This is the third time we've hired Dan with Metropolitan Construction. Simply put: we trust him. He does what he says he's going to do, and he does it well. Dan excels at building relationships and surrounding himself with really good tradespeople and designers. He's not the most expensive or the least expensive, but he's incredibly honest and fair. And last but certainly not least, he's an excellent communicator and very responsive. Seriously. Whenever there were issues to be solved or unexpected delays (because with a remodeling project it's bound to happen), I never had to wonder about what was going on or when work would resume. Dan was always on top of it, and now we have a beautiful new kitchen!

Dan was very easy to work with and very professional. Unlike other contractors he returned calls promptly and always arrived on time. We are extremely happy with the results.

I could not recommend this company more highly. From the contractor to subcontractors every aspect of the three month remodel went smoothly. I made adjustments and additions to the remodel along the way and the entire team was efficient, prompt, respectful and I often joked and meant I would miss them when they were finished. From small to large details, response time was prompt and Dan was on site almost daily. This was my first time working with a contractor and I couldn’t be more pleased with the process and outcome. I can’t wait to work with them again and have no hesitation in recommending them. They made a substantial project a joy. I regularly sing their praises to friends and colleagues. They are a fantastic crew and made every effort to make the remodel exactly what I wanted and then some.

Today the nicest man called and asked could he come in ten minutes? We sort of had it set up for Friday, tomorrow but I said yes. I actually had the safety bar already but it needed drilling and everything else. Soon the job was done so I asked if they preferred Visa or a check. Do you know he said "Oh, there is no charge!" I just about cried. My husband just came home from the hospital, my water feature was acting oddly and the dishwasher flooded the kitchen. And here these wonderful men came out of the blue to help. Yes, there are VERY good people out there. Thank you Dan. MERRY CHRISTMAS. You and Metropolitan Construction Inc. are my angels.

MCR's bid was lower than the competition and we definitely got the "B minus" team. We chose MCR based on the "A" reviews on Angie's List but we did not receive "A" quality work. While Dan was excellent with emailing updates, he was unreachable outside of M-F, 8-5. When the shower valve sprung a leak because of a mistake of the plumbers, we were forced to shut off our water supply for the entire weekend until we could get a hold of Dan. Here is a list of the mistakes made during the bathroom remodel: forgetting to turn the power back on to water heater, forgetting to turn the water supply back on, losing part of the shower valve which caused it to leak water when we turned the water supply back on, installing the shower head outlet too high for the shower head assembly (even though the manual was right there), tiling the tub surround without first making sure the walls were plumb (and then charging us extra to fix their mistake and causing a huge inconvenience to us by the almost two week delay in rebuilding the wall and reordering the tile), installing Hardie cement board without taping the seams as recommended by the James Hardie company, leaving gaps between the cement board and the tub and the drywall without explaining how they were going to make the gaps waterproof (it took three times of me saying I was concerned about water infiltration before they offered to paint a waterproofing membrane on the cement board), installing the toilet without leveling it and leaving the tank wobbly, installing the top of the door trim crooked, installing the window sill piece off center, leaving some gaps in the floor leveler which makes the floating floor shift a bit in places when you walk on it, cutting the thresh hold too short. I even had to insist a level be used in both directions when the vanities were being installed. Does the bathroom look great? Yes, but we started out with a horrible bathroom. Was it worth dealing with all of the mistakes for the price we paid? No. If you are able to stay home, constantly monitor the work being done, and be a strong advocate for yourself, then you probably will be okay. Unfortunately, we have to work outside of the home. Each day we dreaded what we would find. I ended up taking a couple of vacation days just so I could monitor what was going on. While Dan is charming and communicative we don't think there was enough supervision of the work being done. We wondered if they were overloaded with larger, more lucrative jobs then ours. Our remodeling experience with MCR felt like an afterthought on their part.

It was an excellent experience. We both work from home, so we spent a lot of time seeing the team work. Dan has a great crew of people and we were very comfortable having them in the house. The quality of the work was very high and they took their time. It probably wasn't the fastest or the cheapest but we feel we got our money's worth!

From the beginning of the process all the way through the end, Dan was extremely communicative. He provided a schedule of the work to be performed and was extremely knowledgable and professional.

Dan is great. We are not detail-oriented people. and we hadn't done anything like this before, so he gave us the name of a bathroom and kitchen designer he often works with (Hearthstone Interiors), and Kirsten was great, too. He scheduled the work and he and all of his subcontractors were very skilled, nice, and hardworking. Everything was done well and on time and everything was cleaned up. The bathroom was a little expensive because we included a heated floor. Dan is very funny and honest and overall great. I would definitely work with him again, and I am getting an estimate from him next week for the next remodeling project we have.

Dan Stupur gave an estimate to remodel our bathroom. The estimate was very reasonable. We signed up for him to do the work. We made a time for them to start, but we had to leave to go out of town spit was delayed a month. Even though they had other customers scheduled by the time we returned,they were able to fit us in. Dan was very easy to work with, he checked often to insure the subs were doing their job, he sent an email the day before each job letting us know who was coming and when they would arrive. We would recommend this company VERY Highly. The sub contractors that Dan uses have been working with him of several years. They were efficient, arrived on time, cleaned up their messes each day before leaving, were friendly, and each did their individual jobs without any problems. Dan kept to the original price we had agreed on, except for a few minor additions we requested. The cost for those additions were reasonable, we had no complaint. If we have any remodeling in the future, we would not hesitate to contact Dan again and we would recommend him to anyone looking for a jobs well done. Rod & Joyce Flake

Hall bath plumbing had to be accessed from the exterior of the house. Siding was taken off and plumbing repaired. New siding was attached. Job was done in three days. Master bath shower enclosure job was done in three weeks and went very smoothly. There was a slight delay when more tile was needed and at the end when the glass doors didn't arrive on time. Overall, all the subcontractors were very professional and punctual. I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for a building contractor.

