The Angie's discounted price was fantastic. We did have to pay Roofing Specialists a little more, in addition, due to the complexity of our roof and the need for sheathing that wasn't present (common for cedar shakes). The folks at RSNW were courteous, prompt, brought samples, made the paperwork easy, and did the job very quickly (3-days)! I'd recommend them and use them again myself.
Description of Work: Complete re-roof, including sheathing, underlayment, vents, flashings, and trims (all new, pre-finished metal). Basically, everything except the gutters.

I wasn't completely satisfied. I wasn’t terribly satisfied. They didn’t give any feedback on the condition of the roof. However, I had asked for an estimate on replacing the roof, in which I got lots of information on; but I did not really get any information on the condition of the roof or what types of repairs they may have done. Since it was a roof maintenance deal I expected them to give me a report. I still have no idea or understand what work they actually did.
Description of Work: I purchased a big deal for an annual roof maintenance check.

They were punctual and worked incredibly hard. The gutters looked good however, I just wished the roof was a little bit cleaner; they had to rush to get it done in time.

I contacted this roofing company to complain and they were slow to respond and finally got back to me that they would redo work. By that time I didn't trust them to touch my roof. My contractor had his roof people explain that the roof peak was failing and the overall roof was in bad shape, so I had roof replaced and dormer roof done correctly by Cirque Building who I found through Angie's List. I asked NW roofing to refund the dormer coating work only and they never responded after calls and e-mails. I have pictures of the roof after Roofing Specialist NW completed their work, as I had my contractor take them after finding the poor condition of my dormer roof 2 months after Roofing Specialist had supposedly fixed roof.
Description of Work: After inspection which was a big deal purchase for $199, they spent 5 minutes with simple hand sweep of gutters without water test or rinse of gutters. They said I needed a coating on a slopped dormer and also said I needed some new composite replacement tiles on roof peak. I said to go ahead with work, but bid didn't include replacement tiles on peak of roof. I called to clarify that this was suggested per the expensive big deal inspection. I never was able to get through or a response. I paid bill for dormer roof coating and had also approved replacing gutter on dormer and bill covered that. Two months later I hired Cirque Building to do bathroom remodel and when he went to vent fan through roof from bathroom, he let me know my dormer roof was in bad shape and coating was cracking and no flashing on side had been replaced so there were gaps.

Response from ROOFING SPECIALISTS NORTHWEST
This file is over 6 months old, so it has taken a while for us to research from our archive. We ALWAYS clean gutters by hand as it is the best way to not do damage to existing\old gutters as high pressure from hoses and water sprayers can pop weathered seams and make them leak. Also, its much less messy on the client's property. We also cleaned the roof of moss debris and replaced the missing shingles that were noted. Our roof maintenance inspection indicated that the roof with the items we recommended (coating and gutterwork) would extend the life of the old roof as designed by the Big Deal. Admittedly, our team did miss the seperation at the edge of the roof as it was not evident from above, only from the elevation view. We did not have access to the interior attic area so was unaware of the degree of deterioration to the underside. We offered to recoat (despite the fact that hairline cracks in coating is acceptable per mfg) and offered to resolve the seperation by installing new edge metals and install a new edge flashing assembly (none part of our scope or earlier repairwork) free of charge and requested the client's approval to proceed. Client indicated that the work was already done by her other contractor. Client indicated that she expected us to her for the refund the coating work and being unresponsive, and that she would file a negative report on Angie's if we did not comply. I have checked our email and phone log records -our records that we have responded to the client in every instance within 4 days, most instances, far less.

I purchased a Big Deal coupon for this company. Overall experience was not good. Customer purchased 2 maintenance service plans. One for the parent, and one for the son's home nearby. We coordinated the appointment to service both at the same time to meet both homeowner's expectations. Both roofs are steep 10:12 in pitch(walkable slope is 6:12 and below), per the Deal description "Coupon valid for homes that have a 'walkable' slope, not excessively steep." A limitation, however, in good faith, and service, we offered to return with harnesses, anchors, and steep slope safety equipment to properly perform the work regardless of the exclusion. Our field team was able to do a cursory inspection of both roofs at time of our only visit, and determined that both roofs were advanced in age. wood gutter rotted away, both roofs need a pressure washing and treatment, ridge shingles missing, shakes loose, B-vent badly deteriorated, fascia tails rotten and the chimney flashing was in bad shape. After our visit, homeowner faxed us a copy of an old inspection report (from a home inspector) on her roof which outlined that the roof as - limited steep and at "nearing the end of its life expectancy" with an approximate age of 18years old+. Homeowner asked us to credit her for both Deals and address the known deteriorated\damage issues on her roof including - exposed felt, and skylights not fastened to roof curbs. We agreed that we would get an estimate prepared for her and apply a discount. (The Angie's Roof Maintenance Deal does explicitly state that "Written estimates will be provided for any additional recommended work") The next day the homeowner called and didn't want an estimate only a refund.

