I found Pro One by using an internet request. Jazz called me right away to set up a time to meet at the house and discuss the work. He was late to our appointment. He seemed pretty knowledgeable about siding. He measured and we went over the different material options. While he insisted that the company would gladly install any product I chose, I felt he was really trying to convince me to use the Hardie product. After he had prepared his proposal he insisted that my husband be present when he presented it, which irked me. After unsuccessfully trying to set a time that worked for all three of us to meet, he finally agreed to meet with just me alone. His proposal package was very professional and thorough, and he did a good job of explaining the different types of house wraps and waterproof membranes on the market. He also had a notebook of photos of other siding jobs his company had performed. I explained that I wouldn't hire a contractor without first checking references and driving by some of the houses they'd worked on. He said he wouldn't give me any phone numbers, but could provide some addresses. After repeated follow-ups he finally gave me some addresses. I drove by one and was not impressed--the house was sided in individual Hardie shingles and the keyways (spaces between the shingles) were not consistent across the house. Also, when I checked out the company on the Better Business Bureau web site I found that they had an "unsatisfactory" status with the BBB due to a complaint that they had not responded to. I was also concerned with the fact that they do not have their own crews and instead use subcontractors. In the end it really came down to price--I was able to find a company that was able to do the work in cedar shingles for a much better price.