Last year Dan and team created a basement bathroom out of a laundry room. We loved his work and professionalism so much, we had him this winter gut and re-do our upstairs bathroom. Very high quality work. Extremely responsive by email (my only method of communication). Great job! I'd hire him to do our next project if we had one!

We've always been happy with Metropolitan, and we'd highly recommend the company. Dan, the owner, and his crew do excellent work, he has a great personality, and he is always respectful of the house when completing projects. In this instance, he actually laid down a padded protective pathway from the front door to the bathroom in order to prevent any damages or messes from occurring.

Nothing really stood out. Since we only had the one meeting I'm not sure but I mean he was punctual, he was professional, he was neat and clean. All those kinds of things but I have no idea what his work would be like. We did not award it to him.

The project went pretty much as expected. The end result matched what we had in mind at the start. The project took longer than anticipated (when doesn't it?) due to delays in getting materials from vendors (tile, granite, doors, fixtures, etc.). Local suppliers don't maintain much stock so just about everything is "special order". The crew was very personable and they responded quickly whenever any problems occurred. We were very satisfied with Dan and his crew and would not hesitate to contract with him for any future projects.

We had an excellent experience. Dan Stupur (owner) was very organized and professional from the initial bid, the planning process and thru the construction phase. He was personally involved in the project from start to finish. He scheduled each step so we knew what was happening and who was doing it. He has a group of very experienced subs that he has worked with for years and it shows. Communication with Dan was very good. He responded quickly to any of our questions, comments or concerns. As in any remodeling project there were several surprises, modifications and 'why didn't we think of that before' moments. All were handled without any question. Importantly, during the two month project Dan or his staff and subs were all in and out of the house daily and they were all great. We would highly recommend Metropolitan Construction.

An outstanding experience! Dan was straight-up from the get-go, and both he and his right-hand man, Travis, were a pleasure to work with. They kept us apprised of the work schedule and communicated changes - or decisions we had to make - in reasonable time. On the staircase reconstruction, the railing had long been a bugbear to get and keep anchored properly. Dan and Travis were the first contractors to work on this to figure out a real and permanent solution to this real safety issue. And the completed repair was invisible, they blended the drywalled "hole" so well. We were so happy with the work being done - quality, timeliness, personalism - that we ended up adding a few more bits and pieces (not included in the dollar figure above): replacing our warped front door and several interior doors, all of which had to be custom-finished. Also: We have a multicat household, most of whom are indoors-only. They were careful to close doors and make sure areas were as cat-proof as could reasonably be expected. We would absolutely work with Metropolitan again!

His people or subs showed up on time and worked with the a high level of craftsmanship and detail along with being very accommodating to any concerns I had. Very professional. I have and will continue to recommend this company to anyone and will be contacting him again for the next project..

Dan visited my house as scheduled, reviewed the work I needed done, and responded with a professional, written quote. He came up with the most creative option of all bidders, on re-routing a pipe that intruded on the room I am remodeling. I decided to simplify the project and hire another contractor who bid lower, but I would definitely consider hiring Metro in the future.

We haven't started the project yet, we are about to start in a week but up to this point it's been terrific dealing with them and getting it started. We are completely ready to go and we are starting in about a week. They are waiting for everything contractually. We are contracted to do the job, the deposit has been made, finishes have been picked out and all the paper work as well as the permits are done. We are waiting for the products to come in and when everything is in they will start with the demolition and put in the new stuff. Just in general I chose them and I liked the way they did business so far. They kept me well informed of what they were going to do. They let me know very specifically what my part in it is to get done as far as picking out stuff, where to go and who to talk to. They've been very helpful with explaining things.

Dan Stupur is the contractor. He was on time. He has all excellent people that work for him. He did exactly what we wanted him to do and nothing more. We had 4 or 5 different people come in and they wanted to do other things. His tradesmen were excellent; he didn't do any work himself. We are real happy with our shower. There wasn't anything we were unhappy with.

I wanted my clawfoot tub installed into an impossibly small space. Dan worked with me on a complex solution that is exactly what I wanted. We ended up with a beautiful master suite but kept the character of our 1952 remodeled gem. He had to match remodels from 3 different eras. Ended up having to touch 5 rooms due to plumbing issues but left everything looking untouched. I love my new roomy bathroom with my original hardwood floors from the 50's, the new pedestal tub, quartz shower, with new modern sinks & cabinetry! We were able to recycle what I loved about the house & integrate improvements.

Dan and his crew were such a pleasure to work with on this bathroom project. Dan had us meet with his architect and gave us a timeline for the work that was adhered to. It was really super that we could expect that the subcontractors would come on a specific day and, what's more, it really happened. Thank you, Dan, for being so easy to communicate with and so easy to work. Dan's crew -- especially Travis -- were all great and their workmanship was superb. The estimate Dan gave us initially was right on, and my wife and I certainly agree with all the great reviews that Dan and his crew have received from other clients on Angie's List. The project was finished just in time for a couple of guests who now have their own bathroom in our basement. They absolutely raved about the workmanship -- one of our guests is a licensed contractor himself -- and was so impressed with the workmanship and the care that went into the project. We have no hesitation in recommending Dan and his crew to anyone who might need a new or a remodel project.