Initially the company came out and cleaned my gutters, and inspected the roof. My initial report for this company was poor - as I was expecting my roof to be cleaned, not my gutters. After contacting the company, they took quick action, responding to my concerns and expectations. The employee who came to clean the roof was prompt, communicative and courteous. Upon his first trip he completed part of the roof, then came back a second time after communicating to me that items on my patio needed moving/covering before he cleaned the roof above. At this point I am very pleased with the service I received.

When I e-mailed to schedule this I specifically mentioned my roof needed cleaning, on the house and a detached garage. When I arrived home from work after the appointment date I saw that my roofs looked the same and I contacted the company to inquire about why the work was not performed. I was informed that I would be receiving a report in the mail. At that time I assumed that they had not arrived in time to do the work. I was surprised that the report indicated gutter cleaning only. I would not have paid $199 for gutter cleaning on my 1600 sq. ft. home, let alone the and quot;regular priceand quot; of $325. This purchase was a waste of my money, and time.
Description of Work: My gutters were cleaned and an inspection report was provided. I was expecting my roof to be cleaned. Per the language of the deal: Roofing Specialists Northwest, is offering a roof maintenance Super Service Plan for only $199! This service plan normally valued at $325, saving Angie’s List members of $126! Periodic maintenance is essential to prolonging the life of your roof. The roof maintenance Super Service Plan is good for up to 2 man hours and includes the following: We will clean the debris from your roof, and gutters. We will inspect all flashing on your home including valleys, chimneys and skylights. We will caulk all flashings as necessary. We will repair any nail pops and reattach any loose shingles. We will re-nail any loose gutter spikes. And, we will provide a written estimate for any additional work needed. We will also check for damage caused by weather, animals, or any other acts of nature. You want your roof to last, trust the Super Service of Roofing Specialists Northwest.

Hmmm, ok. This may have been a communication error. Bit surprised as we have over a 94% direct client referral rate.(HIGHEST in our industry) This client indicated via email that 1) her gutters were in bad shape, that 2) she had moss on the roof and that 3) large trees were surrounding the property. She also indicated that she purchased the home just a few years ago and knows that the gutters back then would need to be replaced due to rust. Based upon this information we prioritized the work accordingly of 1) make sure the questionable gutters are clean and functioning (It is the drainage point of the roof, without functioning gutters the entire roofing system will not work) 2) inspect the roof for any potential flashing problems and address any potential problems, caulking, etc. and check for any damage(unknown history of roof due to recent purchase) and 3)clean roof of debris. Per the Angie's List deal we have allotted 2 hours to do the above description. We simply ran out of time to address the extensive moss. We forwarded her a report per our service agreement oulining the need to get the extensive moss hand cleaned off the roof, that a moss treatment is recommended (particularly at garage) and provided an estimate to do. The roof is in good shape overall. No direct response from client, to our office, from the report we provided. We were unaware that she was unhappy Since her posting noted above, we have called, and emailed, to offer to do a bit more work on the actual roof surface for free that is beyond the typical time allotted per the Deal Special. We have received no response. Again this appears to be a bit of confusion and mis-interpretation with regards to priority from the client's original email.

