I had a good conversation with Lexar and it sounded like they'd be a good fit for my project, but weeks went by and after several emails to them over a 2 month period I never even got the courtesy of a response to say they weren't interested in my project or couldn't do it. Needless to say I didn't go with them for my project. My Dad was actually considering Lexar for his new home - that's how I heard about them - but after my experience he's since moved on to look at other builders. Amazing that some contractors lack common courtesy to call and let you know if they can't do your job.

Lexar Homes (Olympic Peninsula, 360-379-1799) was and is so easy to work with! I can't imagine that building a new house is ever easy, and I was living abroad at the time my house was being built, which further complicated things. However, Lexar respected that it was to be MY house, so therefore everything should meet with my approval, all while actually dealing with my mother here at home. They were very good about keeping both of us up-to-date on progress, and letting both of us know of issues or problems, and decisions that needed to be made. My beautiful house was completed on-schedule (if not early), and lived up to all of my expectations. Even more than one year after moving in, I am still very happy with the quality of my house. Matt Winter (the guy/general contractor in charge of building my house) is wonderful, and remains very responsive to any little question or possible problem I present him with. My mom enjoyed working with him immensely during construction, and I've only had 1 inquiry that turned out to be an actual problem since moving in. Matt and Lexar are dealing with this problem with as little pain to me as possible, and at no cost to me. Everything else has been my wild imagination, and explained to my satisfaction. In short, I have nothing but praise regarding my experience with Lexar Homes. There has only been once aspect of my experience with Lexar that I was not completely happy with. That is the sales lady's recommendation (before finalizing the contract) that I hire my own contractors for some of the work. She really encouraged this, claiming that customers enjoyed the "sweat factor" that came with doing so, and that it often resulted in less cost. However, perhaps because of the remote location, my mom had a terrible time finding contractors at all, let alone ones that I could afford and would meet scheduling deadlines. After all was said and done, I (and my poor mom) really felt that having Lexar do everything would have been much less stressful, and that any additional cost would have been minimal and more than worth the peace of mind it would have afforded. All in all, if I were to ever build another house, I would be perfectly happy to use Lexar Homes again.

The cost advertised was very low, because it was without ANY options. We spent over 3 hours talking of what we wanted. The quality looks to be very good. Every little thing is an extra cost. We received an estimate, but after discussing it, we wanted to go more local. Lexar said they could build all winter - what wasn't said at first was that we would be responsible for keeping the site cleaned off. The main problem we had was the continued pressure to talk to them again after we made the decision to use someone else.

I decided to go with a custom builder who did more and better work at a lesser cost.
Description of Work: Sucked me in with a low price guarantee and a general idea of what was going to be included and ended up higher priced than a custom builder. There was no follow up call or contact from Lexar after their last cost or bid which was missing some items and cost was double what was first estimated.

Over budget, exceeded completion date by 6 mos, buyer repeatedly given incorrect information, plans wrong resulting in wrong windows, plumbing, electrical, garage attic access, doorways, cabinets, toilets, & materials being delivered after house was finished, changes made and items incorrectly installed without buyer's knowledge or input, construction wrong and/or incomplete, many requests/discussions (some in writing) omitted and later denied by contractor, contractor stated he destroyed notes of requests by and promises to buyers, several workers pointed out to buyers problems that would not pass Code, workers & buyers told not to talk to each other, buyers initially encouraged to ask about anything they did not understand, and later told they asked too many questions, contractor had worker open boxes & remove siding materials with no explanation to buyers, ground moisture barrier also disappeared but was later installed by a worker who volunteered to provide material & do the work himself, many features buyer was initially told were standard later were charged as Change Orders, many items originally ordered and paid for were not able to be built due to price increases and/or structural incompatibilities,; i.e. solar tubes and fireplace. House was ordered with 400a electric service, but got 200a. Many more problems not included here. During the construction several neighbors & other acquaintance told us of their own or their relatives' or friends' bad experiences with Lexar, that Lexar had a bad reputation for using lower-grade materials, overcharging, etc. , and that had they known in time they would have discouraged us from ordering our house from that company.

