We visited Global Imports to get an estimate on granite countertops for our kitchen. The quality of the workmanship in the showroom looked very nice, if you could get past all the paperwork that was laying around, bank statements, invoices, etc. were everywhere. We were quoted a price of $8,000. Mel Corbett wrote up a contract with a down payment of $4,000. The next day, we had second thoughts about the pricing, given that it was quite a bit higher than others we had received and his estimate of the granite square footage was higher. We rescinded the order within the three days allowed. Mel Corbett denied receiving it. After over a year through the court system we finally won our case to get our $4,000 down payment back because he did no show up in court. Upon visiting the shop, we found that it had been closed due to non-payment of rent and all equipment and granite was up for auction. My recommendation, if you see Mel Corbett opening a new shop in the area, leave immediately.

The quality of the fabrication is very good and looks great. Installation was good. BUT, the communication and professionalism of the owner is amongst the worst I have seen. We felt we were not treated in a straight forward manner throughout the process. The countertop was installed later than estimated, poorly scheduled. Price increased significantly from estimate. Owner initially refused to provide us a final invoice showing the higher price. We contacted a government agency to confirm this was a requirement and later convinced the owner to provide one. We are pleased with the countertop but the overall experience and was not positive.