I called and made an appointment. Two men showed up late and told me that they were here for the roof. They stated that their intentions were to go up onto the roof, look around, evaluate the shingles, gutters, and flashing and write down aything that I needed done and give me a written estimate for the work. I explained that I had paid for 2 man hours of maintenance including removal of debris, gutter clearing, flashing caulking, and shingle repair as needed. The man's response was that they were not intending to repair anything and the deal does not include stuff like moss or attaching shingles - and quot;you see the problem with these coupons is that we don't know which is which and it takes a while to evaluate the roof so with whatever time is left after getting an estimate, they will brush off whatever loose stuff like leaves is on the roofand quot;. I retrieved the coupon and showed it to him, he argued with me that they would only be up there for a little while and likely would not be able to do all of that and the extra would carry a charge. I stated that he was welcome to provide an evaluation estimate afterwards or on his own time, but that I did not pay $200 for an estimate and expected him to fulfill the contract. He then took the coupon and began confrontationally reciting the items (those he involving evaluation) at which time I walked away and let him know that I expected the debris and gutters to be cleared and any loose shingles attached and flashing caulked, at least as much as could be done in 2 man hours for my $200. He then retrieved his paperwork and his ladders, called his boss, and then climbed onto the roof with his partner, they spent 16 minutes working before it began to rain hard and they came down, cleaned up, and began to leave, with my gutters unclear, my roof full of debris and no repairs. I asked him how we should proceed d/t the rain. He stated thet they have only 10min left on the roof anyway, so.... I told him that I had recorded his time and that there was plenty left to finish the job. He then noted that I had a few loose shingles, some broken ones, and his partner noted that we had terribly clogged gutters in the back d/t balls getting stuck therein, that he was new at the job so he apologized for not knowing what I paid for,and assured me that he would return before the end of the week to finish. Two weeks later, I called Shawn and explained my dissatisfact ion and the workers fauilure to return. I recieved a phone call at 6:30 am on two of my numbers (yes, AM) telling me that Shawn was sending the men back that morning to finish up - They arrived 40 minutes late and knocked to say and quot; We're backand quot;. The two men climbed the roof again. 35 minutes later I noticed that they were gone. No report, no evaluation, Roof visibly not free of debris in large areas and no indication whether my gutters have been cleaned, my shingles are secure or if the flashing is adequate. I will need to hire someone to check out and perform maintenance on my roof now and I would like my $200 back. Update: Read the response from the company. You seem like nice guys on the phone. I did speak with Shawn when he called me at 6:30- still have timestamped voicemail message on my cellphone too. Perhaps you dont have to be at work to make a phone call. I am careful about these things as I know that they effect business. This was an exceptionally bad and unprofessional experience and had to be told so that others did not buy in and get the same experience. WHy not come look at my roof? All that I can tell you is that I have witnesses and what I report is accurate. The response is from someone who is taking his employees word as truth and did not witness the incident. Why not check with the other employee there- perhaps he will back his friend, perhaps he'll tell you the truth. However, If they billed out those times to your company , they are painted into a corner now. You need to be watching your employees - I believe what I read - that you are likely a good company and Shawn seems like a good guy (from the 3 times I spoke with him - to originally make appt, when he was in the field on a roof and asked to call back, when he called back and when he reschedule the finished appt. in the wee morning hrs. ) Get your facts straight and make this right. Don't report your false heresay in your defense. It looks bad for you and shows the disconnection between you and your irresponsible employees. Best of luck to you. I want my money back. UPDATE: Kelly contacted me in response to my review and offered to send another crew out - assuring me that that they would have no knoweldge of my previous experience - and perform the originally contracted tasks in exchange for amending my review. A crew came out, after calling to apologize for running late. They were two men. They acted professionally and seemed to do a thorough job. They communicated what they were doing and their findings and were willing to point out specifics. They made several references to the previous and quot;workand quot; and clearly were aware that this was a revisit. They brushed off the roof, assessed its condition, cleaned the gutters and made it a point to note that they only needed cleaning because of the storm we'd had the night previous, and not because they weren't properly cleaned initially. Nonetheless, I was pleased with their professionalism and I did receive a report on the condition of my roof and needed work by both email and letter. The letter stated that the company was willing to do the work on a cost plus basis, rather than providing a firm estimate. I did not pursue their offer as it would require a higher level of trust. As part of my agreement to have the work done that I paid for, and in response to Kelly's recurring reminders, I can report that their third visit was professionally conducted. My advise to the company: Don't offer what you are not willing to provide and please respect that Angie's list is here to allow us to report our experiences. Manipulating the grades/ reporters is not the way to go. My advice to the customer: I see that this company has a lot of great reviews - trust them- I did - nobody's perfect every time. I'm sure they will do a nice job. Hiring, Sending out, Trusting and Defending a bad employee is likely all that this is about.
Description of Work: I purchased the Angie's Roof Maintenance Special. 2 man hours : "We will clean the debris from your roof, and gutters. We will inspect all flashing on your home including valleys, chimneys and skylights. We will caulk all flashings as necessary. We will repair any nail pops and reattach any loose shingles. Response from ROOFING SPECIALISTS NORTHWEST
Ok, wow, where do I start… I am the production & scheduling manager for Roofing Specialists Northwest and did a thorough audit of this engagement with our staff and records. Itemized below are our responses to this posting: Response to Member comments above: First Trip: October 10th (not 6th as complaint notes) 1) We don’t set specific appointments, we schedule “morning” or “afternoon” as a time slot, so am unsure how to respond to the “late” accusation. Per our records, we did have this client originally scheduled for an AM appointment, however we arrived in the afternoon, this can occur on occasion and we do call and inform the client that we have encountered a scheduling conflict. 2) Client has misquoted my lead field technician who is well aware of the scope of the Deal as he has performed personally for over 115+ of our clients on this exact\specific service. 3) My 2 field technicians worked onsite, per our job log from 4:05-4:55pm on the date of service when they did get rained out. I personally spoke with them at the time. 2 men at 50 minutes onsite each is 1 hour and 40 minutes. My lead technician informed the client that it was raining too hard to safely complete our time and that we would return. (Naturally, we can’t control Mother Nature.) 4) Shawn Hill has never spoken with this member. I have. 2nd trip: 5) Our technicians returned 7 days later on October 17th (not 2 weeks as customer alleged), our offices don’t open until 7:00am, our staff doesn’t arrive at our offices until 7:00am (I am unsure of how she claims we called at 6:30am) 6) 2nd trip timecards reflect 2.5 hours, (unique to have a 2nd trip on this service (due to rain 1st trip), so we do not have it broken down between travel and work time.) Naturally we have travel time that is not on the clients tab, calculating the distance, time of day and our GPS vehicle tracking system log, I have close to 1 hour for each technician onsite for this second trip. In Summary, Total time spent onsite was well over the 2 hours allotted (actually over 3). This roof is in very poor condition and is past its useful life, it needs re-roofing. The gutters were thoroughly cleaned as they were overloaded and sagging in 1 location, some debris was removed from the roof in the time allotted. Loose shingles were identified and re-attached, caulking was also applied at several connections including a Hip-Ridge junction. Client wanted us to do shingle repairs-replacement where existing tabs were missing, but, as mentioned and clearly described in the Deal description, this is a Maintenance Special where any additional repairwork can be done via an estimate. We did email the client a report on 10/19 stating that the roof is due for replacement and that it may not be cost effective to do spot repairs. We inquired if she would like us to provide an estimate for the whole roof, no response.

