It went well. We had a noon appointment, but around 12:30, Kirk called to say the previous job ran over and they were on their way. They showed up around 2pm. Barring that, everything else went great. The wall behind the pedestal sink only had support behind one side, the other was just drywall (and the previous sink apparently weakened the drywall). But they diligently worked to figure out a way to get proper support without having to rip out some drywall and add a 2x4 behind the wall - and they did! yay! Definitely saved us time and money on that one. The sink looks great, and everything works fine. They also replaced a faucet in a bathroom upstairs that was leaking (I figured while they were here- they'd do it faster than I could. :) ). Because some of the supplies we had bought were the wrong size, Terry had to run out to Lowe's during the visit to get the right sized stuff. But, that kept this all to one visit instead of 2, so well worth it. One thing they didn't mention was that they charge by person hours, not straight hours, so the final count was a bit more than I had expected, but Kirk was very kind and discounted the service so it wasn't that much of a difference. Overall, since they had to deal with the lack of support on the one side and the trip to Lowe's, I got just what I paid for. I also got an estimate for a minor re-do of the small bath (tiling, replacing fixtures), so I will be calling again after the new year to get that done! Reasonable rates and quality service. Kirk and Terry are nice guys, and competent. Recommended!
Description of Work: Kirk and his partner in crime, Terry O'Neill (from TCO's Inc), installed a pedestal sink with faucet, and replaced a faucet in a small bath.

I did not hire him because I did not get an estimate. After the first e-mail and phone contact, he did not return my calls. However, he did say that he would go back to the house and take a look at the project to give me an estimate. The project was to repair a brick planter. Instead of that, he wanted to completely redo the front steps and remove a part of the planter because it would make the steps look much better. It was not realistic because I am not in the same state. He would have to make a drawing of the plan. He said he could not draw. So I asked him to give me an estimate for the job I wanted done; just repairing the planter without redoing the steps. This went on and on. It was like he was trying to create more work and when I asked him to go back to the original project; he stopped answering my phone calls or e-mails. It was strange because he actually went to the house, spoke to my tenants and surveyed the whole project. I thought that he would drop the estimate and discuss it. It got strange and convoluted. It was like he kept trying to add things to add more money to the estimate. When I would not do it, he just dropped out. I was a very negative experience. It put me in a bind. I kept calling and e-mailing him which I would not have done had he made it clear that he was not interested in doing the project. I would have looked for someone else instead of waiting for him. Initially, when he went over and looked at the job, he was punctual. Afterward I had to wait for a long time for him to respond and then there were no responses at all.

I am sorry for any inconvenience to the member but offer my own take as follows: The member and I never came to any agreement, contract, or any such thing. I was not aware that anything I did or did not do prior to having an agreement or contract could affect her or put her in a "bind". I assumed she was getting more than one bid. Additionally, her time frame was rather short and I thought she likely went with another contractor as communication stopped both ways. I did not attempt to "sell" her anything but rather offered a variety of ideas to repair an "unsafe, broken stairs/planter" situation and simultaneously enhance street appeal. I do apologize for not concluding our conversation with a solid yea or nay answer. Kirk Klitzke

Do: If you make an appointment..Show up! Or at least have the decency to call and reschedule or cancel. Don't: Waste people's time by no showing a confirmed appointment
Description of Work: Called Kirk and left message for him to call me. No response. Waited over a day and I called again. I requested an estimate for repair/replacement of a broken Pantry folding door. He scheduled a 9:30 am appointment on 10/21/2009 to give me an estimate on the job. He did not show up. he did not bother to call me to break the appointment. I wasted an entire morning waiting for him to show up. Someone once told me that if you are a small business, all you have to do is show up on time and do a half way decent job. You will be ahead of 90% of the competition. How true!

We had a bit of a tight deadline because I needed the trim replaced before our house painters started work. Kirk was responsive. I sent him a drawing indicating the work I wanted done, and he came by and gave us an estimate within a few days. He understood just what we wanted, and he and Terry got the job done when they said they would. It ended up taking them a bit longer than they thought it would, and I think they had to make an extra trip to the lumber yard, but in the end, the project ended up just right.
Description of Work: Kirk (and Terry) tore out some vertical exterior trim on our house and replaced it with trim framing the windows and garage doors.

Kirk partnered with TCO's Inc. (Terry O'Neill) from Angie's List to complete this project. Kirk and Terry were very thorough and did excellent work. They suggested two designs for the trellises and worked with me on the placement, etc. They also made extra trips to the lumber yard when additional rotten boards were discovered. They cleaned up and made a run to the dump to dispose of the rotten boards they removed. Both were easy going and enjoyable to work with.

Excellent, Kirk and the sub he brought with him were very thorough and did quality work. They cleaned up everything when they were finished, which included cutting up the box the storm door came in. I actually had some additional exterior lights to replace, but (my fault), they were too big. Kirk was very diplomatic and suggested that I might want to purchase smaller light fixtures.

It took a while to get a quote and get Kirk scheduled, but no more than other contractors. Also, his schedule ran over so we rescheduled for the work several days later, still 2 days before the garage door was due to be installed. He and Terry came out and worked the whole day - very good work and cleaned up well. He suggested adding a few more cross beams to the garage to support an upper floor for storage in the future, which we did.
Description of Work: Took out a metal rafter supporting my garage and replaced it with wood beams higher up so that we could install a garage door. Reswung the human door to the garage outwards. Put up wooden fencing in the backyard.

