend them!

My husband contacted Jon with a request for an estimate on Fri. He said he would contact us early the following week, which he did, and came over to do an estimate. We felt the price was extremely reasonable. So we asked him how soon he thought he could work us into his schedule, because we had previously experienced long time frames just to get an estimate. He said they could work it in later that week at the end of their work day. Sure enough he and Derek were back on Wed & had the job completed on Thurs! The fence looks great, and from the condition of the yard afterward, you would not know that any construction had been done. Jon was extremely helpful and easy to deal with. Their company primarily does remodeling; and we would certainly use them again for more extensive work, based on this experience.

Overall, the whole experience went better than I could have imagined. Mainly because of Vic's responsiveness and attention to details. He made sure that we were well taken care of; going above and beyond to get all the cabinets parts to look great and fit perfectly. His guys were timely, efficient and professional. Their trim work on the new cabinets is beautiful and looks so finished! We told him we wanted to do our own tearout, plumbing, electrical and painting and he had no problem with any of that. Everyone's scheduled seemed to work very smoothly. having the work done in January/February was great. It's a quiet time of year for us after the holidays so we could really focus on the many decisions that were needed. The kitchen turned out beautifully. I highly recommend this company! This is the second project they did for us within a two month period. As mentioned in previous review for master bathroom job, that we would use them again, and we did, and will for two more projects. This was estimated as a 2 day job. Took a day & a half. Details are listed above in what provider did. As before, Vic & his crew are the "Best" ! Just outstanding workmanship, and cleanliness. They care !

The job went fantastic. Vic's crew are all very professional, dedicated, friendly, prompt, communicate well, and very very talented. The same can be said for his subcontractors, from the plumber, to the plaster guy, to the shower door installer. First thing they do, is come in & put cardboard down on flooring & plastic down on carpet. They do a clean up everynight, and near total clean up at end of project. They were very consciences to our cat by keeping front door closed at all times. Vic himself is probably the best communicator of a contractor I have ever had. He is extremely honest, will tell you the pro's & con"s and not just tell you want you want to hear. He will work with you, listen to your ideas & incorporate them, if it is feasible. That was huge for us. Very trustworthy, & left front door unlocked for them, while we were at work. On top of that, one of the nicest guys out there. He let me do the painting & staining, to save money, and also let me make the dump run, saving me 180.00 in dump fees. I did some of the initial removal, and he discounted some for my work. Plus the Angies List discount. My wife & I, highly recommend this contractor to everyone needing a great, trustworthy, friendly contractor for their project. I don't think there's any better. There might be cheaper, but you get what you pay for. We are using them again, this month, for our downstairs bathroom flooring & backsplash, and new floor for our laundry room.

Vic was very knowledgeable and kind. Provided good advice for me. Unfortunately, my complete time requirement does not match with his work schedule since he has been booked with other clients for a few more weeks. I will definitely call him back for my next project in the future.

Vic and John were calm and professional. That's pretty key on a remodel. Stuff happens. But whatever came up, I always felt that they were more than fair. The quality of their work is excellent. They are very easy to talk to. Vic really makes himself available. And they continually went out of their way to help us through the process. We worked hard to communicate what we wanted and in the end we couldn't be more pleased with our new bathroom. Thanks a lot guys... great work!