I had arranged for an afternoon appointment when I would be home from work. The worker showed up at 8:30 while I was getting ready to leave for work. He knew nothing about what I had discussed with the owner and didn't have the equipment needed to wash the gutters had he deemed that doable. Clean up was rather spotty, so I had to go around and sweep up the leftover debris that came off the roof. The follow-up letter apparently was a form letter because it said that they had cleaned the gutters. Update, September, 2012: I bought another Angie's List gutter/roof/exterior cleaning deal, this time from Men in Kilts. They had no difficulty whatsoever scrubbing the outer surface of my Leaf Guard gutters clean. The idea that Leaf Guard gutters are too fragile to be washed is absurd. My home looks much better with clean white gutters.
Description of Work: Although the company advertises roof and gutter cleaning, gutter cleaning does not include washing or even hosing down the front surface of covered gutters. In that regard, my expectations were apparently misguided. I had hoped they would blow debris off the roof and wipe/hose down the front surfaces of the gutters. The owner said that leaf guard gutters were too fragile (?!) to wash but that they would take a look and see if it was feasible. The worker who showed up knew nothing about what the owner and I had discussed and hadn't brought the equipment that would have been needed to do that. The only service performed was blowing debris off the roof. Update, September, 2012: I bought another Angie's List Big Deal for gutter/roof/exterior washing, this time from Men in Kilts. The Men in Kilts crew had no difficulty whatsoever washing the exterior surfaces of my Leaf Guard gutters clean. The claim that Leaf Guard gutters are too fragile to be washed is patently absurd. My home looks much better with clean white gutters.