[removed member name]. I'm so sorry you are feeling this way. If i could put a picture up it would be of you on the final walk through expressing how happy you were. But let me try to explain the truth to the people reading this. When you first came into our office you were almost in tears and Ken was just angry because you guys couldn't afford to build your dream home. So we helped you come up with a plan in your budget that would work. Little did we know what we were getting in to. But after many months we finally finished your home. But let me explain a little bit about what went on. 1. Over Budget: All and i repeat all overages was on your part. If you would have stayed by what you ordered and not added things that would have helped you. Most of your overages came from your own site prep. Overlooking things that later had to be added because of changes you met. It had NOTHING to do with us. 2. Exceeded completion date by 6 month?? What does that mean. We say we will finish in 140 days. If i exceeded by 6 months it would have been a 10 month build. We poured footings March 22 2013. We did our final walk Sept 25th 2013. At total of 175 days. I believe most of the extra was your counter tops not being on when you said they would be so we waited and waited. Then when we were finally able to finish your porches didn't get built in a timely manner. You changed door openings on us and window sizes on us all of which meant i had to get people out there to do the work that was already done. You decided you wanted to change the way we do our vinyl flooring so that caused a delay because we had to lay the underlayment and instead of being able to set the cabinets at the same time we had to get the vinyl laid and then bring the cabinet installer back in. How many times did i ask you to let me do my job and build the home you bought but you just had to keep taking over and sending subs home and making changes causing all these delays. 3. I will admit that some things were wrong on the plans. But most all of this could have been easily resolved if you would have let me do it instead of going Home Depot, Lowes, Ace and allow them to tell you what they thought was right and you taking your word on everything instead of listening to the people you hired to build your home. If you go back and look at your contract, we did everything on the contract. Doors were never to be handicapped everywhere. Only where they were drawn in on the plans. But because you wanted them we sent someone out and changed them out just like you wanted. Same as the 9 ft ceiling issue. You never ordered it and thats why you didn't get it. Plumbing??? No one in my life has ever ordered shower head down at face level. So i couldn't ask my plumber to change that out. My plumber couldn't do the bathrooms because you didn't get the counter tops on. If you just would have let us do our job we would have had all this done a lot quicker. 4. Garage attic access was an oversite on my part. I apoligize again like i have already. 5. Don't know what you mean by toilets, Never heard a complaint about them till now. 6. Cabinets? They were delivered as you ordered them in the contract. 7. Something came to the house after it was complete? I'm so sorry for that big issue. Judy as usual, once again as with your emails you are so wordy that i can't keep up with you and i certainly can't respond to everything you wrote down, may of which are either lies or misunderstandings on your part. I'm responsible for the house. Any issues you have with codes regarding hooking up your gas, electrical, septic, water to the house is not our problem. There were no codes violated in the house. Everything Passed. But i'm sure its because you stepped in to make sure of that. You say you've had people tell you things about us. Maybe you did, maybe you didn't. I know i had plenty of warnings also. Almost all of my subs were very frustrated with you and thats why i told then not to talk to you but to have you call me. Every time you had them change something it affected me in some way and slowed your build time up in some way. In the end Judy, you have a beautiful home. I won't be able to stop you from complaining because thats what you do. Imagine if you hadn't have found us. You probably still would be without a home. Now you do. I do want all the readers to know that 90% of this is lies and i can supply the proof from the workers. I'm tempted to have my attorney get involved because of the slander shes presenting, but i have way too many customers that are happy with us and would stand up against Judy and Ken Reed in our defense. So i'm not going to continue to have her cost me anymore money.

Hello [member name removed], We really appreciate your input here, and are saddened to hear about your experience. We would like to diagnose the root of the problem here so that can take care of you and make sure this does not happen again. If there is a home building project out there, we absolutely want it. We are really hoping this a is technical difficulty and not a personnel issue. Would you please call me personally so that I can work with you to expedite the information you need? Thank you, David Danton Lexar Homes Operation Manager 360-807-1849

I inquired about a specific model house Lexar buids. First email response was timely, but weeks went by the time I got an answer as to price. Their price sheet is not clear so needed more questions in order to get a price. There are other builders wanting the business, so I went else where.

Description of Work: I did not use this provider because they are located in Seattle and I went with a more local company. But they were prompt and professional in providing an estimate of the cost, as well as suggestions on how to reduce the cost of building the house.

So far everything has been good. We haven't started building yet and are still waiting for our loan to close. We were at a home show in March and we knew we wouldn't start building until October but Lexar Homes still let us lock in at the $2,000 off, even though we did not have our finances secured. The house plans and everything cost $1,700, but they did not cash the check until we got approval from our lender. That was upstanding. I just figured they would cash our check and if the funding didn't go through we would just be out that money. So from March until August they held the check. I would rate them an A overall.
Description of Work: We got a quote in March and signed a contract with Lexar Homes. We are getting our house plans done now.

They have been wonderful. We are holding off building our new home until later this year but we will definitely use them to build the home. They have been very polite and understanding; not harassing us or anything. They keep in touch periodically but are not pushing us. They have been very helpful and I will use them again in the future.

Lexar set the right expectations with us during the sales process. The quality of construction was more than I expected for the price. They used quality materials and focused on energy efficiency. They told us who they would be subcontracting up front and allowed us to tell them who we wanted them to use. They always answered the phone when I called and allowed me to participate during the build which helped me to save money. Lexar Homes allowed me to make minor changes (like moving a wall) to the floor plan and didn't charge me extra. They offered lots of choices for customization (both inside and outside) so the finished product would reflect my tastes. The law in our state requires a 1 year warranty on everything, and Lexar extended that to a 10 year limited warranty. They stressed that if we had any problems at all to call them, even if we didn't think it would be covered by the warranty.
Description of Work: Lexar Homes built our house. They started in December of 2010 and the house was finished in March of 2011.

I can't say enough how impressed we were with Lexar Homes! We searched home builders for months, including building ourselves, before we finally decided on Lexar Homes. Everyone was wonderful to work with. It started with our salesman Curtis, he was friendly and patient (i had a lot of changes..lol). Before we even signed a contract, he came out and took a look at our property to make sure what we wanted would work! He was on top of it! Shortly after his site visit, we were in the office signing papers. We started our site prep in February, so we were a little nervous on build time, however, our Project Manager, was right there giving us pointers and answering all our questions. We have never built a home before, so I can't tell you enough how great that was! After our foundation was completed and inspected, framing started and was completed in 3 days....couldn't believe it!! We lived on site and was able to correspond with every contractor, everyone was friendly and respectful our our property. Never once did we have to pick up garbage from the contractors. Our house was completed before projection date, we were thrilled! Our Project Manager, Superintendent and even the Branch Manager came to do the final walk-thru. We would definitely build another home with Lexar Homes!
Description of Work: Lexar Homes built us a beautiful 2400 sq ft. custom home.