Because of how the deck was originally constructed, this was a bit more complex of a job than normal. He had to cut out some boards that ran under another section of deck (they were not really accessible). In addition, (because I messed up!) he had to make a couple of runs to Lowe's for some additional deck boards and screws. I was trying to get this work done so that the deck could be stained (painters were coming on a specific date). Kirk was very cooperative in trying to find time to fit this into my schedule (he came out in the evenings to do some of the work).
Description of Work: Kirk replaced a number of rotting boards in my deck.

Kirk & Terry are fun to work with. They are very nice guys, easy going, and do great work. After tearing out the old shower, we decided that there was enough room to put in a tub and they were very easy going about making that change. They ran right out to home depot and got all the necessary supplies to make it work. The new tub is so much better than a shower and we are very pleased! They were originally just going to put our new vinyl floor over the old vinyl, but ended up tearing it all out and leveling the floor for us to make sure their work was well done. And on the last day, we realized the toilet was leaking so they fixed it with no questions asked (or payment required). I would definitely hire them again!
Description of Work: They replaced flooring in the kitchen & bath, tore out old shower and installed a new tub/surround in bathroom (moved & installed new plumbing), installed fan in bathroom & vented to roof, moved around toilet/vanity and various other bathroom fixes/improvements, installed new front door threshold/lining, installed new kitchen faucet, fixed cabinet doors, moved outlet, built shelves in outdoor cabinet, removed old porch rails, fixed toilet.

This job went well. Kirk brought another Angie's List contractor along, Terry Oneill (see TCO reference) for this project. They knew what to do and had all the right tools and extra fittings and wall anchors. The job took somewhat longer than the original estimate, yet I wasn't asked to pay more than what I was originally quoted. I'm very pleased to have this upgrade for my kitchen! I highly recommend Kirk Enterprises or his team with Terry Oniell.
Description of Work: This was a challenging job! Installing an over the range microwave in an older home that's never had such a thing. This required installing a cabinet against the ceiling, which would support the microwave, some wiring, re-fitting the exhaust pipe, fitting everything so as to hang against the wall above the stove- this was not an easy job!

In the beginning, we had a few hiccups scheduling due to workloads, but I am pleased that they were able to do my work and plan to use them in the future. Once they got here, everything went smoothly. Although Kirk and Terry have separate busineses, they often work together. I found this to be an advantage as they split the work but also conferred on the more complicated job of fixing the newell post. They worked efficiently, carefully, were neat and cleaned up afterwards.
Description of Work: Kirk, and his colleague Terry O'Neill (TCO's), repaired a loose newell post, reattached a tub faucet, hung a painting, replaced a motion sensor light with a regular one, adjusted the water flow in a toilet and adjusted several bifold closet doors to clear the carpeting. A cover for an exterior electrical outlet was to be installed also, but I had purchased the wrong item, so this will be done when I have them back to repair the threshhold to the basement, once the weather has improved.

I am satisfied with the results, but getting to the results was a long and arduous process. I find both Kirk and Terry very courteous and willing to work with a customer, but I found that unless I intervened and kept on top of them that it wasn't performed correctly, e.g. they installed damaged cabinets, didn't move a junction box before installing the cabinets so now I have a junction box above my sink, didn't complete the finishing on the job. Kirk requested complete payment before the job was completed. I outlined what still needed to be done, and they did it promptly and I paid them in full promptly. Subsequently, I paid someone else to redo or do (for the first time) some of the "finishing" . The kitchen did turn out nicely, and I am happy with it. There were also some very nice touches they did. Terry refashioned a microwave cabinet to fit the space it was supposed to go into. I paid extra for it, but it was nicely done and looks great. Kirk put in the plumbing beneath the sink in such a way that I can fit storage beneath there - something I was unable to do before. Kirk also suggested an unobtrusive way of venting my kitchen which seems to be working well. In short, these folks are a mixed bag. Be prepared to be alert and you'll get a nice job done.
Description of Work: Kirk and Terry remodeled my kitchen. The first part of the job was done beautifully. They raised the ceiling in my galley kitchen and got rid of an unnecessary closet to give more space. They also demolished and removed all of the old cabinets. Things fell apart when the cabinets were being installed. I did change my mind about the layout of the kitchen, but I did so before any cabinets were installed and so they had plenty of time to adapt to the change.

They began by coming to my house to look at the job and give me an estimate. It took a couple of weeks before Kirk and Terry had time to do the work and they had to reschedule a couple times. Once they got here they went right to work and worked hard for 5 hours. They were so quiet I barely knew they were here. They had all the tools they needed and had bought supplies the day before so there was no running out to the hardware store during the job. They cleaned up everything afterward and fixed a shelf they broke, making it stronger than it was before. It took them 10 man hours, but they stuck to the estimate and only charged me for 8 hours. The work looks very good, the range hood works great and I have no complaints. Both Kirk and Terry are very easy to work with, have integrity and are honest. I would definitely hire them again.
Description of Work: They installed a range hood and vented it through the attic. They had to run the duct up through cabinets, through a false ceiling and the actual ceiling, around a rafter, and up to an existing roof vent. They also did some rewiring.