As discussed via phone at time of setting up the appointment, homeowner has LeafGuard gutters, a special type of gutter that can be very, very fragile from our seasoned experience from ladder wear. (dents easily and is unrepairable). In order to clean the Outside of the gutters would require us to set up the ladder in about 14 different locations and apply pressure to scrub the Outside of the gutter of the algae and moss build-up. I indicated that we would try, if it was feasible to do, without incurring any damaged to her warranted special gutter. After reviewing the roof with management, before our site visit, we deemed it was not something that we should attempt in light of the nature of the gutters. We did clean the Inside of the gutters and review the roof. The report we sent to customer, was not a "Form Letter", but based upon the field technicians notes and written specfically particular to each roof we review. Of the over 450+ roof inspections and gutters cleanings with this type of program, this is the only client who asked us to clean the outside of the gutters. I reviewed the roof Via Google Earthand determined that it was too risky

It was a special that was going on. It was nice. I didn't actually get on the roof but they sent a letter saying everything was fine with the condition of the roof and gutters. They did cancel the appointment twice but they did come out the third time. They did get in touch with me but I had to contact my renters. I didn't price any other companies. They were responsive and let me know right away when they had to cancel.
Description of Work: I used Roofing Specialists Northwest to check out the roof and downspouts to make sure they were working. They put a treatment on the roof to kill the moss and they cleaned the gutters on a rental house.

I bought the Big Deal for $199 for complete roof maintenance. I scheduled an appointment for 9/14. They said I didn't need to be home, but they never showed. We rescheduled for 9/21, and they did not show again. I emailed them to see why they didn't come. They said it looked like too much work. Angie's List is despicable for offering a Big Deal from this type of company. I can't believe they would allow this type of company to offer such a deal. I expect Big Deals to be from reputable companies.
Description of Work: They were supposed to do a complete roofing maintenance which included washing the roof, cleaning the gutters, and replacing some of the shingles.

Response from ROOFING SPECIALISTS NORTHWEST
Ok, sheesh, where do I start.... First, let me preface that we view\review on average over 2000 homes per year, every year, and have provided this service now to over 400+ client homes. This member's roof condition is in very, very poor condition, past its serviceable life. We have informed the homeowner that those gutters that have not fallen off the house are attached to rotten fascia\eave tails, there are soft spots in the roof from leaking, and a tree has consumed a large portion of the backside of the roof, extensive moss, shingles are missing, etc. Okay, lets address the facts: 1) Fact: 9/14 we very timely informed the homeowner that we would not be there due to a technician's illness and rescheduled for 9/21. 2) Fact: On 9/21 our team arrived to do work and assessed the roof to generate our findings as briefly listed above for which we immediately informed the homeowner. We have documented proof via photos of our presence and time to make the extensive assessment. 3) Fact: We never "...said it looked like too much work." What we did do was inform the homeowner of the condition and give him 1 of 2 options a) would he like a discounted estimate for all the work to be done to get the roof properly functioning (with no rot and proper gutters) or b) would he like us to do what we can with the time allotted per the "Deal" and if so, what was his priority in light of our findings. 4) Fact: Homeowner Member responded to our email per the facts in #3 above with "What would be the estimate for a complete solution?" 5) Fact: Estimate has been provided to Homeowner Member. To date, we have recieved no response.

Overall, they did a great job on the repair of my leaky torch-down roof. They were responsive to my emails and phone calls, provided timely and competitive estimates, worked around my schedule (and weather), did the required work and cleaned up after themselves. Best of all, no more leaks!
Description of Work: Repaired torch-down flashing on three skylights. Removed non-functioning range vent, covered vent penetration with wood decking, and repaired with torch-down membrane. Repaired penetration in existing torch-down membrane. Applied UV protective silver coat to all repairs.

The estimate was fine, and I called them back to clarify date and on the estimate. I asked for a less expensive alternative, and I did not hear back from them on that.
Description of Work: They provided a quote on replacing our leaking roof deck with a sturdier membrane system.

Very pleased with them. They always do the work in a timely manor, they are always done on time or before there projected time. They clean up after themselves. They are right on the mark with there estimates. Their office is always accomodating with answering all the questions that I have. The only complaint that I have is that sometimes they are hard to get a hold of.
Description of Work: They installed vents in the roof to allow for evaporation, so that there won't be condensation on the walls around the roof.

Asked company to come out and analyze our roof after the storms this last winter (found some shingles on the yard). They came out on the day agreed to, took a look and let us know we needed a new roof as the old one was very dried out. While we didn't have any leaks today, we were at fairly high risk for developing them over the winter. Everyone I spoke to at the company was incredibly responsive, answering my questions quickly and even providing a survey at the end to give them feedback on their work. The roof looks beautiful and they were exactly on budget to the quote. The work was done in a timely manner with almost no impact to us.
Description of Work: Analysis of existing roof and then full roof replacement when the analysis showed patching the existing would not make sense.
