+ 0 moreWith great care, precision and skill, Bob and Brandon executed an important design improvement to our home that now features a beautiful hardwood staircase complete with a craftsman style newel post and balustrade. Beyond the aesthetic updates, the structural improvements they made have ensured the staircase will last another 100 years or more. We couldn't be happier with the result and highly recommend working with One Step Ahead. From start to finish, they were exceptional. Thank you Bob and Brandon for bringing your talent and expertise to our home!
Description of Work: After the recent purchase of our home, we worked with Bob Rigg and One Step Ahead to upgrade our primary interior staircase with period details to better reflect the 1912 construction date of the house. The transformation was nothing short of spectacular. Bob is a seasoned craftsman with demonstrated experience and knowledge of this niche industry. Of importance to us was his understanding of the construction methodologies and challenges inherent in working with older homes. Bob provided important insight and advice during the design process and continued to keep us involved during construction with prompt communication.

+ -1 moreThe work went really well. Like any other company, we were pushed back a month, but we weren t in a huge hurry. The guy they sent was great and he did a wonderful job and was here on time. They are expensive, but I think it is average for that kind of work. You might get someone for less but you may not get the same quality. I love the way they went about their work. They listened to me, as I was very much part of the design and they did everything that I wanted.
Description of Work: They redid our entire stairway with the bannister.

+ 0 moreIt was so refreshing to deal with Bob and Mark. The professionalism, the craftsmanship and the pride in their product was evident throughout. They came recommended to us by another company, who didn't want to attempt the work, but said there were only two companies who could do it correctly and One Step Ahead was one of them. I would not hesitate to use them again and recommend them unconditionally. I wish we had known about them before, we hired our previous contractor.
Description of Work: During a miserable remodel, we had previously had installed hardwood stairs that were a mess, no skirt trim, thin floor boards instead of full treads, boards that did not meet the drywall and a cheap handrail. One Step Ahead, removed the stairs and installed the most beautiful full tread red oak railing and stairs, skirt trim, and mdf risers. The carpenter, Mark, was terrific, fast, hard-working, pleasant to be around and have in our home. The stairs are a thing of beauty now. We finished the railing and stairs ourselves with Osmo Polyx-Oil, from the Environmental Home Store and they look fantastic, the quality is amazing.
