I had an issue after giving a deposit. It had to do with labor/materials and they only cared about making as much money as they could. I would not do business with these people.

I read the other review of Lexar Homes with great dismay. Our experience with Dave and Jodie Orth could not have been more different than theirs. First of all, this is not the first home that we have built. Over the years we have owned a couple of fixer-uppers, and five new builder homes. We have a complete understanding of the principle of "you get what you pay for," and don't suffer any illusions that with the cost they offer we are not getting a high-end custom home. Our goal was to build a nice home on a half-acre that we could enjoy. We did our homework and asked for bids from several builders. We were cash buyers so knew that we would not be able to afford a "dream home," but in reality wanted a comfortable well-built home for our retirement, and that is what we got. We chose a design and made some modifications, signed our contract and we were off and running. We chose to do some of the work ourselves; the exterior and interior painting and the tile work. We did not choose many upgrades as we know that there is an understandable mark-up and wanted to be conservative with the cash that we have. We knew that we could obtain some of the upgrades after-market at a cost savings. Lexar worked with us all the way. We had a couple of glitches along the way. Their salesman at the time promised us a couple of things that could not be delivered. Having owned a business, we understood that an unscrupulous employee can cause you no end of heartache. We did not hold them to these promises; to us it would have been unethical. Our construction began in April 2016 and we moved in mid-September of the same year. We had several project managers that were Johnny-on-the spot when it came to our questions and concerns. Lexar goes above and beyond with their construction standards and uses quality materials. Their crews show up on time and are professional and courteous. We were fortunate to be able to watch the construction daily as we were living in our trailer on the property. These guys and gals work hard and work conscientiously. They took the time to explain things to us when we had questions. Our doors and windows work perfectly; everything is level and air-tight; The only problem we have had is with our engineered hardwood floor, which was an upgrade. It is squeaking and creaking. We called Dave and he came right out to look at it. He referred our complaint to the dealer/installer They came out right away and inspected it. The dealer checked under the house for the joists and water damage, used magnets to see if the nails were spaced correctly and came back to us commenting that the crawlspace is completely dry and the floor appeared to be installed perfectly. They have contacted the manufacturer who is coming next week to inspect it and make a determination. Dave handled all of that for us; definitely servic after the sale. Our neighbor had a high-end custom home built and just the other day she commented that she wished that she had contracted with Lexar. Their home has problems that you would expect from a low-end builder; problems that we have not experienced. If you want a well-constructed solid home that you can customize with your own taste and style over time, then this is the builder for you. If you are willing and able to accomplish some of the work yourselves, then all the better. It is quite a savings! We are very happy with Lexar, Dave and Jodie and their crews!

Building a home with Lexar of Burlington was one of the most disappointing and stressful experiences of our lives. We began our build in late 2014 and right from the beginning there were problems. Starting from the Tyvek wrap being applied incorrectly and us having to insist it be done according to manufacturers specifications, a job stoppage of 3 weeks for a window change, changes in materials including a bath tub too small to sit in (we are not large people), and a skylight installed off center in the living room--everything was an argument to get corrected. Lexar's owner, Dave Orth, actually said to me "You can't expect your house to look like the model home"- this was regarding the off center skylight which I expected (silly me) to be installed like the example in the model. He also said to me at one point, when I complained about the quality of work not being craftsman-like; "You are not dealing with craftsmen". We have been in our home almost 2 years now. We have doors that do not shut correctly, paint that is rubbing off of interior doors, caulking on all countertops cracked and needing replaced (I think this is due to settling), windows that allow dirt in at the seal, siding with 1/2+" of caulk to fill the joints. These are just a few of the problems, by no means have I listed all of them. Now we are very concerned that these problems are just what we CAN see, what may be worse that we can't see? This is our dream home, we saved for years to be able to afford it, now we wonder just how long it will look nice. What a nightmare!

Description of Work: I am in the process of having them build a house for me. Their basic prices are very reasonable. To go beyond the basic packages is more expensive than I think they need to be. Their building standard for their basis packages is above what is required by code and they offer comprehensive service and contracting for the construction of the home. I am just in the beginning process and am pleased with the team of people I have been working with.

The home specialist with spoke with was not very enthusiastic about her product. it was a sort of love it or leave it presentation about that homes and frankly it was a big brochure handout rather than actually going through what made Lexar Homes different compared to other custom home builders. Overall I was not impressed with the price of the home nor the additional costs to make the home as energy efficient as say True Built Homes or Reality Homes.

All the subcontractors are a delight to work with. I give them all "A's" and will continue using them in the future.
